It would be another several weeks before they were once again present at the same mixer. For how often Harry had revisited the memory of Malfoy pushing him up against the wall - and several other long-suppressed, made-up favourites - it had at no point in time crossed Harry’s mind to actively seek him out.
However, when Harry’s glass was empty at the same time as he saw Malfoy at the bar, it felt easier to chuck it up to coincidence; or luck, though whose luck was hard to say. There was no part of Harry that doubted whether or not Malfoy was on felix felicis tonight, too, and really, what was that if not an open invitation?
Harry didn’t even turn to look at Malfoy when he came up to the bar, despite only being a few feet to his right.
“Could I have another?” Harry asked the bartender as he placed his empty glass on the bar; his choice of words less of arrogance in expecting every bartender to know his drink by heart, and more so proof that the same man had already attended him thrice this evening.

As much as Draco had tried to just live his life like normal, there was no denying that every mixer that he had attended ever since his ill-advised hookup with Potter had been disappointing to him. Despite all of that, Draco hadn’t wanted to approach Potter now that they were finally at the same mixer again, knowing that they had nothing to talk about and that there was no reason to expose himself like that.
“Really, already?” Draco couldn’t stop himself from asking, having decided not to engage with Potter for any reason, however the golden glow of the felix seemed to have loosened his tongue.

Harry turned towards Malfoy when addressed, quite pleased with how little it had taken for Malfoy to engage; it felt like validation, like a confirmation of something otherwise hard to describe.
Standing side by side, Harry once again felt the tug of the felix felicis in his chest, though he probably ought to face that there were other factors at play. As his eyes indulgently roamed Malfoy’s features, Harry’s mind overlaid the memory of him flushed in the courtyard.
The question itself, however, made a frown pull at his brows.
“‘Already’, what?” he asked with a sort of surprised indifference, his attention returning to the bartender as he pushed the empty glass at him, accepting the new one.

While Draco wouldn’t say that he had been actively watching Potter he couldn’t deny that his gaze had been constantly drawn to him, orienting himself like he was a compass and Potter was north. It disgusted him but it did also meant that he had been watching Potter almost every single time he had gone to the bar for a refill, which had been a not inconsiderable amount of times.
“What’s that, your fourth?” He asked, not really that interested in how much Potter had been drinking tonight, but he knew that they were going to fall into conversation sooner rather than later, so there really was no point in fighting it.
“I’m still on my first glass of wine,” he added with a nod towards the glass in front of him, which was almost empty by now.

Drink in hand, Harry turned back towards Malfoy. It was indeed his fourth drink tonight, but rather than take offence at whatever Malfoy was implying, Harry’s expression did a poor job of concealing the smug pleasure in knowing he had kept count, a smile pulling at his lips.
Knowing better than to comment on it, however, Harry instead turned his head back towards the bartender.
“Could you get him another, too?” he asked, a playful sort of exasperation as though Malfoy’s comparison hadn’t certainly been meant as criticism.

During events like these, Draco usually kept himself to just one drink, not wanting to do anything that would counteract the felix felicis that he was so diligently taking. However, there was something about being around Potter that made him feel more reckless, refusing to be taken by surprise by anything that Potter was doing.
“Trying to get me drunk, Potter?” Draco asked, but didn’t fight the refill that was coming for him, figuring that just one more couldn’t hurt.

Harry wouldn’t exactly categorise Malfoy as being sober, and though there was a brief flicker on his expression where that showed, Harry kept his mouth shut. Despite previously having addressed Malfoy’s use of highly regulated potions in public, the bar buzzed around them, no moment where someone wasn’t a few feet away from them.
Mitigating that, Harry took a step closer to him.
“Figured you might be less miserable if you were, yeah,” he said, his grin obscured by the way he lifted his glass to his mouth.
Taking a large drink of his generously-filled whiskey, his attention remained on Malfoy overtop the rim of it. Something warm pooled at the pit of his stomach; he dismissed it as simply being the alcohol.
Unable to keep quiet about two things, however, Harry ended up caving. “You don’t have anything better to do than to keep count of my drinking?”

