Looking at himself, it was apparent to Remus that the waistcoat was tailored to someone else, for while they were of similar size, to the attentive eye it was simultaneously both tight and large; not that it made no difference, finding that that was equally the case for both his blazer and trousers.
So, the smile still came easily when Sirius offered a generous compliment, once again turning to look at him.
“Yeah?” he encouraged through a grin, though it was hard to tell even to himself if it was a teased coyness or whether it was earnest.
Stepping around Sirius to reach for the blazer he had tossed to their bed, Remus pulled it on, eyes still flickering between Sirius and his own reflection.
“It’s not noticeably nicer than everything else I’m wearing?”

It was easy to become enthralled with Remus, finding a different kind of intimacy in seeing him get dressed up, as opposed to how he was used to seeing his get undressed. It made his heart flip in his chest, suddenly struck by the idea that he was likely going to be taking his own waistcoat off of Remus later.
“I don’t think so, just looks like you have prioritised one really nice piece,” he stated, somewhat breathless but trying to keep himself together.

Looking at his own reflection, Remus weighed Sirius’ words. They landed somewhere between being foreign and true, having never really felt in a position to reflect on such a matter, but Remus did feel better. If nothing else, then for wearing Sirius’ clothes, the thrill that came with that, a far more distinguishable feeling.
“Thank you,” he answered, grinning as he turned to look at Sirius.

The bass was loud enough that it was almost removing any trace of academia from Sirius, the only proof of his earlier goings on being being the suit that he was still wearing.
He was standing at the bar next to Remus, who was also still wearing his suit and looking devastatingly handsome doing so, and they were both unwinding after having to act like academics.
It had been Sirius’ idea to go to the gay bar, having been there on some of his prior visits to Paris, and he had figured that it was just what the two of them needed. He had been right, both of them a lot less tense, ties loosened and body language relaxed, suddenly not having to overthink how they acted around each other.
“Honestly, my thesis isn’t even that good, I think Arlo mostly insisted on bringing me because I speak french,” Sirius admitted, knowing that Arlo thought fondly of him, however it was hard to shake the feeling that his privileged background was what helped him to have this opportunity.

Remus felt like he had lived several different lives in a day, finding it hard to comprehend that they had spent a greater part of their days at a conference. As the day dragged to an end, Remus felt it slowly but surely inch back to where it started and subsequently increasingly hard to keep his hands off of Sirius.
The impulse to be close muddling with the volume of the music, Remus leaned in closer than he needed to.
“It is,” he projected, speaking so close to Sirius’ ear that Remus’ nose brushed against his cheek when he turned his head. Straightening his posture far enough to once again get Sirius in his sight, Remus’ expression was bright with intoxication and interest.
A grin tugged at his lips. “It is that good.”

It took everything in Sirius not to giggle at the compliment, especially when combined with Remus’ close proximity. He didn’t know whether it was the whiplash of the changing settings of their day, or maybe the drinks that he had already had, but Sirius felt lightheaded and happier than he had in a long time.
“I bet you say that to all the pretty boys,” he said with a crooked grin, taking a sip from his drink trying to keep the fluster off of his face, but knowing that he was probably woefully unsuccessful. He doubted that there was ever going to be a time where he wasn’t going to be flustered by Remus’ close proximity, but he found that he didn’t mind it as long as it meant that Remus stuck around.

Remus’ eyes skimmed over Sirius’ feature with a hazy smile on his lips, an instinctive attempt to find steady ground in the busy room around them. Once again leaning an inch closer to speak further enclosed the space around them, and for a moment, Sirius filled his entire field of vision.
“Only the smart ones,” Remus answered with a bright grin, a boyish air about him as he said as if it were a secret he was confiding. “It’s not often those two overlap.”

Sirius wasn’t blind to the amount of alcohol in both of their systems, but that did nothing to lessen the giddiness he felt from being caught up in Remus’ attention like this.
He was thinking of it less and less, but sometimes he was terribly struck by just how natural his attraction towards Remus felt, feeling it constantly grow within him in a way that he really wasn’t used to.
“You’re being a terrible flirt,” he stated with a crooked grin, feeling a little shy in the affection that Remus was showing him, but not minding it in the least.

In any other casual instance, being called out on flirting would have had Remus second guessing his behaviour, abruptly cutting short a habit that stemmed from his line of work. Here, in Paris of all places with Sirius of all people, it felt more allowed. Intoxicated on both alcohol and good company, Remus couldn’t help but lean into it.
Ducking his gaze towards the bar, Remus reached for his drink.
“Is it really terrible?” he asked, casting a glance back towards Sirius, the combination of a grin and a furrowed brow enhancing the challenge of the question.

Terrible was really the last thing that Sirius was feeling about the entire exchange, enamoured by Remus and the attention that he was electing to bestow upon him. It was intoxicating in a way that Sirius hadn’t gotten to experience in years, feeling happy and giggly and like this could maybe be their entire life together.
He barely noticed the busy bar around them, too caught up in the man in front of him, so he almost startled when a hand reached out to touch his arm; clearly a bid for his attention.
Sirius turned slightly to see a large blonde man standing in front of him, looking every bit like he already had his mind made up as to how his evening was about to go.
“Dance with me,” he stated over the music, sounding far more like a demand rather than a request.

