Many dream of life on the ocean. Many wonder what it would be like to sail the seas. Some even dream of what it would be like to sail amongst the stars. To ride the endless waves of radiation and motion mixed with light. Never the less, the sky wasn’t the limit for sailors. As technology advanced, so did sailing. Now it wasn’t the least bit uncommon to find a ship sailing the endless sky, hoping to take everything and anything they could from the sky sailors.

Many ships carried treasures from other worlds, even other galaxies. Some carried furs, jewels, and, on the occasional ship, women. The women could be different breeds of animal, or even foreign aliens from those distant galaxies. Some women were given the option of their duties. Some became pirates or part of the Navy, as they so wished. Some wished to be sent home, if the ship captain would be kind enough to let them go. Others… The poor few who didn’t have a choice, were the ones held in the brig to be sold off, or to become part of the whoring community.

The ships of these far futured creatures and people seemed to be a mixture of old ships from Earth’s olden days, and from shows that the Earthling planet used to air like Star Trek, Battlestar Galactica, and a few sci-fi movies like Treasure Planet, Wall-E, Star Wars, and few others. What a time to be alive.

Of course, not everyone got along. There were still battles over territory and diplomacy. There were armies that would die for their masters or bosses. There were weapons of mass destruction that could be used to take out entire worlds. Few worlds fell to different weapons, all had the same ending.

Loss of life.

Some lives were the last ones that inhabited certain worlds and had become rare. Some breeds came together to make other rare species. One of these rare breeds was a Wolfamute, an Alaskan Malamute and wolf half breed.

A body built like a wolf, yet just as fluffy as an Alaskan Malamute, this halfling was extraordinarily different. Most wolves had dark fur or white, like the Malamutes as well. This halfling was red furred! Of course, there were patches of other colors as well.

Face like a wolf, her lower jaw, or chin if one prefers, was white which cascaded and fanned out over her chest, then came to a point at her belly button. Around her crystal blue eyes was dark fur, almost like permanent eyeliner that made her eyes stand out even more. Her ears were perked like the wolf. The edge was outlined in black, then went to a deep red, almost a bloody scarlet, before going to red the rest of the way. The hair she liked to keep long and usually in a ponytail held the same red as her body with black and the bloody scarlet highlights. Her feet were white, like socks on any dog. Her tail was an odd combination of all the colors she held on her body. It made it look like a painting, almost. Some of her claws were white, others were black.

And where was this rare breed? Why, being held in a brig to be fetched for a ridiculous sum. Of course, she could fight back, but pirates always played dirty when capturing what they wanted. She had fought off the advancements of the other creatures on board the ship, and thus was carried to the brig to carry out her sentence of either giving in to the Captain’s advances or be traded off. She hadn’t caved to the Captain’s orders, and thus was in the brig.

That was… Until a Naval ship attacked!

The Navy had been on the upkeep on hostages or people about to be sold, and had just found the ship with the latest raid. Though, one must wonder if they knew there was only one valuable on the ship of these pirates.

The ship rocked with the power of the Navy, blowing holes into the ship, yet somehow the gravity station still held onto some of the pieces of ship. The rare breed woman grasped the bars of her cell, her muzzle bound as well as her wrists. Her ears were turned to listen to the cries of the pirates and of the invading Navy. She only hoped that someone would come down and save her too.

Two centuries ago, a starship, one of the great colinization vessels, simply vanished. It was presumed lost with all hands, maybe an unfortunate victim of inaccurate space jump technology at the time. In reality, the ship simply jumped much farther than ever intended, exiting into an unknown sector far on the opposite side of the galaxy. The jump had stranded the ship, burning out the jump drive, turning it into scrap in an almost crippling blast of power. The ship was left adrift, her meager crew all alone as the struggled to keep her intact in the vain hope of reaching a planet, any planet, that would offer her cargo safety. For in the ships holds were half a million civillian and military personnel, all in cryo sleep for the indefinite amount of time the ship might take to find a hospitable or suitably terraformable world for them.

