An enormous structure, drifting through the nothingness of space. Those that built it long gone, and those that would prey on it sharing the same inevitable fate. All of the greater starts have long since burned themselves out, and even the lesser ones are slowly dying. They are the vestiges of a dying universe. This fate was inevitable, for all things must one day end.
The halls of genesis station ring hollow. All is asleep, even the automated servitors for the inhabitants. And then, a screen springs to life.
TIME LOCK DISENGAGED. ENGAGING SLEEPER AWAKENING PROCEDURE. ALL SYSTEMS NOMINAL.
With a hum, great machines in the core of the station spring to life. They are energy generators, generally used to power machinery. But in this case, their purpose is a different one. A tangle of wires connects them to two pods, both containing a most curious life-form. The denizens of genesis station awaken from their ageless slumber.
The first to wake is an eclectic mind. His name is Kaotis Sequentus.Born of a world of freedom and anarchy, he has seen how order can collapse on itself despite the best of intentions, and has modeled his behaviour opposite to it as a consequence. Even in his sleep, his body is at the peak of its physical condition. As it has always been, and as it will always remain. He rises from his pod. His pristine body bare and unclothed. In the moments that follow, he gets his bearings. He lets out a single great yawn. And then he speaks, to no one in particular. "Yeesh, how long was I asleep"
He claps his hands shortly and loudly. It is a signal the stations robotic servitors know all too well. With silent humming, they bring ihm clothing. Randomly selected, as had been instructed. the selection of the day is a balck trenchcoat with golden inlays at the shoulders, along with a plain white shirt and brown pants. The man quickly covers his exposed skin, and then turns to inspect his surroundings more. He notices his soon-to-be companion in this station to still be asleep. His first impulse is to poke the glass in an ill-advised attempt to 'flush her out.' To the advice of the servitors however, he dallies on over to the nearby console. A quick reading shows everything to be normal. Perhaps miss grumpy in there simply needs some more time to get out of bed.
With quick instructions, the servitors leave the rather boring uniform of the heavy sleeper readied. And with that, Kaotis sets out to see whether the stations architects had calculated their awakening correctly. It is only a short walk to the nearest viewing deck, and the sight outside would be rather shocking had Kaotis not been prepared for it. Space had grown dark in its decay. The brilliant nebulae and stars that had once dotted the sky had all but died out, only one or two weak pinpricks of light remained. Most would probably not even remain until the next century or so. But maybe a stubborn few would remain.
To an unprepared mind, the scene would speak of a crushing emptiness, of an ennui of knowing to be one of the few things that truly existed in a sense. To Kaotis's mind however, it was a wide expanse of oppurtunity. He would mold this empty expanse into a form he wished it to be. The thought excited him greatly, then however, his thoughts were interrupted by the beeping of one of the servitors. "What is it?" He said in a rather annoyed voice. The servitor communicated in its strange beeping language that the other inhabitant was waking up. Kaotis returned to the sleepers bay to greet the woman that was to be his partner in the creation of this new existence.
