The flailing about of the girl reminded Allen of a fish on land, thrashing about as it gasped for the nonexistent water..
He had a slight urge to throw her back into the water and forget about everything, as he watched her.

Though he did not feel it so far, after she woke up, and seemed perfectly fine, he relaxed.
A slight anger crept up in his belly instead. Why exactly did she have to try to suicide in this lake? And at the time that was really sacred for him.

~ I dont think I should come here anymore.~ Allen thought matter of factly.
But while his mind understood, a big feeling of regret welled up in him, as he glanced back to the water for a second.

Since she randomly scooted around, seemingly afraid, he just sighed, and threw the towel in his hands loosely over her head.
He rummaged in his backpack, and pulled out a turned off flashlight, that he threw on the stack of his change of clothes next to her.
A bottle of water and some sandwiches, landed also on top. She would have his dinner, since he slept through the whole day.
Plus, after being in sacred water, it would be a long time until he ran out of energy.

"There are definitely better ways to solve problems, rather than suicide." Even with his dry tone of voice, he still could not avoid the underlying strictness and anger.

Then, with a fluent motion, he threw his backpack over his shoulder, picked up his own clothes and shoes and left the cave, not really caring if she saw his naked frame leaving or not.
He definitely needed a breath of fresh air, even though it was stormy outside. Plus, he would rather avoid any kind of screams of either shock or adoration .. or both, when she turned on the flashlight.

Avoiding a few fallen rocks, he entered another similiar small and dark cave, contemplating whether he should put his clothes back on or not. With a last, longing gaze at the water in the cave, he started to dress himself.

Marina gasped loudly when she felt something land on top of her head then quickly pulled it off. Whatever it was it was tossed nearby her. Not a good throw on her part. Catching her breath, after the sudden scare, she managed to use her hand to scan over the land frantically. Finding out it wasn’t smooth and it was pretty rocky below her; which was causing a few small scrapes on her legs and on her palm. Uncertain if she was still bleeding from the head or not. Her finger tips touched upon a soft towel. Something that was surprising and concerning at the same time.

She froze when she heard another voice in the cave. The noise echoing throughout the cave and somewhat shook her especially on a specific word. Suicide. Not that she never heard of it nor was she uneducated about the topic; however, Marina was sensitive about it after her parents passed. An incident that occurred recently. Her hands continued to search in the dark blindly as she decided to explain herself to the total stranger. “I have too much to live for to be considering ending my life.” Her hands eventually found a wrapped up sandwich in a plastic bag and a flashlight. “Actually, I fell in her by accident.” Confused her brows furrowed while she tested out the switch on the flashlight. It worked perfectly well.

Using the flashlight Marina used the faint light to look around the room, albeit she couldn’t feel as if she could get up at the moment. Her body was too sore at the moment and she shook slightly from the cold. After surveying her surroundings, she used the light to seeing if there was an exit out of here. Fortunately, there was. There was also a nude made there getting dressed. Her shoulders tensed, the flashlight loosen in her grip, and she slightly taken back from the appearance. “Umm…” The words slipped from her tongue while trying to maintain her focus. Oddly, enough she recalled something about his hair from today’s earlier event. Marina’s head tilted to one side inquisitive and her jaw still nearly hanging. “So can I ask you if you were the guy who saved me?” Even with a sore throat, she spoke loud enough for him to hear. Echoes that bounced off the wall.

"No, I was just casually taking a swim." dry and biting words framed Allens now fully dressed person. It was the truth, but with his tone it sounded like dripping sarcasm.
He did notice that she refuted much harsher than usually, but instead judged it as defensive offension.
"By the way, if you really dont want to commit suicide, I'd recommend you changing out of your clothes as soon as possible." he shrugged, while pointing next to the girl at the pile of clothes. Though, he still would not really believe her words.
~Who the hell would go mountain climbing at this time in this weather..? ~ Well, he wasnt sexist, but, as a girl, she should not be alone here.. she couldve met a worser fate than 'just' falling into his hands.
~There is also the thing, of how much she remembers...~ He scruitinized the female quickly. She did have hit her head, but if she mentioned anything suspicious, he should use his powers to 'refresh' her short time memory.
~It would be so good if I could easily delete her memory of this place, but sadly, the only thing i can casually do is delete her memories of myself. ~
The innate mermaid magic was, after all, for self protection. Their voices and their abilities granted them surivial, where other species would have been long enslaved or extinct.

