A snorting laugh escaped Remus before he even got to think twice about it; in actuality, he didn't have a clear sense of whether or not Sirius had intended the comment to be humorous. Remus decided that the best course of action was to not give either of the two any time to question his laugh.
Instead, Remus returned to the entry way to pick up the bags where he had abandoned them, and pulled them with him into the kitchenette and onto the counter. "What do you do about food? You have his and his cupboards?"
Remus had pulled out a couple of dried goods before he finally turned to eye Sirius, his eyebrows slightly raised in a question.

Sirius shrugged at that, seeing as he and James never really had sat down to have a conversation about where to put what; it all just sorta happened organically and, mostly due to the fact that they share most of the **** they buy.
"Oh, we don't really have rules for where to put what," he said with a shrug, showing more egg into his mouth. He hoped that Remus wouldn't be too much of a square about it, but if Remus insisted that they should keep things very separated they would just have to deal with that. "We usually only use what we have bought ourselves, but we are also pretty up for sharing. If you don't want us to use your stuff you can just label it?"

Remus just hummed at that, as he continued to pull out an assortment of Poundland canned and dried goods. Once the bags were empty, Remus balled them up and half hazardly pushed them away from him.
"I might," he said, as he stepped away to find cupboard space for his groceries. The answer was spoken in an exhale as if he was, in fact, only just considering it; in reality Remus had already decided he would name the food as soon as he found a way to.
The fourth cupboard door he opened, a built in on top of the fridge in an awkward height and hard-to-reach depth, proved to be mostly empty. Deciding this was as good a place as any, Remus started shoving cans into the back of the cupboard. "Did you have a good day?"
There really wasn't much context to his question, but Remus got the impression that both Sirius and James were of the talkative kind, and Remus figured he better make an effort, though he only managed to look in Sirius' direction a couple of seconds at a time.

Remus hadn't struck him as the talkative kind, so he really appreciated the effort from his side. James had told him a little about Remus and how they knew one another, but Sirius was curious to get to know him on his own. They were living together after all and he felt like he should know both of his roommates more intimately.
"It's been all good," he said with a shrug, loosening his hair from the bun and running his fingers through the messy black strands. He took fairly well care of his hair, but it was so long and it became messy easily if he didn't take care. "What about you? Had to take a lot of racial slurs today?"
He didn't really know if that was appropriate talk for new roommates to engage in, but that was all he had really.

Sirius' comment should be more unexpected than it really was; in actuality, Remus was fairly certain that that had been one of the only topics they had yet to cover. Therefore, it was not Sirius' words that seemingly took Remus aback, once Remus turned to look at the other.
Momentarily distracted by the way Sirius' hand was running through his hair, Remus' words came slightly deyaled in a way, that made him sound matter-of-factly. "None; almost wished I had."
That was, of course, not entirely true, and Remus had to rephrase, feeling like he had to reel in just exactly how dryly he spoke. Forcing is attention off of Sirius, Remus once again started clearing the counter. "I've been covering for the receptionist, who's out sick, and there's been no visitors, so I think I've spoken a total of 5 words today."

"So that's why you're so chatty today?" Sirius asked with a crooked grin. He knew that it was probably a little rude to make jabs at Remus like that, but they weren't made in a malicious manner and Sirius could only hope that Remus understood that. After all, Remus was friends with James and James tended to talk the same way as Sirius did, so it wouldn't be a stretch to assume that Remus would understand.
He ran his fingers through his hair again, this time to tie it up in a proper, and tighter, bun again. While he liked his long hair, then it was also a pain in the ass and he didn't appreciate it getting into his eyes all the damn time. Sometimes you just gotta suffer for the aesthetic.

Remus couldn't help but smile at that, figuring that that might not be far off. The smile was however brief, and instead replaced with a little hum expressing that Sirius had managed to see right through his act.
"I'm not usually this nice, I'm just starved for human interaction," Remus offhandedly commented, shoving the last paper bag of oats into the cabinet. Despite the monotome delivery of the retort there were some remnants of he smile still in his features, genuinely enjoying having someone to talk to.

Even though the smile was brief, Sirius couldn't help but see it as a form of victory. Remus was very stoic, but Sirius wanted to get to know him more. They were all living together after all, so getting to know Remus a little more seemed like the obvious thing to do. He was already bloody close with James and James was friends with Remus, so it should be doable.
"That is what I figured. You are not that hard to figure out actually," he stated with a smug grin. He knew that there was probably a lot more to Remus than what he had figured out already, but he felt like he was at least somewhat on his way. "So, any riveting plans for tonight?"

"I'm, uh-" Remus exhaled, his voice getting caught in some lingering remains of a laugh. He had quickly finished unpacking his groceries, and for the last few moments he had just used the cupboard as a distraction for both his eyes and hands. Finally, he closed it, leaning slightly against the fridge door as the, with his arms crossed, finally allowed himself to properly look at his new roommate.
"I'm spending a riveting evening of the combined thrill of studying and eating canned soup." This time there was no smile to be seen on his lips, but it was audibly present in his voice. "How about you?"

Sirius couldn't help but grin widely at that, not at all surprised that that is what Remus considers to be a riveting evening. He seemed like a pretty chill bloke after all and while that wasn't quite Sirius' speed, then he could respect that. In general, he wasn't really one to judge people or what they did or did not like to spend their time on.
"That really does sound riveting," Sirius stated with a crooked grin, only poking a little fun of his flatmate. It's not like he had any huge plans for himself anyway, so he wasn't quite in a position to judge or anything. "Nothing interesting planned out no. Might go to the garage. Might go to a party. But mostly I'll just be seeing where the evening takes me."

