It was a bright day, the sun once more burning on to the already hot earth. But it was not a bright and happy day for the people of the land, no far from it. Most had just recently found out about the loss of the Energie and most were very worried over what would happen. The towns' guards were to try and calm the people down and retrieve the chosen of the young and health generation. Some couldn't want to go, some accepted it, and some put up a fight against going with the guards and leaving their family. It was a pretty day with a dark secret behind it.

Rozalia sat with her younger double ganger sitting by her, when the guards came thundering into her house. Rozalia glanced up from her reading, her younger cousin stared at the guards. "Their here to take you already?" Her younger cousin looked up at Rozalia and she looked over at her cousin and said "Yes, sadly. They have." Her cousin looked down sadly and Rozalia glared at the guards as they came closer and the backed off slightly and Rozalia lifted her cousin's chin and said "Hey, I will be back. I promise. Tell grandma'ma that I have left, and Chrisious that I will miss him. Even if he is a butt. Tell me when I get back how are latest prank ended." The younger version of Rozalia sadly smiled at her older cousin and nodded. Rozalia smiled and kissed her cousin's forehead and said "I'll see you later, Rose." And she turned to the guards, a bored expression on her face and said "Let's go. I'm not in the mood for waiting."

The guards looked at her with much surprise and she walked past them, power in each step that made even the guards slightly back down from her. She turned back and said "Let's go." They nodded and left the young child staring after them, as they left Rose ran out of the house. Rozalia let them lead the way and she waited to see who her teammates were going to be. She was the first to be picked up and she stayed quiet, observing where they went and what the guards did. They traveled all along the large town of Areana first, talking about how some of the other towns were volunteering some of their people to help them.

She thinks to herself, Levi Louella Blanchette, quite a mouthful. Levi, a girl with long brown hair and light orange-brown eyes hoists her belongings, backpack and all, and goes out the slide doors behind her house. No one was home, they wouldn't be home - for they have taken care of her, and now's the day they're finally allowed kick her out of the house because it will now be 'Arenae's Watchers' turn to take up the young kids who're ready and fit to go out and take back what was once Arenae's - the Energie.

Levi saunters down a dirt path through a small area of trees, desiring to look at the borders and morning's horizon on the end of the vast sandy land of her town before she must head back to the authorities. The sky was still a bit pink. It was merely a stress relieving thing that she'd do every now and then. As she goes to the spacious center of the town, it was empty. Gatherings of the kids were meant to be at the north, east, south, and west of the main area of the town - and there were the four groups, each of them were meant to have three to five people in each of them. The authority that was in charge of the job - to place the kids in the groups - assigned her to go to the north group.

There were yet to be anyone else in the waiting area for the mission to partake its course. It's either they've yet to gather enough youth, unable to gather youth, the youth and parents being rebellious, or that the civilization needed to protect it's population from getting any lower. The mission is supposed to set off soon, but there's quite few partners to work with at the moment.

For the nearby towns - far or close, they most certainly had their own Energie. To have the dire situation of regaining back Arenae's own Energie - just who or what organization could've stolen it? Levi thinks to herself as she sits down on the edge of the empty flower garden's red brick border. Around Levi, the town had seemed 'up to date', or 'well presented.' Clean and well painted with fresh colors. The grass is still green, the oxygen is still pure, the food is still there. But if you were sick, they'd seclude you from the others. No buts, once someone is found ill, they'd take that person away into 'the other part of Arenae.' What they do to them is unknown, even to Levi. She may sneak out within some of the nights of insomnia, boredom, or to escape her guardian's quarrels - not that they notice anyway - but guards are well alert in many regions of the town, night and day.

And many know, including Levi, that the food, water, and power of this town is soon to be done for. Might as well go live in another town, no? Levi repositions her legs. Possible reasons to steal another's Energie at an era like this - perhaps the Energie means a lot more than just providing a civilization with life. Maybe Energie is the goal of all individual, knowing and seeing some of the sorrow myself. Maybe there're some out there who think Energie can save the life of their beloved ones. Oh, if only humanity was able to know and control itself better with their care towards their own resources centuries ago, then this would've never have to exist. But everything was perhaps already set in stone since the beginning. As Levi stares off onto space, she tries to stay awake in the long anticipation of her about-to-arrive peers.

