The night continued on, the temperature dropping. Being so close to the mountains it was colder then usual, and Vesper shook herself to try to stay warm. Frost was building up around the wagons, and trees. When she let out a breath, a cold puff formed, and Vesper felt drained as time dragged on.Her armor was not the best for warmth. To keep busy, she walked in circles around the camp, eyes staying on Briarwoods tent. The light within it had gone out some time ago, but something nagged at her, imploring her to not trust him to be asleep. Still, no matter how long she stared nothing happened, and her shift passed with out incident.

Brynn had her focus divided between Lord Briarwood's tent and occasionally, mirthfully watching Vesper fight to stay warm as the temperature continued to lower. Brynn was sitting down at a base of a tree beside the Lord's tent. She had her knees pulled to her chest slightly, her forearms resting lazily on her knees. The cold didn't bother her much, it was much warmer compared to the region she was from. The crisp air that nipped at any exposed skin only sent bitter reminders of her prior life instead of chills. She snorted in amusement, watching the elf go around in circles.

When it was almost time to switch out, Vesper found her way to Brynn, plopping down and curling up as much as she could."It must be nice for you, the cold I mean. I grew up far south of Cairah, so I'm not use to the cold. I am a little jealous you're not effected though,"she said laughing softly. Vesper sighed, blowing out an icy breath, and looked back towards the tent"No movement from the lord,"she jabbed her finger in the general direction."I'm a little nervous of switching out, like somethings waiting for us, you know?"

She looked over at Vesper almost pitiful. Sighing, she detached the arctic wolf pelt from her armour before tossing it to her, mute. The pelt will give the elf some warmth, shielding her skin from the wind. "This is much warmer than what I'm used to." She replied, her eyes remained fixed on the tent, watchful. "I don't know if that feeling is from Briarwood or the package itself, they both emit an aura that is increasing tension."

Vesper blinked as the pelt landed in her lap. A small smile spread across her lips as she wrapped it around herself. "Thanks... I don't know either, but I'm hopping once we're done that uneasy feeling will go away,"she said looking up to the sky.

"Hopefully." She agreed with a small nod of her head. She glanced around idly, her breath materializing in front of her, shaped in haphazardly formed shapes. Her blade was drawn, resting on her lap, ready just in case anything happens. Her body heat helped keep the blade from collecting frost on the bronze finish.

The two continued watch for an hour or so, before they switched out. The night carried on without a problem, and soon dawn broke way over the mountain peeks. The company awoke early, and many were greeted with the smell of crisp bacon and other lovely smells. Vesper stretched as she left her tent, bones popping into place. She hadn't slept well after she was relieved, and it showed. Her hair was wild, and bags were formed under her eyes. The leather armor she wore looked like it was put on with some distraction, as buttons were undone, and her tunic untucked. Upon seeing her, Merlin frowned, and patted the spot in front of him for her to sit.

"Here, your hair looks like ****,"he said, pulling her down to sit. She did as he instructed, and sighed softly as he went about soothing her hair and braiding it."Do remember, darling, to come by my tent after you've eaten. I have the identification spell at the ready, so it should not take me long to get a read on this broach of his." Merlin finished the braid, and stuck a simple white flower into the base of it at her head. Where he had gotten it, she didn't know, but it made her smile all the same. "Thank you."she kissed his cheek, before finding her way to the food line.

Brynn woke up later than usual for her, the restless night doing her no favours, her black hair was unbraided and flipped over to the wrong side. She sighed as she exited the tent and stretched, forcing back a yawn. She was wearing a simple grey undertunic and leggings while she completed some of her morning chores, flipping her hair to the correct side before she began braiding it as she walked.
.

Ragnar roamed the camp sluggishly, heading towards the breakfast line, lured by the enchanting smell of cooked bacon. Ragnar had gotten the shortest end of the stick, being stuck with the last two shifts, back to back. Fortunately, he was already suited up and ready to go; however, he was fighting with himself trying to keep himself awake.

Vesper looked at him as he entered the line behind her."You too, huh,"She asked noting his tired look. "I'm glad we'll be getting this done with today. I don't think I can handle another restless night,"she said moving up to take her food. She waited for Ragnar to get his rations and motioned towards an empty spot for them to sit and eat.

"I hate the damn noble, Briarwood." Ragnar growled as he received his ration from the company's cook. He glared coldly at the Lord's empty tent. "No one takes Ragnar's sleep." He mumbled as he followed behind Vesper absentmindedly, just going through the morning motions without much thought.

Vesper laughed and gave his back a light pat. She understood his sentiment well."Let's just get through today, and wipe our hands of this whole mess, yeah?"she took a bite of her food, and let out a small sound of satisfaction at the taste. Talia out did herself this time. The pair finished their food, and Vesper stood, looking towards the lords tent. "Would you like to join me? I'm going to Merlin, see if he can figure what this thing is,"she said, patting her bag absentmindedly.

