This private role play between the wonderful AWritersLove and myself, is related to our group RP: Once Upon a Time.
The purpose of this private one-on-one is to enrich the history of these two characters as they encounter one another for the first time, for OuAT RP purposes.

The sun came up upon the left giving way to the mist and out of the sea a ship has come, flying the shamrock flag. ''Land! Land ho!'' A crew man cried out joyfully from above and began to dance. Suddenly embarrassed, he glanced down at his Captain and apologized, remembering his assignment. That did not leave the other ten members of the crew without a cheer or two, for they all laughed and drank beer as the ship sailed towards the shores of a Kingdom known as Arendelle. ''Belay there, mates. This is no time for dancing or drinking beer now. Prepare to weight the anchors!'' The Captain shook his head and chuckled and through the telescope he studied the sightings of the shores and the port. Guards in blue and silver attires rode their horses, behind them flew flags of the land. Golden-yellow crocuses - a symbol of rebirth and spring - with three petals and two leaves appeared on each of them flags. These crocuses were emblazoned upon a split background featuring purple on the left and green on the right. The view was crowded, colorful and the Captain joyed in the scenery. Anything was better than the last six months they sailed, lost at sea. They were lucky to have had enough supply of food and beer to last them a year, but men he lost as they succumbed to fever and other unpleasant deceases.

The Kingdom – small and ruled by a monarch - was located on a fjord, making it a viable trading center. Its human population was densely concentrated within the castle perimeter, although there were minor human activity in the forests surrounding the town. There were also non-human populations, such as animals in the forest and trolls in the Valley of the Living Rock. In addition to the fjord and forest area, Arendelle was also in the vicinity of mountains, the most prominent being the imposing North Mountain. The kingdom was subject to the succession of seasons, having both warm summers and frigid winters. In the winter, there was a noticeable decrease in plant life and animal activity. However, in the summer, Arendelle's flora flourishes, with lush vegetation covering the cliff sides and flowers growing plentifully. Arendelle was also in a position that is conducive for observing the aurora boreali.

Six months prior to their arrival to Arendelle, leaving Ireland they set out sail on a ship full of thirty happy seamen. They sailed towards Norway only to be caught up in a terrible storm which took them to a world unknown to mankind. A world where magic was believed by all of the inhabitants and fairy tales had lives of their own. From one land to another they sought guidance but no local or vagabond seemed to know how to help these seamen find their way home. They continued their sail, until once again they were blown-off course and plunging deeper and deeper into the unknown, they reached an island. The inhabitants greeted the sailors with food and water. Julian and his men remained for thirty days to regain physical strength and mental power.

''Rumpelstiltskin.'' The witchdoctor of the island one day whispered to Julian. ''If you wish to find your way back home, find Rumplestiltskin. They call him the Dark One. He would make any of your wishes come true, with one price to pay.''

''How do I find this man?'' Julian asked.

''You mean this beast, for he is no man. Sail north for twenty-nine days. You will chance upon a maritime realm where people clothed themselves in silver and blue and their flags of purple and green swayed the golden crocuses. Arendelle, they named their home. From there, Ancient Mariner, seek your way to Misthaven. Its citizens call it the Enchanted Forest...'' And the Witchdoctor spoke the directions to Julian. Once that was done, he immediately set sails to the North.

One week later after arrival...
__________________________

A thumb came to brush across Julian's lips as he walked around the Marketplace destined for traders and merchants alike. As he made his way towards the stables to buy a ride, the merry man marveled at what the market had to offer and his breath was caught in his throat as he exclaimed, ''By the powers!'' He found himself pausing to catch his breath and silently thanked God that he was still alive. Of all the strange things, the angels and sea monsters; the ghostly ships and walking-dead buccaneers, and of all the supernatural sensations his eyes had seen during his voyages with his crew, the man has always felt as though his own people from his own world will never understand or believe the truth ingrained in his tales. And so the man kept a journal close to his heart. On white paper he inked the memories of the marvels he had seen in the life he spent at sea.

The task remained, and so he took himself towards the woods and on a grandiose journey he rode his black stallion for five hours until the sun faded into the horizon. He silently tried to recall the directions of the Witchdoctor which were supposed to lead him to the Dark One – Rumpelstiltskin – as he sat camp near a sparkling river to sooth his thirst and sleep for the evening. The man lit a lamp and placed it on the grass. He leaned back against the tree and began to write in his journal.

Julian ran a hand through his light brown hair and inhaled deeply as he glanced briefly up at the starry heaven. His other hand sat the diary aside and the man's grey eyes absent-mindlessly began to survey the tiny orbs of light, twinkling between the trees. Suddenly, a noise, a cry; a laughter or a scream alerted him and he found himself quickly rising to his feet. ''Who is out there? Show yourself.'' He called out bravely, unsheathing his longsword. He was not imagining things. He was certain he heard something, out there in the woods.

Cade...shouldn't you be getting dressed for the court? Philly said. Cadelle turned her blue eyes to the side, glancing at her head maid. The worn looks on her face have given Cade warmth of many smiles and support. Now, there was worry. These past couple of weeks, Cade had been feeling a little distant. Staring out at the sea, catching glimpses of something in the shadows off of Arendelle's shores. From her room, she could see ocean for thousands upon thousands of miles ahead over the horizon, but only for a second would her eyes flash and there would be something unusual. Strange. Lightening that did not touch the water. Or even a dark cloud that would arise and suddenly there would be heavier waves against the land she called home. Her eyes fluttered for a moment as she glanced back at the maid who came closer, resting a hand on her shoulder. Is there something that is bothering you dear? For a moment, Cade felt confident to confide in the woman, but something inside told her not to. At the touch, she felt vulnerable to the woman. Hard times had touched her life. It all came rushing back as if she was living the emotions from the beginning. At least the ones that haunted her most. Right now, the woman was scared for something, complete and utter worry had touched over her. Cade removed herself from under the woman's hand and smiled at her. I am just peachy. She hoped the woman would believe her in the time being. Now it was time to get ready for the court.