Draco couldn’t help but roll his eyes at that, knowing that it had been embarrassing for him to reveal that he knew how much Potter had been drinking, however, it seemed even more pathetic that Potter actually cared about it.
“I am just here to be a figurehead for St Mungos really,” Draco stated, taking a sip from his fresh glass of wine, unfortunately agreeing with Potter that things seemed slightly less miserable with a full glass of wine in front of him.
He had always found these mixers to be dull at the best of times, but the further up he had gotten in the hierarchy, the more he realised just how utterly meaningless they were. It was an unfortunate truth that the only thing that was interesting to him right in that moment was Potter.

Placing the glass back onto the bar, Harry leaned forward onto his forearms, looking sideways over at Malfoy. Harry didn’t actually know precisely what the occasion was tonight, not besides it being held at the Ministry as usual; there couldn’t be much for Malfoy to do besides showing his face.
“Sure,” he agreed, amicable to the point of almost tipping over into mocking. “So no, then.”
Harry was by no means complaining. Although he knew plenty of the people in attendance, and though Malfoy had yet to be in anything but a sour mood, there really wasn’t any he’d rather be spending his time with.

There really wasn’t a lot for Draco to respond to that other than with a sigh, knowing that Potter had talked him into a corner and he honestly didn’t have the fight in him to find a good argument.
“No,” he simply stated with a shrug, swirling his wine in his glass before taking a sip, feeling uncomfortable transparent under Potter’s gaze and he wasn’t enjoying it. The two of them had always been able to see through each other in ways that others couldn’t, and it was much to Draco’s chagrin to realise that that ability hadn’t gone away with age.

Harry was almost a little surprised to hear Malfoy forfeit so easily, making his mouth twitch into a brief self-satisfied grin. Trying to drown his own smile with another drink of his whiskey, Harry looked over his shoulder back at the crowd as it moved like molasses.
“It’s not like anyone’s paying attention to you,” he said after a moment, a failed attempt at being reassuring.
Ever since that moment in the courtyard, Harry had been haunted by the influence Malfoy’s dose of felix felicis allowed him to have on others. The mere thought of it made something in the pit of his stomach swoop, suddenly feeling very alone despite the crowd around them.
“Is that by choice?” he asked, once again allowing his attention to settle on Malfoy, heavy with interest.

Feeling pretty confident that Potter wasn’t going to tattle on him for illicit use of potions, Draco was coming to find that the biggest downside to having been busted was just how smug Potter seemed to be about it.
“It’s been a very long week,” he stated in lieu of a proper reply, knowing that no one would come within earshot of them unless he wished so, but still feeling quite uncomfortable with discussing his use of felix felicis in public. After all, it would only take one little slip of his thoughts, and he could forget everything about his reputation as redeemed.
“Why you asking though? So you can feel special for having paid attention?” He asked, looking over at Potter and immediately being faced with his smug grin, but also feeling quite certain that he spotted something different underneath, something that he desperately didn’t want to pay attention to.

Harry’s gaze didn’t waver when Malfoy turned to meet it; if anything it made his smile widen. Malfoy really was handsome, in a way that perhaps wasn’t really flattering. Harry couldn’t say age had been particularly kind to Malfoy, and yet he had probably never been more attracted to him.
“I always do,” he said, a reckless ease about his voice.
Intimate as it might have been to acknowledge it, it couldn’t be news to either of them. Suddenly, this was no longer the most intimate thing they had ever done, the line of what was acceptable between them having barrelled forward for the first time in decades.
Harry’s smile grew crooked as he went on. “Nothing new or special about that.”