Marina shook her head not agreeing with the tone he was giving her. Producing a huff under her breath with a mixture of frustration. At this time she was straighten her posture to test out if she could stand easily or not. Unfortunately, she had to take a few deep breathes since her pain was sharp this time around. Feeling the most discomfort on the side of her temple letting out a keen gasp. Forcing herself to sit up straight, so she can use both hands. One still holding the flashlight and the other gently tapped the source of the pain. Marina retrieved her fingers for viewing only to spot hot soaked blood dripping along with the salt water. “..No…” The word was caught in her throat as she murmured.

Gulped and her body shaken from fright. Although the gentlemen requested for her to change, she thought otherwise. “I don’t even know how bad my injuries, but…” She paused for a moment to slowly get up from the unsmooth territory. Her cheeks redden from the sudden cold that rose within the cave; however, it forced her to keep moving. “I gotta get back to my boat.”
Deep down she had a weird feeling about the green haired man. It was a blend of not trusting him. Mostly because he was avoiding too many questions she had and directly denied taking any action. Even though she was widely assuming this man was responsible saving her from the pool, the clues were too obvious. She was wet from head to toe (not knowing how much of her body was covered in blood or salt water), he was the only one here with her, and he was generous to her despite the attitude he was throwing at her. Giving her spear clothes, food, and a flashlight. “Why?” She thought to herself trying to figure out what he could be hiding. Not that it was any of her business, but was starting to consider he may commit something dangerous. Admittedly, she didn’t want to think about it.

Another feeling she had about him is, it was unsettling as well, was she going to need his help. At least eventually.

Marina swallowed hard realizing this while she advanced forward. Staggering in her steps. Still using the flashlight she picked up towel, the tossed clothes, and the packaged food then walked up to the green haired man. Placing his belongings on top of his backpack. “Thanks, but I gotta go.” She said, unable to stare him straight in eye, but appreciated his help anyways. A part of her knowing she can’t travel through the island’s jungle/forest by herself.

Looking past the man Marina eyed the cave’s entrance and noticed how windy it’s gotten. She shook her head once again out of the ridiculous of the situation she was in. Marina reached her hand inside her pocket searching for her phone. “****.” Her hand came out empty, so she shifted her body weight to face the moon pool again. Starting to think she needed to go back. Marina gazed upon the open body of water with such awe again, just like she did earlier that evening, then started walking back to the moon pool.

Allen almost snorted, observing the girl's reaction. ~Now shes acting all wary and shy? Talking about acting before thinking..oh well.~
He was contemplating if he should delete her memories now, and just get over with it, but something kept him from doing so.
He would then have the responsibility to knock her out and bring her back to her boat as well. Since he would have to go back anyway. But honestly, due to the upcoming storm he didnt feel like it. Even though rain water was not enough to make him transform if he did not want it, it took a lot of effort and magic power from him to prevent his transformation.

So, he just crossed his arms and did not move an inch, as he watched the girl leave.
"Talking about impolite..." he murmured. ~Thanks but I gotta go?~ How about a 'sorry to bother you' or something?
Plus, his efforts even went to waste.. going out in this weather, in ice cold clothes, was the same as a fish jumping on land, expecting to grow legs. Best case she would get pneumonia and land in a hospital for weeks.. humans were so fragile.

Speaking about fish, even those had more loyality than humans!
After regaining and refreshing most of his mermaid powers, his mermaid mentality was predominant. Humans.. descpiciable beings who backstabbed and sold each other for money.. towards other races and species, they were even more ruthless.
He noticed that he did take it personally that she disturbed his first sacred ritual since so many years.. Sighing, Allen sat crosslegged on the cold, but dry floor of his cave, trying to calm down.