Soon, a corset surrounded her waist, pulling her into a position where it was hard to breathe. The strings had been chafing her back. The lace cutting into her skin every time she moved her left arm. Reminding herself of worse things happening in the world, she simply smiled, glancing at her father as she joined him inside. On his face, she could see the same happy lines surrounding his mouth and some his forehead from many nights thinking of ways to keep Arendelle at peace. Good morning, father. She said lightly. He tapped her hand on his arm as she surrounded herself closely to him. How was your morning, darling? Cade felt his emotion there for a moment until he removed his hand, leaving her skin only touching his clothing. There, she could feel emotion lightly, but it was something she could ignore. Skin to skin contact was the only part of her life that she did not looking forward to. A smile pulled at the corner of her face.Interesting. I think we should be having visitors soon. She said, having a feeling tight in her gut. She always knew how the winds changed when she stood outside, there was something coming. It always changed when ships had come to shore. Some she even knew from the moment she would see sails.

Her father, hearing from his daughter so concerned, was not able to respond as her sister came into the room, demanding attention. A smile had come upon her lips as she came closer to Cade and their father.I have seen visitors on the shore. Their sails were delightful, Father. A yellow color, my favorite. Cade simply dismissed herself from the discussion, going to find the exit before anyone would notice. It was court that they had every week. Some would applaud her for trying to escape and being successful in the process. Walking through the halls, she finally found the coat room. Grabbing a cloak, she stuffed it over her arm and headed back to her room where her maids were. Are you not joining court today? One had asked. With a simple shake of her head, she stepped away from them. I am not feeling that well. The stuffiness and old men's hair has given me a headache. They nodded and helped her get out of her dress. There, she could finally breathe again. Finding a different dress, one that she could actually move in, she slipped on her shoes and headed toward the door, grabbing the cloak. Her maids glanced at one another before letting the girl leave as she pleased. She's gone for another 'walk'. They giggled at one another as she had left the room. Cade continued down the hall, finding the back exit that would lead her to the gardens. The maze of a garden left everyone clueless. She knew every nick and cranny, every exit homemade and manufactured. She smiled, finding her one place out as she came into the forest.

Standing there for a moment, she paused, seeing the dark trees, captured with such different colors of green. Thick trunks protected the view inside. Thinking about it too long would keep her from seeing what was inside. She ran inside with a chuckle as she started walking. The paths led to nowhere. Some to trees that had been etched with hearts and letters. A peek of a smile appeared on her lips. She could only wish she could find a love to do something so simple with. Shaking her head, she ran her fingers through her red hair, messing with the ends as she walked, paying attention to either side of her until she heard etching, but then she continued on her way. She didn't return for a while. Some were worried, others were just curious as to what the princess was up to. Even some had decided to wander off to find the princess for a imaginary reward. Cade, herself had only fallen asleep near one of the trees after her journey. She knew her way back. She hadn't ventured far, but she was so entranced with the scenery, she felt the need to look at everything.

Waking up, seeing the darkness and the moonlight above her, she felt a little worry come over her. Pushing herself up from the ground, she walked around, trying to find her way, but then as she continued to walk, she heard writing against paper. Simple to the sound of a quill. She lifted her eyes, soon she was about to come into view when she tripped over a root, causing a scream to echo from her lips as she fell to the ground, feeling the grass harsh against her hands. She froze though. A voice had called her to show herself. Who was there? Who was there at this time of night? Were these people that lived in the forest? She had met some before, but they hated the castle...Most for her father. Pressing her lips together, she took in a deep gulp of air as she again pushed herself up from the ground, wiping off her skirts from the dirt. She wasn't sure who was there, and she hoped that she wasn't about to be captured...

Who is there? She asked, coming out of the shadows. She didn't see him at first, but then when she finally looked around, she saw the man. A journal in his hand and a writing utensil in the other. With his clothing, he looked like the sailor. Perhaps it was the sailors that her sister had been talking about the feelings that she had been having. This was the visitor. She watched him carefully, not to get too close. Who are you? She said worriedly. She held tightly to her skirts as she stayed close to the edge of the clearing they had been in. She could hear the sounds of frogs from a nearby brook just around the corner. She could hear crickets chirping and she was sure there were other things in this forest.

Why are you out here all alone? She motioned toward the journal. Are you a writer? She asked. He wasn't from around here. She knew that for a fact. He had looks of somewhere different. Somewhere she had never been before. Clothing didn't look similar to ones that men wore...Where was he from?

"Who is there?"

Julian's back straightened as he heard the voice, sweet as honey-dew, echoing the same words he asked. He cocked his head to the side and squinted his eyes as though trying to pierce through the surrounding darkness to make a form out of the entity which began to present itself before him. Oh! Dream of joy! He thought sarcastically and rolled his eyes. At first, the man wondered if she was a forest witch like those he heard of back in his world, but as he gave her another study, he wondered if she was not like one of them ghosts he encountered during his voyages, perhaps a fairy, that sounded even better. One step backwards the man made as the woman's form advanced into the clearing where the man stood. The warm light from the candle lamp now bathed his silhouette with its light. First, he noticed the movements of her eyes as they shifted between his diary and his sword in the other hand.

"Who are you? Why are you out here all alone?" She motioned toward the journal. "Are you a writer?"

To speak something, his lips the bright-eyed one parted, but instead, he found himself hesitantly studying the feminine creature. The second question that came across his mind was that, if this woman was human then what was she doing at an eight hour walk away from the closest town to their current location in the Kingdom. The way she was dressed, he noted, spoke of a woman who was perhaps very wealthy. Was she lost? Her hands held tightly to her skirts and she seemed worried. Julian glanced at his sword and put it back in its leather sheath before tightening his belt.

An hour ago he had stripped himself off his long teal colored frock coat and double-breasted beige west-coat and has remained since in his cream-white shirt and fall front light-brown breeches that had silver buttons and ties at the knees. Back in his homeland, a man walking around in public without a vest or a coat would be the equivalent in other places of traipsing about in an underwear. Although he stood tall and sharp, he did not look anything close to the unassailable style and the sensibility of the fashion approach he had over the way he dressed when on ground duties. In reality, the red sash which hung from around his waist must have made him look more like some sea pirate than the actual respectable sailor that he was.

