For many years, King Lars and his queen, Ember, have ruled the kingdom of Eirini. They were good rulers, fair to their people and thus beloved by them. They had two children. James, their firstborn, was heir to the throne. Their younger child was a daughter named Cassandra. King Lars had been growing senile in his old age and his queen had become quite ill. The doctors feared that Queen Ember would not live much longer. It was decided that it was time for James to take the throne.

James, betrothed for a year and half, decided that if he was to be crowned king, then he would also marry his fiancee at the same time. That way his mother would be alive to see him marry. Although he had known since he was old enough to walk he would someday be crowned king, he was not truly ready for the day his father would step down from the throne. He had hoped to be an old man himself when he finally took his birthright.

Almost everyone in Eirini was excited for the royal wedding and the coronation that would soon follow. King Lars was loved by the people but so were his children. He and Queen Ember had raised kind children. James and Cassandra did not look down on their people. They had been encouraged to interact with their people. Unlike most people of royalty, James and Cassandra did not have arranged marriages. King Lars and Queen Ember had married for love and wanted their children to do the same. James had picked his own bride and someday, Cassandra would pick her own husband.

There was one person in Eirini not excited for the wedding and that was Prince Russell, the younger brother of King Lars. While he was a lord of a large territory in Eirini, he always wanted to be the king. It angered him that James would soon be crowned king. He found others that supported him that he would be the best choice for the next king. A time of change was coming and if King Lars had to step down as king, Russell wanted himself to become the next king. He planned to do whatever he needed to do to make sure James never had the crown on his head.

-------------------

The wedding of James was going to take place in the grand cathedral of Eirini's capital city. People from all over the kingdom and nearby lands were invited to his wedding.

Arthur walked down the large staircase. The manor house was a beautiful home. It was filled with artwork and treasures befitting the house of a baron. One of these days, Arthur would be granted his father’s title and this would be his. This was not something that struck him often, but it did pass through his mind today. Maybe it was because he was thinking about the way Prince James was taking the rule from his father the king? He shrugged despite himself. That had to be it.

Arthur was almost to the bottom of the stairs when the front door opened. The footman for the coach appeared through the large oak doors. It seems Arthur had planned his timing perfectly. The footman bowed slightly and held the door open for him. Arthur whistled a cheerful tune as he descended the front steps. Stopping as he reached the cobblestone street, he smiled and took in a deep breath.

The largely stone town around him was a rather small affair. It was built around the Harrington manor almost a century ago now. It wasn’t a major military city nor was it a major trade hub. It was just an average town with average achievements. That being said, it wasn't like Arthur was indifferent to it. He was rather proud of his family’s little town. It had a charming feel and there was no strife to be had.

The friendly, quiet townsfolk went about their business. Several of them smiled and waved at him as they passed. It was almost time for the shops to be opening. The day will be sweet and simple. He sighed, pleased. Arthur climbed up into the coach. He leaned back and got settled as the footmen climbed onto the back.

It was seven hours to the capital from Caham. He would arrive in the evening. The ceremony would be tomorrow, though he was unsure of exactly when. Ah, it would sort itself out when he got there. Father and Mother were already there. They had gone there a few days earlier to handle a bit of court business before the celebration. Surely they would know better what was going on. He closed his eyes as the coach started moving.

There would be a huge reception after the wedding, but King Lars and his queen were also throwing a smaller party for the nobles the night before at their palace. They knew many people would be traveling great distances to attend their son's wedding and his coronation and the least the couple thought they could do was feed them the night before. It wasn't as a grand of an event as the wedding reception would be but there was good food and lots of wine to go around.

Cassandra, the younger of the king and queen's two children, was so excited. Tomorrow was her brother's wedding day and she was so excited for him. Unlike most people in their social standing, their parents had not chosen James' bride. He was marrying a woman of his own choosing and Cassandra was sure that he and Genevieve would be very happy together. She hoped they had many children. Unlike her uncle, she was okay with never becoming the Queen of Eirini. She was content of where she stood in the world.

Cassandra gave her brother a big hug. Although she was sad her father was stepping down, she was also excited for the big changes that meant for her brother. Her brown eyes, that matched his, sparkled with excitement.

"I am so happy for you, James. I know you and Genevieve will have a great marriage. You are perfect for each other."

