Tech looked over the edge of New New York's borders. there were only four ways out of the city. The four Main compass directions. he had arrived through the use of a stolen hoverlift from the East. That particular exit was blocked off since he had managed to wreck the controls when an officer caught sight of him and radioed in to the NNYPD.

~Oh well, live and learn~ He thought, taking a small gear out of his pocket to observe it. Replacing the Gear, he began looking around the newly built city. It was a marvel of modern technology. Those Aliens... what did they call themselves... ah yes, the Archaiologicals, sure knew how to build stuff. Although considering that they were more man sized Rock Golems than alien, it wasn't surprising that they could build something so majestic and ask only to live there in peace in return for maintaining it. They had the help of their distant cousins, the Electibyterosians to power the floating city. supposedly the 'Bytes' as Earthlings called them, were unlimited power sources, and had been maintaining the cities power grid since the place was built. who knew?

Unfortunately, or perhaps in Tech's case, fortunately, there was always a criminal underworld, and with the added Archaiologicals and Bytes, Came the Viruses(this is not their alien name, but a name given to them by the Bytes). The viruses were corrupt people of other planets who were bent on "Subtle Human Removal", which is just a nice term for slow and painful extinction. Tech never removed his helmet when near them or while in proximity of cameras, so they couldn't determine what he was, much less who was behind the armor.

~I wonder what I should steal first?~ Tech thought, grabbing a newspaper that had a picture of a museum on it. within seconds he found his target.

"Bingo!"

~~~T~I~M~E~~S~K~I~P~~~
An alarm sounded as the NNYPD surrounded the building. Tech was on the roof, looking down at them with his pose symbolizing boredom, although through the blackened helmet, it was impossible to tell unless he decided to speak. He waved and mock saluted the authorities before saying.
"Tech Nicholi Tie's the name,
Classy Crimes are the Game!
Come one come all and try to solve
The answer that will soon dissolve!
However you must act post haste,
Before the building's laid to waist!
By T.N.T.'s destructive paste!"
As soon as he said this, he did several flips over gunfire and disappeared into an ill strategically placed alley, making a clean getaway.
"Does it seem like he's a bit off his rocker to you?" one of the human officers asked.
That's when they heard it. the incessant beeping of a time bomb about to go off.
"BOOM!"
As if a destroyed museum wasn't enough, they heard a recorded message play seconds later.
"That's too bad, it's such a shame,
But thank you for playing my game!
I hope you remembered my name,
But if you didn't, share the blame!"
~~~T~I~M~E~~S~K~I~P~~~

"WHERE IS SHE?!? I want Miss Thayeson in my office. Not tomorrow, not after lunch, NOW!" Chief Triket was a Byte who had been known for his temper in times of crisis, but was fair in paying his employees, so no one complained. "We've been at the search for THREE WEEKS!!! I'm calling in the hovercar units! block all roads to check for IDs on ALL patrons!"

"Even the children, sir?"

"I don't care if it's a two month old in diapers! I want his records on file!" Triket fumed.

"Yes sir. right away sir." The sergeant responded and seconds later he had escorted the young woman inside.

"Thayeson. Sit down..." he gestured to chair. "We have been chasing a man who refers to himself as Tech Nicholi Tie. a.k.a. T.N.T. The boys around here who are newbies call him Technicality, and apparently that gets him mad. He's been stealing things and then leaving no evidence by, as strange as this may seem, leaving a collapsed building as more evidence that he must be stopped. I gathered from our Philadelphia department that this "Tech" person has made it onto your hit list. We need him alive for questioning, so see what you can find out."

Emery Thayeson had heard of this mysterious thief in passing before, but had never truly given much thought or attention to him until he his heist in Philly. He hadn't been on her radar until that day, and now she would stop at nothing to find him. So far no one had been able to even come close to catching him. Hell, they didn't even know what his motives were. His targets were seemingly random and many simply passed them off as such. She, however, passed off nothing. She didn't believe in coincidence, or happenstance, or random occurrences. Everything had a pattern, some were simply more difficult to find and almost impossible if you weren't looking. Everything was a clue, a piece of a puzzle that she would no doubt solve.