The gentle touch of a fair breeze raised the back of his short hair, and the sounds of the frogs and crickets brought back the man to reality. The man ignored the buzzing distraction of one dragonfly to his left as a hand curved into a ball, bring it to rest against the side of his waist. He achieved a formal bow before the woman. He shifted his frame into another erect posture and eyed the woman with curiosity.

“Madam, I am not a writer. I am an outsider, a traveler to be precise. I am on my way to Misthaven. Others call it the Enchanted Forest.” He decided not to give the female any more details and instead, ''For the dear God who loveth us, I desperate now ask the same of you. What is a lady doing out here alone at such dark hours of the night? Isn't she not scared?” Julian drew his eyes away from her for a brief moment as his lips curved into a smile. When he glanced at the mystery guest once more, eyes never fluttering, he slowly closed their distances to offer her a clean white handkerchief in case the female needed it to wipe out the stain of dirt he noticed on the side of her face.

Indeed, he was a very visual being.

Moonlight above them. Trees whistling in the breeze. Crickets chirping all around them. Owls hooting in their nests, and little scavengers all over the ground, searching for something to eat. It was a very live night and she had not yet before been apart of it. If it weren't for the strange man in uniform that she was not used to, she would actually be diving into the wonders of the night time forest. Instead, she was faced with questions, and interpretations that had been wrong. Her eyes followed over his clothing. Yes...He matched the traveler type, but she still...she still thought that things weren't the same. She had seen plenty of males traveling from over seas. She had seen a million and one, but still...this million and two man stood there. The sword glimmered in the moonlight before he had put it away, making it disappear into it's sheath. She simply pressed her lips together, relieved the man had put away the sharp object. One that she could not fight back against since she had no weapon on her.

She was already scowling at herself for the lack of protection on her part.

Her eyes followed him as he bowed to her. She wasn't of an important name, but still, she felt rather pleased she had received such a notion. Curtsying to give the same respect, she bowed her head for a moment before she lifted her eyes to his when he finally parted his lips to give her an answer to her question. Speaking of the traveler, an outsider, he had hit her thought right on the mark. Sharp and well rounded did his words sound. It was lovely to her ears. She glanced back toward the way that she had come, her hand still tight on her skirts until she glanced back and the man was closing the distance between them, handing her a handkerchief. She touched her face in response, feeling a little bit foolish when felt the rough substance of dirt on her cheek. Wiping it off quickly with her hand, she shook her head. I'd rather not dirty your handkerchief, but I do thank you for the gesture. She said properly. Hoping that the dirt was from her face, she moved on to other questions that he had asked her.

For a man of strange wear, I suppose it would be normal to go to Misthaven. She knew of the place, but unknowing of where it location lie within the forest. She wasn't allowed here, since she always had to come in secret just to get away from the chaos of it all. Misthaven is not spoken of here rather often. People shy away from it. Darkness lies around there. Why is it that you seek such a place? She was curious as to why the man had wanted to know her background and knowledge of the forest, when she wasn't aware of his purpose. Hearing his comment about a lady being out so late, mostly because she didn't have an escort, the woman's face began to twist. What is a man without his crew at this time of night? She shouldn't probably be back talking such a man, but she was not sure of his reasoning here. Are you apart of the ship that had come in? One with the delightfully colored sails? She wanted to know more about the outside world, of the man's knowledge of someone who had traveled great lengths. She hadn't been far from her home, a shame for soul who was so curious of the world.

Not all women have to be frightened of what lies in the night... She whispered. Even though the forest was alive, she still didn't let it frighten her. Quickly dismissing her disappointment of his question, a feeling of excitement came over her emotions. What is your name, good sir?

The man gave the young woman a nod when she decided she could do without the handkerchief. Strange wear, she said? Julian glanced down at himself and one corner of his lips curved up, bringing his lips into a smirk. As he was about to say something, the female kept speaking, asking one question after another. Her comment about himself not being with his crew made the man's left brow arch, her attitude eliciting a smile from him as he glanced down at his booted feet. He changed the angle of his position so that he was able to shift his eyes from between the woman and his belongings near the dark horse.

“Not all women have to be frightened of what lies in the night...”

In response to the words the female whispered, Julian glanced at her out of the corner of his eyes and his smile faded away. He regarded her facial expressions with interest as they flourished into an emotion of excitement. The excitement glowing on her face was like a forest fire. He could not only sense it but smell it too. The sight was innocent and pure. Not manufactured or faked like most women in the bourgeoisie milieu where the man hailed from. Julian found himself shaking his head and approaching the woman again with a curiosity equaling to hers, but one less showing in his eyes. “You, m'lady, do ask many questions to a man who is but a complete stranger to you. While the latter is true, please do consider yourself to be in a safe company.” Julian assured her while commenting amusingly. He eyed the woman up and down couple of times right before he pulled away, creating a large distance between the two.

Of all the strange things he saw, he still sensed no danger emanating from the woman. She must be who she was presenting herself as, a human being. Not a witch, not some shape-shifting werewolf or a bloodsucking night mare. His immense knowledge in the unknown could not fail him now, unless this woman was 'something' he had yet to encounter. If she needed his name though, she will have to answer some of his questions too. Give and receive. The Irish man was not very generous when it came to sharing information with strangers. “Over here, Miss. Curiosity is a lust of the mind and the wick in the candle of learning, and I will not deny you the answers you seek.” Julian addressed her enthusiastically as he mentioned downwards with his hand towards the spot he inhabited with his frame. The brief motion of his hand was an invitation to the woman to come join him at a spot near the lamp and the large tree for comfort, and under the moonshine, glimmering white high above. He placed his diary back inside his travel bag and pulled out a secondary green wool blanket which he laid hurriedly on the grass for the woman. It was of course up to her to decide if she wished to join him or not.