Rozalia had followed the guard as they picked up each new member, most left like good little pawns, while others fought to stay there with their family. She only sighed as she watched each one, seeing the same old thing, time after time. Some she knew, some she didn't. Not that it really mattered to her, she was just looking for who would actually be useful, so that they could quickly get back to their home. She sized each person up, their strengths, she listened to their conversations, listening for their intelligence. She skipped over each person who was crying over missing their family, knowing they would most likely be the first one to be dead, couldn't survive or killed, or sent back home. Rozalia wasn't heartless, she knew what these people were feeling, she too was missing her prank-mate, Grandma'ma, and even Chrisious, the older cousin who always gave her a hard time. She was grateful to him though, he taught her that she shouldn't show her emotions in these kinds of situations, the ones that stood strong were usually the ones who held pride, honor, or just really wanted to get out of their families. Rozalia could see who these people where easily, they held their heads high, never leaving the guards out of their sight. 'Smart kids, don't trust anyone.' A small smirk finding it's way onto her lips, but it soon flickered away as soon as they came to a stop for another person.

Here, it was the good part of town, clean and fresh looking. She hoped they didn't get another cry baby, a few simple goodbyes was all it really took honestly. The guards bang on the door and some of the weaker on the youths flinch at the guards' roughness, Rozalia eyes continued to be observant and intense, making people want to stay away from her. She sighed as she waited, her hand gently laying on her hip, she didn't truly cared what these people thought of her. Most of them wouldn't make it through the trip anyway, as she had learned from her parents. No use feeling attached to someone who wasn't or wouldn't be there for much longer. Besides, this was more of war kinda thing, of course she would try and help them, but you can't help someone who doesn't believe in themselves or have their minds elsewhere. Rozalia chewed on her lower lip, as she glanced around she got slight flashes of her family, but she quickly pushed them far from her mind. That was the last thing she needed, to be reminded of her family. She would start to look soft and she wouldn't make it, she had to make it though, for her parents, for her younger cousin. Her mother and father might not be there for her always but she wanted to prove to them that it wasn't good for them to have just passed her onto her grandparents who were already taking in her two other cousins, they were not loaded with money.

Levi sighs, she might as well do something before the final moments of being here are gone. Not that she cared much, she just didn't like using up precious time by being a sitting duck. She gets up and decides to look for the guards who're supposed to round up the youth. She goes through some alleys, streets, stores, a church - of which has always been empty - and winds up at some neighborhoods. The guards were banging on the doors of people's houses, demanding the parent's children to be forked over. Some guards were left in charge of making sure the gathered participants don't run off. As she watches the scenario of what seems to be another annoying drama with a parent arguing loudly with the guard at the door, the parent was then warned to follow the commands or else they'd barge in the house. Ugh, too noisy. Levi thought quietly to herself. If anyone were to know just how senseless she is, they'd reprimand her for being so heartless, except for the guards. Not that Levi cared, and nor will Levi ever understand the stress that comes with the separation between family members, friends, and relatives. The main things that depresses her with separation is the separation of the prime things she needed for life; food, space, shelter, and her flexible and intelligent mind - the things that are running out in this town, along with her mind that is getting dull and impatient with the waiting.

A guard walks over to her. He spoke in an assertive tone, not rude, nor filled with care. "You, get back in the group." Levi just shrugged and went over to the other people. She crosses her arms and shifts her weight to her right leg as she attempts to figure out a ground to work on once her group is sent out I wonder if there's a limited amount of Energie meant for each town. And if it's so limited, with the lands dying, there's really no hope of trying to survive without stealing another's Energie, we might have to do that if we can't find out our own and if we're about to die from the possible lack of resources in this desert.

