It was a beautiful fall day, it was the perfect weather. It was warm with a chilly breeze to even out the warm weather. During the fall morning, a young woman with icy blue eyes and black hair that reached to her shoulders with slight bangs that she could tuck back behind her ear. She wore a dark red turtle neck sweater that fit her body nicely while keeping her warm while she carried her briefcase that had a strap, allowing her to put it across her body.

The woman, Claudia, had been just leaving work for the day, her boss letting her off a little early that day because he didn't have anything else for her to do today. She would actually get to be there when her son, Lincoln, got off the bus! It was be a nice surprise for him, maybe they could even go out and get some dinner out together since she had enough money to do that now with her better job and all.

As Claudia smiled lightly to herself through these thoughts, she suddenly heard something from deeper within the forest. She froze for a moment before glancing over. She wasn't even that deep in the forest, she was barely in the forest, actually. This was the easiest way for her to go from home to work and visa versa because her car was being repaired at the moment and it would be a few days before she could use it again. Anyway, Claudia stood there like a deer in headlights for a moment before biting her lip as she began to make a decision... And, being the natural born curious cat that she was, Claudia carefully gripped onto the strap of her bag and walked deeper into the forest as quietly as she could.

With the slightly chilly autumn morning, the creature walked aimlessly around the golden forest. The leaves were a bright yellow, orange and red, which went hand in hand with the beautiful morning sky. It was quietly chirping as it walked, this creature standing at about 6' or so, given a few more inches. It was an interesting creature nonetheless, one that was never seen before. By the looks of it, it was searching for something, wandering the forest with its large strides.

Soon enough, it caught sight of some wildflowers down near a little creek. The cold water moving silently on through, with the few frogs hanging about. Their croaks the only thing that could be heard at the moment. The creature crouched down to peer at a frog for a moment, listening to its croaking noises. It then began to mimic the noise, finding interest in the creature. But when it reached out to touch the frog, the frog had simply leaped away. Slowly standing up, it took a step into the creek to try and reach the frog, only to flinch for a moment when it felt the icy cold temperature of the water and pulled its leg out fast.

Shaking its leg to clear it of the water, it decided to make a second attempt. It jumped, trying to cross over the creek after the frog, which proved to work until it lost its footing on some mud near the edge of the creek. This caused it to slip and fall back into the water, a loud splash could be heard; the cold water making it unbearable to move or get up.

Claudia followed the continuous noises, which obviously came from something rather large. Finally, she came into view of the creature when it fell into the cold creek, making a loud sound as it's body hit the water and ground. Claudia jumped and quickly ran for the beast, kinda throwing her bag off to the side. "Hoooly crap.." She bit her lip a little more and gently touched the creature's shoulder. "Okay.. I promise, I will not hurt you. I'm just helping you out." She looked down at it and gave a node before wrapping her arms safely around the creature and began to pull it out of the creak with all of her strength.

But, here's the real question... What was this thing?! It was unlike anything Claudia had ever seen before! What was it doing out here as well? It didn't seem dangerous, it didn't give her the senses of fear.

The creature flinched when it felt something touch it, the sound of a voice speaking. Next thing it knew, it could feel itself being pulled in an effort out of the creek. Lying there on its back, the creature just stared up at the autumn leaves for a moment. After a few minutes had passed, it forced itself to sit up, it slender but thin appearance as it sat there. The sound of the frogs continued, as it watched the green creatures hopping about on the other side of the creek. The creature began to mimic the noises again.

Eventually it turned its head to glance at the human. He stared at her for a moment, raising a hand to poke her forehead, not really sure what to do. Slowly, it started to get up off the ground, and resumed to watching the frogs, mimic-ing and following them around. It was a strange creature no doubt, but it seemed its interest was focused solely on the amphibians.

By the looks of it, it did not appear to be from around here, more so, what exactly was it? It had no interest in anything else, yet it was so curious. Its head was colorful, the sight of something beating within it. A heart.. in its head? If the heart was there, then the brain had to be in its chest. But on its chest, the sight of a pair of eyes were staring at the frogs, even blinking. It was so... alien.

Claudia watched the strange creature closely before jumping slightly as it touched her forehead. Of course, it didn't hurt her and it was obvious that it had no intention to harm whatsoever. She stayed on the ground as the creature stood up and followed thr frogs around, mimicking their sounds as it was fascinated by them. It was kind of amusing actually.

Claudia smiled gently as she watched him before standing up, watching the interactions that the discovery she had made had with the nature around him, looking rather curious about everything instead of confused. She wiped the dirt from the ground off of herself before carefully grabbing her bag, not wanting to scare the creature in any way.

Claudia soon looked back at it and looked at it closer. It was so unusual, a beating came from what usually was the head, which she could only assume it's heart was in there while it's eyes were on it's chest, which concluded that the brain of the creature was in it's chest.. So strange, but so intriguing! Of course, the scientist in her couldn't give up such an opportunity to study it. And, she didn't want someone to end up getting it that would only want gain from it and exploit it.

