This body is a vessel for my mayhem and as long as I can perform bafoonery it doesn’t matter if this stomach is flat or not

The way Sirius so easily accepted the toddler that was being unceremoniously dumped onto his lap made Draco painfully aware that this wasn’t the first time. It was a family dynamic that was very new to him, having never quite seen anything like it before in real life and it made his heart ache, realising just how much he had been missing out on.
The request of a hug took Draco even more aback, finding himself painfully out of place, realising that he really hadn’t hugged anyone before he had hugged Sirius when he first arrived; a day that seemed so far away by now.
“Yeah, sure,” he found himself saying despite it all, finding the kindness overwhelming but desperately wanting to be able to share in the excitement.

It took little else for Tonks to circle the table, grabbing for Draco’s shoulders without hesitation and pulling him into a tight hug.
Despite being raised under much gentler conditions than either her mother or Sirius, Tonks had felt the gnawing longing for a bigger family, especially after having Teddy.
“Hi, kid,” she grinned, resting her cheek on his crown. “It’s so good you’re here.”

While Draco knew it was coming, the hug still took him by surprise, doing what he could to fight back the tears that were threatening to well up in his eyes. He hadn’t even known that he had a cousin until today, and the fact that his parents had found it acceptable to keep this entire family away from him seemed so wrong.
“Thanks,” he choked out, constantly feeling like his entire world got turned upside down and he had to find a new place to stand.

Easing her hold of Draco, Tonks let her hands rest at his shoulders, still an embrace. She was looking at him blatantly, a smile on her lips as she took in his features.
“You look so much like Sirius,” she said, almost laughing despite cupping Draco’s cheek in a gentle touch. Glancing over her shoulder, she looked at Sirius, the compliment just as much to her uncle.
“Ted, love, come say hi,” she encouraged, letting go of Draco to wave the toddler over. Then, attention returning to Draco: “I really have to get out, but please stay ‘round ‘till the afternoon, I want to get a chance to talk.”

There was something so extremely intimate about having your features taken in the way that Toni’s was clearly taking him in, making Draco feel a little shy. Growing up, he knew that he bore the strongest resemblance to his mother and her family, but seeing those same features on the faces of these people made Draco realise that maybe there was a different life for him after all.
“I will, I don’t have class today,” he said in a soft voice, feeling so incredibly overwhelmed by seeing how his new family was rapidly extending before his eyes.

Tonks sent Draco a grateful smile, an acknowledgement of his reply, though her attention was divided. She had reached out a hand towards Teddy, the toddler having wrestled himself off of Sirius’ lap.
“Teddy, come say hi to your uncle Draco,” she said, inviting the kid over.
Squatting down beside him, she caught him in a loose embrace as Teddy instinctively leaned into her, glancing back up at Draco, equally excited to see either of their expressions.
“Draco, this is my son Edward. He’s gonna stay with you guys while I go to work.”

Being the only child in his generation left on his mother’s side of the family, Draco could safely say that he had never really had a lot to do with children and felt woefully unprepared. It didn’t help that Dora had referred to him as uncle, a title that seemed entirely foreign and yet somehow fitting at the same time.
Unsure hat to really do, Draco simply lifted his hand to wave at the toddler, head spinning from just how much his life had changed just in the last 24 hours.
“Hello Edward.”