So, Energie is what makes the grass grow. Surely there still must be rain, cactuses, snakes, trees and mud out there to cool off? But yes, they'd be extremely hard to find ... And to find out where our own have gone to, there were five groups of bandits known in the further areas just outside the other town borders from Arenae. The Midnight Horde, the Crusaders, the Crimson Rats, the Iron Sigils, and the Gilded Edicts. Within the long years before today, Levi remembers being in a different town and reading a newspaper left on the street. It had mentioned those five names, and as childish as the names were, she had encountered at least five individuals who had tried sneaking in Arenae. They were well clothed and had knives and other weapons. Levi would follow them within the nights, but was extremely lucky to not get caught when there were more than just one bandit prowling through the streets. One night, she failed to get herself the access to the town's hidden area of where they'd place the energy in it's hold. One bandit was in to something, perhaps relating to the location of such an area, but there were just too many bandits at the time, and it was quite risky. She was hiding in an alley, having only the darkness and shadows to hide in. She had been surrounded and almost spotted until she had finally decided to give up and escape behind their backs when they had turned away from the alley. She had headed back home before the sun had risen and exposed her in daylight to the thieves.

Rozalia snapped out of her daze and she looked around for anyone new, she had kept behind everyone so she could easily see everyone. She saw a new person walking to the back, she eyed the person, not hiding she was looking at her, not that she ever did anyway. She stared at the figure, she was short, like her, she had brown hair and brown eye, as she took a closer look she was rather surprised to see they had a slight orange tint to them. She noticed this girl didn't show too much concern about leaving her home, where she was raised. But then again, Rozalia didn't know the girl's story so she couldn't just decide that this girl didn't like her family or something. Rozalia watched the girl as they waited for the guards to tell them to move forward.

Rozalia saw the guards telling them to get ready to move, they were heading towards the center of the large town. She picked up her small bag and began to move, her eyes once more wandering around the group. She knew she would soon see her parents, she dreaded this, she didn't want to see them, not for this reason. She bit back her dread and marched on like the rest of the group, silently. There were the small groups, crowding with people you knew were a human instinct, but Rozalia didn't want to get too attached to anyone, she knew this trip could be life or death. They were going after theifs that were able to get past all of the guards and defense systems, this was not going to be a piece of cake.

Levi casually stared back at the girl. She decided to simply look at the faces of her possible team members, this one seemed promising. She had long hair that was as black as the darkness of the peaceful skies at midnight, as well as natural dark blue highlights that Levi herself takes note that she has never met anyone who had highlights. She had remarkable large and blue eyes. Her lightly tanned body's slender form shows that she is also well trained. Perhaps stronger than Levi. Being in the back with this girl who doesn't seem held back with by anything, and seeing that she too isn't so dramatic, Levi wanted to befriend her, at the very least being able to greet herself to her to become acquaintances. However, it doesn't seem to be a good time now. And the group she was in was rather quiet. Besides, having this strong-looking girl to be in the same group as Levi, this girl who seems to have already captured, moreover lifted, this town's low chance of survival, is quite unlikely. From first-sight analysis, if we're teamed up, we'd be the breadwinners of this town. Levi turns away as she stretches, and tries to stifle a yawn. She attempts to look ahead of the group, and knowing where they're heading, she's hoping that the leader will not take to long for his or her speech.

At the center of Arenae, the gathering was finally complete. "Attention!" A man stands on a large platform, surrounded by guardsmen. As the already-not-so-boisterous people heeded his words, they all turned to look at them. His voice boomed loud and clear, but he was clearly new at this. A pause, then he spoke, "To the chosen youths of this generation, you are honored with gratitude to search for the missing Energie of Arenae. Remember that you all are heroes of the current and future generation of this town, and we are all in your debt. We all wish you good luck, and may your glory and reward of bringing this town back to life stack beyond the heavens, for you all are our endearing light in this dark era!" A silence follows. "May the grouping, goodbyes, and departure soon begin."

