Akamu life was such that he was never wont for love or affection. Ever there was an adult who was there to comfort him when he scraped his knee, or fell down and hurt himself. Being an only child, his mother fell ill to a fever when he was young and never recovered. Slowly she wasted away, until she invoked some ancient ritual and was escorted out of the city and into the mountains by his father. For a week Axton was left with a family of bears until his father returned to take him home.
They do not speak of that time, but his father bears a scar over his heart, a wound Axton can remember his father having when he returned from the trip with his mother.
Alun, Axton's father, was a talented blacksmith and hoped that his son would follow in his foot steps and work the metal as well. When Axton completed his military training he returned home and took up the hammer just like his father and learned to work the metal. It was not long before his skill and attention to detail garnered some attention. People wanted his finely made items, even the royal family was interested in him and his skills. When one of their Master Blacksmiths fell ill, they put out a call for the finest blacksmiths in the kingdom to come and take the test. Alun insisted that Axton take the test and see if he could pass.
The test was hard, grueling even, but he passed.
When asked if he would accept the mantle of Suyeta, there was only a moment of hesitation. Then he gazed up at the sun for a final time and agreed. That and the look of pride in his father's eyes were the last images that Axton ever saw again. Next thing he remembered was the pain, as his sight was taken from him and given to the great God Nur. When he awoke later that night he found that he could see, but it was different. It was as if he saw the soul now, could see the inner power and beauty that resided in all.
Most importantly the ore. It almost sang to him when he worked it and molded it. Pulsed with a life of its own that only grew in strength the more he worked with it. Each bit and piece of ore had a different heart beat and together they sang the sweetest song. Now he worked every day within the forge of the royal family, day and night. On occasion he gets a visit from his father, but mostly he spends his time in the forge with the ore that he loves.
