The Sky was crimson, violet, and gold. The sun was slowly sinking into the horizon, and the silhouette of New York City was breathtaking. Enormous monoliths cloaked in shadow, stood strong against the rosy skies. You would never know that they were almost completely leveled by an invasion from inter-dimensional, aliens a few years back. Everyone remembered, some still woke up in cold sweats screaming from the trauma of the event. Yet, people still traveled back and forth to work. The streets were still filled with taxi cabs, and the sidewalks were still filled with the same hustle and bustle of everyday life. The world had to go on, and to do that, there needed to be routines to achieve normality. These routines proved to be helpful to most, even to some of the more unsavory characters...

Taking advantage of these routines was what Lacy did best, especially when it came to assholes like Jeff. Jeff was the 55 year old owner of the local general store, and Lacy was planning to rob him. It was going to be easy. He deserved it too. The young woman sat cross legged at the opening of the alley just behind the store. She wore a worn out black hoodie, and a pare of old tattered dark jeans. Her appearance was shadowed by the hood that was pulled over her forehead. Lacy had learned the place in and out, and she knew the old man would leave the back room once the the shadow of the building completely darkened the alleyway. Now, Lacy didn't know this by casing the place for days, like most would. No, she saw the images, or visions as they played out in her mind continuously. Lacy was completely blind, and her ability to see the immediate future, helped her to get around, along with her white cane of course.

"Five... Four... Three... Two... One." The woman whispered to herself. Just as she muttered one, she the shadow of the building completely covered her. Quickly, Lacy stood in one graceful movement, and her body seemed to evaporate into nothingness. Within seconds the woman reformed within the far left corner of the back room. A smirk tugged tugged at the corners of Lacy's lips, realizing from the smell that she was inside. It looked as if she was gazing about the room, but in reality, Lacy was fishing for another vision. Usually they came to her in rapid succession, but every now and again she had to be patient. Like clockwork she got another vision. The room was pictured in her mind. The view point moved quickly from her point of view, to the North Eastern most corner. There on top of a scratched up wooden table was a medium sized safe. As soon as she saw all that she needed, Lacy teleported quickly to the safe. Now it was important to be quick with her next moves, Jeff would be finished with his cigarette break. Taking a deep breath, she reached towards the safe. Instead of her hand meeting solid steal, it phased into the dark container. Eight, inch stacks of bills were quickly stuffed into her hoodie, until the vision of the dirty old man hit her. No worries though, Lacy had all she needed. It took all of five seconds for her to phase right back into the dark alley.

Lacy was out of breath now, from all of the teleporting. It did take a little out of her, but she had enough energy to phase out of there if need be. Breathlessly, Lacy chuckled to herself as she reached into her hoodie to pull out one of the stacks of cash. "Finally I can get something other than the crappy bread from the bakery dumpster. Maybe a better hoodie... Oh, and a blanket." The hooded woman happily bounced where she sat, as she celebrated in her newest accomplishment. In that moment she let her guard down.

He had moved from brother, to prince, to a trickster and liar, to a traitor, a criminal, and now king. It hadn’t been an easy route, far from it in fact, and one even the God of Mischief had never fathomed. But people changed. Growing up in the constant shadow of his brother, rarely recognized for his own mastery of skills or for successful display, Loki grew bitter, vengeful.

He had distanced himself, spending more time alone with only his books and spells for company. At first Loki had sought only to impress the Allfather, to earn some acknowledgement, some small bit of understanding that he was doing something right, that Odin even saw him at all. No such thing ever happened. Frigga was probably the only reason Loki didn’t go mad sooner, and even then it only delayed the inevitable. Dwarves, dark elves, jotuns, it wasn’t only the Asgardians who were subject to the trickster’s schemes, but even when punished Loki never seemed to learn his lesson, in fact the names, the titles, they only encouraged him. If he was seen as a being of chaos, so be it.