“I have come from a very, very distant place. Do you wish to sit for a while and listen? That was my ship indeed. You mentioned that my outfit was strange to you and how it fits Misthaven, why is that? I am entirely dependent on the directions i have been given to reach the Enchanted Forest,” Julian chuckled as he rose again to his feet and quested to snap dead branches from the trees in proximity while not distancing himself far away from the lady. “-be it dark treacherous place or not, Miss, I shall get there and I cannot shy away from its darkness. My motivation is passionately forged.” Julian's loneliness away from his men lead him to be a little bit more chattier than how he usually carried himself in the company of women. Arrogant yet forthright about his approaches. Tonight, his mind might have been softened by the gentle presence of the female whose luxurious locks were as red as melted ruby.

Fuel, heat; oxygen and patience and that was all he needed to light a fire. The man fell slowly to his knees and white linen sleeves he rolled up. His desire-driven thoughts of the voyage to come ravished his mind as he busied himself with making a fire for his strange guest, and himself. “What about you? Why are you alone out here? Since you have seen my ship back at the port, then I suspect that you are not lost. Is Arendelle your home?” He momentarily paused, grey-blue irises moved to give a sideways glance at the female while lips pursed slightly to blow gently on the bundle.

The man was strange. Stranger than others that she had met before. Standing there in the chill of the night with a person that was unfamiliar, she felt oddly comfortable. In honesty, it might have been the excitement of that ship being his own and he having plenty of stories of the world around them. She was always interested in listening to the stories of people who traveled since she lacked in that department. Watching him carefully, he had looked down at his own clothing at her response. The movement had made the woman smile as she touched her fingers to her lips for a moment in which she studied him as he had done the same. The man had a thing for looking women up and down quite a bit. Was she just as strange? She glanced down at her skirts, seeing the dirt from when she had fallen and quickly, she wiped herself off, feeling blood come to the surface of her cheeks. Her body got hot and she straightened up after she was sure that she was clean enough again and glancing up, he had finally responded to her question.

Just listening to the man, he was certainly one to respond so soundly. The more he spoke, the more that she couldn't figure out the accent that hung on to his words. He had separated himself from her as he stared at her again. What was with the man looking at her? "One might call me curious." She shrugged her shoulders and glanced over her shoulder. She could see the light of the castle through the thick trunks, but it was tiny. How far had she truly walked? Pulling her attention back to the man, her brow began to arch. "I wouldn't dare come at me, my scream is actually pretty shocking at it's volume." She said for a moment, hoping that would turn away the man from trying to hurt her, but as she looked at him, he had a kind look in his eyes. The kind of look that said that he wouldn't harm her...at least not yet. She had to keep herself at alert, paying attention to every detail. Though, why would he look at her in such a way to make her think that he was sizing her to the occasion that she might come at him?

The man parted his lips again and it was simply perfect. She wouldn't say such a thing, she had more dignity than give too much to a man in conversation. Her eyes lifted to his though as he said that he would answers to her questions. But still, he had not given her his name. Frustrating man, he was! As he started setting up a little blanket, a smile pulled at the corner of her lips. He seemed excited now. Excited to give news and stories of the places that he had seen. Now, it was time for her to compare notes to the books that she had read in their immense library. This was going to be fun. She sat down beside him and joined him on the green blanket, her eyes catching attention of the journal set to the side. She wasn't sitting too close, but she wasn't too far away. A comfortable distance for the maiden with a man that she hardly knew. Oh, the things that her father would say...

Turning her attention back to the man, she settled her hands in her lap and she laced her fingers together. Never had a man asked her to sit down with her on a blanket. It was all about the formality of the court...Courting for superficial men that all did the same thing...She could only sigh at the thought, but instead, she simply felt grateful that this experience was not the same. Though, the man wasn't courting her. How foolish of her to think such a thing! "I didn't particularly mean that your clothes would fit in Misthaven, I am just connecting dots in relation to your strange origins and your now desired destination. The town is always superstitious to even the thought of Misthaven. They say someone very dark lives there...someone no one should visit." Sitting there, even as he had gotten up, showing the intensity of his passion as he crushed the branches in his hands, she could only giggle. "Your destination might even cause your death! What is it that has gotten you so riled up to go and risk your life? With your knowledge from your trips on the sea, I'm pretty sure that whatever you are desiring, it is certainly not in Misthaven. I would have to call you ridiculous or even crazy for even considering heading in the darkest direction of the forest." She threw her hands up in the air as she motioned toward the forest around them. "We are practically breaking law by sitting in this very spot. Being in the forest had been forbidden by the king. He spoke of it's oddness, even though I have not seen it from the many a time I have been out here."

Now...the man that had said she was one to ask a lot of questions, he seemed to come at her like the King's Fool. Doing so many things at once, just like his words coming from his lips in such a motion. Her brow arched as a grin came across her lips. Coming from a man that had named me as the one asking so many questions. I will not answer another question until you give me your name! That's my only condition, then I will give you more of my reasoning for being here." Seriousness in her eyes and a smile on her lips, she would figure out this man's name.

"Coming from a man that had named me as the one asking so many questions. I will not answer another question until you give me your name! That's my only condition, then I will give you more of my reasoning for being here."

A smile, her words elicited from him and of contentment a spark glinted in his eyes. He was not expecting such a company, let alone someone who knew something about his destination. A stranger he was in a stranger land, yet the man was no stranger to recognizing the wise from the foolish. The difference between the two was that the fool always spoke because they have to say something, while the wise only spoke because they knew something, and this woman not only delighted his eyes, but she was wise and that delighted his understanding.

“Yes, we may be breaking the law sitting here, m'lady, but rules are made to be broken.” Julian winked at the Madam and turned his face to the fire he brought to life. “To answer you,” he sat in a more comfortable position across the female, the warm fire between the two, quietly roaring away. “I have traveled for the past six months lost at sea. I hail from a land where magic is almost non-existent. Ireland is my home, although, there are those who still celebrate the old ways, the ancient traditions, mystery and folk magic. Technology and the modernization of the world made humanity turn to science but the curious ones would still seek these old folks, these pagans. Some of them were special. We call them witches. Men and women would seek these gifted ones for fortune telling, or for healing spells, potency, luck.” Julian paused and shifted eyes of a storyteller to the female. “Even ... love. They truly believe that these magic spells could make one's heart slave to you, and for eternity.” He resumed to what he was doing only a moment ago, picking up a thin stick and slowly pocking the fire with it.

