In 2021, the world was in a state a pandemonium. American was still at war with the Middle-East,for atleast 20 years now. In 2022, Korea and Russia joined forces with the Middle-East to try and eliminate America. Africa also begun a dispute with America because America has started taking advantage of Africa's newfound oil and riches. Soon Russian scientists teamed up with scientists from Korea in an attempt to develop a new type of biological weapon to use to take out the U.S. They developed a virus that would appear to be a normal flu, but was lethal. Soon the scientists became carriers of the virus and were unaware of this because the virus had evolved to be undetected. Korea soon sent the virus over to America in missiles. These missiles were intended to land in heavily populated areas throughout America and to completely decimate the U.S. But America sent missiles and destroyed the missiles, but not the virus. The virus drifted into the ocean and infected the coast of most continents. Ship crews and swimmers were among the first to be infected with this virus. Soon after, the Korean and Russian scientists were killed by the Russian government and in their brains were where the virus began to evolve quickly. Those who attended the scientists' funerals became infected. In 2025, Korea and Russia surrendered. By this time the virus had infected a large populace and was still unknown. In the summer of 2026, there was a small outbreak, the first stage of the virus, of the virus in Korea and the surrounding areas. Witnesses said that the people suddenly died, and then came back again with basic human instincts and abilities. They could run poorly, walk, smell, eat, hear, and see. Korean military quickly controlled the chaos. The media covered it up simply by calling it "over exposure to chemicals and drugs," referencing to the nuclear exposure in the area and the growing drug market in Korea.. As the virus was making large progress in evolution in Asia, it took longer elsewhere. Then in 2027, as if the virus had planned, there was a massive death toll that ranged between 3 to 4 billion people in a week. Included were the relatives of the scientists and the soldiers who were in Korea in 2022-2025. After the initial outbreak, the people who had died "came back to life" and started to roam the streets. Three months later almost the entire population of the Earth was gone. Only a few thousand possably survived.

Please do forgive me if there are any holes are grammar mistakes. I made this a couple years back. It was on a document and I wondered if it would do well here. Well, anybody interested?

Before I turn this into an official role play, would you recommend me refining the plot a little, since it is a couple years old and my experience was lesser then than it is now?

The general premises is absolutely fine but I would recommend just adding a few specifics details to an OOC, just so players are crystal clear on where they start, etc. I can't see any glaring grammar issue, though. I like how you've described what's happening on an international scale, so players can elaborate more easily on the effects in the IC!

Where are you planning on basing the initial setting?

Well, I'm thinking a big city will be the starting place for the roleplay. That will be able to allow characters from all kinds of ethnic backgrounds and personalities to arise. For example, a city in, say, Kansas may have more of a bland population. While New York or California may have a more diverse population. You get what I'm saying. Plus a big city may offer more opportunities for multiple people to begin. So I'll say, Miami, Florida? Its a beautiful place there, and it would be easy for everybody to describe how their paradise turned to hell, allowing for more descriptive participants? I can't do Manhattan or Atlanta, the first is kind of a cliché and the second has already been claimed by The Walking Dead, which would to some, make it cheesy.

I also enjoy your premise. It appears plausible. Like MsAdler states, the international affect is wonderful for the back story. Miami, FL is a great place to start. How about a Texas city? or Seattle, WA; Boston, MA or Toronto, Ontario (CA).

On a side note, my Creative Writing Teacher in High School was named, "Ms Adler" so that is sort of creepy.