James grinned at his sister. There was no doubt they were siblings. They had the same brown eyes and black hair. James was short, while Cassandra's hair was long with curls.

"Thank you, Cassandra. I am excited for the wedding but..."

He paused and looked down. Cassandra touched his shoulder.

"You do not want to take Father's throne."

James nodded his head. It had been their father's decision that once James was married, that then James would be crowned king. Queen Ember was ill and King Lars' mind was not what it once was. He could not remember things as well as he used to and needed to be reminded of things. It was a better for a younger man to take the throne. James had no doubt that he was ready to become Genevieve's husband, but he wasn't sure he was ready to become the king.

"I am not sure I am ready."

"Father thinks you are. He would not tell you he was going to abdicate the throne if he did not think you were ready. You are a good man, you will be a good king."

"I hope so."

James replied, not feeling as confident as his younger sister. Cassandra smiled.

"I know so."

Even if James did not believe in himself, Cassandra did. As did their parents, she was sure her brother would do fine. She would be there to help him. Prince Russell watched his niece and nephew talking as he drank from his wine goblet. He sneered as he thought that James would not have to worry about what kind of king he would be. If things went as planned tomorrow, James wouldn't see the sun rise with him as king over Eirini.

Arthur was jostled awake as the carriage cam to a stop. He sat up quickly. He had not meant to fall asleep. He didn't even know how long he was out. He glanced out the window of the carriage. Oh, ****! He had forgotten about the "get-together" tonight. He fussed with his hair and adjusted his clothes. He just hoped it wouldn't be obviously that he's fallen asleep in the carriage. He became aware that his footmen was standing there, waiting to let him out. The guards on the stops and the greeter near the door were waiting for him. he cleared his throat.

Arthur stepped out of the carriage as confidently and coolly as he could. He tried to make it seem like he didn't care how long it took him to get out and go inside. Maybe they would think the pause was intentional. He made his way up the marble steps to the palace. He was a little curious who was going to be here tonight. He was nervous. He was not the face of the family, so he was less familiar with the local noble families than his parents. He spend most of his time in Caham. When he did see them, it was on the battlefield. However, they were in armor and their faces were covered. He knew them by their coats of arms. He would never have the luck of the families wearing them at royal functions. The best he could do was learning names and memorizing little things about them.

Arthur was not disappointed as he entered the hall were the party was. The palace staff had certainly delivered on the decorating and planning. The hall looked wonderful. It spoke to the upcoming grand celebration while also remaining simple for this "intimate" party. He stopped and waited for the herald to announce the nobles in front of him as he entered. Count and Countess Gerald Edinhower. Arthur mouthed the name to himself a few times. He looked the man up and down. Okay, gold and gray outfit and obvious blonde toupee. Glances to the wife, he noted her overly-tight red dress and gaudy diamond-ruby headdress. They continued down the steps.

The herald focused his attention on Arthur. "How may we address you, my lord?"

"Lord Arthur Harrington." Arthur said professionally.

He opened the cover on his signet ring, revealing the stamp seal of his family crest. He pressed it into the ink box the herald provided. He then pressed the family seal onto the parchment, next to where the herald jotted down his name. The herald smiled and turned to face the assembly. He stamped his golden staff.

"Presenting Lord Arthur Harrington!" The herald proclaimed in a booming, authoritative voice.

The nearby nobles casually turned to glance in his direction while the servants bowed. Arthur nodded. He started descending the stairs into the crowd. A serving boy paused to offer him a glass of champagne. He made an approving face and took one. He slowly made his way through the crowd. If he could only find his parents, he would be okay. Mother would be sure that he meets the appropriate people to meet. He smiled as he remembered a joke his father told him. We men never know what protocol is. Its the women that maintain that. We just listen to them, but never tell them that.

Ah! There they are! His mother's face lit up as she recognized her son coming through the crowd. She waved him over. They appeared to be in a conversation with a very important looking man. Father looked very serious and actually a little nervous. Arthur moved a little quicker through the crowd.

((OOC: By the way, as an amusing side note, this is not the character I imagined originally. His personality is already going in a different direction. The good news is that I like this one better.))

Arthur was a late arrival to the party. It had already been in full swing, with dancing and mingling, when he arrived. Of course, he wasn't the only late arrival. Some rulers would have been upset, but not the king and queen of Eirini. King Lars and his wife just wanted people to have fun before James' big day. They weren't overly concerned if a few people were late.

