Christine walked into her apartment, carrying the Chinese take-out she'd picked up on the way home, and headed straight for the computer. She'd had a long day at work. The new game she'd been assigned to work on testing had so many errors it should have still been in the development stages. She'd had to fix no less than twelve coding errors today, and she was nowhere near done. That was the reason for the take-out. Normally she saved money wherever she could, especially on not eating out, but she just didn't have the energy to cook tonight. What she really needed to do was relax and unwind.

She stretched out on the bed with her laptop, digging into the food with her chopsticks as she got the computer started and pulled up her favorite game, Runescape. She typed in hr username and password, trying to remember what she'd been doing last night before she went to bed. She got her answer soon enough when she logged in and found herself in a cave full of dragons. Oh, right. She'd been working slayer, the skill where various npcs assigned you a specific type of monster to kill. Her current assignment was to kill blue dragons. Ugh. She hated slayer. And she hated dragons too. No way was she going to finish that right now. Instead she teleported to Lumbridge and headed to the bank to put away all her combat gear. She decided she would do something that usually cheered her up- go down and help some new players.

She pulled out some money, a few sets of noted low-level armor and weapons, and some smaller food items. Armed with this newbie-friendly gear and a wealth of game information, she headed down to where new players started out, determined to meet some new people and make herself useful.

"Tsk..." Jared let out. He had been pacing back and forth in his room, trying to come up with a username for his account on Runescape, which he had stumbled upon last night. He put it off till today after work, that way, he'll just sleep in considering that he was off the next day. Anywho, he wants a username that was cool, that was mighty, something easy to remember but also strong. This was one of the hardest parts of the game. Trying to come up with something unique and cool to be identified.

"Phoenix!" He cried. Jumping back to his seat, he tried to input the name "Phoenix and clicked enter. "USERNAME ALREADY EXISTS." He clicked his tongue. "Seriously??" Back to square one. 'Phoenix' doesn't sound like it would be a popular name. "This is what happens when you're late in joining a game." He uttered as he googled for sites that provided "Unique Boy" names. "These... are so boring..." he cried, changing the search words from "unique" to "mythical". Withing 10 minutes of searching, he grew found of the name "Cerberus". "This oonnneeee..." he proclaimed.

He goes back to the site and types it down. But before pressing the 'Enter' button, he felt something in his gut. "This name will definitely exist. Just watch. That's just how lucky I am." He cringed and pressed the button.
In a matter of seconds, the name he had used was immediately approved. "WHAT?!" He cried out. He was extremely surprised as to how it worked. He compared the names he had used the past hour, but it seemed to him the 'Cerberus' would be something someone else wouldve thought of in the long run. None the less, he grabbed his mouse and started to customize his character, picking the type, hair color, eye shapes, and all that lot.

A half hour after she'd logged on, Christine was already annoyed with the task that she normally enjoyed. So far there hadn't been many new players in the area, and those that were there weren't particularly chatty. Eight of the people she'd tried to talk to had totally ignored her. One had told her this was his second account and he didn't need her help and to leave him alone. Very rudely. And she'd tried to explain to someone that using a magic attack in melee armor didn't work very well, which was why he couldn't kill a monster he was three times as strong as. He hadn't listened to her. All in all, it had been a rather frustrating day. She decided that she would wait a few more minutes, but if she didn't find someone to help out, she would leave and go find something else to do. After all, there was no reason to be here if no one wanted her help.

"Mighty fine, I might say so myself." Jared chimed. He had just finished customizing Cerberus and is extremely excited to have the game started. "I haven't felt this excited in years...!" He ranted. At the loading screen, he goes back to his gaming years, all the fun he had done, the silly conflicts he would have with users online, cyber bullying, leveling up, and all them good stuff. A few seconds in, the game had started. "Whooaa.. I like the simole graphics to this game." He said, as he tested his character out, ASWD movements, Hot keys amd such. "This is like... the cuter version of World of Warcraft." He thought, moving his character around town.

He entered the chatroom box area, and wrote to the public: "HELLO FELLOW USERS. I COMETH FROM A DIFFERENT PLANET. I'M HERE TO ABDUCT YOUR LADIES AND YOUR WINE." He cant help it. He loves to give an entrance. Being a gamer for a long time, he knows it can get awkward or can be prone to cyber-bullying if the newbie seems "noobish". In a sense that they are helpless. One has to have some spunk. "Crazy always beats thug", his buddy would say. But every game community is different. There are more decent ones than the rest, mostly just a hit or miss situation. He wanders around, looking for someone random to chit chat. 10 minutes into the game, he had accumulated a few female members and had already added them as a user friend. "This is why females are better than males. They can be quiet friendly." He grinned, as he had met a few brutes along the way who seemed to be on the rude side, but there were male players who had helped him in certain areas of which he was grateful.

Christine had stepped away from the computer for a few minutes to clean up after her meal, but when she came back, Cerberus's comment, which was still showing in the chat box, made her smile. At least he had some humor. He probably wouldn't be as rude as the others she'd run into so far, so she may as well try and talk to him. "Hello newbie, and welcome to our planet," she typed. Then, in another message, she added, "As a warning, I would be careful about abducting women if I were you. We can get a bit feisty here. And I'd go easy on the wine too. It lowers your attack, which will make the women even harder to handle." And finally, just for a bit of added humor, she typed, "If you're a good boy though, you may get some treats. Sit doggy," her version of a humorous nod to his account name.

She wondered how long it would take him to figure out how experienced she was in the game. She wasn't wearing any high-level armor or items that would give away how high she was. The only thing that gave away her experience was her level, which along with her name would show up if he held his mouse pointer over her. Still, even that might not mean anything to him since he was really new. Although she supposed that the fact that most of the people here ranged from about combat level 3 (the lowest level possible) to about level 50, while she was level 126, would be a pretty big giveaway even for someone who didn't know much about the game.

"Oohh. Who be this?" Jared muttered, as he noticed a message that has popped up from the chat box. Reading it, he realized it was a reply for him. He laughed to himself; he found it cute, and the "sit doggy" had reminded him of an anime that was popular a year back while it had aired, about a half demon, half human male, who had an enchanted necklace given to him by a priestess, with whom his female companion can use as a means of "disciplining" him, with one command; "Sit boy." He would then instantly be pulled to the ground, and no power to stop it. He decided to reply back with "Lol, fiercesome must be thy ladies that reside in this game. And thanks for that wine advice.. ;) " Pressing enter, he decided to check out the character's profile.

"Jesus, holy christ...!" He exclaimed. This person had their character at a whole different level. That time and dedication put in completing all the given quests, farming for points to level up, enemies, enhancements, and what not; Respectable. He couldn't help but send her a friend request. "That's a Veteran." He said, all the while nibbling on one of his nails as he read the character's profile. Going back to the chat box, he sent another message: "Is there a possible way to not do all the quests, but still level up? It would be nice to be stronger soon." Send.

"AAH..!! Why do I feel like I'm using this person for information?" He let out. It seemed like a natural thing to do. He wasn't going to rob her or anything. He just wants all them good armor, weapons, and items to enhance his stuff. And what better way than to ask for help from someone who probably know whats up? He aint doing nothing bad. His imaginary self patting his back for comfort. "I'm good. And now, to wait."
