Anika ran. She ran harder than she had in years, knowing that she literally had a pack of Hell Hounds on her trail as she went. She'd known she shouldn't take this job, known it, and had still made the rookie mistake of ignoring her gut! And now look at her-racing for her life with a bunch of dogs chasing her!

Vaulting over a low fence, she landed on her feet, whirled to fire a few bullets at her pursuers, and was gone again. After all, there was no way she was going to let them catch her and get ripped to shreds-she had people depending on her to get work like this done, and if she didn't succeed, then there was a large bunch of mouths that wouldn't get fed.

Her eyes roamed over her surroundings, searching for something, anything... There! In the alleyway, a plant pot filled with soil! Granted, there was another plant already in it, but that didn't matter.

Grabbing the pot, she ran, burying the fingers of one hand in the soil as she ran for a nearby wall. Vines erupted from the soil, one of them wrapping around her waist to lift her up onto the top of it. It released her, and she dropped to the ground on the other side before continuing to run, having already told the vines to keep growing until the Hounds would be caught up in them-not that she thought that her thorns would stop them, after all.

Racing around a corner, guns back in hand, she cried out in shock as she barrelled straight into two young women, sending all three of them flying. Just as quickly as the whole thing was happening, Anika was trying to get on her feet, only to discover that her ankle was badly twisted when it gave out under her, sending her to the ground again as the Hounds' howls reached her ears. Desperate, Anika tried again, hissing in pain. She'd completely forgotten the two women, though she had briefly registered their presence...

Kiki had been doing her usual business with Lea, which usually consisted of them trading whatever the other had to offer. This time their trade had been catnip from Kiki, in exchange for gold coins from Lea. Although Kiki had stolen the catnip, she was still happy enough to sell it to Lea. The quicker she had it off her hands the better it was for her disposition. Lea wasn't the sort of person she'd want to cross. Today Lea was wearing a hooded jacket, so from any angle she'd appear like any other person. Kiki had seen Lea's true form and it was something she didn't want to see again. Their dealings was a way for Lea to keep the others from hunting down Kiki.

Kiki was about to leave Lea after thanking her and pocketing the gold coins, when someone barreled into them and sent both her and Lea flying. When Kiki had come to her senses and pulled herself up off the ground was when she realized the stranger was hurt. The yelp of pain which had emanated from the stranger was the first clue. Kiki went to turn to Lea to ask for her help to help the woman, but she was gone. Kiki couldn't understand, why she had headed off so quickly.
"Are you alright?" Kiki asked the stranger who seemed to have difficulty standing, and when she tried and again and fell to the floor, Kiki took this as a very obvious no. She bent down and grabbed the strangers arm, helping her up, if not only just to give her some balance. The stranger looked panicked and almost scared of whatever she'd been running from. Kiki needed to think about this, what if the stranger was trouble, and she was about to get caught up in it. Lea's protection would only cover her so far, if she got herself into any more trouble, she'd be on her own. The thought sent a tingle down her spine, causing the small hairs on her arms to prickle and stand on edge.

Dismissing the thought and bringing her mind back to the here and now she looked at the stranger, who she realized was covered in dirt... that was when Kiki first noticed the gun. Kiki's heart started to speed up a little faster, and she felt the bile rise up and catch in her throat. This stranger must be trouble, no one ever carried guns around if they were innocent. She wanted to let go of the stranger and run away, but Kiki as much as she wanted to, couldn't leave them to struggle. As bravely as she could muster she decided to ask what was coming for the stranger.
"I.. erm, well I just wanted to know... what were you ... erm running from?" Kiki said, stumbling over her words and mentally kicking herself for the stupidity.

Anika stared at the girl, swaying a little on her twisted ankle, and then winced when her ankle twinged violently. "Hell Hounds... I'm running from Hell Hounds. Blast it... They'll follow your scent now, too."

Turning to face back the way she'd come, she frowned. She could hear the howling, but could almost swear that it wasn't as loud as before. She wasn't willing to take the chance, though, and carefully shrugged from the girl's grip, despite the fact that her leg gave out and she landed hard on the ground again, her leg pushed out and away from her body to accommodate her ankle.