King Lars was talking with Arthur's parents when he arrived. He raised his hand and waved to Arthur.

"Ah, there is your boy now."

King Lars was a grand host. He always made an effort to talk to each of his guests. Before Queen Ember had became ill, she had been the same way. She was trying to make an effort tonight but it was hard. She constantly needed to take breaks and sit. Her husband told her not to worry, he and the kids would handle the guests.

Cassandra helped her mother take a seat and James' fiancee said she'd sit with the queen. James offered to get her a drink.

"I'll be right back, Mother."

Cassandra told Ember and thought the party was getting too much for her mother. She went find her father. He needed to know that the queen was feeling ill and should be resting. Queen Ember could be a stubborn woman, she might need the convincing from her husband to leave the party. She would hate to miss the fun but her health was important. Especially since tomorrow would be an even bigger day. Cassandra found King Lars talking with Baron Harrington and his family. She wanted to get her father's attention but it would have been terrible rude to interrupt. So, instead, she offered a pleasant greeting.

It took Arthur far longer to recognize the king than it should have. He was horrified at himself. How on earth could he not know the king when he saw him? Arthur's face was tense. That was worse than being a traitor, right? Maybe he needed to show more interest in politics after all. He glanced around at all the faces of the great men and woman that were around him. It was strange. He was technically one of them but he suddenly felt very alone. He'd paid so little though to the political, economic, and financial situation in the world around him that he may as well not even call himself a noble.

"Good evening, Your Majesty." He smiled and raised his glass. "Your people have out-done themselves, sire. I'm happy to be here."

Arthur looked at the King. He knew that his loyalties lied with the King and his family. They were the rightful rulers of the land. Not only that, but they were wonderful people from what he could tell. Each of them were kind, fair, just and a defender of their people. The king was a truly great man, worthy of his deepest respect and devotion. He noticed the Queen resting at a table. There was no one on earth that could convince him the she was not only a regal force alongside her husband but a diligent believer in instilling values in her children. He watched James leave his mother's side. The prince was fine man. He trusted his judgement the same as he trusted the king's. He rested his eyes on the beautiful future queen still sitting with the Queen. He knew nothing of her family or her origins. He was not even sure if she was from foreign royalty or local nobility. However, if Prince James fell in love with the young woman, she had to be as fantastic of a person as he was.

Arthur smiled as Cassandra approached. He knew the least about the princess. She was not as much of a force in circles as her parents or the heir was. It wasn't that he doubted her. She was a daughter of Queen Ember. He'd never bet against her, he knew that much. He appraised her as she approached, trying to figure her out a little more. This went on as she walked over. Suddenly, he realized that he had been staring at for for almost a minute! Oh, God! I'm ogling the Princess! He turned bright red and quickly looked away. He downed his champagne like a shot, a most ignoble gesture his mother would point out. Did she see?! Oh, worse! Did the king?! A cold fear filled his stomach. Now I am a traitor! He suddenly had images of the king lying into a rage and ordering him beheaded on the spot. He looked up when he heard his mother speak. He jumped when he looked up and Cassandra was standing there.

"Evening, Princess!" he belted out far too loudly.

King Lars didn't realize that Arthur had no idea who he was for a moment. Even if he had, he wouldn't been that upset. He didn't go around beheading people for such a silly thing. Especially when the boy rarely accompanied his parents to the capital. The wedding of the heir and crowning of a new king were things to be celebrated and bring everyone together. Not that Lars had any idea that his younger brother was plotting to ruin it all.

"We are happy to have you here and thank you. Tomorrow is a special day for James and Margaret. She is the daughter of the Duke of Willmyer."

King Lars offered up for conversation, although had no one asked. He was proud of both his children and that Margaret was an excellent choice in a wife and soon to be queen for Eirini. She made his son happy and that's all the king and queen ever wanted for either of their children. Instead of making a servant get a drink for Queen Ember, James did it himself.

Since Cassandra would not become Queen, unless something terrible happened to James and Margaret, which she hoped never would, Cassandra didn't have as many royal duties as her older brother. Not that she minded, she was perfectly happy with how her life was. She helped with the poor and the children. Making sure the throne knew the needs of the people. Cassandra's concern was more on her mother, then realizing that Arthur had been staring at her. When his face turned red, she raised an eyebrow at him. She wasn't sure why he had had such a reaction.