But he had always been in control of what he did, until the one time he didn’t. It tormented Loki still, having someone else pulling the strings, leading him on like a puppet. And now he had to suffer the consequences. Did he deserve to sit on the throne of Asgard? Of course not, but Loki wasn’t the one seated before the people. No, Loki had died on Svartalfheim and Odin still ruled the realm...or so that was what everyone had been led to believe.

As a child Loki had always envisioned what it would be like to rule, to be a king. What he had imagined had always involved grand adventures, elaborate strategies to protect the realm from attack, being worshipped! Sadly, reality never seemed to follow dreams. There was a reason the king was frequently away, off worrying about diplomatic relations with other realms or whatever lie Loki had fed to the court. In reality, Loki just needed an escape. An escape from the audiences, the neverending questions of ‘great’ importance, everything! Gone were the days where he could remain in solitude for hours on end without so much of a disturbance. And on top of it all, impersonating a man he hated with a deep passion.

Midgard has become a frequent escape for the god. He had avoided the realm at first, not sure just how many alarms his presence would set off following his previous ‘visit’. He never showed his true appearance knowing that someone would recognize him. Each time Loki would try to learn more about the Midgardians and their customs, not having had the chance to do so before. Even the Asgardian libraries held very little information on the species, or even on their realm aside from how primitive the people were and how they had once worshipped the Asgardians many centuries ago.

His current visitation had brought Loki to one of his favourite destinations, one of Midgard’s own libraries scattered around the realm in various cities. The god could spend hours browsing the shelves, reading, and absorbing the knowledge. From the time the doors had opened until now, Loki had claimed a corner for his own, curled up in one of the chairs with a stack of large texts at hand. Anyone who happened to look upon him would simply see a young man, nothing out of the ordinary.

It was close to closing, this Loki knew without having to seek out a clock or any other form of timekeeping device. Slinging a bag over one shoulder, the god made his exit, hands in his pockets as he made his way down the street. He would use his magic soon enough, teleporting to the room he had rented not far off. It was far more convenient than going back to Asgard each time, and allowed him to keep up the charade that Odin was off realm on important business without the risk of being caught. As Loki passed yet another alleyway he paused. Something had felt off, as though there were a magic user or similar nearby. Curious, Loki slipped into the alleyway, using his powers to turn himself invisible as he approached the other being.

A few steps away a young woman was seated. Loki could hear her happy exclamations about being able to now afford such petty things, to him at least. Not immediately making himself known, the trickster took in the situation. Midgardians were still a puzzle to him, but one he had found he thoroughly enjoyed studying. With his curiosity getting the better of him, Loki allowed his illusion to drop, keeping his altered appearance as he spoke.

“Not quite the usual place to find someone such as yourself.” He had to stop himself from calling her a Midgardian. “And with such valuable resources.” He chuckled, noting the stack of cash in her hands and the others poking out of her pocket.

Lacy almost dropped her precious money when the male voice echoed from the other end of the alley way. Slowly, she turned her head towards the stranger. No she could not see him, but she'd certainly feel better if she could fool him into believing otherwise. Usually her aim was pretty good, and yet her gaze did waver every now and again. At this point she was trusting that the stranger was standing still, or walking straight at her. Lacy knew her blindness could be considered a weakness in the eyes of many, even if she felt differently. They wouldn't see the work she put in, learning the city in pitch blackness. They wouldn't see how she was capable of doing far more than anyone with perfect sight could dream of. It was best to pretend to see then have anyone mock her.

"Maybe I like the new perspective. You should try it some time." The woman said, her tone calm yet with with a hint of venom on her lips. Instinctively, Lacy reached up to pull her hood down, but it couldn't reach any further. Slowly and methodically she rose to her feet, trying to keep her attention on the man just a few feet away. At the same time Lacy slipped the money into the outer pocket of her hoodie. With a smirk she replied to the man's second statement. "I have no idea what you're talking about."

