It was breaking the Ravager code and he knew it. Taking children from their homes all over the galaxy and bringing them to their father. He didn't bother asking why, the units were enough to satisfy him, that was until suspicion began arising.

Yondu Udonta had been trafficking children for Ego for years now. Each time he brought one back he was met with gratitude and given the name and approximate location of the next. He had wanted none of it after the first kid, but the promise of an increased payment in units kept the Ravager captain going back. It was during one of these deliveries that Yondu began to question where all the others were. It seemed that every time he brought a kid to Ego they disappeared. Sure, it was a big planet, but how could it be that all this time and not one had been seen? The Ravager captain would never admit it but he always developed a small connection with each kid during the brief time they were on his ship. Never having a family of his own outside of the Ravagers, the Centaurian always regretted leaving each one behind. He always secretly hoped at least one of them would remember him and come see him as he brought their brother or sister, but this never happened.

Whenever Yondu asked about them, Ego would quickly give him the next assignment and send him off. Yondu would find the kid, bring them back, and the cycle would repeat. Until now. As he boarded the M-Ship with a few members of his crew he had brought with him for this very purpose, Yondu piloted the ship towards the Elector but instead of boarding, he doubled back to the planet. Landing the M-Ship in one of the many fields, away from the usual place he met Ego, the Ravagers split up and began their hunt, not for pricey items, but for clues. He knew they didn't have much time before Ego would realize they were there so it was with great relief, and horror when Yondu came across a series of caves underneath the surface. Deep within the caverns were skeletons, many, many skeletons of children. Forcing back a wave of anger and his immediate thoughts of wanting to kill Ego right then (something he knew he physically couldn't do), Yondu contacted his crew and met back at the M-Ship. He didn't say what he had seen, but by his expression the others knew not to prod unless they wanted to be bedridden for a few weeks at best, at worst, an arrow through the skull.

Nobody was ever made aware of what their captain had discovered, and apart from Yondu's exclamations of Ego being an even bigger jackass than before, the subject was never brought up, that is, until they were sent on a hunt for a Terrain boy named Peter Quill. The crew that had been with the captain when they had delivered the last child knew that this one was going to bring them in even more units than before, something had to keep them from accepting the assignments after all and Ego knew this. He had seen the suspicion in the Ravagers and had needed something to take their mind off it, what better way then with units? This had done nothing to persuade Yondu, and after what he had seen in the cave, he was glad he had been able to see past what this man --- planet? was trying to pull.

Peter sat in the waiting room of the hospital with his walkman he just wanted everything to be okay even though he knew that it would never happen he sat there listening to the music trying to block out the world around him when his uncle came up to him and pulled his headphones off Peter heard his uncle say that his mother wanted to see him but he did not move Peter did not want to leave where he was but he did not have much choice when he was pulled off the chair and was walked towards the door of his mothers room. His uncle stopped him to put the walkman in his bag then he was walked into the room that was full of his family members around his mother. Peter did not look his mother in the eye he did not want to she her like this. he listened to what she had to say to him until Peters uncle interrupted her Peter looked down at his mothers bed to the gift she had for him he did not take it his uncle placed it in his bag peter wanted to leave the room he hated seeing his mother like this. Peter only looked up but he never made eye contact with his mother he heard her telling him to take her hand but Peter was afraid and he didn't peter did not move or take her hand even. Peter later looked up to see his mother lying still in her bed he did not want to leave her he later felt his uncles arms around him he was picked up and moved outside of the room he did not want this she could not be gone Peter watched as his uncle stood in his way. then dissaper back into his mothers room Peter did not know what to do he turned around and ran out of the hospital he ignored the calls of his other family members he just kept running and did not look back Peter later fell to his knees outside of the hospital he was alone in the dark of the night until he was surrounded by the light of something above him he did not know what it was until it was to late. Peter later looked around to see what did not seem familiar to him anymore.

Peter looked around his new surroundings he was surrounded by well you wouldn't call them human and as they talked to one another Peter noticed that they sounded a bit hostile Peter saw and opening and ran for it he ran down a corridor of where ever the heck he was he ended up running into someone looking up to see what or who he had ran into. Peter did not stay long to find out he ran the opposite direction of who ever they were. Peter ran to a door that he was able to open when he entered the room he saw that they were getting further away from earth he turned back to see if he had been followed but it was what happened next that is what he should have been afraid of the room he opened up and he was pulled out of where ever he was and into the darkness that was space.

"How many more of these we gonna do? Picking up the kids I mean." Kraglin asked as he leaned against the doorway. Yondu never turned around to face the youngest member of his crew, instead he was too focused on the navigation system before him. Not getting an answer, the first mate came to stand next to the captain, reading the screen.

"Terra? Ain't that some backwards planet with primitive beings?"