He nodded in agreement, neglecting a verbal response. He was more focused on the food in front of him, hoping it would give him enough energy to make it to Vadosa. He closed his eyes briefly, savouring the excellent taste of the bacon. Once he was finished, he rubbed his face lazily to fully wake himself up. "Yeah, lead the way." He mumbled with a yawn.

They made their way to the mages tent, pushing inside. Merlin was seated on the floor, spell book open and at the ready. At his feet was a large casting circle draw out in chalk. Runes and intricate patterns criss-crossed together giving off a soft magical energy. When they entered he smiled at them and motioned for them to take a seat."Vesper place the package in the middle of the circle."She did as he asked, and pulled the parcel out of her bag, careful as she set it down not to smudge the runes. Merlin sat up, and leaned his head back slightly. He closed his eyes and spoke the spell, lighting the circle up with gold. The package lifted from the ground, the magic twisting it around as it poked and prodded the contents within.

The spell lasted all of five minutes, before the glow faded, and the box dropped to the floor. Vesper looked to Merlin, and frowned at the confused look on his face. "I....I couldn't get a read..."He stood and scooped the box up, staring at it.

"Nothing, at all,"Vesper asked. Merlin shook his head and sighed.

"It's old, that's for sure, but I can't make sense of the spellwork surrounding it, it's...odd."

Ragnar emitted a sound that was a mixture of defeat and annoyance. "Brynn can't get a decent read on Briarwood, you can't get a read from the package. What the hell is going on?" He huffed as he sat on the floor, little ways away from the circle. He had his head rested on his hand, staring at the package at the centre of the circle.

Merlin sighed and handed the package back to vesper. "I'm sorry,I usually never have a problem like this,"he said, defeated. Vesper rubbed his head, knowing how much this was grating on him."It's alright, lets just get ready, and finish the job. Then we'll go home, and you can take a break."She gave him a big smile, and headed out to take care of her business.

"I'm sorry, man." Ragnar apologized to Merlin after Vesper left, standing up. "It's just been one hell of a night.." He admitted before turning his back to the mage and exiting the tent to go splash some water onto his face.

Brynn, on the other hand, had completed her chores and was ready to leave camp to finally end the contract. She was with her horse, one hand placed on the mare's snout while the other was gripping the leather reins, impatiently waiting to the order to mount up.

"I see you're eager to leave,"Vesper said as she guided her horse over, having finished packing all her things as well. She rubbed the mares nose, chuckling when she pushed back against her. "Oh, before I forget-"she reached into her bag and pulled out the pelt, handing it to Brynn"-to hand this back. I walked off with it last night, but thank you. It was very warm.I hope you don't mind if it smells like my perfume. I may have sprayed some on it this morning, I forgot it wasn't part of my normal outfir. I didn't sleep very well,"she said. The pelt did indeed smell faintly of roses when she handed it back to Brynn.

"We are all eager to leave this gods forbidden camp." Everyone involved closely with Lord Briarwood were restless, hurrying to end the contract and leave from the presence of the noble. She briefly checked the condition of her blade before she nodded at the elf, taking the pelt from her. She slipped the pelt into the pack that was connected her mount's saddle. She doubted anyone slept well, the entire camp seemed like it was filled with the dead, bodies mindlessly wandering about, focusing on only the motions of their tasks, not thinking all too much. It was going to be a long day, a rough travel to Vadosa considering the couriers' lack of sleep. "It will fade in time.."

The camp was pack within the hour, and everyone was mounted waiting for Finny's order. The man double checked packs, and gear, before mounting his own horse." Alright, like I said, we're not stopping today. If you get hungry you have food rations in your packs, and your canteen. We're less then a days travel from Vadosa. We get there, we escort Lord Briarwood to the location, and after the package is handed off we leave."the group nodded their understanding. Satisfied Finny moved, the rest of the team following. The pace was faster today. The anxiety in the air made the party move faster, and by late afternoon they could see the mountain the city laid beneath.

Vesper watched the white peaks come into view, reaching up into the sky. Though she could not see the city, she knew exactly how far down it was. She remembered the first time she had been here, the anticipation of that day was nothing compared to now. They were almost done with the lord, and this job, and that bubbling relief was better than anything she had experienced in a while. Besides her, Merlin trotted his mare along, a sick feeling growing in the pit of his stomach. Earlier he had been happy to be done with the task, but now with the mountain looming before him, something in his gut was screaming at him to turn back.

Once they began to head out, Brynn pushed her way on horseback towards the centre of the caravan. She wanted to be close to Lord Briarwood as they headed to Vadosa. No one would bat an eye, after all, she was responsible for Briarwood, no one would be suspicious. She trailed a pace or two behind the noble, occasionally exchanging glances with either Ragnar or Finny. She kept her eyes trained on the noble's back, watching him studiously. She knew something was amiss and she was hoping the noble would mess up and make a mistake just long enough so she could get a read from him. Unfortunately, she has yet to find an opportunity.
