Casey sat on his engineer's seat flying towards his next assignment. Many things had happened since he began hunting bounties and bringing in criminals. He had made himself a reputation and earned a bit of fame for himself. Not only as a war hero but as the worlds first public superhero employed by the US government to combat super powered villains and criminals. It isn't all roses though many "heroes" harbor extreme animosity toward Casey and his methods.

Setting his locomotive to hover over a road in the city he leapt onto the sidewalk bellow. The police approached him telling him that they had cornered the "lizardman" in the sewers and he was to bring him out dead or alive. The suspect had allegedly killed his wife and kids when he turned and fled when police arrived at his house. Casey said not a world as he ripped the man hole cover off the ground and jumped down after throwing his overcoat off. Switching his robotic eye to night vision and thermal mode after hitting the bottom in ankle deep water.

"Asis are you picking anything up?" He asked to the robotic voice inside him. "Negative, you will see it on your neural interface. However I encourage noise discipline due to reverberation down here." His reply was quick and quiet, "understood." Casey began to walk through the sewers clearing corners quietly waiting for something to come up on one of his sensors. His gate was almost robotic and if you had seen him in the night one might mistake him for something like a terminator. His rifle set to automatic and all his many grenades ready on his person. The darkness of the sewer made him almost invisible except for the blue glow of his right eye.

He stopped, looked and listened, something faint. A hearbeat? Breathing? Yes definitely up ahead sensors picking up a panicked creature of roughly human size. He continued forward now walking a little bit faster. "Martin Zucker I am here to arrest you for murder. You can come quietly or with a fight it is up to you." Casey called out to the "lizardman".

Casey was shocked when the "lizardman" stood up and lunged at him faster than he was expecting. Martin was now at least 12 foot tall much stronger than when he entered the sewer. Casey was thrown against the sewer walls cracking a few of his ribs as Martin tried to make his escape. Casey was back up a second later and began shooting at the retreating monster. His adrenaline and a shot of morphine from ASIS prevented him from feeling the pain of his broken bones. He gave chase barely being able to keep up with the fast monster he was fighting. He knew he wounded it as he was following its blood trail. His thermals were almost useless as the "lizardman" seemed to be cold blooded.

The monster was soon cornered with Casey blocking his only escape. Casey could read the panic rising in the "Lizardman". He yelled, "Last chance, you can't escape. I don't want to kill you." Martin turn and made his play. This time Casey dodged and fired shooting the "Lizardman" through the head killing him instantly. The large beast fell to the ground almost crashing into Casey.

Casey walked towards the exit and climbed the ladder where the police were waiting. He gave his report to the police chief and submitted the recordings of the encounter to the police for the formal investigation of events. It wasn't long before Casey was back to his workshop fixing his broken ribs with his medical nanobots putting his ribs back together in the correct way and melding them together than stronger than before.

Kenji, mostly called Ken, didn’t watch the news. Rather he tried to avoid watching it as much as possible. Most of the time the theme was just horrible. It was all about people that could do something special. A small criminal robbing a bank by walking through the wall, a small hero that helped children cross the street by making them float over the traffic, a big time villain that attempted to destroy the world that got stopped by a big time superhero. It’s all the same and all the time.
To be fair, he was quite special as well. He was not proud of it, but he didn’t hate it as well. He was just a little jealous of how the others got their powers. He didn’t get them in a cool or impressive way like an experiment gone wrong, or a radioactive animal biting him, or because one of his parents happened to be an alien or a god. He got them because his sister locked him up in a dark closet when they were visiting the cern reactor at the time a little mishap happened. That is just embarrassing. Ken also doesn’t have to deal with an inner emotional conflict like battling his fear of the dark which was a result of a childhood trauma. Mainly because he wasn’t afraid of the dark and the most traumatic thing in his life would be his “lovely” sister.
Under the line he probably belonged to the most underestimated group of special people, those that hide their powers. Well, that’s what he wanted anyway. Lately, there was something going on. Ken didn’t quite know what it was. He had an inkling of it, but every time he arrived at the scene of the crime, all that he found was a dead body. Without prove, there was nothing he could do. At least he was smart enough to always hide his face when using his powers, so even though he was being suspected of being the murderer, nobody knows who he is.
Ken was on his way home from his university. The courses were not all that challenging so he had a lot of free time. Usually he would use that to get some practice with his powers in case he ever needs them. However today he decided to go home straight away and get some homework done. Despite being a university student, he still lived at home. They lived pretty close to the university and it was cheaper that way. With just a 20 minute walk he would be home. Even in the middle of the city, he enjoyed these moments of quietness.

