It had been a long time since Draco had even attempted to make friends with people outside of his business, so having to explain these things to outsiders were not something he was used to. It seemed that Harry got where he was going with it and he was endlessly appreciative of that.
"I shouldn't have reacted that sternly. You had no way of knowing how I stand on this," he said while still looking down at his coffee. It's going to take some getting used to this, but he hopes that they will be able to make this friendship work in some way. He really likes being around Harry and doesn't want to stop. "Just, like in the future, please don't do that?"

Harry nodded at that. "Oh course," he promised, trying not to smile at the prospect of seeing Draco again. He was, however, very aware of the fact that - though Draco seemed optimistic - it would take a lot of work for them to truly become friends.
Harry spent several, silent seconds trying to gather his thought around a harmless, casual conversation. Something in his posture changed slightly as he seemed to remember something, and he looked at Draco with a new found energy and a smile to match.
"My parent-teacher conferences went really well -" Harry wasn't sure if Draco even remembered that he had those, but it was something to talk about "- a mother yelled at me for 'brainwashing' her child, but the school board took my side on it, so it went far better than expected."

Draco fully appreciated Harry's change of subject, even if it was anything but smooth. It was going to be a lot of work for both of them, but he really appreciated just getting to talk with Harry like this. It was really the thing he appreciated about Harry the most and he hoped that he would get to stay in his life.
"Oh yeah? What are you brainwashing her precious child with?" He asked, appreciating the mundanity of Harry's life. It was so easy to forget about normal living when you were living a life like Draco's, and he honestly just really appreciated the grounding.

Harry grinned at the answer even before saying it out loud. "Uh," he said, doing his best not to laugh out loud, and he glanced away somewhere above Draco' shoulder.
"I'm a history teacher, right -" Harry started, not sure if he had ever mentioned what subjects he taught "- and we're doing a theme on the British Empire, specifically British India."
The grin on Harry's face must have been enough to explain how the parent-teacher conference had gone down. "And she didn't appreciate my radical way of teaching it."

Draco arched an eyebrow at that, honestly not that surprised that Harry's way of teaching history would be more than a little controversial. He had a different outlook on the history after all and it made good sense. At least it did to Draco.
"Ah yes, how horrible. Imagine having to have a different point of view than that of your parents," Draco said with a shake of his head, before taking a sip from his coffee. "Let me guess, a white woman with a bop?"

At that, Harry laughed; it was a loud and unapologetic laugh that made him lean back in his chair. "How could you guess?" he eventually asked, the grin still in his voice as he once again met Draco's eyes.
In reality, the confrontation had been absolutely horrible and the whole affair had lasted a couple of das. The principal had been involved and Harry had been in several meeting, both with and without the parent; until it was ruled that Harry's choice of material wasn't fake nor wrong, and ever since that, Harry had found himself unable to keep a straight face regarding the whole affair.

Draco only grinned at that, knowing a few too many women who were like that. Mostly his family members to be perfectly honest, but also a whole damn lot of his father's supporters. He was very familiar.
"A good guess?" He suggested with a wide grin, really enjoying hearing the sound of Harry's laugh. It was a nice and comforting sound, and it made Draco want to spend even more time with Harry, if only to hear him laugh again. "It's not like women like that are huge supporters of my father."

"Oh, yeah, **** that's right -" Harry exhaled so quickly that he didn't get the chance to process if that might also be an off-limits topic. Harry had completely forgotten about the fact that Lucius Malfoy was Draco's father. He shifted his position, leaning a bit forward again. The inevitable sense of regret started creeping up on him, and he tried to decide how to best get out of this one.
"I mean," he started, a bit evasively. "She didn't bring up the specific politics."

"Hey," Draco said in a soft voice as he reached out to gently place his hand on top of Harry's, looking him in the eyes as he did. He knew that the situation with his father was weird to other people, it was even weirder to himself to be perfectly honest. However, he didn't want Harry to feel bad about anything relating to his father, seeing as he already had given up on that entire ordeal.
"It's okay. I know that my father is a bastard and I know that his followers are even worse."

Draco's words and touch completely overwhelmed Harry, and he was so surprised that he almost pulled back his hand in sheer surprise. However, the part of him that craved Draco's touch was larger, which resulted in his instincts being dulled down into a small twitch.
"Oh," Harry started, not sure what he was even saying. "No, it wasn't that, it's just -" he managed to stutter out before finally realising that there was no point in what he was saying.