"Good evening."

Cassandra replied. The king had been oblivious to Arthur's staring and proudly told Arthur and his parents.

"Now, just because tomorrow is James' big day, that does not mean we are not proud of Cassandra too. She set up a clothing and toy drive for the children in time for winter in the capital."

Cassandra blushed a little, she didn't like to brag about herself but she knew her father was proud of her.

"It was a big success. I hope to expand it to other cities soon."

Cassandra added. She did enjoy helping the people and James already said he would support an charity work she did after he was crowned king.

Arthur took another glass of champagne as the server passed. He nodded to himself as he listened to the king. Margaret, Margaret, Margaret. He repeated to commit it to memory. However, he still had no idea who her family was politically. He thought Willmyer was local but he wasn't entirely sure. He definitely had to incorporate his day with regular studies into politics, finances and economics. Perhaps Father would agree to introduce him and help to further his interest.

Admittedly, Arthur felt a touch of shame. His younger brother Walter was already much further along in this area than he was. And he wasn't even a grown man yet! Walter was at home tonight. At his age, his studies and training were more important than a party. Not that Arthur thought the party was ridiculous or anything. He was sure that the king and queen had great reasons for throwing it. Walt had spouted a comment about it being a clever propaganda move. Whatever that meant. He didn't even know if that was true. The thirteen-year-old could have just been mouthing off to look smart. It had worked with Arthur, not that he'd ever tell his kid brother that.

Arthur smiled as he listened to the king's bragging. He had been right about the princess it seemed. He had heard off-handed rumors about her efforts to gather winter supplies. It went along with the image he'd already had of her. It did his heart good. As a man of war, he had special spot in his heart for those who took care of those that needed it. He was not proud of the fact that left widows and orphans in his wake. Men were left ruined and sometimes without the physically ability to provide for their families. It destroyed food supply lines and bankrupted economies.

Arthur's thoughts left him grim-faced. He downed his glass of champagne far too quickly again. His mother caught him this time. She narrowed her eyes at him briefly and elbowed his as discreetly as possible. She sipped her alcohol in demonstration. She nodded pointedly, stiff with authority. Arthur blushed and smiled weakly. Her maternal job done, she smiled widely again and redirected her attention back towards her husband and the king. It seemed that the "adults" were busy talking about the two younger persons rather than to them. Arthur replaced his empty glass when another server came around. He glanced at the princess and hesitated. He was unsure if he should take a glass for her. Would it be gentlemanly or assumptive? He decided to risk it.

"Glass of champagne, Your Highness?" He smiled warmly and offered it to her. "I'd love to hear more about your charity work honestly."

(OOC: By the way, as an amusing side note, this is not the character I'd imagined originally. His personality is turning out to be different. Fortunately, I like this version better.)

Cassandra blushed a little as her father bragged about her. That was King Lars for you. He was proud of both his children. Some monarchs might have only focused on their heir, but not her parents. They loved both her and James equally and was equally proud of them both. Both she and James loved their parents very much and the monarchs already adored Margaret. Once James had made his intentions clear to them, they had welcomed their soon to be daughter-in-law instantly into their family. Queen Ember told people she now had a son and two daughters. She someday hoped to have another son but Cassandra was busy with her charity work, so courting wasn't on her mind. Thankfully her parents didn't nag her too much about it. Although Cassandra assumed she wasn't hearing hints about it right now because of James' wedding and coronation. That had been the focus for the last few months. Once things settled down, then Queen Ember might bring it up again.

Cassandra smiled and took the glass that Arthur offered.

"Yes, thank you."

She replied and looked at her father.

"Father, Mother isn't feeling well. I think she would like to say good night to you before she heads to bed."

King Lars nodded his head.

"Yes, of course. It was good chatting with you all and it was nice to see you again, young Arthur."

King Lars told Arthur and his parents before he went to attend to the queen. The king and queen had a good marriage. They had married for love and their love for each other showed. The king would drop anything he was doing if his wife needed him. When Arthur said he wanted to learn about her charity work, the princess replied.

"What would you like to know?"

Cassandra was very passionate about it but she knew others didn't share her passion. Many times, especially in these social functions, people asked her about her work but only for making polite conversation. When she tried to talk about it, their eyes would glaze over in boredom. Cassandra quickly learned to gauge how interested someone was in her charity work before she went into too much detail about it.