Casey kept himself busy running his mind over the playback and analysis of his last hunt and how he killed an innocent man. Reviewing a home security feed which showed Mr.Zucker's panicked transformation that spelled the death of home invaders as his family fled. The wife and kids who were found hiding in a backyard shed after the home was fully investigated. The annihilated bodies found in the house were linked back to two local thugs by DNA. Casey stopped after reviewing his fight for the seventh time morally burnt out, he couldn't bring Mr.Zucker back.

He turned his attention to his cybernetics workbench analyzing the broken ribs. His interest was focused on how well the medical nanobots artificially healed the broken bones by infusing both ends with a durable, nontoxic, noncorroding alloy that he had been formulating for years. He kept checking for signs of rejection or worse the alloy leaching into his body. As far as his medical scanners could tell it was working but it had only been a couple days. He pondered whether it would be a good idea if he used a similar alloy to reinforce what he had left of his natural bones. His medical technology had already greatly surpassed conventional medicine having been able to replace destroyed portions of his body. He had replaced the limbs he lost to an IED initially with advanced robotic ones, however he fund that they had significant shortcomings compared to his enhanced limbs he hadn't lost. A year ago he had successfully grown replacement limbs from his DNA and attached them to his body with the help of his doctor whom he shared most of his breakthroughs with. Only a month ago did he perfect reconnecting all of the nerves giving him as much feeling and articulation as the rest of his body.

After verifying that he was in fact not dying Casey stood up and left his workshop and walked down the hill to his house. Inside he went through his nightly routine of checking social media, personal hygiene and having a stiff drink before going to sleep.

Upon entering his home, his relief that everyone was present was quickly diverted by the greetings of his lovely family. “Ugh the Freak is back,” came from the side of the living room where his “beloved” sister was sitting with her phone. ‘Freak’ was the word used for special people with a more useless power. It was insulting and downgrading, but it gets used a lot. Sadly it is true that some have an absolutely useless power, like turning into a heap of slime when getting nervous. It is just gross. Kenji’s sister doesn’t know about his power, she only uses this word to insult him. Just because they are siblings doesn’t mean that they would get along. Basically they never got along. His sister, Mari, was the older one. Not even one whole year older. Seems weird at first but then again it is the proof that you can get pregnant when you are still breastfeeding your first child. It is not hard to imagine who the unwanted child was of the two. Maybe that was also the reason that Mari didn’t like Ken, because she didn’t get enough attention as a newborn. Whatever the reason may be, it is as it is and Ken ignored her “greeting” as he put down his bag.
His father was watching tv in the living room and did not even greet him. Well, that was also normal. To avoid any conflict about that, Ken threw a greeting is his direction. This was answered by a grunt that sounded like “shut up I’m watching tv”. His mother was in the kitchen cooking dinner. “Kenji, table.” The tone of voice didn’t leave any room for protest. Nothing like ‘why me, I just came home while Mari has been here for over an hour doing nothing’. So he just went ahead and set the table for dinner without any comment. They were the kind of family that had dinner pretty early in the evening. This was because his father wanted to have dinner whenever he came home from work, no matter if he came home earlier or later than usual. In other words, he must be in a bad mood right now because dinner is not ready yet.
Dinner itself went by the same pattern as always. The food was pretty tasteless, the tv that could be seen from the dinner table was set to the news, his father grumbled about his work, his mother listed everything she did that day, his sister boasted about something pretty meaningless, and Kenji did his best to stay quiet. Even though he did not have any friends, he was not unsociable. At the university he would frequently be greeted and often had small talk with the other students from his year. Some would come to him with questions about the course or just to ask which reference books he uses. Outside of this house he was pretty much a normal human amongst the others. Inside this house it was better to act like he didn’t exist.
The news reporter interrupted his train of thoughts as his father turned up the volume, he had the remote control next to him, always. “...identity of the new hero is still unknown. By now dubbed as “Angel”, there is still only this one unclear picture of the hero that seems to be hunting the “Murderous Shadow” who is responsible for multiple deaths.” Kenji tried to ignore the loud an penetrating voice of the reporter. He didn’t even have to look to know which picture he was talking about. It had been taken a few days ago. It was a blurry picture of a woman with dark hair in a white dress standing on a rooftop. The naming sense was pretty lame as she had big white glowing wings coming out of her back. The reporter went on to list the about 10 murder cases for which the “Murderous Shadow” was being held responsible and ended with the hope that the “Angel” would soon bring judgement upon him. So far for the objectiveness of the news. Not alone was there absolutely no prove for who the murderer is, the only thing that this “hero” did was standing on a rooftop, there was no hint of her hunting anyone or even being a hero. Humans are so quick to judge based on appearance. Kenji remembered himself of his promise to himself to never let anyone find out about his powers. That he would only use them to find out who is behind these series of murders.
Dinner was finally over and after cleaning everything up by himself, Ken went to his room to do the homework that he had planned to do that evening. After finishing up he prepared for bed and read a few chapters in the roman that he had started reading last week.