She had received a call from Chief Triket in New New York, requesting her help on the case. She had gladly accepted. She was not only intrigued by the case and quite interested in trying to decipher the puzzle that so many had failed, but she also wanted to catch him because he had stolen something she needed, something that her father needed. Without it he would most likely die, and she wouldn't let that happen. There was certainly no way she would let it happen without a fight.

When she had arrived in New New York, she heard about yet another heist, in which a museum was destroyed. He was using the explosion to destroy evidence. Nevertheless, no matter how hard one tried, even the best, the most brilliant of criminals always left something behind, intentional or not. She intended to find it.

She waited to meet with the chief and as she waited she didn't miss the signs of a raised temper, particularly the raised voice. So his reputation was founded, then. She waited until a man came to escort her into his office, where she took a seat in the chair the chief had gestured to. "So I've heard. And yes, you are correct. He is most certainly on my radar." she replied. "Rest assured, I will find him." she assured him with a firm determination.

"I will need everything you have on him." she assumed he would have likely figured as much. She knew a great deal from what she had gotten from the Philly police department, and what she had found on her own, but she needed everything she could get her hands on. "Also, if possible, I'd like to take a look at the crime scenes. I might find something that was overlooked." she hoped he would agree. Given how badly he wanted this guy caught, she didn't expect him to hold anything back. "Otherwise, I'll let you know if I need anything else, or if I find anything." she added.

---Time skip---

Emery left the office and headed to the collapsed building. She needed to see what she could find. Collapsed building or not, she was certain that she would find something. It might be small and seemingly insignificant, but she was confident that she would find something. She arrived at the site and took a preliminary glance around the scene before tying her black hair back, donning a pair of gloves and continuing her examination, looking for any clues, anything at all that might help her, no matter how small it might be.

Tech watched this new character come to his brilliant trap... wait, no, she looked familiar, but he couldn't give any thought on who the woman was until he had made certain his plans were to fall into place.

As she began sifting through the rubble, he found himself glad that he was using a bug to observe instead of hiding somewhere close by. "She seems to know where to look... I wonder though, will she find the hook? much more determined than the gunner! this will be all kinds of funner!" he mentally- and I use the term lightly- scolded his poor grammar.

"Note to self, a book of rhymes. Stolen from the store of dimes." he said into a small device on his wrist. turning his attention back to his fly on the wall camera, he noticed that she had unearthed a hooklike area that had been seemingly untouched.

There was a basement that had survived. And what's the number one survival tip?

NEVER go into the basement!

Emery slowly and carefully examined everything. Her keen eyes took in everything, every detail, filing it away in her mind for later use. She slowly sifted through the rubble until she found something. She didn't know what it was at first, but it was something.

It was a basement, she discovered. The basement had survived. Whether or not this was intentional was yet to be seen, but she found this to be unlikely. She didn't believe in coincidence. If he had wanted it gone along with everything else, it would be gone, of that she was certain.

She moved the rubble until she had unearthed the entrance and she stared down into it. The only question was whether or not to go down. It wasn't a question, really. It was a matter of weighing risks versus benefits. The key to getting the edge she needed to solve his case and catch this guy may lie in that basement. She had to take the chance, even if it risked her well-being to do so.

She cleared the entrance, took a breath, and began her slow descent. She put a small mask on to avoid breathing anything harmful in and clicked on a flashlight. Her gaze searched the basement carefully but as quickly as possible without missing anything. She looked for anything out of the ordinary, or anything that could help her in any way.