"None a my business, and none of yers either." Yondu answered, still not looking to the man. With a shrug, Kraglin moved to his own chair, dropping into it as it would take them a few days to reach Terra from where they currently were anyway.

Those days went by without a hitch, apart from the usual Ravager problems. When the Elector finally reached its destination it took an extra couple of days to track the kid down. There were a lot of Terrans and they needed to find one specific one. It was lucky for the Ravagers that the kid was outside AND alone when the got him. Saved them the trouble of convincing the family, or causing a scene. Terrans may be dumb, but they had a nasty habit of shooting anything that looked "alien" to them.

Getting the kid on the ship wasn't a problem. The crew had practice after all the others and a few were even in the cargo hold ready to hold him until the captain got there. As the crew gathered around the Terran child, the began bickering between each other. Some wanted to see how long it would take for him to squeal, while others were more concerned with what it could do, having never seen a Terran before. Before anyone could do anything, the kid was gone, making a break for it. Immediately a few ran after him, knowing if they lost him they'd be dealing with something much worse than a frightened Terran. A few remained, snickering at the kid's stupidity. The Elector was a big ship and getting lost was an easy thing to do if you didn't know the layout.

Yondu had been making his way to the cargo hold, not really thinking about it as he had done the same thing many times before with each child they had taken. It was a surprise though when he saw the Terran child run right into him before taking off again. When Yondu looked up it was to the sight of a few members of his crew looking angry, as well as frightened upon seeing their captain.

"You let 'im go?!"

"Captain you don't understand, the little bastard is fast!"

Making a note to deal with them later, Yondu turned in the direction the kid had gone. It was when he reached the airlock that he swore. Of all the places the kid could have gotten, this was it. Opening the door, Yondu acted without thinking. With a short whistle the boy was brought to his feet, an arrow pierced through the back of his shirt. When the weapon was back in its holster, Yondu stooped down and picked the kid up. He hadn't been outside for that long, but he was also a small thing and the Ravager captain didn't know how much damage he had taken. Ignoring the words of his crew as he shoved past them, Yondu carried the unconscious kid to the medical bay.

Laying him down on the one clean and clutter free beds, Yondu looked down at the Terran who was already causing him so much trouble. As the crew's surgeon carefully assessed the child, Yondu wondered why he had bothered saving his ass. It would have been easy enough to say they had lost him and be done with Ego, but something had made the Centaurian haul the kid back on the ship and carry him to be patched up.

As the surgeon went in search of something, Yondu removed the bag from the child's back, setting it aside for later. He also pulled a small device from his jacket and had the surgeon install the translator when he returned. It would help if the kid could understand what was being said to him. Stepping back, the captain gave Kraglin the bag to take to his quarters when he came to check in, before waiting for the kid to wake up.

Peter knew he was dead or at least he should have been the last thing that he remembered was when he had been pulled out into space and then he had gone unconscious only to later wake up in some room it looked like the ship he was on. Peter was confused why had he been saved they could have left him out in space and be done with him but he was alive and safe Peter still wanted to go home he did not like this place he had not noticed it when he first woke up he felt sore but did not know why. peter sat up and looked around the room he was in it was mostly empty. Peter had a lot of questions like why was he here, who were these people if you could even call them that, and many more. Peter wanted answers but he was still kind of frightened and he just wanted to go back home and be with his family rather than with who or what these people were. Peter wanted to go and find a way off this ship peter went to the edge of the bed he was on and jumped down to the floor he then realised that his bag was missing he would have to find it and then get off of this ship. Peter walked around the room to try and find his bag he looked all over for it but it was nowhere to be seen maybe it was somewhere else in this place.

Yondu had waited for the small Terran to wake but soon left for the bridge. He had better things to do than sit around watching an unconscious kid. He had instructed the surgeon to inform him if anything changed and had promptly left. The Ravager captain stopped once in his quarters to grab that bag the kid had had with him before making his way to his captain's chair. Kraglin and Horuz had met him there, both equally curious about their latest piece of cargo. Ignoring their questions, Yondu had unzipped the bag and began pulling things from it.

A stack of letters, a wrapped up box, some strange things he assumed were some sort of toys -- why else would a kid have them? -- and finally an unknown device with wires coming out of one end. Setting the bag aside, Yondu tried to figure out what the heck this thing was and if it would be worth anything. Flipping it over and over, the Centaurian pressed the buttons along the device's surface resulting in the thing opening. Pulling out the small rectangular object the thing had been holding, Yondu's exploration was disrupted by his communicator.

"Cap't sir, it's the Terran, he's awake." The surgeon said, clearly distracted by something else.

Standing, Yondu pocketed the device and once more returned to the medbay. When the captain arrived, he stopped in the doorway having opened the door to find the boy wandering around the room, looking a little lost but otherwise fine after his little stunt. Crossing his arms Yondu leaned against the frame and shook his head. He let the Terran roam for another few moments before speaking up.