Casey woke from a nightmare of his fallen comrades dragging him down into his. Reaching for a glass of water by his be he took a swig. It was a couple hours before he would normally wake up but he hoisted himself out of bed anyways. He began doing his daily routine of exercises watching himself in a mirror seeing his muscles flex and bulge without aid of his cybernetics. His phone lit up with an alert from his handler at the end of his routine. He quickly went through his personal hygiene and then walked up to his headquarters.

Checking his main computer he pulled up the message from his handler who was coordinating with the Secret City Institute (SCI). SCI being a private organization which helped to find and catalog undiscovered supers. Casey hated working with them because he viewed their work as a violation of people's individual right to privacy, but he had to abide with them due to a complex political situation. The general public barely knew of SCI due to its secretive nature hiding in the shadows of the government leviathan. SCI kept dossiers on all supers, anomalous artifacts and other anomalies. Casey's dossier titled "Railroad Man" looked more like an encyclopedia. The SCI dossier on the “Murderous Shadow” was titled "Shadowmare" and it had only a few notes of hard data. Casey's job would be too start sifting through the many leads which comprised of a narrowed down events which might have spawned such a super. From nazi wunderwaffe, chernobyl, cern failures and even alien encounters Casey's next few days would be stuck in his headquarters researching this new threat.

For Kenji it was also an early morning, also against his will. Not because of nightmares or anything like that. His father was just the one that got up first in the house and he was not exactly silent while doing that. Kenji just silently kept his eyes closed and hoped that he could still rest a bit. From that point onwards it would take one more hour until he had to get up.
He had no clue that there was a file on him. Well, not on him but on the “Murderous Shadow”. He figured that if the government knew something about him then they would have come to “pick him up” already. So he also didn’t know what was in the file. The only witnesses to the “Murderous Shadow” saw a death body and a hooded dark figure that seemed to disappear into nothing, and that’s it. Although a bit on the slim side, the silhouette could still be defined as male. Although Kenji didn’t think about any files possibly existing on him, he was scared of any government people showing up. Logically thinking, if it was not possible to lock him up then only the death penalty would be left. He was pretty sure that he would not stand a chance in a trial, if it even came that far.
The one hour was over sooner than he thought. Maybe he had been snoozing a little. As his alarm clock went off, he rolled out of bed. Kenji was not a morning person and today he had early lectures. It couldn’t be helped so he got up to start his day. Today would be a good day to practice a bit after the lectures. That is if nothing happened. At one hand he hoped that nothing would happen, because that meant that nobody dies. On the other hand he hoped for it, because that could be his chance to find the actual culprit and maybe, hopefully, disprove his hunch. But first things first. Becoming awake and have breakfast.