Arthur was as equally embarrassed over his parents' gushing praise. He was blushing and smiling nervously. It seemed strange to have praises going over both himself, and the princess. They both came from such different duties. He was a commander and she a saint. It would make sense to tale about him in comparison to the prince. Nonetheless, the strange opposition didn't seem to affect the king or his parents. It made Arthur feel a bit better when his parents moved on to praising Walter. He felt less embarrassed and more relaxed. The conversation seemed to wrap up at Cassandra's mention of the queen.

Arthur smiled and bowed slightly as the king left. He had no idea if that was polite or not, but it seemed proper. His mother smiled and kissed him on the cheek. She had her elbow linked with Father's. Father patted him on the back strongly. Arthur smiled.

"We're going to sit with the Caldwells. Perhaps you'll join us for dinner later?" Mother curtsied, "Your Highness, excuse us."

"Take your time, son. Have a nice chat." Father winked before smiling at Cassandra and nodding respectfully. "Evening, Your Highness."

Arthur's face froze in place, a fake smile on his face. Father! That was not as subtle as you thought it was. The baroness even shot her husband a quick, fierce glance. The baron and his wife left the two standing there by themselves.

Arthur cleared his throat. "Sorry about that. However, as I was saying, your charity work has always been inspiring to me. I is so wonderful to see some one doing something about the pain in the world. I admit to be glad to see someone hard at work counter-attacking my miserable profession's outcomes. I have thought many times to donating. However, the irony, if not hypocrisy, to that has not escaped me. It has stilled my hand. You don't want a butcher's blood-money."

Arthur did not hide his heartfelt sorrow and lamentations.

King Lars had enjoyed talking with people. He hoped that all parents were as proud of their children as he was of his. He listened happily to the Baron and Baroness tell him about Arthur and his younger brother. He told the couple that he would like to meet Walter someday. Although soon James would be king, Lars did not plan to just fade into retirement. He would still be parties and meeting people, it was just his son would be in charge of running the kingdom instead of him.

"Have a good evening, Lord and Lady Harrington."

Cassandra told the couple with a smile when they parted ways to chat with their friends. She caught the wink the Baron gave his son and shook her head slightly with a smile. It amused her, especially the look his wife shot him. If her father's mind was more sound, he would probably have done the same thing. She gave Arthur a smile and replied.

"Well, thank you. I try to help my people. Although, I don't blame you or your comrades. We preserve peace by being prepared for war. Without people like you, my lord, protecting Eirini, then who knows what would happen."

Cassandra might not like what happened in war but she understood it was necessary. Eirini needed a military to protect it from invaders. Of course, she didn't realize that one of the biggest threats to her home was the man she called her uncle. Russell was good at keeping up appearances and keeping his true thoughts only to himself and those who agreed with his cause.

Cassandra reached over and touched Arthur's arm briefly.

"Do not look down on yourself. Actually one of my biggest volunteers is a retired general, General Cole. He told me helping me gather things for the children and talking with them, it made it easier for him to sleep at night."

General Cole had been the head of Eirini's military for many years before old age had finally caught up to him. He still advised the younger soldiers when asked, but he went into retirement. The children seemed to love his war stories, although he told the princess he wasn't trying to glamorize war to them. He didn't want to scare them but tried to keep it realistic. He was a war hero and highly respected, Cassandra was sure his presence had helped make the last charity drive a success.

Arthur nodded. He had a great respect for General Cole. He studied him as he'd learned military strategy and history. He was an outstanding man. To think that age would affect a man like him was actually rather humbling. He frowned though. Doubts and regrets were not something that troubled General Cole. It made sense though. He took a sip of his drink while one of his childhood heroes was knocked of his God-like pedestal. It was healthier this way, though. He knew that.

Arthur had no idea as to Russell's treachery either. Well, he knew even less our the royal uncle than even the princess. The sad thing is that Russell's betrayal will hit Arthur hard as his over-the-top admiration for the king and his family extended to the royal brother. Why shouldn't it? The late king was as fantastic of a man as King Lars himself. He would never think the royal line capable of deceit and traitorous behavior.