"What'cha looking for, boy?" The captain asked, catching sight of the surgeon in his office, peering out at the Terran and his captain. He had a feeling it had something to do with that bag and he was glad he had grabbed it before coming back down here. It was only a guess but Yondu figured if the kid got his bag back he might not try to bolt again so soon. The last thing they needed was another chase. Tossing the bag onto the bed the kid had previously been in, Yondu closed the door behind him. There was no escaping this room, and though none of them were sure what exactly a Terran could do, Yondu thought he could probably take it.

Peter had not heard someone come in the room so he jumped when he heard someone speak to him he did not turn to face them he stayed silent for a while only looking up when he heard something land on the bed looking up to see his bag. Peter pulled it over and looked inside everything was there except for his walkman he pulled the things out of his bag but he was sure it was in his bag but he did not find it Peter put everything back in his bag and closed it. He still did not want to face the person that had come into the room but that door was the only way out of here but he would have to face the person soon enough know that he could not avoid them forever he turned around to face the person in front of the door still not looking them in the eye he knew that there was no way that he could get past them the there was the chance that the door was locked and he had no time to find another way out. Peter finally decide to speak “I was looking for something”. Peter then asked this person his question that he needed answered “Where am I and How is it that I can understand you” Peter waited for an answer but still searched for and escape.

Yondu grinned when the kid jumped, refusing to even look at him or so much as move until the bag hit the medical bed. Yondu watched with his arms crossed, his brow furrowed as the kid pulled all the things out of the bag. He was clearly not content with what he had found, or hadn't found, and the Ravager captain had a good idea as to what that thing was. Yondu remained silent, casting his crimson gaze towards the surgeon's office door a few times and catching sight of the alien watching from the other side of the window. It was true that none of them had really come in contact with a Terran before, but surely they weren't all that bad. This one hadn't tried anything yet, and Yondu couldn't see any outward dangers. No spikes, fangs, claws.

When the kid finally faced turned to face him Yondu was pleased to hear him speak. At least he could do something other than kicking, screaming, and looking lost.

"Figured that." Yondu said in reply. It didn't take a genius to realize the kid had been looking for something. His next question wasn't all that surprising either. "Ya ain't on Terra no more boy. Course, that much is probably obvious." Yondu laughed as he pulled a chair over and took a seat, looking right at home on his own ship with this odd Terran creature. "And ya understand me cause a that translator in yer head." Yondu tapped the place where it would have been installed on his own head, just behind the ear. He watched the kid some more before pulling the device he had found in his bag from his pocket.

"Don't s'pose yer looking for this, eh?" He held the device up where the kid could clearly see it. He turned it over in his hand, once more trying to figure out what it did, what it was for. "What's it for anyways?" He asked, his curiosity peaked.

Peter listened to this person he was confused about calling his home Terra Peter felt his next behind his ear pulling his hand away there was a small bit of blood on his hand he quickly wiped it off on his pants. Peter than watched him pulled out the Walkman he had been searching for he resisted the urge to just try and grab it from this person. “Yes I was looking for that it's called a Walkman its for listening to music you put a cassette in the Walkman then you put the headphone on and press the play button and you can listen to whatever music you have in it. Peter looked around the room he was in there was only him and this man Peter did not like it that this person had the gift from his mother. Peter wanted to get it back but he couldn’t just take it form this guy Peter stood there and waited to see what this person would do next it occurred to him that he didn't even know the name of this person maybe that would be his next question to ask him. Peter still did not like this he wanted to get out of this room but he saw that there was no way out of here at the moment he want to grab the Walkman and leave here.

Yondu listened to the explanation of the device, a Walkman. He didn’t understand half of what the kid was saying, but the point was clear, this thing was important to him.

“Huh.” Was the only reply the Ravager captain gave as he looked the device over once more before slipping it back into his pocket. He could use it to get the kid to cooperate if he had to, a bargaining chip of sorts. Watching the kid, Yondu tried once more to figure out what was so special about Terrans. He knew their planet was kind of backwards, but the kid looked harmless enough. Figuring that since he was up he couldn’t be in too bad of a condition, especially considering he had managed to evade most of his crew earlier and get himself sucked into space. He was a hell raiser.

“I don’t know much about yer species kid, but I figure ya still gotta eat.” Yondu said without moving from his chair, arms crossed as he continued to observe. “And I’ll tell ya this now, I got much better things te be doin’ then watchin’ over yer behind.” Standing, the captain approached the Terran, placing one hand on his shoulder so he couldn’t take off on him again.

“Ya try another stunt like earler and I won’t hesitate to let ‘em eat ya.” He gave as a warning before opening the door leading out to the hall. “So let’s go!” He ordered, already walking in the direction of the kitchens.