Of course, Claudia had no idea if the creature could understand her and the language she spoke since it was, obviously, not from here and she wouldn't be shocked if it wasn't even from this planet. She carefully came up to it and gently took it's arm as she looked up at it. ".. Hey, can you understand me in any fashion? Do you know what I'm saying?"

The creature turned a bit to look at the human that had ahold of its arm, staring at her for a moment before tilting its head in curiosity. It then started to mimic the human's words and voice. ".. Hey, can you understand me in any fashion? Do you know what I'm saying?" It then returned its attention to the frogs, which after a bit of persistence, managed to scoop one up in in its hand. It held it up near its eyes to look at it, listening to it croak. The creature made the same noise before setting it back down into the creek.

With that, it turned to face the human, staring at it carefully with its eyes. It then reached down to take ahold of the human's wrist for a moment. It wasn't forceful, it was gentle; as it felt the skin and looked at the fingers on the hand. It even showed its own hand in comparison, seeing how the creature only had three fingers.

Just by the way this creature would respond, it was thought to be similar to animals that could speak the human language. Any sounds or words it would hear, it could return fluently. The sound of some birds chirping in the trees above, the creature lifted its head, listening carefully before chirping in response. While it was chirping, it glanced down at the briefcase that the human had, tapping it with its finger. Then it started to mimic the tapping noise before going back to the chirping and the croaking.

Claudia looked surprised when it copied her, a smile growing on her face as it mimicked her fluently. She remained silent as it removed it's attention from her for the moment, going back to the frogs it was so fascinated by. It soon finally caught it before looking at it with it's eyes, copying it's sounds once again before putting it back down in the creek like it grew it understand it and it was done with it for now.

Claudia stood still when the creature looked back at her, staring at her before it reached for her. She held no fear of the creature, so she let it take her wrist, touch her skin, and even estimate the differences between their hands. The creatures hand was quite bigger than hers while having three fingers instead of five.

It soon paid it's attention to the birds above them that were flying by the forest, chirping along with the birds. Soon enough, it looked down at her briefcase and touched it, tapped it and mimicked that before chirping once again with the birds before cutting back to croaking, like it was reviewing everything it was learning. Claudia laughed lightly with a bright smile. "You are pretty remarkable, wow... I've never seen anything like you."

"You are pretty remarkable, wow... You are pretty remarkable.. remarkable.." it would start to mimic again. "I've never seen anything like you" From there, it started to walk about a bit, as if searching for something. It continued to mimic the human's voice and words over and over as it walked about. Soon enough, it found a few wildflowers, tilting its head a bit to look at them before reaching down to pick up a few. It looked at the flowers carefully, its eyes blinking and adjusting. Then, it brought it up to it's head, where the protrusion on its head was. Under it, a small pipe like tongue stuck out. It was similar to that of small birds. It began to drink some of the nectar from the flowers.

As it did that, it glanced over at the human for a minute before returning its attention to the flowers. After drinking enough of the nectar, it got down to plant the flowers back where they were, making sure to cover the roots. Because this creature was so tall, it was probably the only way for it to get its food. It surely was interesting no doubt. That little tongue then hid itself again and the creature was back to wandering.

It seemed to wander aimlessly, not really sure of its surroundings at this point. But it did find its way back to the human, standing by it with its chirping and mimic-ing.

Claudia laughed lightly at how it mimicked her, crossing her arms across her chest as she watched it, seeing it drink nectar from the flowers. Such an unusual creature! It had no idea where it was and what everything around it was, but it didn't panic. It just let his curiosity run wild.

Claudia gladly let the creature come close to her, just making the sounds it's learned. It was official, she had to bring the thing home with her and maybe even teach it some things if it was so curious about the world it now resided in. Besides... Link would love him. Claudia gently took it's hand. "I'm going to bring you home with me. Do you have a name? Anything I can call you?" She wasn't sure if the creature would just mimic what she just said or understand and give an answer. It was worth a shot.

The creature blinked, looking down at how this human had grabbed its hand. Its chirping faded and it was rather quiet now. It didn't say anything, didn't mimic at all. It was as if it were telling her that it had no name, like it had no purpose; that it was just... there. After a moment of silence, it started back up to chirping, croaking, tapping. It even began to mimic the sound of the water from the creek. Soon enough, it started to mimic the human once again. "Going to bring you home... Have a name? Call you?" Its vocal range was rather impressive no doubt, but would it actually understand her?

The brain was located in the chest cavity, the heart was in its head. Even with such amazing mimic abilities, surely it had to be able to understand, right? Just like octopuses and birds, they were very smart animals that could mimic. So maybe this creature was the same? It was intelligent? Of course at first glance it hardly didn't seem like it. But that was the point of observation.