Arthur smiled. It was cute how she was trying to reassure him. He appreciated it. He had been a little harsh on himself, he supposed. This was no time or place for a gloomy, pity party. This was a time for celebrating. The princess was proving herself to Arthur as the conversation went on. He started to wish that the night would go on forever. She was so easy to talk to. That was even more surprising considering she was the princess. She wasn't like most noble girls though. It was refreshing. He was unsure what to do when she touched his arm, however. It sparked something warm and soft in his heart. He gulped. Yeah, this is not good.

General Cole was a highly respected man in Eirini. A great defender for the kingdom and a mentor to younger soldiers. Cassandra had been a little surprised, at first, when he admitted to her how much guilt he felt from time to time about what he had done. Everything had been to protect their home, but sometimes that didn't help him feel better. Working with General Cole had taught Cassandra that war wasn't something to glamorize. The soldiers should be respected but war wasn't fun and games.

"General Cole and I are planning to start a group to help our wounded soldiers, as well."

Cassandra had become good friends with the general. When he told the demons soldiers faced, it broke her heart. The soldiers of Eirini were heroes and should be treated as such. Yet, some were prematurely injured and others, while physically okay, mentally had demons.

"...We are going to start work on it after my brother's wedding and coronation."

James had two very big events coming up and, being that good sister that she was, Cassandra was helping as much as she could with them. Once everything had settled down, then she'd get back into her charity work. Of course, she had no idea that her uncle had plans to ruin it all. It never crossed her mind that Russell wasn't happy with his station in life. She was the spare heir and perfectly happy in her life. She didn't care at all that she'd never be queen. He never said much about his own viewpoints of his life. Cassandra just assumed Russell felt the same way she did, even if he didn't use his position in life to better the lives of their people.

Cassandra sipped her drink and smiled back at Arthur. He was a nice guy and intelligent. She liked having intelligent conversations with people. Someone people found it hard to talk to her because she was a princess. It drove her nuts when people acted like that. Just because she was the daughter of the king and queen, it didn't mean she was special or better then anyone else. Everyone's blood was red.

"Maybe you would like to help us out sometime?"

Cassandra suggested to Arthur. She wouldn't mind getting to know him better, but quickly added.

"Of course, it is okay with you are too busy. It is just a suggestion."

Arthur smiled. The idea of doing some good for a change was almost intoxicating. He would be glad to be there for his men. It was true that some of these boys hard a lot to deal with after their life as soldiers. Honestly, some were scarred by their first battle. The sad thing is its just like building scar tissue after that. Arthur frowned. Some old warrior hearts must be made of solid gristle. He nodded, reaching his decision.

"Your Highness, I'd love to be a part of that. Helping my hen may be therapy for me, too." He raised his glass to her. "Please, count me in."

Arthur continues to discuss the possibilities of the charity work they could run together. The baron's son looked up as a server passed him. The server apologized profusely and asked to take his empty glass. It was then that Arthur realized his glass was empty. He placed it on the server's tray but declined another glass. He noticed that most of the glasses on it were empty. That was weird. Then again, it suddenly dawned on him that it was rather quiet. He looked around. Oh, geez. The party was pretty much over. There were only about half a dozen parties still here, mostly sitting at tables talking. The floor was clear, save himself and the Princess, and the band had even left already. He laughed.

"Well, it seems we are left holding up the cleaning crew, Highness."

Cassandra smiled at back at Arthur. She always liked to find new people to help with her charity work. She was also happy at the idea of getting to know Arthur better. He seemed like a man she would want to spend more time with.

"Wonderful. Sometimes helping others does help ourselves, too."

Cassandra said with a nod of her head. She and Arthur talked about the charity work and the princess totally lost track of time. At some point she emptied her own glass and passed it off to a servant. She was so focused on talking with the baron's son, she didn't realize that the party was pretty much over. Both her parents had retreated to bed and James and his soon to be wife would be heading off for the night soon too. She blushed when Arthur brought that to her attention.

"So we are."

Tomorrow was going to be a big day for her family. James would getting married and then crowned king. It should be a long but very fun day.

"Tomorrow is going to be a big day. We can talk more at the wedding reception, though, and..."

Cassandra looked a little nervous as she suggested.

"...Maybe we could share a dance tomorrow night, too?"

The princess had never been so forward with anyone in her life. As soon as the words came out, she almost wished they hadn't. It would get very awkward if he rejected the offer. She might be a princess but Cassandra was a person too. A person that was nervous and suddenly full of doubt.