Casey comprised his short list of potential candidates and sent them up to higher. He looked at the one candidate he omitted from his report which seemed to be the closest match. ASIS chimed in, "Why is he special?" Casey thought for a moment and said, "He is just a boy. An incel perhaps. He would get no justice. Scarlet City is a judgemental place run by judgemental people." Asis responded, "You know you are risking a lot omitting the one named Kenji." Casey looked at the boy's face, "I have guilt Asis and I don't want to keep making the same mistakes."

After submitting the report Casey filled out an immediate request for time off starting tomorrow. Casey never had a shortage of personal leave days because he rarely used them due to a habit left over from the military. The agency was typically expedient with the paperwork surrounding their enhanced individuals. Casey turned his attention back to his personal projects checking his mended rib cage. Finding the results satisfactory Casey began running simulations on reinforcing most of his bones with his metal alloy. Casey pondered the ethical implications of continuing to replace and upgrade his flesh and blood. He wondered how much longer he would be considered human. Lost in thought for several hours Casey failed to see his request for the next week off approved until he packed up for the night. In the morning he would be taking his train to scarlet city.

That morning in Scarlet City…

The sun streaked across Kira’s face as she woke up. Wincing at the golden light she turned over with a tired groan and drifted off again. “Time to rise and shine! Get up and at it Kira!” her brother called, his voice flooding her room and waking her again. She buried a string of profanities in her pillow and forced herself out of bed and into the shower on unsteady legs.
She was slightly more alert by the time her brother had made a bowl of porridge for her. He sliced some strawberries into them before handing it to her with a smile that Kira thought nobody should be able to produce this early in the morning. “Enjoy.” He said as he straightened his tie and got his bag for work. “I left a list of chores on the kitchen table for you to do after school, I should be back around seven. Have a good day!”
Kira ate the porridge after he left and put her unfinished homework in her bag and swung it over her shoulder. She shivered as she stepped outside, the suburban street was still in the shade and her school uniform's skirt didn’t help. She put in her earphones and started walking towards her high-school, taking her usual route which limited the chances of human interaction with her fellow students.
Twenty minutes later she was almost at school but stopped by a nearby shop to pick up a sandwich and some water for lunch. She got in and out of the shop as fast as possible. Kira started walking the last five minutes or so towards school. There still weren’t many other students around, her route was well thought out.
“Well I suppose you’ll have to do.” A deep, raspy voice announced, making Kira jump and flick out her earphones. Kira spun around just as someone emerged from an alley, pulling a balaclava over their face in one smooth motion. “I hate to tell you this kid, but this really isn’t your lucky day.” He said, coming out into the sun. He was massive, built like a bodybuilder and wearing some kind of armoured vest over a set of black utilities. Kira started stepping back, fear making her tremble. She could feel her power waking up inside her on it's own, a subtle heat at first, then an inferno as the man stepped closer. Her chest began to glow because of it, radiating through her white school shirt. “Well, well looks like you’re powered huh? Some people pay extra for that.” He pulled a gun from his belt and aimed at Kira. She tried to engage a blast but something slammed into her thigh, then a steady sleepiness poured into her. The world spun, her vision blurred and just as she realised just how truly inadequate she was with her powers, she lost consciousness.

Casey was up early lighting a fire in the locomotive and preparing the rest of his rolling stock. He decided he would only need the armory, medical computer and personal coaches and then his Jet-bike chained down to a flat bed. All of the rolling stock had special levitation pads which drew power from the Black Bullet when hooked up. The sun had just come up as his train pulled out of the mine and into the sky. Flying over the American countryside was something he often enjoyed and he was surprised seeing a little stream of black smoke on some railroad tracks along his path. He pulled the Black Bullet down low parallel to the train on the tracks finding it to be UP844. He blew the whistle at the engineer who returned the greeting and pulled ahead utilizing the Black Bullet's full speed. It wasn't long before Casey was on approach to the Scarlet City rail yard where he landed the Black Bullet.

After shutting down the Black Bullet he walked to the back of his train and unchained his jet-bike. His jet-bike which was illegal in ten states was a bare bones piece of machinery capable of flying at high speeds, but would suffice to get Casey around town. He started it up and sat himself onto its seat as it lifted off of the flatcar with the whirring of its jet engines. ASIS directly interfaced with the flight controls of the jet-bike allowing Casey to safely fly his bike. Shooting across the rail yard and down a street obeying traffic laws as he entered the city.