The Lupine nation aboard the ship had been outcasts in normal space. Being a strong pack oriented race that was strong in the ways of warfare and peace alike, and thus feared and shunned by the other races in the same sector of the galaxy. While they sought no conflict, their steadfast resistance to the corrupt governance of the Confederation had brought war. After decades of bloody conflict, their last colony was overrun, the last of their people forced to flee into the far reaches of space. And so, in desperation, Alpha Centaurus, the highest remaining leader of their people, organized an Exodus. Using their last reserves of material and technology, even scaenging the last of the navys ships for parts, The Ark was born. In its armored bowels lay the seeds of his civilization. 500,00 refugees and military personnel, frozen in sleep for the long journey to a new home.

And it was this ship that Her people came upon. The ship that changed her home and the way they lived. For Her people at the time were a young space faring race, with merely a handful of colonies spread throughout the solar system they called home.

That was centuries ago... And yet She couldnt stop her her thoughts from dwelling on it from time to time. She, as all her people, knew the storries and old tales of the peoples that had made the wolves come here. She sighed and shook her head, sipping from a cup of hot tea. It didnt matter. In time, their people merged, a new civilization emerging from loss and hope. They were now one people. Though the old ways still seperated the castes, there was little prejudice among them beyond friendly jabs and competition as with any people or military.

As head of her Clan, the biggest in service, she was a respected figure. She was feared by some, but loved by most. What was she? She was a Sergal. Her race being similar to the wolves that came to their home, yet very different. And she was unlike most. Being around 8 feet tall she was one of the tallest of her species ever recorded. Her frame was lithe and muscle bound, yet curvy and a bit on the healthier side of the scale. Her fur was unique to her race and colors, her chin down over her chest to her crotch and lower legs being a pure white. Her arms and tail a matching shade. Her mane, shoulders, back and the tip of her tail were a mix of forest like camouflaging, a base of several tones of green with smatterings of yellows, oranges and white. She truly a sight to see.

Her thoughts were interrupted by her communications officer as he passed on a report of a mayday from a transport under attack near the edge of the system. She growled, ordering all hands to stations as her imposing form sat in the command chair, holographic tactical screens appearing around her.

"Full speed! I want details Shomei.. Whos attacking them?"

The ship shivered as it surged ahead, its cruising speed merely a fifth of its combat speed, meaning the ships inertial dampeners had to catch up a bit slower than normal when jumping to full speed.

"Its the crew of the Nitrate, Captain! Manifests say that the cargo hold of the Mayflouder is holding some diamonds from one of the lunar moons of Caramesh that are quite valuable, some herbs and other medicinals needed for the war on Flonor Six, and one passenger who's been requested to appear... On your planet, Captain," Shomei had answered her, turning in his seat to look at her. "It doesn't say what this passenger is... But if this member is a diplomat..."

Everyone knew what that meant. If a diplomat was captured, it meant another war was going to be on the horizon. There were three different wars already raging and another one would topple the systems. It would be a full on spacial war and no one wanted another one after the first one...

By the time the Naval ship appeared to help the cargo ship, all that could be found were floating bodies, some cargo aimlessly drifting about, and a hole nearly the size of a single personal cruiser in the hull of the ship. The ship was quiet as a few of the crew members started the protocol to scan for life.

"There's nothing here captain... No signs of life anywhere... What is your next suggestion? Do you want us to go after the Nitrate?" Shomei asked, turning to look at his boss. "They might have the passenger that was aboard..."

Of course they had the passenger! She was locked in the brig!

~*~*~**~*~*~

The Dog-kin, a large quantity of dog breeds, was nothing uncommon amongst the worlds. What was rare was the fact that a wolf and a dog bred together to create the most rare creature in any system. Now, what she knew of her own family was her mother had given birth to her brother, who wasn't breathing when he was born. It was speculated that there had been something wrong with him in the womb, or that his life had given up to let her live. Her mother, heartbroken, had left her in the hands of her father, who died in battle.

She had been raised most of the time after the age of four by a clan, a very, very small clan, of stray wolves. She knew they weren't her family, but it helped to be raised by them. They taught her how to defend for herself, how to attack when it was needed, and how to even speak in different languages. They taught her how to take care of herself, of ways to survive whether it be in the massive city of Mainsten on the rather populated planet of Traven, or in the wilds of the frozen planet of Hothern. What she wasn't prepared for, was the sickness that had missed her, yet effected the clan she called family. They were wiped clean, leaving her alone in the wilderness of Florein, the planet most wolves inhabited when she was young.