"Now if you'll excuse me..." Lacy dropped her gaze and slipped her hands into her pockets. Turning around she headed the opposite direction towards, what most would think was a dead end. She knew otherwise. There was a metal latter that lead up to the roof of the neighboring building used by maintenance. Once on the roof, Lacy could search for the nearest shadow with her precognition, and get the hell away from that guy. Reaching to her left, she felt the wall, waiting for the cold metal of the latter.

Loki didn’t so much as bat an eye at the way the woman startled. Ever since he had learned how to go invisible the trickster had loved to sneak up on people, especially the guards, appearing out of nowhere and always causing a shock. This time was no different. He watched her turn to face him, or at least in his general direction. Trying to get a read on her, Loki’s brow furrowed. Something was different about her, something he couldn’t quite put his finger on but he knew it was there.

The tone Loki received in reply to his own comment had a slow smile curling on his lips. He often had to remind himself that nobody knew who he was when he took on a new form, and he had spent enough time observing mortals to know they were quite fond of snapping at one another for the slightest of things. This one seemed no different.

“Is this how you treat everyone who expresses any concern? No wonder…” He didn’t finish that sentence, trailing off with a small laugh and a crossing of his arms instead. A smirk was still in place as he watched the woman stand, tucking the cash once more out of sight with yet another snarky tone not unfamiliar to the god. He could recall many times when he had used the same line on Thor or one of his friends when questioned seconds before disappearing from sight.

Loki watched the woman moving along the wall, searching for something. His head to the side, the god attempted to figure out what she was doing. Midgardians didn’t tend to act in this way, as least not that he had witnessed. Slowly, Loki began to piece things together. He had seen behaviour like this once, but not on Midgard. Smirking, Loki calmly followed the woman, leaving a few paces between the two of them and noticing the ladder that must have been her objective.

“You could have had me fooled.” He said, his grin bleeding into his voice and providing no other context as to what specifically he had meant. Hopefully she would be curious enough to stop, or at least pause long enough to provide some answer as to whether he had guessed correctly.

Ah, her plan was coming together... Soon she would get to the ladder and she would be up and out of there. All she had to do was hurry it up a little. Then his words brought her to a screeching halt. At least that was how she felt on the inside. In his point of view, the woman simply paused and slowly looked back. "W-what do you mean fooled?" Her voice wavered only a moment. Damn it, Lacy knew she'd screw up somewhere. Just play it cool, maybe he was bluffing.

Turning back in the direction she was going, Lacy continued. It was just a little bit longer. Without warning she walked right into the brick wall. The ladder was there, but it was pulled up just high enough for Lacy to be out of reach. A slight pain radiated in her nose and up to her forehead from the collision. All she could do was take a deep breath, stay calm and turn back around. Nothing happened, right, nothing.

"Why are you following me?" The woman asked, as she slowly walked in the direction she thought the stranger might be. Although there was a high chance she was slightly off. "Because you in a dark alley way, following little ol' me doe-" Lacy's sentence broke off as a vision hit her. An image of the alley way came into view. She was standing not far from the stranger, but the space behind her was completely dark. The left corner of the woman's mouth twitched as realization struck her. This was her chance.

"Oh my god what is that?!" Lacy yelled out while pointing right behind the stranger. Not knowing whether or not he fell for her trick, she stepped back into the shadows. It looked as if her body was rapidly disintegrating into sand. When her body was fully absorbed into the shadows, she was able to phase just behind the very brick wall she ran into. Finally out of there, Lacy pulled back her hood and smirked. White hair shone brightly against the moon, and bare contrasted against her pearly white skin. Having albinism even her eyes were effected. They were a soft lavender, and her pupils were a milky white, giving away her blindness.

Just as he had hoped, there was the pause. Being something of an expert on worrying others for one reason or another, Loki didn’t miss the way her voice wavered as she spoke. Stepping closer at an almost causal pace, Loki kept his arms crossed as he answered, more or less.