The Basement looked as though it had been recently, and poorly, rearranged. A lone projector stood off to the left of the room. one of those antique ones that looked like it had been there for centuries. Another thing was a huge white sheet draped on the opposite wall. There were also a few(five to be exact) rows of chairs set up as though someone wanted an audience. The remainder of the intercom system was playing a loop of a deranged man, presumably Tech himself, saying the following:

"Welcome, sit, enjoy the show!
I recommend the second row,
In a few moments you will see
Why no one has ever caught me!
I really truly wish to see,
Will you be the hunter, or is it... ME!"

And with that a laugh sounded throughout the basement. The strange thing is, it wasn't a cruel laughter. It was more like a man who was on the border of remote sanity. a mix of finding something incredibly hilarious, and a man who simply didn't have a conscious desire to care about anything.

A minute went by, and the projector turned itself on remotely, which shouldn't have been possible given it's era of manufacturing. A slide of a young boy crying showed itself on the monitor, with words printed under the image:

"Here I am, see me cry, I really don't remember why."

Thirty seconds passed, as if he wanted to get his audience to examine the photo. it was in Gif format, another clue that the projector was not as old as it claimed by appearance. the second slide showed a man in a lab, shaking and looking frantic. the words underneath were as follows

"Another tragic day for me,
The day I remember perfectly!"

There was a 60 second pause, then a third slide, a picture of Tech Nicholi Tie himself, in full costume with his visor up, this Gif was horrible. he was using his ceramic nanoblade cufflinks to kill a room of scientists, who seemingly hadn't been expecting him to murder, but had somehow known he was there the whole time. the following words were displayed as the scene played over and over:

"You never know the perfect crime,
But that I say felt mighty fine!"

As the show ended with the old style 'FIN' writing, Tech sat down behind Emery and asked her a cryptic question in his rhymes.

"You look like someone I once knew,
Tell me, did you find the clue?
The three slides had one central theme
and here's a hint, it isn't cream!"

Then he faded from existence like a hologram with a cross between a good natured chuckle, and a mental patient giggling.

Emery's eyes darted observantly around the room as she made her way down the stairs, noting the projector to the left of the room that appeared to be ancient, and how the room was poorly rearranged, five rows of chairs lined up in front of a sheet that was presumably meant to be the screen for which the projector would cast it's images. The recording that played on a loop sounded deranged and she could guess who it most likely was. Already she knew, he wanted an audience. He wanted someone to see. The question now was why?

She took a seat in the second row, as the recording had suggested. As the projector clicked on, she glanced back to the apparently ancient projector that was suspiciously more modern that it's appearance would suggest. Her gaze didn't linger more than half a second before returning to the make-shift screen.

As the first picture appeared she briefly read the text and studied the photo, which was in gif format, again suggesting the projector was more modern than it appeared to be. It was a young boy, who looked almost familiar to her, crying for reasons unknown to her. The photo lingered, as though he wanted her to study it, and study it she did, until it disappeared, replaced by another.

The next photo was a man in a lab, he appeared to be frantically shaking, why again, for reasons unbeknownst to her. Another tragic day, one that he remembered. She noted this and studied the photo carefully until it, too, disappeared.

The final slide appeared after a full sixty second pause and her eyes took in the sight, swallowing hard and examining every visible detail of the horrible gif. "It's you..." she was thinking aloud, commenting to no one in particular, considering she was presumably alone. This was a tragic day, too, but not for him. This time he felt 'mighty fine' as the text claimed.

She spun around when she heard the voice behind her and her eyes fell on him. She said nothing as the man disappeared after his rather cryptic question. "Someone you once knew..." she wondered aloud before standing and walking over to the projector as her mind churned. It may not mean anything, but she could leave nothing to chance. She would give the room another quick look after she examined the projector.

She may not know his identity yet, but she did know one thing, and that was that she had no intention of becoming the hunted. She would be the hunter. She would find him, even if everyone else had failed. No matter what it took.

Tech observed the camera set up as his audience left. He jumped as someone entered the door behind him.