“Magic in our world is different. Simple to understand, easier to comprehend. In reality we did not come to trade, we are lost. We sat sail to Norway, a country very similar to Arendelle. It was bright day, waves still and gleaming. We then descended into the unknown. I have come to understand that our two worlds are very parallel to each other, but one cannot see the other. An island was then sighted. The inhabitants persuaded us to stay, rest and feed until we are ready to sail away. Their healer conveyed something to me. He believed that there was this man from Misthaven who detained a great knowledge of the unknown, that this man, or this beast as he described him, will be able to aid me in my journey home. My men beleaguered with emotions, this healer's words restored faith in them. Even though my men are very happy to be here,” Julian locked eyes with the woman, certainty and determination enlarging the pupils of his greys. “-I must get to the enchanted forest for them, even if they refuse to follow me back home I would have at least tried to get these men back to their wives and children. I know that deep down, my men have settled for this life, here in Arendelle, because this is all they got, perhaps they fear to be lost again or end up ... dead, like the others. A funeral pile.” A sad sigh escaped the man's lips, jaw clenched and eyes wondered up to the sky. His mouth grew dry and his palms suddenly began to sweat. He passed them through his long front locks and looked away.

Momentarily distracted by a sweet scent nearby, Julian got up on his feet and advanced towards the woody climbing vines a few feet away. He crouched and gathered some of the flowers in his hands before returning to sit by the woman. This time on the same blanket where she was seated. “I was born in a noble family, Duke of my peerage. His Grace, my father, was against the idea of me pursuing my dreams and so, young I fled towards my freedom, away from the banner and the field. I am not only a sailor but I am also a man of science. I am very certain that our worlds are not too different than one another.” An intelligent smirk played on his lips as he glanced at the female and hesitantly touched her left hand. In his world and era, it was considered unseemly to allow a man's skin to touch a woman without wearing gloves, but giving it a second thought, he took her hand in his to place a cluster of yellow and white bell-shaped flowers in her palm, followed by a few red berries he collected from the flowers. “Honeysuckle flowers and berries, native to the northern hemisphere. My world cultivates them too. In my land, we use them to cover unsightly walls and outbuildings as decorations, but here in the wild,” Julian paused to suck the honey off the end of the flower. “-we drink from them and eat their berries, at a small, moderate quantity. A sweet treat I must add, but some of them can be poisonous and will stop your heart.”

One corner of his mouth quivered. There was a rough touch in his voice, low and with a breathy quality as he parted his lips, regarding the female. “Julian. Julian Aindréas O'Donovan, and I am but a man who has been through bitter experiences and has traveled far, tainted by death. I am also a man who enjoys even the sufferings of time spent venturing into the unknown. It is the only thing I dream of. Knowledge is power. I have seen what little others have seen, so I agree with you m'lady. Death may be waiting for me, but I must seek this man. They name him ... Rumpelstiltskin. How about you? I desire to hear what brought you to the forest tonight.” With a genius half-smile, eyebrows rose slightly and the man locked an unflinching focus on the female while slowly shewing on a single berry. Little did he know just how dangerous making deals with the Dark One was and how great the fear he invoked in many with his dark power.

“Yes, we may be breaking the law sitting here, m'lady, but rules are made to be broken."

Oh, how the man was right and wrong in all so many ways. A woman of the kingdom, she would have to disagree with him. Yet, right now, she didn't have to be a woman a part of the kingdom. She didn't have to be woven in with the castle in anyway. She could be a simple maid of the castle, and it wouldn't matter. The man in front of her wouldn't know. He was a traveler. He could escape and become anyone he wanted to. She had to lie to visitors instead of coming to them...She always had to be Cadelle O'Connell, daughter of the Lord of the castle. A smile was on her face as she couldn't help but smile, listening to him, watching him be so passionate about his men and his home.

As she sat there on the blanket, she was happy to be there. She was delighted to be the one who he told his stories too. She wasn't distracted, but lost in his words. He spoke of countries, magic, and technology (blasphemy!)...a different world. Her eyes sparkled as she glanced around them. His words had her wrapped around his fingers. Just hearing of the different things that was in his world, she was even more excited to sit there on the blanket with the total stranger. Her heart was racing so fast at the words spoken, at the wonders he had seen and heard about. Never, but from a traveler, would she have been able to come up with this. People in the castle would laugh at Cade for her silly thoughts, and no one would listen to her stories. She had none of excitement. No extravagent princes, or midnight runs around the forest, meeting different creatures of the night. No...They wouldn't hear of it. She would be locked in her room for long hours...Her eyes blinked and she was suddenly back in the place with the man. She hadn't missed a single thing, he had headed over to pick up some flowers and berries. Every move that he made, every word that he spoke, she was under a spell of just awe. He was mysterious and charming, but she didn't know what to think about him. A crazy man, for sure.

"Traditions, magic, different worlds, you say? She said softly. "People in the castle do not speak of magic. They call it blasphemy underneath the religious speaker's orders. Even the king follows those said by him." Her eyes met him. She was intrigued with love, and the moment that he had spoke about it, her little heart perked up even more in it's fast race to no end. "We call those fools for love...It usually harms more than good." She said practically reciting words from her mother. "It's all arranged. It's a myth here." She said, keeping her gaze steady with him. "I can see why you are so worried. A land so far away from home, it is no wonder that you are going to the ends of the earth just to get back home." She smiled at him, a soft blush coming to her cheeks for a moment before she glanced downward. "You are brave, sir. To travel the lengths of the dangerous waters, to see what lies beyond the horizon, but, even with all that courage, what you are desiring is something you are not prepared for. Even a man of science does not want to even touch the magic that lies in this forest...It is not good magic. It is of the darkest origins, but with the mirage of a good life, of good fortune, of nothing but lies."