The creature soon resumed to tapping at the human's briefcase, then poking at the skin on her arm. It was quite a fascinating creature, but would it really be alright to bring a creature you know nothing about into your home? Even if it was harmless right now, all animals had instincts. It was always best to be aware of those instincts and choices creatures make. Many of them were unpredictable.

Claudia waited for it to answer, soon coming to the resolution that it may not have a name. She was quiet as the creature touched her skin like a curious child as she thought all of this through. Was it really that wise to bring him with her, even though it was a perfect opportunity for a new study.. It could reveal to be violent, which she would never want Link to be the victim, but it wasn't violent to herself, who had touched and talked to it. Also, if he left it here, it would eventually get out there to the world and someone bad could get to him.

Claudia was silent for a rather long time before taking a breath. "... We'll come up with your name when we get home. We must go quickly if we want to make it home without you getting noticed, so we must be quiet." She put a finger over her lips like she would do to a child to symbolize silence.

Soon enough, she squeezed it's hand and guided it to her way home, taking the longer, but much more hidden way home, so Claudia could sneak him in her currently empty garage where he could be safe and well taken care of by herself. Actually, now that she thought of it, what did the animal eat? Apparently nectar was one, but she didn't know if that was something he could live off of or not!

The creature was confused for a moment when it watched the human trying to tell it to be quiet. It's little chirping soon quieted down for a moment as it was led about. Its eyes took notice of this human, analyzing her carefully as they walked. Why would it have to be quiet? It was unusual for it to be quiet, but it seemed this human was leading it somewhere. When it saw that it was now being led through town, more so the darker, quieter areas. It would look around at all the buildings around it, listening to all the noises going on; new sounds for it to mimic.

It began to make little clicking noises, though it was quiet enough for just the two to hear at the moment. Before they knew it, they were led into a garage. The echo that went on within the garage when it clicked made it curious. It would mimic the echoes, looking around its newfound environment before looking back at the human.

"We'll come up with your name when we get home." it would mimic in the human's voice. "Name... home.."

Then, for a brief second, it seemed to have said something else, "No... name.." before returning to the echoes and chirping.

Claudia closed the garage door and turned on the light, it actually being a pretty nice size for the creature. Of course, she would probably bring him inside when her car got back to her and when the creature was ready for it. She knew it would be hard to hide it from Link, so she would have to end up showing Link. There was really no way of avoiding it... She would think about that later, for now, she needed to situate things!

Claudia looked over at the creature, who was curiously looking around and mimicking his own echos before looking back at her, mimicking what she said earlier like it was reminding her. It made her kinda sad for the poor creature that it didn't have a name for itself, nothing it identified itself by. She bit her lip gently. "Yes, we have to come up with a name for you... Eve? No no, that doesn't fit.." She spit out a few more names before finally thinking of one that hit her like a train. "Null.. What about Null?"

The creature was silent when it heard Claudia thinking of names, it was quietly listening for a moment. "Null" it would say, then it started to repeat the name over and over. "Name... Null.. Null" it started to make clicking noises as it walked about the garage, looking at the things that were in there. There were lots of boxes stacked in a corner, which of course got Null curious. It moved over to one, poking it with a finger before opening it up out of curiosity. There were a bunch of stuffed animals packed away in it.

Null would pick up one of the stuffed animals, seeing it was a cat, and would mimic the sound of a cat meowing. It would do this with each animal it pulled from the box until it found one that it didn't know the noise to. Slowly pulling out a stuffed animal from the bottom of the box after putting the rest back, it found that this stuffed animal was a black bear. It had dark black fur with brown on its muzzle and under its feet.

It quietly chirped as it looked at the animal, keeping it in its hands longer than the rest before looking over at Claudia. It showed her the stuffed bear before sitting down on the cold concrete floor, gently petting and looking over the toy.

Claudia smiled as Null copied the name, seeming to enjoy it quite a bit since it was the only name it had repeated the whole time she said names. She just watched the creature as it curiously poked around the garage, not having anything in there that the creature couldn't see or touch. She would stop it if it did find something fragile though, just to be careful.

Soon enough, the creature had began to go through all of Link's old toys that he had in his room when he was little, which he didn't want in his room now because he tried to play it off that he was some 'big boy' or whatever, but he still kept his favorite toy in his room with it and slept with it at night. It was like his night light, he couldn't sleep if he didn't have that stuffed animal with him, which was a small stuffed fox.

Claudia watched the creature just go through all of the stuffed animals, reciting the sounds of each of them, until it got to the stuffed black bear. She smiled wider when the creature directed the bear at her, like a child showing a mother it's toy, before it sat down on the concrete ground and pet the stuffed animal. Claudia sat down in front of the creature with a smile and looked at the stuffed animal before looking at Null. ".. You can have him. You'll give him love."