She glanced at the girl, and then huffed. "You need to run, and fast. I'll do my best to hold them here, but just the fact that you'll have my scent on you will have them chasing you, too-first chance you get, you need to jump into some kind of flowing water, a river or something similar that's wide enough to break the trail. It's the only way they won't find you if I can't hold them here."

Even as she spoke, she was checking her guns over for wear and tear, her magic sinking into the metal and repairing it even as the bullets began to glow. With her weapons back in top repair again, she eyed the pavement before her. There was a crack in it, and she didn't hesitate to shove a hand inside to find the dirt beneath.

Thorny vines erupted from the ground in front of her, creating a gnarly, convoluted thicket that would keep most enemies from getting close. Then again, Hell Hounds weren't just any enemy...

Kiki looked at the girl, mostly with shock. 'Hell Hounds' she thought to herself, did those things really exist. Surely if they did, they'd have gotten here by now. The legends said they could outrun any demon, which would mean they'd have to run pretty fast. Kiki wondered if the stranger really knew what she was talking about, or whether in the midst of her pain had gotten dazed and confused. When the stranger shrugged Kiki's support off and fell to the floor, she was confused. Why wouldn't the stranger accept her help, but even more so, why was she being so bossy. There was nothing Kiki hated more than being told what to do. She couldn't even hear the hounds approaching.

Kiki watched as the girl summoned the thorn filled vines from the ground in front of her, it was thick and gnarly. Almost like something you'd see surrounding a princess' keep, to keep out any pesky visitors. Surely they'd deter the hounds, Kiki just watched in awe but shock. The stranger was injured and if she didn't get help soon, she'd probably do more damage than good.
"Let me help you" Kiki said with more authority in her voice than she'd used before, she hated it when people didn't accept help when they clearly needed it. The guns made Kiki feel uneasy, and she probably shouldn't be arguing with someone who was armed... however, she doubted the stranger would shoot her.

Meanwhile, Lea had disappeared, once she'd realized whom the stranger was. She couldn't understand why she'd be running... surely she'd be chasing? Lea had seen friends of hers do dealings with the girl before but didn't know much of her. Lea could hear the hounds of hell on the girls trail, and with the busted ankle she'd acquired, wasn't going to last the night. Lea's job was to protect Kiki, so for her sakes, she lured the hounds away, creating a mocked scent of the person they were trailing. She'd send them back to wherever or whomever had sent them. Not for the girls sake, but Kiki's. Lea had a hard time, these were well trained hounds and weren't fooled easily, but eventually she managed to start to get them away from where Kiki was and had been when the girl had come crashing into them. After all, what was the point in having demon-esque abilities, if you couldn't use them to your own advantage from time to time. Kiki kept things interesting for Lea, so she wasn't prepared to let her get torn to shreds just yet. Lea wanted to keep her around long enough just to make things interesting.

Anika turned pain filled eyes on the younger girl, her mouth firmly set. She couldn't hear the Hell Hounds any longer, and it was almost as if someone had led them away, though she wasn't going to take that as fact until she had confirmation of it. Right now, though, she frowned as she examined the girl. "I'd ask why you're still here with Hell Hounds involved, but never mind that now-didn't I see you with someone earlier? About six foot tall, wearing a hoody...?"

She was only asking because she knew a demon female who often wore hoodies to hide her demon appearance, one who was also the same height as the person who'd been here earlier. Of course, she'd only seen her around and didn't know much about her, but having a demon on her side for this fight would really help out big time. Speaking of which... Anika had noticed the girl's reaction to the sight of her guns, but couldn't really bring herself to care right now as she began setting bullets into the magazines ready to be used.

"Other than that, if you're going to stick around then you need to know how to fight. These things play for keeps." If only she hadn't missed her target! She couldn't even remember the last time she'd missed her shot, and just like her Sensei had warned, it was going to kill her. The man she'd been sent to kill... well, he wasn't exactly the nicest of people, and he had a reputation for making people disappear, too. Damn her informant for not doing his work properly...