Set some limitations on types of characters. I would prefer if we didn't have a boat load of Sniper Qualified Rangers or Navy SEALs. Seems several folks like to go for those types of characters. Although they may have a better than average chance of survival, there is such a small percentage of the population who have served in either branch of a military and the special ops guys are less than 5% of the veteran population. All of the Stolen Valor asshats appear to be airborne ranger, special forces seals too.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "

So you're in? Great! I'll try to set up the OOC tomorrow. And yes, yes thank you for the advice. I was thinking Texas at first, but who knows, the story may lead to Texas, the to somewhere else, then to somewhere else. Only time will tell. Would it be appropriate for me to limit the militarized characters to actual vets? And maybe people who knows a good amount of information, since we don't want a person who doesn't know what an M16 is being a Navy Seal. S.W.A.T. and local law enforcement will be less strict but slightly reserved, and gun collectors will not be ruled out, but limited. People will have to realize that most military and law enforcement will be first on the second, and most likely to die unless they flee, and the surviving few will be normal people, lawyers, store clerks, etc And then factor in criminals, thugs, gangs, etc. Sound good?

Though I can't comment on what place would be best - having absolutely zero knowledge of America (but don't worry, google images always make a great place for research and I'll draw of your general description when crafting my own!) - that sounds pretty good.

Fret not, Gunther; I can assure you I don't teach English, considering I'm currently working towards being an engineer!

And I completely agree on the military aspect. I confess I know absolutely nothing about that area, so I'd probably stick to playing a general civilian with specialised knowledge (such as a scientist or a similar) - where I'm a little more knowledgeable.

I spent 21 years in the US Army. My knowledge of the military is not just those things COD veterans make assumptions about, but how veterans behave; how they interact with each other, how to interact with subordinates and superiors, not to mention the inter-service rivalries. Which ones show respect to one another and which ones enjoy a little friendly banter from time to time. Most COD veterans don't understand that. It is not so much about knowing the difference between an M16, M16A1, M16A2 or M4, but how they behave.

I respect that entirely - I agree & I always draw on my own experience when I create characters as I feel I can only truly accurately portray something I have fairly detailed knowledge on (especially areas as specialised as such) and doing otherwise can trivialise situations, unless it has been specifically stated and agreed. It's true that these little things - knowing social dynamics and protocols within a profession - can make or break an RP, as the best are usually the most detailed, where all the players are on the same page - best achieved by drawing on real life. This is why I will only tend to play characters with specific mathematical or scientific expertise.

And 21 years! Congratulation - I only hope I can muster as much determination and devotion towards my own career!

PS: Obviously I appreciate how this needs to applied more flexibly to less realistic, fantasy scenarios where experience is often hard to come by...

I have a small amount of knowledge in the realm of basic survival and first aid and such. I'm a Boy Scout, and I plan on going into the military later in life. I have been a boy scout for 4 years now, but I was a cub scout for years previous. All-in-all, I have 9 years of camping experience on my hands. Plus I was taught a few tricks by m father who had the knowledge of a demolitions expert. He was an good hunter and trapper, and, not to toot my own horn, But I believe I am quite the intelligent fellow for my age. I also have leadership training and such on my hands. I am only 14, almost 15. I'm still quite young but mature. I am quite a knowledgeable young man, and my mother owns an arsenal of guns. I don't know why I feel the reason to type all of this, but since I am school, I am not going to erase all of what I have said. Although much of this information I have announced about myself is unneeded and pitiful compared to you guys' experience, I feel the need to announce what I am capable of. I apologize for being a blabbermouth.

Haha!

I wouldn't worry I.Am.Legend - I wouldn't say I'm that experienced! I know my stuff when it comes to maths and the sciences but there's a reason working towards being an engineering rather than a full-time engineer just yet! Everyone has to start somewhere. And it's the writing that matters most of all!

And I'm certainly not in the same league as our Gunther, here! *Bows*

Looking forward to getting this RP off the ground!

Okay guys, I have the OOC up and running and I apologize if I did anything incorrectly. I have never created and official OOC before. I have a couple years of roleplaying on my hands, but I did it on an amateur site, where I developed amateur skills and probably some bad habits. But, I like the orderly fashion of things, I'm just not used to it. The old forums site I was in was very discombobulated. It will take some getting used to but I should be able to get used to the way things roll around here.