“You’re not a very good liar are you? You’re panicking, wondering what you did wrong, what gave you away.” His voice was low as he spoke. “But you didn’t account for this, no, not at all.” He was having fun, and his amusement could be heard in his voice. “And now here we are. I really should applaud you on your attempt.”

He didn’t say anything as she turned away, once more attempting to get away. He had to suppress a snicker when she collided with the wall, still attempting to hide herself, and what Loki’s assumptions may have got at. Loki didn’t move as she changed her intended direction, moving towards him.

At her questions Loki could only smirk.

“Singing a new tune, are we? If I didn’t know better I would say you were trying to hide something, not that your little robbery didn’t go unnoticed already.” Anything else the god may have wanted to say was stopped with the sudden cutting off of the woman’s own words. Another familiar gesture, a plan forming.

Loki almost rolled his eyes at her shouted exclamation but stopped as she pulled out a new trick. Watching as she disappeared into the shadows, Loki only chuckled.

“Two can play that game, mortal.” He muttered before vanishing himself.

He reappeared on the opposite side of the wall where he assumed the woman would be, and he was correct. Clearly pleased with herself for that little stunt, Loki allowed her the brief moment of satisfaction, watching as she pulled her hood back to expose the pale hair and skin beneath. He had remained silent, not alerting her to his presence. He stood in front of her, only a few steps between them when he spoke.

“Disappearing through walls now, hmm?” He asked casually. He did oh so enjoy messing with people.

Loki had to catch himself, having almost made a comment on that being an amateur move, but a step up for mortals. That would have given him away if his sudden appearance hadn’t already.

Letting out a breath, Lacy frowned for a moment. She really needed to get better at hiding her blindness. Obviously she was easier to read than she thought. What did the stranger want anyway? Wouldn't he have attacked by now if he planned on harming her, or did he simply enjoy toying with her? Maybe her robbery of the shop angered him? The way he spoke, how he picked apart her thoughts and actions as if he was in her head concerned her. It reminded Lacy of one of the scientists that interrogated her to dissect her visions, except the scientist was far more violent. Did this man work with them? No, there was no way, she was being paranoid. No matter, the guy was her problem anymore...

Happy with her now two achievements, Lacy chuckled. Just before she was about to step forward the same male voice caused her to pause. Now, he wasn't calling from behind her. Lacy panicked as she realized the man was directly in front of her.
"How the hel-" Eyes wide and darting about, the woman stepped back trying hard to center her gaze on the stranger. Lacy soon gave up, and threw her hands in the air. Just as soon as fear rolled in, anger took over.

"Who the hell are you, and what do you want!? You want your cut of the profits or something?!" Lacy growled taking a step forward. At this point she didn't care how close she was or wasn't, she just wanted to tear into him. Anger felt far better than fear. Now waiting for his response she clenched her shaking fists at her sides. The woman was not the type to let herself be bullied.

It was Loki’s turn to chuckle at the woman’s surprise and her frantic actions that soon followed. He had seen it a million times before when he would suddenly appear out of nowhere, been threatened at least half of those times by a guard thinking it was a threat, and been yelled at the other half. This woman appeared to act no different, her panic quickly turning to anger.

“Who am I? Well if I told you that this wouldn’t be nearly as much fun.” He spoke, one brow raised as she once more stepped forward. Amusement flashed in his own eyes at the sight of this pale young woman, filled with rage, shaking before him with the likely intent to take a swing. It was comical almost with their differences in height, though Loki’s current appearance was a few
inches shorter than his true stature.

“Please, if I had wanted ‘a cut of the profits’ I would have taken it by now.” The god said, using his telekinesis to lift one of the stacks of cash from the woman’s pocket, letting it float between them for a moment, just long enough to stir up anymore worry, before dropping it at her feet. Pausing in thought, Loki’s eyes locked on the woman’s own milky white pupils, confirming what he had thought. She was blind.