Remus just hummed at Sirius' retort, raising his chin slightly in a vague acknowledgement of the other's sarcasm. "Doesn't sound quite as interesting, but I guess my plans are hard to top."
A suggestion of a smile reappeared in his lips, and, with that, Remus pushed himself away from the fridge. As if Remus didn't want to allow the smile to be seen, he glanced over his shoulder and into the hallway.
"I'm gonna go continue my reading," he eventually spoke, his tone regaining a formal and distant tone. Neither his voice nor expression was harsh, but his words were none the less a statement. He took a step backwards. "Enjoy yourself if you do go out in the meantime."
There was a brief twitch in the corners of his mount, well aware of the fact that Remus had, discreetly, told Sirius to leave him alone until further notice. Moments later, Remus turned around and left the kitchenette.

Sirius was hanging in his room, relaxing and reading a comic book he had recently bought. He was lying sprawled on his bed, hair in a messy bun and shirt riding up on his stomach. He didn't even know how he was lying anymore, only that he was somewhat comfortable while still being able to read, so he had simply decided that that was his fate now. He wasn't quite one to care all that much about posture anyway, so he didn't really want to move.

Before Remus knew of it, it had become well past 7 pm. He had been studying practically since he got back from work, and now that he was caught up with his readings, he had to motivation to begin his written assignments. Needing to change the setting and mindset, Remus had decided to procrastinate the homework by cooking, rather than just reheated a premade dinner as initially planned.
It had taken him the better part of an hour, but, if he had to say so himself, Remus had managed to cook up a decent chili. More than anything else it contained a variety of legumes, and against his better judgement, he intended to serve it with white rice to stretch the amount of portions he could get out of the pot. As it turns out, that quickly turned into an overwhelming amount of food.
It had taken him a couple of moments to decide what to do. In reality, Remus could have saved the leftovers for himself and it would have been no issue - after all, nobody had been around as he cooked it - and yet, Remus moved towards the other end of the apartment.
Remus hadn't ventured much around the flat - actually, he hadn't seen any of the other rooms. His was the smallest, the one nearest the front hall and the kitchen, but as he continued down the hall he peered into the doors as he went.
One bedroom was unfurnished, the second - the master - Remus knew to be James'. By the process of elimination, Remus knocked softly on the last, ajar door.

Having not expected company, Sirius was quite surprised when he heard a knock on his door. He sat up a little more upright, but still mostly lying sprawled on his bed with a comic lying on his stomach. He looked up at his door with a soft frown as he yelled a quick "come in," not even sure who to expect on the other side. The only other person he knew to be home was Remus and he really wasn't one to socialise unless absolutely necessary.

As Remus pushed the bedroom door open, his hand remained on the door handle. It felt lest intrusive that way, barely stepping into Sirius' bedroom. "Have you eaten?"
It was hard not to allow himself a glance around the room. It was fairly obvious that, of the three of them, Sirius was by far the most well established in his room. Everything in the room made sense, and Remus was surprised upon not finding it entirely displeasing.
Eventually, Remus' eyes returned to Sirius. "I made too much chili, in case you want any."

Even if Sirius had expected Remus, it still surprised him somewhat to actually see him in the opening to his door.
"I have not," he stated, as he sat up properly on the edge of his bed, mostly not wanting to make Remus think him rude or something. He ran a hand through his hair in an attempt to get an idea of how it looked, but he knew that it was probably a lost cause anyway, so he didn't bother to do anything about it.
"That is very kind of you, but I am a vegetarian."

To be truthful, Remus had expected Sirius to decline but not on that basis. There were therefore slight signs of a brief surprise, having raised his eyebrows slightly before gathering his thought enough to answer. "There's no meat in it."
It felt slightly bold to respond like that, not wanting it to appear like he was pushing anything onto Sirius, and therefore Remus allowed himself a moment of downtime.
"I'm poor," he reminded the other, a crooked grin forming on his lips. "- and I don't trust Poundland meat."

"Oh," Sirius said, almost as if the fact that Remus was poor surprised him. Sure, he was aware of the fact that Remus wasn't swimming in money, but he was so used to spending time with James who had more than enough money to go around. It wasn't like Sirius lacked money for himself either, so it was fairly easy to forget that everybody wasn't as fortunate as them. "Then sure. Food sounds lovely. I love a meal that I don't have to cook for myself."

Remus could almost sense the fact that Sirius hadn't interpreted his comment as the joke it was meant to be. Slightly taken aback by that, Remus didn't fully know how to continue from there on.
"I'm not forcing you to eat, you're more than welcome to decline," he needed to state as a disclaimer, suddenly feeling weird about his approach to the offer. "I'm neither that poor nor sensitive."

Sirius couldn't help but laugh at that, realising just how paranoid he had just sounded. However, he did want to eat a meal he hadn't cooked for himself, mostly because he wasn't that inventive of a cook and he always appreciated someone cooking for him. He did know that Remus hadn't cooked specifically for him, but he was offering him food and that was honestly good enough for him.
"I'd love to eat," Sirius said with a broad grin, getting up from the bed and not bothering with correcting his clothes, knowing fully well that he probably looked like quite a mess. "I'm just so used to James putting meat in ****ing everything."