He was neither a gentleman nor a chivalry knight. He wouldn't look away if somebody in front of him was in danger, but he wouldn't go so far as to meddle in others business. So, even though this girl was wasting his efforts of saving her, he had no intention to convince her otherwise. He had patched her up, and offered her a change of clothes. If she hadnt woken up he'd plainly changed them and brought her back, but since she refused to take up on his offer, so be it. It was his overly meddlement with humans, and his own loss.
If merpeople actually cared about life and death of a few humans, nobody would ever drown in the ocean anymore... He chuckled, then his face was again serious.

Sneering self deprecatingly, he looked up, in the quickly darkening sky. He had too much on his own plate, to be able to save the world.
Rummaging in his bag, he took out an army knife, and cut off the chunk of his hair, making it the same length as before. Stuffing the knife and the hair into his backpack - a mermaid's hair had lots of uses - he bound it to a ponytail and rummaged in his rucksack, regretfully looking for his cap.
~ Ah, right.. I lost it in the chase..~ he remembered.

Outside, the wind and rain picked up to a storm.

Not hearing the other male’s murmurs Marina cautiously stepped forward towards the oval shaped moon pool. Even without standing the outside, the storm was hinted because the tree branches were hitting against the outside the cave walls. Leaves were swaying back and forth within the wind’s power. Some of the leaves swift uncontrollably from the very top of the cave before landing inside. Either landing on the ground, along with the fallen rocks, or floating on top of the moon pool. The moon illuminating the forest among Mako's Island and it's sea. Including some aspect of the lagoon. An icy wind whips through the thick foliage sending a ribbon of chromaticity swirling throughout the night. Besides the water dripping and a little of her own breathing the evening was silent. While gazing upon the moon pool the beating of her heart is just barely audible. Oddly, enough the moon’s light beamed through the opening of the top cave and landing on top of the lagoon. Giving it a natural glitter. Staring upon a bluish lagoon Marina took this time using her eyes to search for her phone. Although it was damaged beyond repair, she needed to get it back. Of course, if Dr. Yates needed an explanation she can just say she dropped it while loading trash on her boat. “He’ll never know about this place.” She thought to herself. Already know he’ll want to know. He was pushy in some sense she realized.

Since the water was clear to see through, she easily found her phone on one of the many continental crust inside the lagoon. Marina dripped her feet first into the lagoon, one of her shoes missing, before slowly sliding her body back into the water. Surprisingly, the water embraced her with warmth. She couldn't help, but to glance around while holding her breath and one hand pitching her nose. Astonished by the water that seem to freeze time. The side of her lips produced tiny air bubbles that effortlessly floated above her. Her blonde hair danced around through the air bubbles, the colors, and the weightless. Staying focused Marina swam past the first layers of the crust until she found the oceanic crust that held her phone. She was able to glide through the water and reach her hand for it before resurfacing. Somehow a part of her wanted to stay in there longer; however, there was physical limits. A part of her wished she could hold her breath longer to experience this more often. It was such a fantasy to think about.

Although it felt like an amazing few hours that flew by when she in the lagoon, it was less than a minute when she came back for air. With the phone in hand she found her footing under one of the upper crust and control pulling her weight out of the lagoon. Gravity was setting, albeit it was slightly easier this time around. She noticed. Marina licked her lips only to be greeted with a distaste of salt. Arriving out of the bay wet. Unbeknownst to her the blood was gone and her wounds healed.

Outside the cave, Allen could hear the storm picking up. He could also feel the dampness on his skin, making his longing for water stronger, and his cautiousness higher. The copper smell, that still lingered in the cave, made him remember unwanted things. It felt familiar.
Sighing, he pulled out his phone, to look at the time. 22:38. No reception of course. But, it had the advantage of being water proof. At least thats what they said. But on certain depths where humans couldnt come to, even this phone would be damaged.
Shaking his head, he thought about what to do.
The female seemed to want to suicide again, as he could hear from the splashes. ~What idiot would go into the water with clothes? ~
It was like she didnt know anything about the sea...
She was just lucky, that the pool was full with spiritual energy.. not that humans would notice...he shrugged.