While the admission shouldn’t come as a surprise to him, knowing that Potter seemed to have very little filter around him, and Draco honestly wasn’t sure how much of it could be attributed to the felix felicis coursing in his veins. The two of them had always been unnaturally obsessed with each other, so maybe it shouldn’t come as a surprise to him that that hadn’t changed, even after they hadn’t seen each other for almost 20 years.
“What do you want, Potter?” Draco asked with a sigh, unsure exactly what it was that Potter was going for, but it was obvious that he was trying to get some sort of angle on the conversation, and Draco was too tired to play proper mind games.

Perhaps for the first time ever, Harry felt permitted to look at Malfoy and allowed himself to indulge at the opportunity. Harry doubted Malfoy was actually bothered, despite the big show he made trying to appear so; he doubted the question was genuine, too, an equally dumb attempt at being coy.
In lieu of an answer, Harry pushed himself upright before finishing his drink in one mouthful.
“Come on,” he said with a nod to the side, placing the glass on the counter.
He only sent Malfoy a single glance before stepping away from the bar, the tug of a grin cutting through the otherwise indifferent tone of his voice. “You said no one’s paying attention.”

There really was no denying the grin on Potter’s face and as much as Draco wanted to deny it, he couldn’t really get around the fact that he had been thinking about Potter a lot since their last time together. It was so indirectly stupid and Draco was very aware of that, however, that didn’t stop him from abandoning his almost full glass of wine to follow Potter.
“One could be so lucky,” he stated, a slight tug at the corner of his mouth indicating the humour of the situation. Potter really was an excellent distraction to what had been a horrendous week for him, so Draco figured he could allow himself to do something incredibly stupid.
After all, Potter was clearly aware of his regular use of the felix felicis, so while it probably did help soften some of the edges of their relationship, Draco also figured that Potter was smart enough to figure out whether or not this was something he actually wanted.

There was something intoxicating about how easily Malfoy complied. It planted the reasonable doubt of whose idea this was, really, and in the very back of his mind, Harry figured he should be conscious of the effect Malfoy’s use of felix felicis had on him. A bigger part of Harry knew this wasn’t new, that it predated Malfoy’s use of potions by decades.
The effect was, however, clearly visible in the way the crowd shifted around them. Used to the weight of people’s attention, Harry clearly felt the absence of it, the way people mindlessly seemed to turn away. It made something horrible and eager pool in his stomach at the implications, before leading them out of the event hall.
Keenly aware of his surroundings, even after multiple drinks, Harry instinctively glanced around them before half-hazardly shoving Malfoy into one of the hallway toilets. The door locked behind him with a wandless turn of the latch, as Harry’s hands immediately scrambled for Malfoy’s collar, pulling him into a kiss without any preamble.

Just how quick Potter was to reach for him made Draco’s head spin. He knew that that was exactly what they had come here to do, yet the eagerness with which Potter was proceeding sent shivers down his spine, realising just how much he had closed himself off from by having something as stupid as morals while on felix felicis.
It took Draco a moment to properly catch on, but once he did he kissed Potter back, putting his hands on his hips and pushing him against the door.

Harry grinned into the kiss, incredibly pleased by Malfoy’s reaction. The undeniable strength in his touch as he gracelessly shoved him back against the door sent a lick of desire through Harry, having spent a lot of time thinking about exactly this in the weeks that had passed.
Allowing the proximity, Harry’s hands slipped from Malfoy’s collar to around his neck, grabbing a hold of the base of his stupid hair. It served as an anchor to pull Malfoy close in a greedy kiss, far less interested in kissing Malfoy than he was in having him, a decade-old sense of possessive vindication coming to a point, like this wasn’t just allowed but deserved.

With his hands already on Potter’s hips, Draco pulled his robe up, knowing that even with the massive amounts of felix felicis in his system they still probably wouldn’t be ale to be gone for too long. He didn’t mind the rush though, finding Potter to be a means to an end, though he could not deny the thrill that ran through him; feeling some sort of way on behalf of his younger self.
Trying to push thoughts of their younger selves out of his mind, Draco’s hands were once again on Potter’s fly, finding it surreal that this apparently was something he wanted as well, but Draco knew better than to question situations like that.