She remained a single halfling since then. Sure, she dreamed of having a family of her own, a constant in her ever changing world, but thanks to the forces that be, she didn't know if she should put her dream in a bottle on a shelf, or to just throw it away entirely. Bad luck seemed to follow her no matter where she went. As shown with her being in the brig of a pirate ship going to be sold off like a priceless piece of china from Earth's younger years.

~*~*~**~*~*~

As a photon torpedo tore through the hull of the Nitrate, the captain shouted in many different tongues, thanks to his different tongues, to man their stations or they'd get thrown overboard and left to the vacuum of space to blow their heads apart. There were many explitives in his words, but she'd rather not think of the meanings behind them.

Shaking her head, her tail nearly lifted as she heard more people climbing aboard the damaged pirate ship. Her hopes started to build, and she could only pray to herself that someone would be along to get her out of this damned cell. As much as her ancestors didn't mind kennels, the wild side of her couldn't handle the bars.

Again, in his many tongues mixed with many explitives, he told his men to charge, to take down the damned navy pigs and a bigger cut would be given to every member who managed to kill the most. Of course, this caused the pirates to yell and charge at the Navy soldiers, weapons drawn to dispearse the enemy.

She sat like a solid statue as she watched her ship slowly, deliberately blast the smaller pirate ship into a drifting wreck. It resembled a frigate, and indeed its alloy and hull signatures matched a decomissioned navy vessle, albeit modified in many ways. Its shields and armor failed under a single volley of her battlecruisers ion cannon batteries. A single photon torpedo finished her, taking out her engineering compartments. All signs pointed to barely functioning generators and life support as their only remaining systems.

"Boarding parties launch! Take prisoners if possible, leathal force authorized." she frowned as two assault shuttles streaked out towards the wreck, knowing her marines would most likely eliminate anyone aboard that even held a weapon. Her only hope was that the pirates had kept those captured in a brig away from the fighting.

Her marines, being exclusively wolf and sergal kin, didnt even flinch as they counter charged the pirates, quickly eliminating the forward group as they advanced into the dying ship.

Through luck, or fate, the brig and armory compartments, atached to one another, hadnt been breached. Unfortunately, the pirate captain and his most loyal had retreated and locked themselves into said compartment. The marines quickly cleared the rest of the ship, taking a few prisoners.

"Captain, Commander Ferlin reports that the remaining pirates are holding the armory and brig, dug in lick ticks. If they took a prosoner theyd hold them there. He wishes to use a breaching charge and stun grenades..... It would also affect the prisoners." Shomei reported, his ears splaying as her growl reverberated through the bridge compartment.

"Do it. Capture them all. We will finaly have this nuisance removed." her order was sharp and her tone was sharp enough to send shivers down spines.

The burly wolf commanding the marines nodded to a sergal carrying a large pack. They all backed down the passageway as he set a large green circular plate on the door. It magnetically attached and he typed in a short timer and arming command befor quickly joining his comrades. Seconds later the door of the armory imploded inwards, showering the room with shrapnel. Several marines fired grenades through the door, the rounds giving off a blinding flash followed by high voltage emp fields to incapacitate anyone still standing.

They quickly moved in, discovering only a handful of survivors in the armory, many having been killed by the doors debris. Ferin grumbled as he entered the brig, discovering only a single body, a female it seemed. He quickly cut the lock with a small laser cutter, and sighed with releif as he felt the females puls.

"Captain, the marines are withdrawing with prisoners. The pirates only had one female locked in the brig. Shes unconcious but unharmed mam." Shomei relayed the message with a smooth voice as she watched the shuttles disconect from the pirate vessel. She waited until they reached a safe distance before turning to her wepons officer.

"Forward battery fire, make sure it stays decomissioned this time." her order earned a flinch from the wolfess manning the console, due to her tone than anything else.

"Aye captain! Fireing now!" her paws danced on the console as the ship thudded faintly, absorbing the recoil as her forward railgun battery fired. Three streaks of hyper velocity antimatter shells connected to the frigate a moment latter, the resulting blast tearing the ship into several smaller shattered pieces.