~But I wonder, if she is just dumb or simply fearless, to jump into the water again after almost dying... If she is not suicidal what then? ~

Shaking his head, he noticed a plastic card next to the spot she had been lying. It was similar to what he also had, though his card was a little bit different, since he was also a night shift worker at the marine zoo.
It seemed like she was one of the team members. A look at the printed name, and he was both wary and relaxed. ~One of Dr. Yates favourites, huh? ~ The older Professor liked bragging about his 'best students' be it official or inofficial ones.

"Damn.." he cursed his luck softly. No matter what, he could not let the old fox Yates know about this. He hadnt been able to explore the cave yet, if Yates and his team arrived, this would be a desaster!
Even though the Professor was one of his benefactors, and they had a friendly relationship, for some reason Allen knew that this would change, if the marine biologist found out, what was under his nose. A real mermaid.
For a miner that would be like finding a huge gold vein..

The storm was howling, and madly tugging at the rough rocks now, rain and debris, even a few stones from above falling into the lake.

Dripping wet Marina approached the edge of the cave with the strange fellow near the exit too. With her arms crossed over her uniformed chest she peaked outside to be eyeing the storm that was getting worst. She tighten the embrace around her to help avoid the cold, but found it useless. Not only the situation wasn’t helping especially with the company not being friendly. Marina slumped her shoulders as she backed herself more into the cave. Mentally, debating if she should stay or go. In a rational sense it was better to stay for her own safety. It was already bad enough she taken a fall. The accident could’ve killed her. She didn’t want to risk another death trap.

As unwelcoming the man was beside her and it bothered her to no end, Marina agreed that it was a smarter move to remain there. She prayed silently that the storm would pass quickly. Chewing on her lower lip to keep the hindering sigh still on her tongue. Marina walked back with her head slightly down and found a smooth large stone she was able to sit on. Leaning her back against the wall she found it bizarre how warm it was. Not knowing the scientific facts behind this she didn’t question it too much. Her mind would wonder about it later. Marina’s eyes glanced over at the green haired man who just stood not too far away from her. He was just merely across away from her. Studying his appearance before making her observation known to him verbally. A realization hitting her. Staring straight at him. “You were the student Dr. Yates was gloating about earlier today. ‘Brilliant, yet wild’ as he quoted. He was excited for me to meet you, but we never got to meet. Until now. Is this you Mr. Allen?”

A slight perplexed expression passed over Allens face, as he saw the human female walking back in. She was a walking mystery, getting out of the cave , into the water, back into the cave.. Females tended to get hysterical if you pointed out the irrationality of their actions, so he only raised a questioning eyebrow on her appearance, and stayed silent.
Since the storm was about to mutate in a thunderstorm, it was good that she chose the 'lesser evil' and got back into the cave.

He almost laughed out loud. Dr.Yates had quite a good but twisted sense of humor. Though, with introspection, his slightly impolite behaviour towards any buzzing females around him, would make him the 'wild' type, he guessed.
To her inquiry he just shrugged the shoulders and raised a corner of his mouth.

Now, he could remember Yates voice today morning, and also a female that seemed to look familiar. Allen had yet to figure out why Yates wanted to introduce the both of them...
Somehow, it raised suspicion.
Not in the mood to interpret too much into it, or be caught by Yates' mindgames, he flung the plastic card in his hands back to Marina, not caring if she caught it or not.
"...Miss Honor Student."
Pointing at the change of clothes and a towel still lying around, he shrugged the shoulders. "You can change or stay in the wet clothes. Just dont expect me to play the gentleman and go outside in this wet and cold weather."
With that said, he turned his head , seemingly disinterested in what she was going to do, and looked outside, towards the faster worsening storm.

***
"Sh*t, whats up with that f***ing storm, boys? Who said it would be a great night??! " Said one of the junkies, as they made their way through the island. Intoxicated, they made their waiy through the bushes, desoriented. "Look for something to cover from the rain, boys!"

***

Dr. Yates looked up. He seemed used to what unveiled infront of him, but still, some traces of shock framed his face. ".. McKenzie.." he whispered at the man appearing infront of him. "Why hello Yates. " The man infront of him took off his hat as he nonchalantly sat in the other chair, and poured himself a glass of red wine.
"How about we have a little talk about your little discovery this time..?"