“I think the better question would be who are you? Normal people don’t simply move through solid objects, or use such powers for criminal means.” This woman had been a spur of the moment discovery, Loki had only followed a peculiar feeling. Magic and powers of any sort often left some trace behind, especially if one knew what to look for. "But as we've seen, you're not exactly normal, now are you?"

Arms folded, the woman grumbled. She didn't like that the stranger was refusing to answer all of her questions, well at least most of them. Lacy would be lying if she said she wasn't relieved that the man was talking, rather than attacking her. Her visions did appear a couple times, but something was off. Usually they would come quicker when nearby other people. He also appeared stock still in the images. Most of the time Lacy would get some sort of cue as to which direction the individual would take in the next five or so minutes.

"Aren't you accommodating..." Lacy muttered, a wry smirk playing on her pale lips. Taking a step closer to the stranger, Lacy narrowed her eyes still finding it hard to figure him out. His new questions only confusing her more. The woman continued to ask a one of her own. "That wall and the buildings on either side of the alleyway are at least two stories tall, and it would have taken you at least three to five minutes to have sprinted down that road, cross over into the next block of apartments, run down road across from us, and find the small path that would take you directly to me. If you could even find it at all. Now, pray tell, how would you explain that? To me, you don't sound very 'normal' either..." As she spoke the woman stepped closer and closer, her voice quieting as she made her point.

Her serious expression softened for a moment.
"But... To answer your question, no I am not normal." Lacy breathed, signing quotation marks with her fingers. I'm not going to make excuses for my actions either. I've gotta feed and clothe myself somehow. I refuse to beg for money, and no one else is gonna help me, so why not? The owner of that shop deserved it anyway... Good enough for you?" Tilting her head to the side, the woman waited for the male's answer, her expression hardening, as if she were expecting a harsh answer.

“So I’ve been told.” Loki said in reply. “Though usually it’s followed by some threat or promise to of revenge, all of which have yet to be followed through.” He added as though discussing something mundane and unimportant. Over the centuries the God of Mischief had proved a fitting individual for the title. Chaos and mischief went hand and hand, and not from behind was Loki. He couldn’t remember if the name had come before or after he had started playing the trickster card, but that hardly mattered now.

As the woman came closer, Loki raised a brow. It was hard to tell what she was planning. Another outburst of anger? Fear? Worry? Midgardians could cycle through all these and more in the span of single moment. As it turned out, she was more concerned with his ability to catch up to her despite the structural obstacles around them. Loki eyed the buildings as she spoke, pointing out everything he would have needed to do in order to reach this point, and even then he would have likely missed her. He also didn’t miss how she had gotten closer, forcing him to look down on her smaller form.

“Normal is such a subjective term, though by your standards I suppose I don’t really follow them. But, if a world where monsters and men work side by side, and blind woman fade into nothing, is anything really normal?” He returned. Aside from his trickery and illusions, Loki was also a Liesmith, a Silver Tongue, the Prince of Lies. This had helped him slip out of situations in the past, turning someone’s words on themselves, or talking his way out of something, it was a skill he enjoyed. He knew he was avoiding questions, twisting them around as he saw fit. Endlessly frustrating for some, and irritating for others. Loki wondered which camp this woman would fall into, and if she would call him out for it.

Her explanation was a little unexpected, her softened expression only adding to the feeling. Loki truly didn’t care where or even why she had stolen the money. He was a god, what did he care for frivolous actions of mortals? And why had she confessed to him? Was he supposed to feel pity? To enact some sort of divine judgement and punishment? The woman’s expression told Loki she was expecting something.

“That would depend, what do you want me to do? Tell you you’re wrong, that you’ve committed a great sin? Call the authorities? Make a scene and act the innocent witness?” Loki laughed. “Hardly.” His own record was far from spotless.

He was curious about her situation though. Surely she was much too young to be out on the streets on her own, though Midgardian ages were hard to pinpoint. Where was her family? Why had they left a blind woman to fend for herself like this? Of course matters of this sort weren’t really Loki’s domain, or something he really knew how to get at. Emotions and the like were almost foreign to the god.