"You have a job that needs doing, Techie ol' pal?" a man with several implants and a left cyber arm prosthesis asked him.

"Heavens, don't scare me like that,
I could have had a heart attack!" Tech replied as he turned to his "friend".

"If you can still rhyme, then you don't need to worry about it. any leads?" the cyber enhanced man asked.

"Interesting, the prey has left!
Get ready for another theft!
And FYI, just by the way,
This is work, it isn't play!"

The man nodded, not really bothered at Tech's constant rhyming. Come to think of it, he had come to accept that the man hadn't ever NOT rhymed.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Triket looked at Emery for a long while. "There was a 'Central Theme' to his clues? Well that's strange... criminals don't usually ask to be caught now do they? I still want to catch him, don't get me wrong, but why would he want to be caught? It isn't like he can keep stealing once we remove his helmet! Now, we just got a report of a break in at SYNCROPROS Labs. They manufacture hardware that can be, well... synchronized with human skin and vital organs to act as artificial enhancements. We aren't sure, but it looks like Tech's working with someone to steal from there. Can you look into it? I can give you a Tranquilizer gun, or if you prefer there's always the old fashioned R.E.D.S Grenades." he paused at her confusion. "Oh right, forgot you don't know our lingo around here. It stands for Remote Electropulse Detonatable Shock Grenades. They can short out any electric device. So which would you rather have?"
After having a good look around the site, Emery returned to the chief. She now sat on the other side of the desk once again, her brown eyes focused on the chief, who sat on the other side of the desk. "Yes, there was. Tragedy." she replied, folding her hands in front of her and staring across at him. "I can't say for certain, but I believe that each picture also contained Tech himself." she added. She was fairly certain that she was correct. The hair, the eyes, the facial structure, it was all too similar. It had to be him.
"No, typically they do not. However, they might, if there was something they wanted us to find, a story they needed to tell, a truth that needed to be uncovered." she thought aloud. "I believe that something happened to him. Something tragic. That is what he is trying to tell us, what he wants us to find." she went on. "At any rate, whatever it is, I'll find it, and I'll find him." she assured him. She still couldn't shake the fact that both the man and the child in the pictures looked familiar. Too familiar. Not too mention that he mentioned that she looked like someone he used to know. There was no way that was coincidence. She didn't believe in coincidences.
When he explained that they got reports that he was breaking into a lab, it got her curious. She was positive that whatever had happened, whatever he wanted her to find, had happened to him in a lab. He was in a lab in two of the three pictures, in the 2nd picture he had been in a lab and looked rather frantic. In the third he was using something he had stolen to kill the scientists in a lab. The scientists had known that he was there, which could only mean that he had already been there, that he was supposed to be there. It wasn't a freak occurrence, he didn't break into a random lab and kill random people. It was revenge. The question was, what had they done to him to cause him to seek such terrible revenge?
"Yes, of course." she replied, pausing and quirking a brow when he offered her something called a R.E.D.S grenade. He seemed to pick up on her confusion and went on to explain. "Ah. Right." she paused to consider her options. "I'll take the grenade, then." she replied. She had a hunch and she wanted to test it.
Once she received her grenades she gathered up her bag and headed out to the lab. This case was getting more and more intriguing. She needed answers and she intended to get them.
Tech had just finished setting up the charges. He was currently waiting for two things. his 'partner' to get back to him with a status report, and his target to show up.
"all around the SYNCROPROS Labs....
The T.N.T. was alright!
The Prey she thought twas all a game..."
he paused and looked down, seeing a figure approach the building.
"Boom goes the Dynamite!"
An enormous explosion shook the building, and he began hopping through the wreckage till he found the one room still standing. entering it, he walked over to the SYNCROPRO Labs item he had come for. pocketing the device, he heard a groan outside and exited the room. a weak voice sounded out a desperate cry for help.
"Tech! the charges went off too soon! please, you gotta help me!"
T.N.T. looked at his "Comrade" and chuckled.
"I'm sorry friend, I truly am,