Null glanced at Claudia for a moment, listening to her words. "Can.. have.. Can have.. Give... Love.. Love... Love?" he would speak, not seeming to understand the word 'love' at all. Looking down at the bear, it continued to pet it, then setting it down on the floor to see that such a thing did not move, despite it resembling an animal. Was it not alive? Null poked the stuffed toy's forehead, watching it fall forward on its nose. It chirped and clicked a bit before picking the toy up again, adjusting it so it was sitting.

It was quite possible that Null was the only one of its kind, if at all. It seemed so curious, eager to learn new things; discovering things it had no clue about. At the same time, it was in the protection of this human, one he found different than the ones up near the mountains that destroyed its home.

Soon enough, there was a voice speaking in the house, it sounded like a young kid. Null looked alert for a moment, trying to figure out the noise, its clicks and chirps quieting down a bit as it listened carefully. It could hear footsteps, which it mimic-ed, the shuffling of things before the voice spoke again. Null stood up from the floor, holding the bear in one of its hands as it followed the sound of the noise. It led to Null standing in front of the garage door that led into the home.

Claudia nodded when it began to questioningly say the word love, smiling. "Yes, love is very important. Helps people feel happy." She smiled at Null as she watched it play with it's new friend, the stuffed bear that it seemed to really enjoy.

Suddenly, she heard the front door open then close, knowing that that was Link. She quickly stood up when Null went over to the door, following the nose. She headed over to it and grabbed it's hand, putting a finger over her lips like before when it looked at her. "You need to be quiet for a few minutes and stay here, alright?.. I'll be right back." She smiled at him before going into the house and closing the door behind her.

Link, Claudia's ten year old son that looked a bit like her with dark hair, but had emerald green eyes like his father had, quickly came up to his mother and hugged her. "Mom, you're home!" She laughed and hugged him back, kissing his head. "Yep, I got to get off work early today, so I could finally be here when you get home! How was school?" Link looked up at his mother with sparkling eyes and smile. "It was good, I ended up doing well on my reading test!" Claudia smiled, hugging her little boy tighter. "That's great, I'm proud of you!"

After a bit, she finally decided that it may be safe to tell Link. "Okay, Link.. I want to show you something, but you can only see it if you promise to keep it to yourself and not tell anyone." Link looked confused, but nodded. ".. I promise, Mom." Claudia smiled and kissed his forehead. "Good! Follow me!" She took Link's hand and peeked her head into the garage. "Null, I brought you someone to meet." She carefully opened the door to the garage, Link meeting eyes with Null.

Null stayed quiet like Claudia had instructed him to, to which he stood to the side, playing around with the stuffed bear a bit. He could hear small conversation inside, the sound of Claudia, and then the sound of a small child. A child? He was curious more now that there was something new for it to look at. When it saw Claudia come into the garage with the child, Null remained still, looking down at the little human.

It got down to sit on the floor, looking at the child before holding out the stuffed bear. "Love.. make.. happy.." it spoke. "Does.. look happy?" The creature handed the stuffed toy to the child, and continued its little chirping for a bit, taking the time to look at the child closely now. He seemed to resemble Claudia, to which he was a bit confused by it. Since Null didn't understand the meaning of family, it was new to it.

Null forced itself up from the floor before going over to the box of stuffed animals, taking out some and began to mimic their respective noises. It was quite a creature, rather interesting to think that it could be the only one in existence, that its true origin is unknown! Then, it looked over at the boy and the stuffed bear, pointing at it: "What make noise?" it asked, curious.

Link was shocked and silent for a moment when he saw it, confused by it. He had never seen something like it before! Not even in books or movies... He hesitated when Null handed out the bear to him before gently taking him and nodding, telling it that the bear looked happy from it's love.

Claudia glanced over to Link, to fully see his reaction. Link was rather shocked, but found him cool when he just could entirely copy all the animals he saw in the box. When Null asked what sound Link made, he giggled lightly as he held the bear, waving at him. "I'm Lincoln... People call me Link though! What's your name?" Claudia smiled at the positive response Link gave to it, seeing that he seemed to enjoy Null's presence.

Null blinked for a bit, slowly repeating the child's name to remember it. "Lin..coln.. Lin..coln. Lincoln.." it would say. It watched Link wave his hand at it, to which Null copied him. "Name.. Null" it spoke. Its chittering and chirping continued once again, finding this child interesting. It stretched out a hand to poke Link's hand for a moment. Then it pulled away, quietly sitting there on the floor and watching the child.

It glanced at the bear, pointing at it and asked once more, "What noise make?" wanting to know what noise a bear made. Clearly this creature was intelligent if taught right. It could learn so much from Claudia and Link if they took the time to raise it. It seemed to be a pretty docile creature too. Nothing to really worry about so far. It was kinda like a second child, almost.
