Got that little thing you wanna get off your chest? You know, that little thing you're not really proud of, but you still do or did? Confess to us! We won't judge (much).

I'll confess first:

My male characters are not nice people just for the kindness of their hearts. They want something. Be it money, a free meal, or a hot chick in bed, they always want something.

My characters are usually iconoclast in some way. They are either in conflict with their societies and the associated sacred cows, or their existence is somehow unacceptable to their societies' accepted norms. Some them deal with it better than others.

One of my very first experiences in roleplay, I committed a lot of rp crimes such as bunnying and power playing. Thankfully I had some patient friends who taught me what was alright and what was not. <3

Most of my characters have dark pasts- and are often of the nice/brooding variety.

Same as Marco: most of my characters have very dark pasts that make them act in various ways (telling jokes all the time and smiling a lot to cover up)
I also make character pairs a lot. I don't know why but I usually have a two character minimum in each story and those two are either friends or siblings (I make lots of twins for some reason)

Kiddo's not the only one with crimes in his past, though mine were more of Godmodding and such mostly due to lack of RP experience. I made some friends some of which aided in bringing me to my current RP level.

I kiiiiinda want to get into stat based RP. But I am also way, way, WAY too lazy to actually do it.

Speaking of a want to do a type of rp. I have always wanted to do something kind of like D&D. Though I have never tried it and would probably ruin the whole thing.

When I first started roleplaying, I was really bad about OOC/IC knowledge, and constantly pestered other characters with my own with really bad dialogue.

I also still use a self-insert character in a TON of roleplays...

Two female US Army Officers graduated from the US Army Ranger School at Ft. Benning, GA on Friday. I intend to create a Military RP set about 25 years in the future involving an all female Ranger unit on some covert operation somewhere in the world.

Back when I first started RPing, I'd only participate in real life fantasy/apocalypse stories. And I was terrible for making my characters overly important and OP I was just an awful person to write with.

alsooo... I'm unfairly picky with the people I write with.

There's been a couple times I've bailed on RP's without saying a word. Though to be fair to myself, those were all times I was GMing a group and had a mental breakdown over their bull#$%&.
The last one was a Pathfinder game with high-level evil characters and it ended with me swearing off D&D 3.5 derivatives basically forever.

My first time playing D&D I had the WORST character ever. He was a ninja raised by chaotic good duergar (basically the dark elf equivalent of dwarves) who were circus performers. And to boot he was poorly optimized. Most Mary-Sue-ish special snowflake I've ever made, and the best part is, I had an awesome semi-unique (I same semi because he was directly inspired by me reading some Spider-Man comics with Venom at the time) character that I dumped before starting the game for this guy.
And when the GM objected over the backstory I through a hissy fit about how my character was "too imaginative" for him. No joke. I mean I was 16 at the time but up til then I had been waaay more mature about RP stuff (even in the Inuyasha RP I did).
No justification for that one.

I once completely threw away the characterization I had for a character solely so I could start a lesbian romance with one of the other characters (though in retrospect this arguably made for a better character anyway).

You can't ruin D&D by being a n00b.
You can only ruin it by knowing too much.

it's so easy to screw up when you're a rookie. Ego is a ****ing. Check it at the door. Read the rules and just do the best you can. Worst thing you can do in an RP is change your character (unless thats what they do). Never leave people scratching their heads saying WTF?

Confession: I don't actively seek out grim, dark RPs. But sometimes, they just develop in that way for me, and I really enjoy it when they do.

The worst thing you can do in an RP is try to change someone else's character...