Kiki looked at the stranger and wondered why she seemed so flustered about, well, everything. Did it matter if there had been someone there before? But it seemed as though she knew Lea, or knew of her. Which wouldn't surprise her, a lot of people did business with Lea up on the surface, but what made this girl different was the way she seemed to know so much, and carried a gun without being caught... Yet was the one being chased. In Kiki's mind, things weren't adding up and she was going to need answers soon enough. Realizing she'd not answered the strangers question, she thought it might be best if she did.
"Yeah, but I assume she had some place else to be." Kiki replied, sounding a little bit more confident than she had in the beginning.

Kiki watched apprehensively as the stranger began to load the bullets into the guns. Kiki wasn't afraid, but she knew that those types of guns meant business and could probably kill you with one shot. That was what made Kiki feel uncomfortable with the whole situation she'd found herself in.
"Fight? Why would I need to fight?" Kiki asked the stranger, she wasn't planning on doing any fighting not now, not ever. She was protected by Lea, and she wanted to keep it that way, the last thing she wanted was to be running for her life the way this stranger had, not all to long ago.

There was so much she wanted to know, but Kiki didn't think that the stranger was going to be sharing the information any time soon. Nothing about this situation made sense, nothing. Kiki was going to have to find out for herself, but wasn't sure how she was going to manage to do that exactly.
"Why were the hell hounds after you?" Kiki asked, not wanting to be kept in the dark for very much longer. She looked around, the sun was beginning to go down, so the dark would soon set in, that was when standing in the alleyways with a busted ankle, wasn't the wisest idea for them to follow.
"We need to move. It's getting dark." Kiki said, as-matter-of-factually. She didn't want to still be hanging around when it got dark, all sorts of things lurked in the shadows, things that didn't like her type. Kiki watched the stranger and waited for her response, almost growing tired and impatient as each minute passed. The air was growing colder around them, the heat from the day had almost completely gone, leaving a cold, but refreshing atmosphere behind. However, with the days events, Kiki did not feel refreshed by the coolness the way she normally would.

Anika shivered, unsure of what was going on. It looked as if the Hounds had been drawn away from them, and the girl... well, she certainly seemed to have a cat's curiosity as well as a cat's appearance. And she was right, too, they did need to get off of the street before it went dark. Her ankle was still hurting, which meant she would have to rely on the girl to get to safety, and that was something she definitely didn't like the thought of.

Still, it wasn't exactly as if she had a choice, was it...? Finally, she sighed, and began pocketing her bullets. Her guns went into hidden holsters inside her trousers, and her vines would die off in a few hours, anyway. She hadn't given them enough energy to keep going longer than that.

"I know... And I'm really sorry about all of this." She sighed, and pushed a hand over her hair in frustration. "I can't answer your questions here, though. It's not safe, and we do need to get under cover."

If only she had gotten information from more than one informant. She wouldn't be in this situation if she had, after all. And not only that, but she wouldn't have to rely on this girl for help. If she was under Lea's protection, then Anika was probably in for a world of pain. Even more so if they didn't get off the street soon.

Kiki gave the girl an odd look, she was a bit unsure why the girl was looking confused. Like something was unexpected, surely if she was being chased, her chasers would have caught up to them by now. There was something off about this whole situation, Kiki was growing wary of the stranger, there was something she just couldn't put her finger on. She was withholding the instinct to transform and run. The stranger needed her help, so she'd at least get her to shelter before leaving, deciding that was the right thing to do, she put her arm around the strangers waist, so that her weight would be taken off her ankle.

"It's fine. Let's get going then, I know a small safe spot, not far from here." Kiki added, not really sure if she wanted the answers any more, something deep in her gut was telling her she was better off not knowing. Kiki began to walk the girl in the direction of a small safe room she'd used when she hadn't been under protection, no one really knew about it and she knew there'd be no one there. The only person who knew of it, was Lea, and that was because of that's where she'd found her half dead. Kiki shuddered at the thought of that, there was so much more she didn't want to think about and dismissed the thought from her mind. That was one road she didn't want to really think about just yet.

The cold was setting in, and the hairs on Kiki's arm had begun to stand on edge, the cold usually got to her pretty quickly, there was nothing she could do and she'd have to deal with it until they'd gotten off the road. The sun had almost set, the dangers of night were beginning to set in quicker than ever.
"We need to get a move on, it's getting cold and dark" Kiki mentioned and continued walking in silence, it wasn't the awkward silence, but more one of unsaid mutual agreement.