He arrived at a relatively fancy restaurant and bar around about lunch time. Parking his jet-bike on the side of the street Casey walked inside immediately spotted his long time friend smoking a cigar alone in a booth and walked over to him. He sat in the booth across from the old blond man, who looked no older than forty five in great physical shape. "I fought in three armies against the red monsters and now good for nothing kids who can't get out of their parents basement want to bring it to our shores." The man says before smiling and greeting Casey in an accent that had hints of Finnish and German in it. "It is good to see you again Norton. I take it you are here on business."

"I'm on vacation, Thorne." Casey says lighting a cigar. He picked up his menu looking over the many options he had for lunch.

"Bullshit. I know you don't take vacations save to burn leave days." Thorne says laughing at Casey as a waiter arrived to take their order. They both ordered a whiskey paired with their cigars and a hearty meal. "Well whatever your business is I would love to get your help finishing a project of mine tonight. You see I have been scoping out a den of human traffickers just across the street, I saw them grab a young girl earlier this day."

"Why haven't you called the cops?" Casey asked suddenly very interested.

Thorne replied getting quiet and leaning in, "The cops have been paid off by a handful of city officials who take the victims to their estates out of town. One of the officials should be there tonight to select another victim. Capturing as many of them as possible will be a priority and I couldn't do it on my own."

"Alright as soon as we are done here meet me at my train and bring all of your necessary plans with you. We can do it as soon as possible." Casey says before their food arrives where they totally drop their operation. Casey completely drops his investigation into Kenji for the day and doesn't even mention it to Thorne.

It was quite the common knowledge that any kind of government kept a list of people involved in weird accidents. After the weird wave came from the cern reactor, Kenji and the rest of his family had to go through some very thorough health checks as well. The mistake that he made in his thinking was that since they didn’t find anything back then, he would be off the list by now.
As always, Kenji felt a bit of relief when he left his house. In addition to the slight prick of guilt for feeling like that, he also didn’t look forward to this day. Today, he took the bus in order to be a bit earlier at his university so that he could return a book to the library. In the bus he checked the news on his phone. Although he tried to avoid all the articles about special people doing good and bad stuff, he still wanted to know what was happening in the world. It seemed like the major wanted to go for re-election. Tough luck after getting sued by a minor for unsuitable behaviour. Still, voting for the pervert may be better than the other candidates. Hero stopped bank robbery. Villain robbed old lady. Head hunter killed mutated family father. Wtf? Kenji knew it was about someone special but still he had to read the article. It was a tragic story even though the headline promised some action. A family father mutated into a lizardman and ran wild. Apparently he had killed his entire family. It was not clear from the article if the man had shown even a hint of a conscious mind. A famous head hunter, called Casey J. Norton, came to the city and killed the lizardman. Mr Norton was famous for hunting down special people that have gone down the wrong way.
Kenji turned off his phone. He shouldn’t have read that article. This uneasy feeling would stick to him for a while. The bus arrived at his university on time and he headed to the library to return his book before heading to his lecture. One of the other students from his year walked up to him for a friendly chat. Another one bluntly asked if he could copy Ken’s homework. Requests like this would always be rejected. He didn’t mind to explain stuff if he had time, but he was against plain copying. During the conversation he heard another unsettling news. More and more people kept disappearing in the city. Although that didn’t sound like it had anything to do with his “problem”, it was still adding to the unsettling feeling that he had since reading that news article.

