Hiccup smiled and looked at the dragon in astonishment. She never realized that dragons were just like people. They had feelings just like they did and knew how to show emotion. They were just intelligent and all these years, they have been enemies when they could have been helping each other.

A few months later....

Hiccup had finally figured it out. She had invented a way for Toothless to fly again, but only with her help. She had created a prosthetic wing flap for him, it was hooked to a wire in a saddle for hiccup to push and adjust for different flying styles. She had also learned different styles to controlling dragons. She found out that if you rub grass on a dragon, they go crazy. If you show a dragon an eel, it gets scared of it and cowers. She also found a spot on the bottom of the neck that if scratched just right, the dragon will fall asleep. All this and more she found out on her own. After a day of dragon fighting with the others in the arena, Hiccup snuck off, hoping that nobody had seen her.

Astrid watch Hiccup sneak off, he choose to follow the girl to see where she was going. He followed her closely with out being seen or heard, but he did talk to him self. "Where are you going?.. And why is it some secret?" He asked him self as he crept along behind the girl, he wasn't sure at all why she was going so far into the woods.

Hiccup went to where Toothless was, the mechanism under her arms and a big basket of fish for Toothless to eat. When she squeezed through the entrance she set the basket down and the mechanism.
"Hey bud. Got you a present." She kicked the basket making the fish fall out in front of the dragon. She smiled softly and moved to Toothless' tail, he attached the mechanism to the side where his tail flap was missing and started working.

Astrid suddenly tripped and looked down. "Ahhh what the hell?" He said, trying to pulling the roots and vines from around his legs. "Ahhh come on! Get off of you stupid things!" He shouted, but no one could hear him he was pretty sure of that.

Toothless just watched Hiccup move, the thing soon on his tail. The dragon looked at the thing and tilted his head, he soon swished it back and forth.

Hiccup hooked the tail piece to a saddle and put it on Toothless' back, hooking the buckles under his belly and tightening them. She then got on and sat on his back for a minute before adjusting the mechanism to where the proper position would be and waited for Toothless to make a move, she held on to a bar that had been placed on the saddle for protection and had also clipped a safety bungee cord to herself and the saddle just incase she were to ever fall off.
"Lets give this a try bud..." She said softly and reached down petting the dragon.

As soon as the dragon felt that it could take off, it did. It shoot into the air at a break neck speed, once more enjoying the feeling of being free. The dragon knew though that Hiccup had control though, as his new tail was the only thing that keep them flying.

Toothless went through the clouds, he did everything that Hiccup wanted him todo, of course there were a few close calls where they either almost went right into the water, or right into the rocks. But once hiccup had made the right movement the dragon saved them both. He let a happy growl of a sorts.

Hiccup loved the feeling of flying. It was fantastic, and freeing. She laughed and yelled loudly.
"This is amazing!" She spread her arms wide. She was grinning ear to ear, her hair whipping in the wind as she rode on the dragon. She reached down and gave Toothless a small rub on the head as he flew.

Toothless soon started back towards land, doing a few tricks though. As soon as he landed he went towards the small pond and started to drink from it, seemingly forgetting that he had just flown for the first time in some time.

Hiccup got off of Toothless' back, a large smile on her face. "Wasn't that awesome bud! We flew!" She patted him on the head and sat next to him as he drank from the pond.

Toothless smiled and nuzzled into the girl, before giving her a long lick over her face. He then let him self lay down and curl up in a ball around the girl, clearly ready to sleep. It seems the dragon could sleep at anytime it wanted, or at least that what it looked liked over the past few weeks.