She knew the flowers and berries from the many books she had read in secrecy, but she was in awe of the man who knew so much. It was normal for a man to know way more than women, but she still, she still felt as if it was coming in so many fabulous colors that she couldn't just pay attention to one part of it. The moment that he touched her skin, she felt the emotion run over her. She felt the worry and longing for home...every feeling that he had been feeling in that moment. She stuttered for a moment as she got flashes of different emotions running over her, but it was stronger coming from him. Her own was getting mixed up and she wasn't sure how to handle the reaction. Immediately, she pulled her hands away from his, taking the flowers and holding the berries within her hand. Red flashed in her face as she tried to regain her thoughts and settle her beating heart as she held the flowers. "Honeysuckle flowers, and berries? She said with stuttered curiosity. She didn't like touching people. She paused, watching him carefully. Heeding his warning, she glanced down at the berries, parting them with her fingers by color that she could see slightly by the moon's light. She took in a deep breath as she was still trying to keep herself together by the time that she glanced up at him. "I am in awe of your knowledge, sir."

It was then that her main question had begun and he spoke of his name. It fit him nicely. She smiled at him, having seen the hesitation before he had spoken it. From there, she was smiling on until he spoke of the man who was in Misthaven. She immediately dropped the berries and flowers on the blanket, moving from her seated position, practically moving to cover his mouth. She shook her head quickly and looked around them. "You do not speak of his name! You never say his name..." She glanced around them. Just at the name, the forest had gotten quieter than before. She bit her lip for a moment as she glanced around them. She pressed her hands to her face, covering her eyes for a moment until she pulled them away, feeling a little alert. "I don't feel as safe anymore." She said honestly, glancing around them. "I think we should move, now." She said, gathering her skirts and wits and started to get up from their little blissful moment.

The man realized he was speaking without interruption, disappearing into his own story for a while. For a moment though he regarded her, eagerly waiting for her to speak and give him the answer to the question he sought, but at the same time he wanted to go back in time and comment on every other word she said to him if only he had given himself time to respond. Like when she mentioned that speaking of magic was blasphemy in the castle, or how such a strong emotion that cannot be seen or touched but only witnessed once touched by the heart; something as pure and true as love, is viewed as only a myth and uttered secretly within the castle walls of the King. He wanted to tell her just how much he disagreed, totally did, even though he never had a taste of this one heart-wrecking emotion himself.

When her lips moved to express her appreciation of his knowledge, the man thanked her in a tone hardly above a whisper and like a fine film of cobwebs floating in the air, he dropped his guards down around her.

Bereft of the feel of her lips, he surveyed them discreetly, waiting for them to speak her name and her story but quickly his irises fell to her hands as they dropped the flowers and berries on the blanket, her body shifting towards him. The man leaned back and suddenly felt cold, so cold that even the fire failed to warm him. It was the mixture of worry and despair he understood from her voice, but it was also confusion and excitement all at once that sparked in the man's eyes upon the mentioning of the man whose name should not be spoken aloud, or even whispered. His mouth dropped open slightly, watching the worry plague the female's fair features and he was not only captivated by the expression on her face but bitten by the distress she portrayed. Surrounding to these signs was a natural outcome, an unconscious tendency, both sweet and mind-blowing satisfactory. "I don't feel as safe anymore." These words she communicated convincingly made Julian quickly rise to his feet with a blinding will to make sure the woman would arrive safely home before he hit the road once again, even if that meant riding back to Arendell and delaying his own journey back home.

"I think we should move, now."

“What is going on?” He asked, speaking the first thing he thought and the tone in his voice showed how the change in their previous dialogue caught him by surprise. He glanced around him, seriousness returning to his face as he thought for a moment that he might have done something which offended the woman, or that she simply did not feel at ease in his presence no more and for that he wished to grant her the desire to leave. He advanced to wear his frock coat back on and shoving the rest of the scattered items inside his travel bag. “Yes, yes. I shall ride you back home. I am not very certain what worried you so, but we shall do as you say.” Assuming that is where the female desired to go, Julian circled around the tree to get to his ride.

One hand across the withers of the beast's back, the man suddenly noted the strange silence which grew in proximity. Mystified, his brows furrowed and eyelids blinked a few times. His ears payed more attention to his surroundings than it did a moment ago. Brutal screams certainly not of a world he knew echoed in the dead of the night from a few miles south. His body tensed and every muscle in his body stood out. The man shot a glance at the woman with a glazed look in his greys. “I take that back. I believe you're right, m'lady. We must hurry.” Hurriedly he went back to pick up the last remaining item, his diary, when past the female's shoulder and across the display of the river behind her form, a strange green smoke seemed to slither between the trees and across the ground effortlessly, heading their way. It neared and neared. “What...?” To the side, the man cocked his head and eyebrows rose slightly as he registered with confusion what was happening; the distinct scent of death oh so familiar forced a harsh gasp out of his being. The sight was not purely illusory, it was real.

An arm around the female's waist, and a hand on her shoulder urged her to move along and the man's steps fell ahead of her, freeing the obsidian horse. He swung up onto the panicked beast and leaned forward, momentarily allowing his voice to speak to the horse, soothing it's inescapable behavior. Since there was no saddle, Julian kept enough room in front of him for the woman. The stirrups were secured in a way where they fell long enough so that his heels were not touching the horse. "Where do you live? Home then, am I correct? I have lurked in the area for a few days to know where we currently stand." His attention in great haste fell to the woman whose name was still a mystery to him and he reached down with one arm, offering an inviting hand to help her up.

It was as if everything that she heard was coming alive. She had felt so comfortable around the man. His heart was in the right place, but the destination that it sought for was not within reach of this world as he was supposing. The supernatural tendencies...The ones that the castle had forbade anyone practicing, she was a little worried. The man wanted to return home, and finally find the place that his heart was content with. Her eyes had widened the moment that he had spoken the name. Practically jumping on the man to cover the mouth, she felt the forest go silent. Even the forest itself didn't like the name. Everything began to quiet down and there were different sounds of cruelty now happening. It was as if the name in itself was death. The death and the torture that came along with the consequences.