"It's okay, Harry," Draco said in a soft voice, giving Harry's hand a soft squeeze before he let go of it again. It seemed a little too intimate to keep holding his hand after all, even if it was purely platonic. He grabbed his coffee again and took a sip from it, a warm smile on his lips as he did.
"There's no reason to talk about my father though, that is honestly too depressing, but I am really sorry that you had such a bad experience with a parent."

As long as Draco's hand remained on Harry's skin, Harry was far too flustered to properly react. It was dumb and childish, but as soon as Draco took back his hand, it was as if a fog lifted from Harry's mind, and he was once again able to construct sentences.
"Oh, no it was -" Harry once again started, awkwardly and slightly embarrassed by Draco's smile, as he, too, glanced down at his cup. "- I'd say it was more of a good experience with the school board."

Draco nodded softly at that, taking another sip of coffee, noticing that his cup almost was empty by now, but going up to get more would mean to be separated from Harry and he didn't want that. It was enjoyable to be in Harry's company and he was going to get the most of it.
"That's something at least," he said with a warm smile, happy to know that someone had Harry's back in a case like this. "It's always comforting to know that the board has your back, even if it would be easy to take the parent's party."

Harry met Draco's eyes, a crooked grin on his lips. Yet again, Draco's smile made Harry's heart flutter, and, yet again, Harry had to glance away in order to construct an answer.
"Yeah, it really is. It's times like this when it's nice working at a public school - you don't technically work for the parents." Harry and Draco had bot gone to a private school as children, and thinking back on it, Harry didn't find the appeal of being a private school teacher.

Draco nodded at that, definitely seeing the perks in that. He had gone to private school his entire life and only ever socialised with other private school kids and their parents, so he could only imagine how horrible it would be to work there. He knew that all parents, including his own, had terribly high expectations of the teachers teaching their children and he doubted that anyone could live up to those expectations.
"Oh yeah, I can imagine. I have a tough enough time being a good role model for kids, because that is apparently my job as well, at least according to most parents on facebook and twitter," he said with a shrug. It came with the territory and he knew that going in, but it was still very overwhelming to know that young kids were looking up to him and that he was expected to act like some kind of role model.

"Yeah, I know," Harry grinned before he even got a chance to think twice about the subject.
"Or, I can imagine," he politely backtracked, briefly lowering his eyes towards his cup. Without drinking, he turned spun the cup around a bit. He was unable to dim the grin, and when he finally looked up to eye Draco, Harry was grinning from ear to ear. "There's a lot of your merchandise on year 8 textbooks."

The mention of his merchandise made a soft blush appear on his cheek, even if he knew that his merchandise was quite popular among young people, but it still felt weird to have someone he knew notice that. It reminded him of what a he actually was and that was always uncomfortable. However, he wasn't about to make a big scene about it, because he knew that Harry didn't meant it like that.
"Oh yeah, my manager does say that it sells well with that demographic is I guess that that makes sense," he said with a shrug.

"It's really fun," Harry continued genuinely, with a soft, toothy grin on his lips. His eyes lingered on Draco for a moment, before briefly glancing down towards his cold, neglected cup of coffee.
"It was fun to see before, when I knew you from school and all -" Harry started, and as he spoke, there was a small twitch in the corner of his mouth, which just further broadened his smile. "- but it's even more fun now."

Draco chuckled softly at that, only able to imagine how strange that might be to someone who actually knew him and didn't have contact to him anymore. It was fairly hard to avoid seeing him around though and it always made him feel a little weird, especially when he saw himself on billboards or merchandise while doing his shopping. That was probably the one thing that he would never truly get used to about that life. Having to constantly look at himself.
"Do they at least buy the official merch? The merch where I actually look good? Or is it all the rip-off eBay merch with out of context concert photos?" He asked with a soft smile, trying to make light of the situation.

The corner of Harry's mouth momentarily turned upward in a crooked grin before admitting: "I'm not sure if I'd be able to tell the difference -" though that was probably a lie "- not at that distance at least."
His eyes lingered on Draco for a couple of silent moments, and his smile slowly reappeared. "It looks nice, though," he continued to politely add with a chuckle, well aware of the fact that he hadn't set up the compliment in the best way.