Marina didn't bother getting up from her position to pick up the plastic card that was just thrown at her and managed to dodge it. She eyed the card until it hit the dirt ground. Watching the item flip onto the pebbles when it finally stopped moving. Her eyes switched back upon Allen, still unpleased with his attitude, and shook her head. Disappointed by the choice Dr. Yates wanted for her to meet. Being stubborn in a situation that wasn't easy to be friendly in and was losing patience for it. However, to maintain her sanity and rational thinking Marina took a deep breath. Breathing through her nose and kept her mouth shut as she stood up. Using her hands to dust off the dirt and small rocks that collected on her wet legs. "Alright." The words were simple and it was in an attempt to keep it somewhat formal if the man in the room wasn't going to consider being a gentleman.

Instead of waiting for the storm to settle Marina started walking around the cave, scavenging for any type of wood, or anything else that can be useful. Fortunately, she was getting comfortable in the damped skin. At least it was something optimistic to think about. While picking up pieces of hay and checking if the pinecones, in the cave, are dry or not. Collecting the following objects such as grass and weed, plants that grow in between cracks of inside the cave, dry leaves that were blown in earlier, and pine pitches. Once the short, yet necessary items were collected Marina placed the stuff on the ground and begin to set up. Organizing the stones in a circle then setting up the pieces of stick and other stuff pyramid style. Placing the driest pinecone in the center. After arranging everything, Marina used one hand to search through her pocket. Pulling out a pocket knife that has the uniform's logo on the tip. She placed one of the mini knives on lower part of her shorts and cut the extra layer. The uniform given to her was large on her anyways. Then carefully displayed the extra fabric on the floor. A gust of wind blown in, but she managed to catch it before it blew away.

She managed to disconnect one of the other nail filers, that was one of the tools with it, and placed it on top of the other mini knife. Using the stealth metal to grind against the material until it created some sparks on the fabric. Causing a small fire. Marina picked up the ends of the fabric and threw it to the pit. The fire grew from there, even with the slight wind blowing in. The fire pit was deep enough into the cave where the storm couldn't catch it.

With a relieving smile she sat down by the fire, proud of her small accomplishment, and placed the rest of the left over nature items beside her. Ready to maintain the fire in a robust form. Marina's hands rise close to the fire to warm up, but not enough to burn herself. "You can join me if you want." She said to Allen. Greyish smoke escaping from the ceiling above with hole on top.

Even with devils and gods themselves, nothing could make Allen go towards this makeshift fire. Instead he turned his nose into the wind, trying to escape from the nauseating smell of smoldering half wet twigs and grass. Humans tended to really love fire. He was split opinion about it. It was good in an oven or a grill, but open fire was something he would try to instinctively avoid.
He didnt need temperature as long as he was not frozen. Even his human body usually functioned with temperature normal humans would die at.
Resisting the urge to wet a handkerchief and put it over his nose he ignored the foolish girl. Fire would attract... he let out a wry smile... it had attracted insects. Well, human insects, he thought cruelly, as his ears twitched and his eyes sverwed to the cave entrance where he came from. Two half walking half crawling males tumbled inside. Followed by another three.
"Huh.. what do we have here, boyssss..." they seemed half drunk half stoned as they saw Allen leaning against the stone wall opposite of them. The half dark half light atmosphere, coupled with the natural air of the male made all of the insane bastards hallucinate as soon as they saw him.
"Look at this, its a total babe! ... So hot, i want a bite~" the two in the front half walked half crawled towards Allen.
" Wow, youre right man..." *whistling*
"hey, guys.. wait..thats a guy.... " one of them wasnt as stoned as the others, and seemingly realized what was going on, as he looked at Allen in confusion -- then ...
"Scram."
Allen muttered the word in a special tone of velvet voice, minimizing his magic.
It was a low word, but it echoed through the cave, producing airwaves and a menacing atmosphere. The two in the front shuddered softly, kneeled, before crawling towards him slowly, like willing slaves. The three behind them were just slightly better off, as their knees did not go soft from the echo. But even they shuddered significantly.
Resisting the urge to facepalm, Allen sighed.
So far the female hadnt caught on what was going on, but wasnt it just a matter of time?
He had refrained from using too much magic. But it seems, the echo amplified the special effects so...
Even the clear eyed guys eyes were glazed over now. They approached slowly, lulling and drooling a little. The drugs and alcohol made them very easy targets. It was both good and bad.