Fear began to trickle at her mind as she quickly pulled away, feeling blood fill her cheeks as she did so. Advising that it no longer felt safe, the man was quick to move with understanding. That was what she was grateful for. She nodded as she pulled herself up from the blanket. "I'm afraid you saying the name has put the forest at an unease. The moment this forest becomes that way, the consequences are endless!" She said, fear sparkling in her eyes as the man pulled on his coat and the woman looked around them. She could see the fog rolling in around the tops of the trees roots. It looked almost as if an acid smoke, killing things in it's way. She wasn't sure from the lack of light, but the moment that the color hit the light, she felt the urgency to get out. The man quickly pulled himself onto the horse, leaving room for herself. Gathering her skirts, she climbed up, with his help of course and settled on the horse's back with the man behind her. Placing her hands on the horse's neck, she looked around them. "Head toward the castle please!" She said, a little worry in her heart. Tonight she had asked for adventure, and adventure she received.

No wonder people said be careful what you wish for...

Cadelle braced herself as she waited for them to start moving. The fog was running close to the horse's pasterns. She bit her lip. "We need to move now!" She said with urgency. Knowing how to get a horse moving, she tapped her heels into the horse's sides to get them to start moving. The darkness seemed to have gotten darker from the time they started moving by the time that they had exited the forest. It was outside of the castle walls. The king wanted nothing to do with the forest. Blasphemy was the name any time someone even brought up the subject. Everything the king didn't understand, he wanted nothing to do with...At least that was what Cadelle thought. Little did she know that the king knew very much about the forest...As for the reasons why people should stay away from their too, but never was she ever close enough to listen to the stories he had to tell. Pulling her hair to the side, she wanted to keep herself from having the man hit with a face full of hair. Holding on to the horse's hair, she held herself up, hating the way that her legs were going to be bruised and battered by the time that they returned to the castle.

Once the castle was in view, she found herself feeling a little bit better. The green fog had stopped at the edge of the forest and now she wanted to come to a slow pace. Running away from their fears of the unknown, she was sure that she should be grateful that the man had come prepared with a horse to get away fast if he needed. She, again, was not prepared like she should have been. Glancing back at him. "Thank you, Julian. I am grateful for your preparedness." She said with a soft blush on her cheeks. She was scared, a little hot, and she was thankful that they were out of the Enchanted Forest alive and safe.

Looking back at the castle, she found that her heart slowed. She didn't want to go back. She didn't want to sit through another court. She wanted to travel, but she knew she'd have to find a way out of this place...her eyes faltered for a moment as her shoulders began to sink. "Your destination...Misthaven can be found." She said softly. Having read through the books, known all the maps, she had known it by heart, but never did she have the courage to actually travel through the forest to see what was out there. "I can help you get there...but I must have the map, from the atlas that we have in the library. You are a kind gentleman and I want to help you get back to Ireland. But..." She paused for a moment. "I want to come with you." She said, glancing back at him. The words had come out so fast that she barely understood what she was saying. Her heart wanted to leave so much that she felt as if she was going to do anything to get there...and that was to make a fool out of herself to do it.

Oh, how now she regretted it...

"Head toward the castle please!" She requested, and to the castle they rode.

After a few hours of riding, the once threatening fog faded back into the darkness of the forest as the castle lights came into view. A long sigh escaped the man's lips as he thought about how avoiding danger was no safer in the long run than outright exposure. The fearful were caught as often as the bold, and for a moment he found himself secretly wishing he conquered his fear and remained where he was to confront the fog and whatever the fog brought with it but the mark of fear was not easily removed; it was only of natural instinct that mortals in general would find themselves rather escaping the terrifying unknown than facing it.

This man, driven by an insistently natural curiosity, despised living a clueless life. Men like him who lived to quench their thirst of the unknown were always in some danger and while some may have succeeded living a life long enough to tell their tales, others never made it back home.

Home...

Her blushing face in the darkness he surveyed as she glanced at him a few times, first to thank him of his preparedness and then to share a surprising revelation with him. Coming eye-to-eye with her again, Julian's stare dived into hers and it was then that he was able to feel her pounding heart, vibrating throughout her frame as she remained seated with her back to his chest, revealing her desire to escape. While the intimacy of their seated position was warm enough to ignite peace and offer him comfort, her words troubled his thoughts and he forced himself to dismount the beast and excuse himself for a moment.

One palm came to rest against the side of the horse's head, and carefully, the young man placed his face close to the beast's nose. "Easy. Easy now. You are safe." As if pierced by a magical arrow, his frame trembled and he found himself pronouncing a word he recognized soon after to be the name the horse once possessed and made it her own. "Falada."

His eyes lit up as he glanced up at the lady and he smiled, exhaling out of his mouth in time with the mount's breathing. Assured that the horse was finally feeling safe again, the man stepped to the side and offered to help the female down and back on her feet again. Rubbing the horse's withers and neck, Julian glanced at the female with a hesitant spark in his eyes, calculating the immense responsibility of having to take care of the woman should she end up riding to Misthaven alongside him before sailing together to a world that was not hers, one she never thought even existed. Even though there was no line between the real and imaginary, Julian wondered if one day he would wake up from a long night of sleep and find out that all his adventures were nothing ... nothing else but a dream. All along but a sad prisoner of an increasingly insane world.

"M'lady..." he began, approaching her closely. He raised his eyes and into her own he stared one more time. His raspy voice not only leaked with pure honesty, but perhaps hope as well as he was wishing she would understand that there will be consequences to any decision she end up following. The advice he would be carrying for her this very moment, would be nothing else but reasonably comprehensive, or so he desired.. "I do not know your name. You have not told me yet, but from what I came to realize, you hold an important place within the walls of," he took a glance towards the castle and looked at the woman again. "-the King's castle. For all I know you may be a hereditary ruler of a principality in Arendelle, or a lady of the court; someone of a prestigious importance but you are certainly not a servant." A face-consuming smile of intrigue touched his face as he continued, his attention momentarily sailing to the woman's lips, contouring their shape. "But I do recognize nobility when I see't and you my lady are no stranger to this legitimate reality of yours."