Kira sat in the corner of a dark, dank, crowded cell, her hair wet from a leak above her. The ceiling was low, wet and dripping and pooling on the filthy concrete floor. Moss and mold grew above and around her and she hunched her shoulders to stay away from the walls. She flinched every few seconds as a trickle of water insisted on dripping onto her no matter how she positioned herself. Her school uniform was soaked and she shivered uncontrollably, pulling her knees to her chest. She wasn't alone in the cell. She counted twelve other people, mostly younger woman and girls and three teenage boys. Someone was trying to stifle her crying on the other side of the room. It was a girl, a few years younger than Kira if she had to guess. The cell had one door. It was metal, rusting but had newer fittings which had clearly been installed recently. There were no windows and only a single, small air vent over the door. Because of this and the dank surroundings, Kira guessed she was underground. Although she thought she could blow the door with one of her discharges, the room was too crowded and she didn't know what an explosion would do in such a rundown, underground room. Her powers infuriated Kira now more than ever before. Unlike the heroes that saved people like these, her own ability was too dangerous to even attempt an escape. She bitterly attacked herself in her mind as she contemplated her uselessness.
Kira didn't know how long she had been trapped. It felt like it had been days confined in the musty, moist room, surrounded by terrified people and barely managing to keep herself from falling apart. Her entire life, especially after her parents died, she had handled bad situations with at least an appearance of calmness. Looking at the other captives she guessed they had been taken a lot longer ago. The other girls' hair was matted to their faces and their clammy skin was covered in grime. They had probably been here for days, maybe even weeks.
Kira hadn't seen much of her captors, but her head still swam from whatever drug they had dosed her with which put her to sleep. They had come in twice, seemingly to count them. She had a small sample size but they all seemed to wear balaclavas and some kind of combat armor vest and were all armed. As she thought about their menacing intrusions into the room she heard footsteps and rough voices on the other side of the door.
"He's almost here, get the girls cleaned up and ready for selection."
"Yes, Sir."
The rusty door burst open with a deafening clatter as it bounced off the wall, sending a spray of water over the room. Four burly men charged in with bats and pistols drawn. "Gentlemen, get the **** up against the far wall, put your hands and faces against it now!" One shouted, his thunderous voice muffled by his mask. The boys did so, one getting a whip with a baton for his slow reaction. "Ladies, get up and form a single file line. Move!"
Kira's knees cracked and ached as she stood, shuffling to form a line with the others, her black Converse shoes squelching on the wet floor with every, awkward step. They were walked out of the room and rounded up a dimly lit stairway that seemed to stretch up forever. Kira gave up trying to spot the top in the darkness, instead letting her cloudy head hang, concentrating on lifting one leg after the other again and again.

Casey raced to his starting position on his jet bike. Thorne provided overwatch from a building down the street covering all other exits with a tranquilizer rifle. He watched as Casey passed behind the surface building through the iron sights of the rifle. He radioed down, "Are you ready?" A quiet noise of a man being tasered came back over the radio and a "Ready." Thorne looked over his shoulder as a number of black vans drove down the street moving towards the trafficker house. "Alright go for it. I am covering the exits." He said back to Casey.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Casey leapt from his jet-bike unholstering his pistols as he hears Thorne's voice over the radio. Before landing Casey tasers a guard at the rear exit of the building. He replies as the man quietly slumps to the ground, "ready." He hears his go ahead as he lands. He disarms the tasered man and binds him up dragging him away from the door. Another armed man walks out the door and he is immediately taken down silently by Casey. Casey very quickly enters the building magnetically sealing the metal door. He quickly looks around his dirty environment and follows the rehearsed plans based on Larry Thorne's reconnaissance missing not a single person on the ground floor. Casey waited for a second not yet having been detected having found the corrupt city official's liaison and disabled him. According to the plans there should only be ten of the traffickers down the only staircase in the building. He walked down the stairs with all of his sensors active ready for anything as he kicks down the door of the main holding cell firing his duel pistols wildly at any armed person in the room.

The lecture that morning was pretty interesting. However, Kenji couldn’t concentrate. The news article bothered him and wouldn’t leave his mind. The thing with the higher amount of disappearances was also floating around at the edge of his mind. And today, today would theoretically be one of those days. Kenji had found out about the loose pattern a few weeks ago. The reason that the authorities haven’t found it was probably because there were not always witnesses to see him at the crime scene. It didn’t always go conform the pattern but mostly it did. Today was such a day. It could very well be that today an innocent person would lose their live. It could also be the day that he could find out who the real “Murderous Shadow” is. Kenji had a hunch but no evidence whatsoever. Not even a hint. Sometimes he wondered how he even got that hunch. Maybe it was because of the pattern. But there were so many people that fell into the same pattern.
The lecture was over before he knew it. He didn’t take any notes. Kenji sighed, he hoped that the professor would post his powerpoint presentation on the university server, then he could at least study that. A look towards the time told him that it was still way too early for the pattern to kick in. And in the afternoon he had another lecture. He could use the meantime to study in the library. Not that he would get much studying done today. Maybe it would be better to organise his study material so that he could study at a better time.