Peter had been hoping that after giving the explanation of the device the man would have given it back to him But Peter watched as he put it in his pocket Peter went to back away from the guy but when he put a hand on his shoulder Peter froze for a moment not wanting to move especially after the statement that if tried what he had done before that he wouldn’t hesitate to let his crew it him. Peter would make a note to not try that again even though he was not planning to get sucked out into space again doing that once was good enough. Peter did not fight against this man because he could tell that it was a fight that he would not be able to win with a man that was taller and stronger then he was. Whatever was going on Peter still did not know if he was ready for it or if he would ever get used to being away from his home would he ever see his family ever again would he ever see earth again.

It wasn’t hard to get the kid to the dining area, he seemed more scared than anything. This, of course, made Yondu’s job much easier as it meant he was less likely to fight him on the way. Yondu could easily just pick the kid up and carry him where he wanted, and a few kicks and punches sent his way wouldn’t do any damage, but if the kid cooperated, why not work with that.

Judging by the time, the shifts would be switching soon and the dining area would soon be filling with Ravagers who wouldn’t mind tasting Terran for the first time. Yondu would have to keep an eye on the brat. There were already a few there, either finishing up and heading to their stations, or just arriving for something to eat before catching a few hours of rest.

“Sit here, I’ll be right back.” Yondu pushed the kid into one of the chairs at an empty table and went off to see what the cook had. It ended up being some sort of soup made from whatever had been left of the supplies. They would need to dock soon to restock. Carrying two bowls back to the table, Yondu slid one to the kid.

“Eat up, kid.” The captain could feel the stares of the others, but they should be use to their captain taking care of the kids they picked up by now, why would this one be any different just because he was the first Terran? Glaring at them, and watching as they turned back to their own bowls of soup, Yondu shook his head and looked back to the kid.

Peter didn’t try to run from the man who now had a hand on his shoulder and was leading him somewhere Peter didn’t truly want to be here but he was ready to try and run again. even if he did Peter didn’t think he would have the strength to get the man’s hand off his shoulder anyway so he just let himself be lead to some sort of eating area. Peter stayed at the table he was put at he continued to thinking about just leaving the table and sneaking off but he didn’t go anywhere Peter just watched the others in the room with him. Peter looked away when any of them made eye contact with him and only looked up when he heard the sound of the man returning to the table he was at Peter looked at the bowl that was placed in front of him. The food looked normal enough Peter grabbed the spoon and stirring the contents not sure if he should trust this food it may look like something he would find on earth but Peter didn’t eat it at first he just stared at it not moving and not looking up at the man at the other side of the table. Peter didn’t know what it was but he just didn’t trust this person and whatever was in the bowl in front of him Peter didn’t want to eat it even though he was hungry he just wanted to go home and he would rather starve then stay here.

If anything, Yondu was just glad to see that the kid had actually listened and not snuck off someplace. Then again, someone would have found him eventually, and there was no saying what might have happened then, Yondu couldn’t be everywhere at once after all. The captain took a seat across from the kid, watching as he stirred the contents of his bowl but didn’t take a bite. Not giving this much mind, Yondu took a mouthful from his own bowl. It was better than some of the stuff they had had lately, but that didn’t mean much. You just sort of got used to whatever sludge was served up. Keeping his eye on the others in the room, especially on the whispers that had started, Yondu glanced at the kid from time to time, noting his lack of eating.

“What’s wrong with ya now?” He asked. “Yer lucky I’m feedin’ ya at all.” Yondu pointed his spoon at the kid.

Hearing a tone overhead signalling the switch in shifts, Yondu frowned. He didn’t know what the hell he was supposed to do with the kid. Where was he supposed to put him? Lock him up in the room all the others had had? Maybe, but something about this one was different, or maybe it was just the captains own morals finally beginning to show. He watched as those around them got up to go to work, while others began to stream in, taking the others’ places and causing the noise level in the kitchen to increase.

“Eat now, cause ya ain’t gettin’ nothin’ else till later.” Yondu warned, just as Kraglin walked by. The man was probably the closest to the Terran as was on the ship, and also the only one Yondu would trust to be alone with the kid.

“Kraglin here’ll keep an eye on ya for now. Won’t you?” At this Kraglin had stopped, what looked like a crust of some sort of bread halfway to his mouth.

“Huh? Oh, I…” Sighing, the first mate nodded. “Yes sir.”

“Good.” Yondu said, getting up. “Play nice the both of ya.” The captain added, leaving the mess hall.

Kraglin watched Yondu leave, waiting until the doors had closed behind him before turning to the boy. He opened his mouth to say something, but decided against it and instead slid into the spot across from the boy.

“Guess I’m your babysitter now.” He grumbled. “Got a name?”