Afterwards, the other leaders started to sort out the young into different groups. They were improvising, with the quick first-look analysis of the chosen people and all. Surely they must not be too strict with putting kids in teams. It was then that, from afar at, a boy with brown hair and green eyes in one group was talking to the leader of his own group, a girl who also had brown hair and green eyes was standing next to him. However, it had seemed that the leader was having no tolerance for whatsoever the boy's words were. Two guards came up and grabbed the boy, throwing him back into his group. It was difficult to see, with people moving around and blocking the view, but then the girl's leader, the girl who was about to go to the boy, had grabbed her arms and roughly pulled her back towards her own group. A small commotion that was quickly dealt with. The crowd of moving people had then blocked everything. Their taste may not be suited to mine. Soon, Levi's group was getting smaller and smaller as people were being sent away. As Levi was crossing her arms, she gripped the strap of her bag out of a bit of frustration. No, I can't. There's not enough hiding places to get away with this. The girl with the blue highlights in the back that was second to last with Levi was soon sent away towards her own destination. As it was Levi's turn, the leader looked at her for quite a long while, as if in deep decision making. Levi stood straighter, puffing out her chest a bit to show a bit of confidence. If I can't be with her, then send me to the best group you got. She was then sent her to the same destination as the girl before her. Levi hops along happily as if she had won an unlikely gamble.

Rozalia stared ahead when they came to the center, there were a couple other groups but she wasn't paying much attention to them. Her father was coming towards her when the announcer cut off. He began to send people in her group off to separate groups, when he got to her, he didn't even seem to recognize her. That irked her, he had the oddasity to expect her to join his little team but not show her any recognition? Oh, she would show him. She hid her anger quite well, walking where he told her to, her face not letting on any of her inner anger. She leaned her back onto the wall in the back of her group, taking notice of who all was now in her new group. She slightly smirked as she saw the last girl from her old group coming along with a slight pop in her step, Rozalia delicately lifted her eyebrow at the girl. This girl seemed to like the idea of being in this group, what for Rozalia didn't know. She looked around and noticed it seemed this group seemed to be full of the more healthy young people, she saw some of them showed emotion on their face, but most tended to show a blank face. She sighed, she hoped they would make it, but she didn't want an emotion cold group. Of course that would be the group that probably died first, the one that got too emotionally attached to everyone on their team. She sighed, she knew each person would probably find their go to friend soon, humans were social creatures and couldn't fully cut themselves off from others. 'One bad side, to being human. I guess.' She turned her observant gaze back to the happy looking girl, did she know someone in the group or something? Rozalia doubted she would find out, but that didn't dim her curiosity.

"Don't forget this one!" One of the guards said gruffly, grabbing a wiry, dark haired girl. The fact she went so willingly surprised him, and after a few brief moments, sent the girl to join a group. One with two other young women, one with orange-ish hair and eyes, the other with dark blue highlights.

Unlike most of the other children, Olive hadn't spoken one word of ill will. She was scared of what was out there. She was angry that the government was relying on teenagers to do their job. But, Enrgie was what her family needed in order to sustain itself, and for her parents, she would leave home. And she would come back alive.

Her black hair was choppily cut, hacked off just yesterday with the blade of a kitchen knife, more for her own symbolic purposes than anything else. Olive wrung her hands in the fanbric of her shirt anxiously, casting the other two girls a curious, sidelong glance. She didn't even know their names, and they were expected to fight together as a team? Preposterous. Instant chemistry didn't exist. And, catching the blue-haired girl's tense posture... She wouldn't be talking anytime soon.

Which was a shame. They both seemed strong and smart, on edge, but not crying like most of the others. Even Olive felt her eyes watering, and she had made it a rule since childhood to never let emotion show. It was a sign of weakness. She was filled with admiration--but never let it show on her face.

Levi was about to bite the guard who threw the new girl in the group so roughly, she didn't like how that other guard treated the two people at the other side of the town center, but decides not to since it's going to cause more problems anyways. She notices the girl's delicate looking features and takes note to defend over this one the most when situations become dangerous in the future, but she had also kept an open-mind of this girl's abilities as well, even though Levi herself doubts just a bit by the girl's small stature and whatnot. A fairly long while later after the events took places, Levi observes - after all of the noisy weeping, goodbyes, hugs, love yous, good lucks, promises, announcements, and after the gaurds had pried friends, relatives, and parents away, they were finally sent out.