~ But. If they did not have any weak or perverted minds, the voice would not work on them. At least not this minuscule amount. ~ he thought, slightly disgusted. Finally all of the group were closing in towards him.
If it wasnt for the female watching he would long have made mincemeat out of them.
"Hey~~ Beauty~~ Youre alone, huh?"
" Dont be shy ~ "
"Arent you lonely?~"
" Come play with us a little, would you?" four out of five of the guys were already making their moves, while drowning in their delusions and perverted imaginations.
They even ignored each other, much less ignoring the large campfire and Marina as well, as if they didnt exist, trying to shove the others out of their way as they were gathering around Allen with sparkling eyes.
Only his cold atmosphere made them refrain from reaching out their hands to indecently touch him.
The fifth was still dazed from the voice, but as he just got more clearheaded, Allens eyes seemed to suck him in and left him again in a daze. Seemingly the one most courageous, he stretched a hand out, trying to grab one of Allens green locks in wonder....

Releasing a sudden aura of danger from his body as the hand almost reached him, slowly, the merman looked into each of the five's eyes for a whole of three seconds, and in a silent daze all of them were standing frozen around him, nobody moved anymore, their hands and expressions frozen stiff.
Dazedly standing around Allen for a minute, they just turned around, and orderly fainted next to each other, rolling to the other side of the cave.

" Tsk. "The merman let out a frustrated sigh.
Their nauseating breath of alcohol almost made him gag... and of course, this was not the end, because Allen heard some more little stones rolling down the entrance, indicating that more people will come soon. His hands clenched, itching to beat somebody up, even though he was not a thug.
But his rage towards her had calmed down significantly. Even if she didnt come today, it seemed he did not have any destiny with this sacred spot.
The hypnosis he put the guys under, would not last forever after all. But if possible, he did not want to dirty his own hands and hoped the drugs and alcohol would last them until next morning.
Even so, after they left this place, their memory would be hazy...he hoped they never find this dwelling again. Just by being here they had violated and desecrated this spot even more so than the female had done.

***

"What discovery? The Island?" Yates kept his voice monotone and bored, as he controlled himself back to calmness from the surprise. "Sadly it was majorly a disappointment..."
"Ahahaha!" The laugh made Yates' have goosebumps all over his body. "Cunning old fox, of course the Island is a disappointment, without the inhabitants .. right? " McKenzie smirked. "Your students are quite an interesting bunch, you know..."
A slight expression overshadowed Yates eyes for a moment before he focussed his eyes on the male opposing him. "They are all very talented. " he mentioned with a little smile.
"Especially, her right? " The deep voice made Yates flinch significantly this time.
***
"Damn, sis, where did the boys disappear to? Its cold and raining..." gritting their teeth another few juveniles, this time girls were making their way through the forest.

Marina watched as Allen took his leave. Not knowing rather or not he was to come back or not she stayed focus upon getting warmer and keeping the fire alive. While Allen took his leave, she noticed instantly that the storm outside roared. Fortunately, not much of the wind found it's way inside the cave and it caused much of the noise to irrupt inside the cave. Her gaze hover over to the few entrances/exits before she moved towards the other part of the main cave. In search of wood pieces and anything else that can feed the fire.
Time seem to hold still as she waited for the storm to pass, and yet the time did when the fire grew robust when feed with the proper foods. Marina took this time to spread open the stones that circled the fire along with the growing fire. At this point she could feel her hair dry up along with the rest of her clothing and body. She found a rubber band, around one of her wrist, and tied up her long blonde hair into a loose top bun. Since the storm outside was creating much of the sound and the fire cracked it's own snaps and crackles, the rest of the surrounding area was soundless at this point.