Into an open path he lead her, one palm gently placed on the small of her back. The trees gave way to a clearing and from there the view of the castle was clearer than ever before. The wind caressed his face as if the hand of a child, or a woman's had touched him. He swallowed hard and cleared his throat before speaking his next words, his visual attention surveying the dark outline of the majestic, royal fortress. "I can also understand your desire to escape your life. I have done it. Yes, I was hesitant at first, but I did. I have had no regrets since. This life is not meant for everyone although the miserable and the poor would gladly walk in your shoes. You must try to generate happiness within yourself. If one is not happy in one place, chances are one will not be happy anyplace." Julian glanced at the female and cocked his head to the side, speaking softly to her. "If you wish to breathe free into clean air once again and if you strongly believe that your present life is no longer suiting you, then I promise I will care for you and in our journey away."

Suddenly feeling a lively rush of enthusiasm coursing through his frame, one twenty-four year old young man moved to stand right in front of the woman and joining his palms together in front of his chest, he added, plunging into her eyes and his own glistened with hope. He spoke to her resolutely with an everlonging tone in his voice. "Show me to Misthaven. Come with me then. Joy can spring, yes, t'will spring like a flower even from the cliffs of despair, and life is too short to spend it wondering what if ... what if one has done different, wherefore we need to get moving, and now." He drew a deep breath and searched her face for one last reassurance that this is something she wanted truthfully, just in case a little deflection was in order.

Cade could barely feel her fingertips. With her rushing heart and the cool breeze on her limbs as they strode from the forest, she was sure that she was going to freeze. Her eyes took in the scenery, catching glimpses of the castle as they strode on. It was through the trees. The lights of the castle were magnificent. She could see the flames from her seat on the horse in front of the man who was directing them back home...He was hesitant...Even as she spoke about her helping him. He had been all for her knowledge beforehand, now he seemed to be regretting his choice of finding acquaintanceship with the lady. Her eyes followed his shadow on the ground as they had come up to the back entrances of the royal garden outside of the castle walls. She watched him walk carefully over to the front of the horse. Just by the touch of his hand, gliding across the hair that covered the beast, taming it with the gliding motion, she felt ease in it. She felt calm herself just watching it, but turning her head away from him and looking up at the castle, it all seemed to fade away. She could only imagine how her father would feel at this moment.

She wasn't alone as a daughter. Two more joined her, and even a brother alongside them. Her shoulders began to slump as he reached up to help her down from the beast. Keeping her skirts in check, she gathered her wits as she finally stood on solid ground. Standing there, she touched the horse's neck trying to feel the calmness once more, but it no longer blessed her with it's presence. In the process, she had heard the man's voice and immediately she felt her heart fall to the ground. The way that his words took a tone that gave her warning. The woman wasn't kind to words of mockery, but before even giving a emotion on her face, she stayed neutral, controlling what she immediately felt so then she wouldn't make a joke of herself. His explanation of where he was coming from was clear. Why would he want a lady of all people, one who he barely knew the origin or name of to join him on a quest that was to find the answers so he could make the journey home....The only thing that she had going for her was her knowledge. Knowledge of the maps and their location within the walls of the library, somewhere he could not get to without her guidance and connection.

She resisted the urge to purse her lips. "Cadelle. Cadelle O'Connell is my name." She paused, glancing at the horse for a moment until he started to lead her toward the castle. "My point...my reasoning behind this desired journey of mine is not to only help you, but to give more insight of the world around us more than what we already have..." She hesitated. Cade was great at speaking with people. Talking and getting to know one another very easily. It had been the reason why the King had always asked her to write his speeches that he gave at the court. It was also a reason why she didn't like going to them. His assistant always changed it up and the results were always horrendous. She pressed her lips together at the thought, but returned to the matter at hand. She wanted to go. Badly.

The words that he spoke, the wisdom that he put forth was all taken into consideration, but her thought was final...She was a rather stubborn one... "My desire isn't to leave this life, despite how I may sound. It is more to get experience, so that maybe one day I would be equal to the elders that feel as if I have nothing to offer them." She lifted a brow. "It is more than breathing fresh air....It is seeing how things are in a more uncivilized world. Definitely to the place that you wish to go." She shook her head for a moment, glancing up at the castle as they came up to the entrance. "I'm not going to beg you, but I wish you would think about my offer. My knowledge of the forest could be of use, as well as the location of the maps of these woods would definitely help your journey take less time so you can return to your family."

Her eyes left his and she didn't say another word, leaning to go back within the castle walls when something must have spurt through the man. Bulging eyes stared at him as he suddenly had felt the power jolt through him. A epiphany perhaps...A smile pulled at the corner of her lips as he spoke of letting her go and joining the trip of a lifetime that she probably would never receive again. Sharing the excitement, she nodded her head, glancing into the entrance. "Follow me. We must get all the materials we need before taking off." It was as if she had a little more bounce in her walk as she followed suit through the gardens. Reaching to the entrance though, her eyes scanned the area. Maids would wonder, but they wouldn't speak to many. Guards might question, but that is a given. The moment she says that the man is with her, they would understand. A man of his suiting would be likely to get in without much hassle.

It was past a few hallways, past the hall of paintings of family portraits, down and through the marble statue room dedicated to the king himself before finally reaching the big wooden doors leading into the lovely library. Her eyes sparkled just a little bit as the old smell of leather and paper reached her nose. "And welcome, Dear Julian, to the Royal Library. With every book and piece of literature or information you could ever imagine needing." It didn't take her long to go through the stacks, finding the atlas's and maps of different locations around her kingdom. The forest wasn't much traveled due to the many different consequences and dangers that it proposed, but it had enough information to get them there safely.