The doors were blasted open revealing a lone figure standing there, a gun in each hand. he opened fire in the same instant. With supernatural speed and precision three of the armed kidnappers where shot, two fell to the ground with heavy thuds while the other stumbled into some of his fellow comrades. They were gunned down next, neither of the three of them able to get off a shot in retaliation. The guard nearest to Kira swung his AK-12 off his shoulder and took aim at the attacker before being pounded in the chest by a shot. His armored vest saved his life, managing to prevent the shot from piercing all the way through. Despite this, he was blasted back several places and a strange corrosive effect was evident where he was hit. He regained his composure impressively fast, raising his weapon to fire. Kira launched herself at him, tackling around the mid section and driving her legs as hard and fast as she could. He drove the magazine of his rifle into her back as he stumbled back causing Kira to scream in agony but continue to push due to a sharp spike of adrenaline. The man was hit again, Kira was able to feel the shock through him, and slumped onto her as his body turned into a dead weight. Her tired legs gave out and she collapsed, her exposed knees scrapping painfully on the rough ground. As she lay on the ground, pinned down by the weight of the guard. Her limbs felt exhausted, she could barely move. She tried to shift the body but it didn't budge. "Help" Kira choked out, her voice weak and creaky from dehydration.

Casey fired fast as he shot each of the guards down. He pointed his pistol at the last one in the cage and fired again and again until the man falls. The hail of bullets produced by the last man flew towards Casey. Grazing him in many places but one of them came for his arm and pierced through his bone making it go limp. Casey heard a quiet quiet, "help!" from under the man in the pain and confusion. Then came a bright light a second later, a massive spike of energy on all of his sensors. He covered his face with his functioning arm as a large explosion threw him into the wall behind him cracking more of his ribs. He blacked out as he fell to the floor in a pool of his own blood.

Casey awoke to Thorne helping him up in a room where something had changed. The room was full of FBI agents and Thorne had changed. "Hey, buddy are you with me?" Thorne asked now wearing an FBI uniform. Confusion swarmed over Casey's mind so he simply nodded as he stood one both. His ribs and arm weren't the only broken parts of his body as he put his weight on his right foot he felt his ankle fail now broken too. He pushed Thorne off of him as he limped up the stairs. The FBI agents made way for him as he made his way to his jet-bike. Thorne took command of the situation getting all of the victims out of the basement and identifying them. The medics onsite began to treat the injuries of everyone involved treating the concussion of the blast.

Casey reached his Jet-bike which was inside the cordoned of area of the streets. The entire block was swarmed with FBI personnel and state police. Casey sat down on his jet-bike opening a compartment full of vials other medical equipment. He took a shot of morphine finally dealing with the horrendous amount of pain he was in. He grabbed a vial full of the same nano-alloy he used on his ribs and injected it into his shoulder. Morphine or not it was still incredibly painful as the special mixture moved down to mend his shattered humerus. Within a couple seconds it had set and he tended to his ribs and ankle using a similar procedure. He turned his attention to his still bleeding arm and applied a special bandage that would remove all of the shattered bone and dead tissue and replace it with proper tissue over the course of a couple hours. With his wounds tended too he stood up locking his Jet-Bike and walking back to Thorne who was absolutely shocked seeing Casey walk almost normally. Casey looked at the girls and quickly tried to start identifying which one the blast came from finally coming to a small high school aged blond girl who stood a little over five foot. "Are you a super, young lady?" He asked the pale girl. His glowing blue robotic eye seemed like it could pierce into her soul. He thought for a second and he knelt down to her height and spoke in a much gentler tone, "its alright. You are safe now. Do you have any family that I can talk to in this city." As he was speaking ASIS was going through dossiers which Casey had read previously trying to find a match and coming up empty.