Coming up on multiple days where they had just existed within their own bubble, the sounds around them were growing increasingly muddled as Remus got accustomed to being immersed in a language he didn’t speak. When a stranger’s voice cut through the hum of the bar it caught Remus entirely by surprise, having almost believed he had ceased to exist to anyone but Sirius.
When he turned his head towards the stranger, Remus should have realised how foolish it was to believe that Sirius could ever be invisible to others. It made his stomach turn.
It was pure instinct the way Remus straightened his posture away from Sirius. Although bitter jealousy pooled in the pit of his stomach, Remus knew better than to pretend he had any claim on Sirius. Reaching for his pint, Remus cast an aimless glance towards the racks of bottles behind the bar, a tense attempt at allowing Sirius space to consider whatever the man had suggested to him.

The idea of going to dance with someone who wasn’t Remus hadn’t even struck Sirius as a possibility, having been so caught up in his flatmate that he had almost forgotten that other people even existed around them.
It took him a moment to even realise what the man was asking of him, surprised by the boldness of approaching him while he was clearly engaged in conversation with another man.
“Oh, no thanks,” Sirius stated, taking a moment to properly find the words in french, but he managed without mistake. He really had no interest in anyone but Remus, especially not with how loose and happy he had been looking while they were in Paris. Sirius needed to make the absolute most of it because he felt certain that it wouldn’t last once they got home.
“I was hoping that this one would dance with me later,” he stated, reaching out and placing his hand on Remus’ arm, wanting to properly underline the fact that they were there together.

The touch to his arm made Remus’ stomach clench with a mix of emotions, not particularly keen on being dragged into a conversation carried in a language he didn’t speak. Still, the hold Sirius had of Remus’ attention was pitiful; how, even in the presence of a stranger that had so clearly propositioned Sirius, Remus’ eyes darted to the point where Sirius’ hand met his arm.
In a moment of self awareness, Remus’ gaze flickered away, barely skimming over Sirius’ face with a tight little smile, an awkward attempt at polite engagement.

It was abundantly clear to Sirius that this wasn’t the way that the stranger had expected their conversation to go, clearly used to getting his way. However, having touched Remus again, Sirius’ attention had already drifted back to him, making anything that man would think of saying utterly redundant.
It barely registered for Sirius when that guy left in a huff, having still not removed his hand from Remus’ arm and finding himself thinking of getting to be even closer to him.
“Dance with me, Remus?” He requested with a warm smile, so enamoured with the man in front of him.

The language barrier had encouraged Remus to disengage from the conversation, and the sudden switch back to English - the sound of him saying his name, even - felt like it jostled Remus’ brain awake.
Dumbly, Remus’ first instinct was to glance after the man as he left their proximity. It took another moment for Sirius’ question to even register with him, the realisation catching on something deep in his chest.
“Yeah?” he had to clarify as he turned his attention back onto Sirius, unable to to keep a giddy surprise from his voice.

There was something so special to Sirius about getting to see Remus so open and easy to smiles. He had always found Remus devastatingly handsome but especially when he smiled like that, making Sirius’ legs go weak with the knowledge that he was the one to make Remus smile like that.
“Yeah,” he confirmed, finding himself mirroring Remus’ grin, his happiness so contagious that Sirius wanted to keep him grinning like that forever.
“I really wanna dance and you’re the only guy here I want to dance with.”

Although Sirius’ explanation was perfectly straight forward - or perhaps, specifically because of it - Remus simply gawked at him, an incredulous smile tugging at his lips. It felt so unlikely that Sirius was being genuine, but still his expression was so open as he stood in front of him, bright and thrilled. It made that something in his chest shift, in turn making his stomach flip with something else entirely.
“That guy’s not waiting for you, then?” Remus had to ask, though the way he instinctively leaned into Sirius’ space betrayed it was at best a redundant question, the grin on his lips too wide to be truly worried.

Sirius could only grin at that, finding the entire situation quite silly, but all he could think about in that moment was how much he wanted to just get to dance with Remus and not thinking too much about anything.
“If he is then that’s on him, I already told him no,” he stated very matter of factly, as he grabbed both of Remus’ hands, walking backwards and dragging at him slightly.
“So humour me, come dance with me,” he insisted with a wide grin.

Remus grinned, certain that Sirius had mistaken his surprise as either hesitation or objection. Drunk on alcohol and high on the knowledge that, at least in that moment, Remus hadn’t been just an option to Sirius but a choice, Remus needed no convincing to dance with Sirius. In fact, there was probably nothing Remus wouldn’t have done, had Sirius asked it of him.
Closing the gap between them quicker than Sirius created it, Remus let go of Sirius’ hands to instead favour his hips, pushing him onwards.
“Go on, then,” he grinned, raising his voice to account for the steadily increasing volume of the music around them.

Once Sirius stepped off the podium he felt like he had just ran a marathon.
For all extents and purposes, his presentation had gone better than he could have ever dreamt of, glad to have thought to look up certain terms in french before doing his presentation.
Despite the exhaustion settling in his limps, he was still sporting a large grin when he sat down between Arlo and Remus again, knowing that they wouldn’t have understood most of his presentation, but judging by the looks on their faces they seemed to believe that he had done well anyway.
“I can’t believe you talked me into doing that,” he stated towards Arlo, the grin on his face undermining the accusative tone of his voice.