Far out on the sand fields, Levi's boots made prints on the sand after her, the prints that would soon be covered by the many gently blowing zephyrs in this endless horizon of sand and sand dunes. She looks out behind her at the town for one last time in order to remember it’s looks when she does arrive back. The other groups were reluctant to leave, staying around for a bit before finally moving on to their own destinations. Levi’s own group eventually moved on as well. And as it is, the colossal and heavy doors of Arenae were creaking loudly as it was closing. Creaking quite loudly as Levi knows that there's no turning back. Levi then turns to the north, trying to devise some more ground on what to do. She then decides that it would be a good idea to introduce each other, or to at least introduce herself to the five people in the group if no one wants to speak up. "Well, it'd be a good thing to introduce ourselves now, yes? Well I'll start - " Levi crosses her arms and straightens her posture, a bit impatient to get things running on the road. Unsure whether to, or not to, smile. She decides the latter. "My name's Levi Louella Blanchette. Course, you can just call me Levi. I do suppose that you all have a general mental map of the towns of this area? Because I do have a compass, but this isn't enough without knowing our destinations, ya' know? And I also suppose that you all have your own defenses? Against the bandits and other town's groups that could be after us, and the like. As well as to hunt and gather food, although we all know that such things will be rare to find." I wonder if we all have compasses.

Falloch, Violet Town, Merrimere, Artenia, and Fall Town. All of these towns are up north. Respectively, north, northwest, west, and northwest again of each other in that order. Levi looks out at the horizon again. Dried up forests, boneyards, some stones, some plants. Some small flying birds or scampering rodents that just might still be around. The one thing I don't like is the lack of the variety of quality resources that I can use. One of the other group member had spoke, "My name's Seph, and I have all of that. However, I would like to see what we should do now - I don't want to mess anything up, so I'll just hear the group out and see what I can do." Another person introduces their self as well. ((OOC: I allow that anyone can role-play these two characters whenever they want. I'll have someone else name the other character. If no one wants to name the other character in the group, then I will.))

Levi thinks to herself, Good. Now, for the other two. But if they don't want to, then that's always fine by me. I'm not going to force anyone.

Rozalia looked at the new girl, as she got thrown into the group. She gave the guard a cold stare that sent shivers down his back as he walked away, she turned her gaze to the girl, checking to see if she was alright and to see what she could add to their team. As someone spoke up she looked up, they introduced them self so she complied the same courtesy. "Nice to meet you Seph and -----, I'm Rozalia. It's a pleasure to be working with you all." Giving them all a curt nod, her voice held no hostility, no irradiation, she sounded like a girl meeting members of her group for a project at school. She looked to the other girl, seeing if she would also give them her name. Rozalia was raised with manners, if someone spoke to her she spoke back, she never said anything that was mean unless it was for the benefit of others. Her grandmother had whipped years of her smart alek-ness out of her and so she rarely ever spoke rudely, just very prompt and very curt. She looked around at her new members, she wondered how they would contribute to this group but it was too early to tell, she would just have to wait and see.

Rozalia didn't like trudging though the sand as much as the next person, but she did it without any complaint. She was keeping herself distant, at least for now, so she didn't form any strong attachments to these people. They may be her team but they were also in danger, just by doing this, and she knew it would take a lot out of her if she lost someone she spent time on to get to know. She knew that the distant way she acted could be her saving gracing or token of death. But right now her mind was on where they first should be heading, and they needed supplies, she knew how to get some stuff. So she could maybe help with that for her team, she also had a few items in her bag that maybe be of some use to her or her fellow members.

Trudging through the sand hasn't been as easy as Olive had hoped. The lack of friction did nothing to help her lame leg, the knee covered in a black brace. She listened with great interest, cursing the guards that had confiscated her father's rapier before she had entered the city. "My name is Olive D'Becque. I don't...I don't have any belongings." But I know a lot of things, she thought to herself. What plants could keep you hydrated. How to read stars. And most importantly, how to remain detached.