but you dying was in the plan!
Now if you will kindly Rest In Peace,
I must vanish before she sees!"
And he ran out the back of the rubble left of the structure as the man started shouting indecencies and yelling things that are unrepeatable about Tech's mother. When the man saw a woman approach the room that was still standing, he called out to her. "Help me! I'll do anything! I'll tell you anything you wanna know! Just don't let Tech have the last laugh! I can help you catch the bastard!"
An alarm was triggered as the man struggled to move, his legs crushed under a support beam. Tech's voice rang out around the room that was still untouched. But this time there was a noticeable change. For once, it was panicked. the other strange thing was it... wasn't rhyming???
"I don't have much time! Whoever hears this, let it be known that Tech isn't who he seems to be! he is more than a human with a broken mind he's a Vir-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAUUUUUUUUUUUGGHHHH! hihihihahahaHAHAHAHA!" there was a deep inhale and exhale before the rhyming resumed.
"Technicality triumphs once again!
Tell THAT to your lady friend!"
The small room set off an electric barrier that expanded to the perimeter of the building. "So... How do we get out of here now?" the Augmented man asked. "That will short circuit me, and fry you like chicken. Got a plan?"
Emery arrived at the building just in time for the explosion, which seemed oddly coincidental, but she didn't believe in coincidences, so she doubted it was any such thing. He had waited for her arrival, or perhaps anticipated it. She filed this away as she ducked behind the nearest vehicle for a moment before resuming her path inside the building, heading straight for the lab. She could hear the voices speaking back and forth, the voice of T.N.T she recognized, the other voice that was now shouting was unfamiliar to her, and although most of the words were muffled she made out a few choice words and some things that she dare not repeat, even in her mind.
As she approached the one room that remained standing she heard a voice call to her, it was the same voice she had heard hollering moments before. She couldn't pass up the opportunity to get a leg up on him. He had left the man to die, or perhaps he had intended for her to find him and get whatever information he was willing to give. She couldn't be sure which. Perhaps it was both, even though that didn't make sense unless one really thought about it. Either way, she wanted whatever information he had. Logic told her to make it work but not to trust him, and that was what she intended to do. "Fine, I'll help you. But know that if you double cross me, you will wish I'd left you here to die." she informed him in a cool, matter-of-fact tone as she scanned their surrounding.
When the man moved it set off an alarm and she sighed. That was inconvenient, to say the least. Moments later Tech's voice rang through the untouched room. It was different. He was afraid, panicky, and he wasn't rhyming. It was almost as though he were a different person entirely. She filed this away as evidence to support one of the theories in her mind. His words further supported the theory. His words were cut off before he could finish, but she could guess what he was trying to say.
After a pause to inhale and exhale, the usual rhyming voice had returned. Lady friend? The words echoed briefly in her mind and she filed them away with the earlier comment that she looked like someone he once knew, and the nagging feeling that he looked oddly familiar.
Once the barrier expanded from the room and covered the perimeter, she returned her attention to the man who remained trapped under the support beam. "Of course I do." she replied almost as though that question should have been rhetorical. She reached into her bag and retrieved the grenade she had gotten from the chief. She armed it and tossed it into the room where the field had originated. Once the grenade went off and knocked out the shield, she gave a quick glance around the room to find something to use as leverage for lifting the beam. She found a long piece of metal and made a makeshift lever to lift the beam up enough for the man to move before she dropped it back to the floor
She scanned the area as best she could in the time she had before she helped the man to his feet. "Come on. We're heading back to the station and you're going to tell me everything you know." It wasn't a question, nor a request, but a statement of fact. She helped him out to her vehicle and headed back to the station, where she explained what had happened very briefly to the chief before requesting that she be allowed to question the man and give a full report later. She needed answers more than he needed a full report. She needed to know what he knew.