“Quite the predicament you’ve gotten yourself into all things considered. How is it someone such as yourself ended up here, alone?” He asked.

The pale woman stilled at his words. He could tell... Lasy grit her teeth trying her best not to show any emotion towards his words. Maybe she was over thinking it. It has happened before... Then she thought about his words. "Is anything really normal." He had a point, and the irony struck her funny bone. A soft chuckle irrupted from the woman as she smirked. "Yeah, I guess you're right... Good way to side step my question though, true none the less."

The laughter faded as soon as it arrived, and Lacy became serious once again. She really didn't expect his reaction to her admission to thievery. She expected him to tear her down like most people usually would, or like he said, turn her in to the authorities. Pursing her lips lightly, Lacy folded her arms. She felt and looked uncomfortable, and a tad bit confused. Then his next question really took Lacy by surprise. Her previously averted eyes shot up towards the stranger. And then there was that word... Alone. "I am not alone... I choose to be away from everyone else!" At the last of her sentence the woman looked away. Denial and avoidance were her specialties but of course Lacy wouldn't admit it.

Arms folded, Lacy noticed there was a void where the stack of cash once was.
"Where is my money?" Lacy whispered to herself, now frantically patting her sides down. Then patting the sole of her shoe on the ground hoping to find the stack. With a jolt, she stood up straight, her eyes glowing slightly as the full force of a vision struck her. The man from the shop was jogging down the sidewalk looking for his thief. Feeling the stack of cash under her food finally, Lacy kicked it to the side of the alleyway between a pile of garbage bags.

"Hey you two! Did you see anyone runnin' past here?!" The middle aged shop keep called out to them. There was a raspiness to his voice, probably from the many cigars Lacy had seen him smoke throughout the day. "Heeey... I know you. You're that little **** that hangs outside my shop all the time."

Just as the man was about to grab the woman's arm, Lacy hurried towards the stranger and reached for where she thought his arm was. Finding it, she linked her arm with his. "The hell is wrong with you? Haven't you seen a kind gentelman helping a blind girl to her nest destination?"

Loki was pleasantly surprised that instead of coming at him with accusations or threats she laughed. It was a nice change from the usual reactions to his mere presence, though there were some he couldn’t blame for such actions.

“It must be my lucky day when someone admits that I’m right.” Loki chuckled. He knew that he hadn’t answered her question, it was simply what he did. If Loki could get away with giving as little information about himself while gaining that of another, he would do so. Taking note of the change in her as the subject changed to her crime. It really meant nothing to him, but she was still under the impression that, though he may not be normal in the traditional sense, he was still there on Earth where such a thing was frowned upon. If only she truly knew whom she was dealing with.

As she answered his question, Loki easily recognized the lie for what it was. How many times had he chosen to use something similar? When all of Thor’s friends were playing in the training ring and he had instead holed himself away in his rooms, had he not chosen to do so? Or was it something else he would much rather not touch on let alone admit? One didn’t simply lie to the God of Lies.

“Yes, of course. And this has proven to work for you quite well.” He stopped short of rolling his eyes. As if on cue, the object of interest was discovered missing. Chuckling to himself as the woman frantically searched for it. “Your money?” Loki asked. “And here I was under the impression that you had stolen it.” The god said. He was a little shocked when she suddenly stood up straight, her glowing eyes a curious sight indeed. Silent, Loki watched this happened, watched her kick the money to the side, and then the man was there. Making a note to himself, Loki turned his head in the direction the man was coming from. Before he could say or do anything, the woman was there, linking her arm with his and spinning another lie.

A smile came to Loki’s face as she looked between her and this man.

“I do apologize sir, but you must be mistaken.” He spoke while using his magic to influence the man’s mind. He was an easy target, his mind like putty as Loki convinced him that he had never seen this woman before. “I did see someone running off down that alley though. Might be the one you’re after.” He pointed towards an alley that led away from where they stood.