Levi seemed very bold, and Rozalia was as distant as herself. Seph seemed friendly. And the boy...what was his name? Emmett Collins, a tall, intimidating looking man, with dark hair, dark skin, and dark eyes. But his smile was warm, and Olive knew at once that he'd be reliable. If nothing else, he looked strong enough to do much of the heavy work. If they got into any fights with bandits or rival groups, if nothing else, his mere prescence would hopefully scare them off.

"Falloch is the closest city from here, yes? If we leave now, we should be able to get there in two day's time. But that's without any...complications." She reasoned, "Does anyone have any objections...?" Olive spoke clearly and precisely, voice unwavering and surprisingly strong for one as small as she. She immediately lowered her voice though, wary that maybe her comrades would think her too bossy and annoying to pay heed to.

Levi replies to Olive, "None at all. Let's go." Levi strolls ahead of them. She thinks things over. Things will probably get boring - is this all we're going to do? Just stroll? Levi pouts. A two day walk. Well I have my belongings just enough for my own survival. It might be difficult to find a safe camping ground. We might see a bandit or two. They can be holding guns or arrows ... and if they do, I'm most likely the one responsible for disarming them.

Falloch. Sounds familiar, and she's heard of the town before. However, she didn't come from Falloch, no. She came from elsewhere. She doesn't know the name of the town that she was born in, she only knows how the place looked like. But now, it'll be completely different. Her old town might still have its energy, or it might not. I think the latter ....

It would’ve been nice to stay in her other old town, but she had to escape – it was being taken over by … not bandits, but by town youths like the ones in her group. Upon that day, the streets were empty and quieter than before. She had stood in front of the shops and was about to go in, reaching to open the doors – but they were locked, closed. It was then, that she heard light footsteps coming closer. Far footsteps, but they were getting closer and more audible to where Levi was.

Levi continues to stroll along with her head start in front of her gang.

She didn’t want to think about what had happened. The words were still inside the back of her head. I didn’t get back in time, back to my caretaker.

No one came out that day, and she still didn’t know why. The only one left unscathed from those streets was Levi herself... well, at least physically. Her caretaker – Levi can only continue to move on, no matter how much she wishes that Levi herself could’ve done better for her.[/i]

She was lucky on being able to survive on her own through the leftover resources and shelters of the other towns that had lost their Energie. It was lonely, cold, harsh, and close to hopelessness. And it wasn't that kind of low of having to live in the abandoned resources that used to belong to the deceased ones, it was the kind of low on how people can canker. To become one of them, those cold-hearted raiders who had taken the Energie and her caretaker away forever – it was distressing.

Levi sighs. And then there were those times....

… Resources; Falloch. The caretaker would always tell Levi about it. They would be the target for many bandits. They have tried to keep their plentiful resources quiet, but word got out anyways. Levi thinks to herself, and to now, does Falloch still stand? Or does it fall like all of the others? Will it fall - has it fallen? - And will it let its Energie be taken away to another's greedy hands? Fates, enlighten me.

Levi stops a bit to wait for the others to catch up, and looks back at them to see if they will.

Sergeant Thade nickel reached up, clasping his great sword, his men reverently had named nightshade. He prepared himself to draw the enormous black steel blade. It was larger than others of its kind, his men always wondered, at how he could fight so deftly with the beast. Night duty always put him on edge. Recently Bandits had been getting more desperate, attacking more frequent. Out in the night almost at the horizon, arose great cloud of dust trailing up into the air. Corporal Davis stood next to him, his tan lacquered armor gleaming in the moonlight. The man was tall, almost a head taller than, Thade himself. He raised his spyglass. Curiously Davis broke the silence.
"Sir, a Caravan this time of night?"
"Corporal Rouse the men"
The man looked back at him a Incredulous look on his face.
"Sir?"
slightly annoyed he replied.
"Just Do it, I have a Suspicion this isn't any ordinary caravan"
"Bandits sir?"
Growling at the man pointing to the Guard-post.
"Corporal, Move!"
