The water was clear and fresh, much better than anything that had ever come out of Susannah's container, Xpiayoc could tell. The smile on the woman from Ireland's face showed it.

Xpiayoc was pleased. Even with someone who traveled, and came with all sorts of devices and strange knowledge, she could have something better.

Shortly after Xpiayoc had laid down her clothes, Susannah emerged from the cenote, still fully dressed. Xpiayoc prepared to speak, assuring the woman that she would be safe. Before she could, Susannah began to take off her clothes, although slightly more hesitantly than the brazen Xpiayoc. Perhaps Susannah was just shy. Or, Xpiayoc thought suddenly, becoming naked wasn't something they did often in Ireland. Xpiayoc felt slightly intrusive of her guest, frowning as she turned her focus to take off her shoes and lay them in the same place as her garments.

When Xpiayoc turned back, Susannah was undressed, except for the unusual garments around the private areas. It was unusual, and made from a beautiful colour.

"What are those?" Xpiayoc pointed, apparently forgetting her regret from earlier.

Not one to feel comfortable naked, at least in the open, Xpiayoc began descending back into the cenote before Susannah could respond. She saw that Hun Hunahpu was still swimming happily in the water. Xpiayoc grinned, stopping and letting her toes grip the edge of the stone stairs she was on. Why not follow the dog's example, and go for a swim? She stepped back, taking a deep breath before running forward with a loud whoop. She slammed into the water at full force, creating a splash even larger than the one created by her wily pet.

Unfortunately, bubbles entered Xpiayoc's nose, and she ascended from the water, spluttering and coughing. Hun Hunahpu swam to her, concerned, but Xpiayoc pushed his snout out of her face.

"I'm fine, I'm fine," she burbled, lungs finally relaxing. Despite the burning pain, it had been fun. While they swum in the cenotes plenty, jumping in in that manner was generally frowned upon.

Floating in the water, her arms swirling around her, Xpiayoc looked up to the crack of light that denoted the entrance. "Susannah?" She called, swimming to the edge of the pool and raising her head and elbows on the last stone.

The woman's name still sounded so foreign on Xpiayoc's tongue.

Susannah was incredibly pleased with the fresh water now in her bottle. Not just because it was amazing, but because it was a sign that Xpiayoc trusted her, and that made Susannah really happy. Maybe they were becoming actual friends? That would definitely be awesome. That is, until the time came when she needed to leave.

Focusing on the present for now, Susannah took off her clothes, minus undergarments. She needed to get them to dry, after all. Once her clothes were out, Susannah decided that it was enough. Her underwear wasn’t wet, so she could keep it and wait for the rest to dry.

When Xpiayoc asked her what her underwear was, Susannah sighed. She should have seen the question coming, of course. “This is what we wear under our clothes where I come from”, she explained calmly. “It’s a cultural expectation, I would say. This is called a brassiere, and these are called underpants”, Susannah continued, pointing at the respective pieces.

After answering Xpiayoc’s question, Susannah followed her back in, walking more careful now that she was barefoot. She was a few steps behind Xpiayoc when the other girl jumped into the water. Taking steps back, she waited for the water splash to subside. Once she heard her new friend call her name, Susannah stepped back down and went closer to where Xpiayoc was. “Here”, she replied with a smile, wondering whether or not she should - or even could - go in the water as well.

“Is everything all right?”, the woman completed, seeing the dog's expression as he looked at Xpiayoc.

Susannah's undergarments were interesting, but quickly lost Xpiayoc's interest. She was a flighty girl, always looking for entertainment and adventure. Susannah wasn't just entertainment, like the ball games they played, or the rituals, or even hunting; she was a real, breathing person, with incredible stories of her own adventure, surely. More than Xpiayoc had ever hoped.

Xpiayoc repeated the mantra she had shared with her dog as she watched Susannah reenter the cenote. "I'm fine," she smiled, leaning back from the end of the pool and letting her body form a floating starfish. Of course, Xiayoc had never seen a starfish in her life, let alone the sea. She had heard of it, the great, beautiful expanse of undrinkable water, but she had never had the chance to go. It was a journey of many days, and she had never been far from home. Her mother wouldn't allow it, her father forbid it, and the city's residents would feel a loss without her. Or would they? Xpiayoc was out right now, not with express permission, and she felt the calm of the water, the peace of the trees. The world was in order, it seemed.

Xpiayoc rolled over into the water, taking a shallow dive. Her already wild hair swirled around her as she opened her eyes and stared down to the bottom of the chultun. The water was expectedly clear, allowing Xpiayoc to see straight to the bottom. It was slightly rocky, matching the ceiling in much a way, but with the occasional scrubby-looking plant life, and a few unidentifiable skulls from rituals. Sometimes Xpiayoc would swim to the bottom to retrieve one and add it to her collection of oddities.

Swimming back up, Xpiayoc saw that Susannah was still standing by the edge, seemingly not intending to come in the water. "Come, come," she said in a slightly impatient manner, gesturing her arms in a forward motion. She paused for a moment, thinking. "Do you not swim in Ireland?" she asked, blinking water from her eyes and pushing dark strings of hair from her face. She hadn't considered the possibility that Susannah didn't have access to large pools of water, but thinking about it, it could make sense as to why her water tasted poorly.

Well, if she didn't swim, Xpiayoc would teach her.