The entire block was locked down by the FBI and police who maintained a perimeter against the press and onlookers. Several ambulances had already been brought inside the cordoned off area and a treatment area was set up amidst the other vehicles. Nobody was seriously injured apart from some of the kidnappers, all the victims were suffering from either undernourishment or mild to serious concussion with a few possessing non-serious cuts.
Kira sat on the ground amongst the other young victims with a blanket wrapped around her, completely unharmed apart from a pain in the back where she was hit. Despite this her uniform was burned in several places and she felt exhausted after unleashing a discharge, the recoil of which knocked her unconscious. Although she couldn't clearly remember the exact moment she unleashed a blast, she was painfully aware that she caused a plethora of injuries and might have killed the man who fell on top of her - although she wasn't sorry about that last part.
As the paramedics bustled around, tending to the others, Kira sat on the verge of tears, angry at herself for losing control and causing so much trouble on top of the already hellish day. She pulled her knees close to her as she noticed a tall man wearing a long trench coat walking directly towards her, stopping and towering above her.
"Are you a super, young lady?" He asked sternly, his glowing, non-wavering robotic eye appeared to stare right through Kira as she sat, curled up like a wounded kitten on the paramedics' blankets. She swallowed hard, her light blue eyes darted anywhere but his, unsure of what to say. She didn't know if they knew she had used her power, or what they would do if they found out. She recognised the man, he was a hero and was the one who rescued them - would he treat her like a criminal because she hurt the victims of the kidnapping?
A long silenced passed and Kira's heart began to race faster and faster while he looked down at her. The menacing man crouched down, his face almost level with Kira's. "It's alright. You are safe now. Do you have any family that I can talk to in this city."
"Y..y-es." She stammered quietly, still not meeting his gaze. "My brother."

As the small frightened girl responded ASIS matched her face to a one Kira Ziegler from a student ID reported absent from school earlier this day. Records came up of her brother living across town in an apartment. Casey responded softly after reviewing his recording of her attempted heroics, "it's over now. These FBI agents will take care of you. You were very brave and did your best. I will bring him here he must be very worried about you." Casey without saying another word stood up and walked away from the young Kira. Walking to his Jet-Bike and mounting it as ASIS plotted a course for their residence.

Thoughts raced through Casey's head as he rode his Jet-bike through the city. Kira wasn't listed as a super most likely due to being over looked. It wasn't like being a super was common as they were far less than one percent of the US population. He thought as he remembered talking to a talk show host a couple years back that it was speculated that a good portion of the population that are supers don't even know themselves that they are supers due to a variety of reasons. There was still no way to screen people to detect whether they had powers at all yet along at early ages. Casey looked up from the road and saw a little kid in a car next to him staring. Casey smiled and waved to the little boy as he over took that car. It wasn't far now to the home of the Zieglers. Casey wondered what he would say to the young man.

Casey pulled up to the residence and landed his jet-bike on the side of the street. He approached the suburban house and prepared himself to bring the news to Kira's brother. He stepped up on the porch walking to the door. He was about to knock on the door when he saw a door bell and rang that instead. Casey announced, "Federal Super Agency. This is agent Norton."

The door to the small residence swung open and a bedraggled looking man in his late twenties stood clasping his phone and stared at Casey with a look of dread on his face. He was wearing a white shirt that had obvious sweat patches under the arms and his tie was hanging loosely around his dishevelled collar. His shirt wasn't tucked into the pair of suit pants he had on and he wasn't wearing shoes. He was clasping his phone with white knuckles, and his dirty blonde hair was messy as though he had been pulling at it.
"Federal Super Agency?" He said, any colour draining from his already ashen, shaved face. "Please tell me you know where my sister is?" He said. "Please tell me she's not..." He trailed off, a lump forming in his throat.

Casey reached in his coat pulling out a cigarette and lighting it calmly as the young man talked exasperatedly. He hated cigarettes but they were nice in a pinch especially since he was able to replace his lungs if he ever got cancer. He waited for the panicked words from the young man to cease before he calmly replied, "Your sister is safe. She is with the FBI now. She was rescued from a human trafficking den not an hour ago. That is not the sole reason I am here but that can wait. I suggest you get cleaned up before we go to the federal building. I will fill you in on the details on the way there." Casey turned a little bit to blow smoke away from the doorway as a courtesy to young man.
