Yuki sighed as she walked through the halls of her college in Tokyo. Just like her mother, she went to school on a scholarship, had a part time job, and her own apartment. She didn't want to stay in the dorms for she was afraid of having a roommate that would know her secret. Yuki is a werewolf, just like her father before her. She sadly has no memory of her father, when her little brother Ame was born, he had gone out and gotten hit by a car. He was dead when mom found him, but since he was in his wolf form, she couldn't do anything about a funeral. The garbage men just picked up her father's body and threw it in the back of the truck, driving off to let her mother cry in the pouring down rain.

The years for Yuki's mom Hana were no cake walk whatsoever. She was left to care for 2 wolf children by herself and nobody to go to for help. It turned out alright for Yuki in the end, she was smart and went to college. Her brother Ame however, pursued the call of the wild and stayed in the mountains by their childhood home. Yuki had gotten a boyfriend however, when his mother had gotten married again they moved. Just as soon as she showed him her secret too, he left. For a while she thought it was because of that, but she knew that Souhei would never do that. He had known the whole time, yet hadn't said a thing to anyone. It hurt the both of them when he left. They had just started to get attached to each other and he had to leave.

Yuki hadn't had seen Souhei in years, and she doubted that she would ever see him again. So as the years drew on, she gradually started to lose her feelings she once had for him and kept her nose to the books. It was her second year in college, and she was determined to do great. She arrived to her lecture hall and sighed as she pulled out a chair and sat, taking out her books and notepad to begin class.

The calming drum of rain drifted in through the windows. It brought back memories of a night just like this one, many years ago. Images of translucent white curtains, swaying with the wind, obscuring the shadowy figure of a beautiful girl who was also a wolf. Somehow he'd known, even before she shared her secret with him in that abandoned classroom, and to that day he'd never told a soul. Sohei Fuji hadn't thought about that night in a while, but he could still remember every detail vividly. It had been like a dream, and just like all dreams... It ended. Souhei's mother had a new husband and a new baby on the way so the family was going to move to the city to be closer to his stepfather's job. He had wanted to run away, drop out of school and get a part time job. It was Yuki who'd convinced him not to, she was going away to live at the dorms for Middle School anyway. As much as it hurt to admit, she was right. That didn't make goodbye any easier.

Sohei moved away from his family in High School and worked a part time job to be able to afford his own little apartment. He never had much, but he worked hard so that it was always just enough between food and his bills. So many times he wanted to write to Yuki, but even when he finished the letters he had no idea where to send them until he eventually gave up. It wasn't long before Sohei became a metaphorical lone wolf, just as he'd predicted back in that empty classroom. Sohei had become resigned to being alone, but he never became bitter. When things got hard he would always just smile. Even if smiling was all he could do, at least it was something.

Sohei sat up on his mattress and stared out the window, wondering when his apartment would begin to feel like a home- not just the place he slept and kept his meager possessions. He hadn't felt like he belonged anywhere in years. The rain continued to fall washing the world clean, indifferent to it's people and their struggles. After a storm like this the world would feel clean and refreshed, like a brand new start.

The next day started just as every other day did. Out of high school now, Sohei kept busy working but that day he only worked one of his two jobs, so he had the afternoon to himself. Tokyo was so different from the countryside where he had once lived, everyone was always milling about, rushing full-tilt into their graves. Sohei didn't feel like one of them. As they hurried past him, he didn't feel like he belonged anywhere. Without realizing it, Sohei had come upon one of the local universities. He'd never considered going to college before, having only average grades throughout high school. He could see the appeal though, an education, a career, a future... Without thinking, Sohei walked through the gates and onto campus, aimlessly wandering. He vaguely wondered if he'd get into trouble like that but brushed it aside as he entered one of the lecture halls of a class that was just starting. To this day, he could never tell you why he did it. Maybe it was for just one glimpse of the future he'd denied himself but as he sat there in his worn t-shirt you can be sure that he didn't expect it to be the beginning of an incredible story.

Yuki wasn't even paying attention when someone walked in. She figured that it was just another student. All through class, she took notes diligently. Every time the professor spoke she wrote it down, thinking that everything he said was important.

Class had finally ended a few hours later. She started to gather her books, putting them in her bag. When she stood and handed in her card, she recognized someone. Someone she hasn't seen in a long while. Yuki's eyes widened as she saw him. Souhei, her childhood crush that left a while ago. She followed him out to the hallway, before doing anything else, she called his name.
"Souhei..." She said quietly at first. But in fear of him not hearing her, she spoke a bit louder, her voice shaky as she was nervous.
"Souhei..." She watched for a reaction if there was any.

The lecture was long, but Sohei listened attentively the entire time. The class was interesting, even if he didn't fully understand. He couldn't help feeling out of place in the classroom. It wasn't that he disliked the lecture. In the back of his mind Sohei just wanted to understand what he was missing.

As the lecture wore on, however Sohei started to feel that whatever he was looking for wouldn't be found there. The young man had become a student of the world. He was used to learning what he needed to know from experience. But street smarts were far better than no smarts. At the end of the day he had his freedom.

As the other students went to sign out of class, Sohei made to leave. He was pretty sure college would never be a path he could take. He'd made peace with that, but it was nice to at least get a glimpse. At least he hadn't completely wasted his afternoon off.

As Sohei turned down a hallway towards the exit he thought he heard someone call his name. He paused, then continued only to hear it again. He turned, looking for the source, and saw a face he never thought he'd see again outside his dreams.

Sohei took a step back. It was her, after all this time. Why here? Why now? This girl, this wolf, that he'd known as a child. A time that seemed so far away. His hand went to the smooth, pale scar tissue on his ear. "Yuki?" He asked breathlessly. Sohei was overcome with emotions. He wanted to turn and run just as Yuki had the done so many times after giving him his scar. He was rooted, afraid of opening that door he'd thought long closed. He swallowed and squared his shoulders. He couldn't turn away, nor did he want to. For whatever reason, there she was.

Yuki wasn't sure if that was Sohei or not when he didn't turn around, she was about to give up when he stopped when she called his name again. He turned and she couldn't believe that it was actually him! Of all the places in Japan, he was at her college. She couldn't help herself, her heartbeat was racing as she ran to him, closing the distance between them rather quickly, and tackling him with a hug. She through her arms around his neck and held him tightly, not wanting to let go.

Other students would stare at the two, but Yuki didn't care. All that mattered at that moment was the two of them. She wanted to be with him forever, never let go of him again. The day he left was heartbreaking for her, but now that he was here, in her arms, she never wanted to let go again. He was the only one who knew her secret, which made them automatically connected, but she wanted to be with him more than just secrets. She wanted to be with him for the rest of her life.

Time seemed to stand still for Sohei from the moment he uttered her name. He hardly dared to believe it was real. Of all the places he could run into her, she was here, today. And there was no preparing him for it.

He was brought back to reality by a soft collision. Yuki was suddenly hanging from him, her arms wrapped around him tightly. In a daze, Sohei returned the hug. A million things to say rushed to his brain at once but none of them seemed quite right.

After a moment Sohei broke the embrace and looked into Yuki's eyes. "Hey." He finally managed. "Do you want to get some coffee?"
