((dumb ****ing energy 2k19))

There was something enjoyable about it all. Harry was no stranger to the oddities of European royalties, but, after several days of travel, being so impatiently ushered away from the keep's great hall was nothing short of humorous. Whether or not they had inadvertently intruded outside of their host's planned introduction was never made clear; but, promptly being escorted back out to the courtyard by King Lucius' royal advisor had left Minerva furious and Harry on the brink of laughter.
They had left their company behind, only to have their escort continue directly though the keep and into what was to become Harry's accommodations during his stay.
Bartholomew had taken them through what Harry could only imagine was the most direct route to through the palace. The building was nothing short of impressive, yet the advisor had allowed them little time to linger. Harry suspected that King Lucius wanted to be the one to present the grandeur of the century old keep, yet Harry couldn't for the life of him explain why the King had yet to greet his guests.
As they paced through the stone hallways, Bartholomew had kept a polite, yet quick distance in front of the two Greeks. Harry thought the silent back of his head had done a wonderful job of telling them to hurry up.
Out of the corner of her mouth, Minerva was gently spewing curses in Greek. "The nerve of this man. If the King wishes to act like a spoiled child, he can do as he pleases, but this man has no right to be this pleased about showing this amount of disrespect."
Unable to do anything else, Harry just grinned. What little authority Harry himself had been given about this arrangement had quickly slipped out from between his hands, and he found that he had no other choice than to follow the man ahead of them.
"He did invite us, yes?" Harry returned in his softly spoken Greek and inevitably boyish smile. He did glance over at her, wondering whether she would allow herself to smile in this company. "There is no other Louvre?"

Even though Draco had always been strictly forbidden from interaction with the staff, unless it was to give a direct order, while growing up, then it had never deterred Draco from talking with the kitchen staff and the stable boys whenever his father wasn’t looking. He lived a rather sheltered existence, sometimes not even sure what was going on in the palace, and he had learnt at a pretty young age that the staff always seemed to be the first to know, no matter how secret it was supposed to be.
Hence, he had already heard the rumours about the foreigners who had come to the palace. It had become the source of gossip, seeing as the Greeks had arrived earlier than expected, meaning that no one were properly prepared for their arrival.
Draco knew that his father had to be furious, so he did what he could to avoid running into the king. He knew that he couldn’t avoid him forever, but he hoped that he would be able to avoid the worst of the explosion from someone spoiling his plans.
That was why Draco was moving through one of the lesser used wings on his way to his chambers, having sent for his servant to prepare him a bath; he knew that his father would be expecting him to look presentable to greet their guests and Draco doubted that the king would very much appreciate his riding attire.

As they ventured deeper into the keep, the unmistakable sound of leather heeled boots reverberated against the stone floors. Over the course of their walking, Harry had heard several softer sounds of the scurrying slippers of house staff, all of whom had disappeared down other hallways before they ever crossed their path. When the steps grew louder, Harry suddenly realized that, besides Bartholomew, this would be the first person they had seen inhabiting the keep.
Harry had been correct in his assumptions, when he judged that it hadn’t been staff approaching him. In fact, the sheer delicacy of the man’s features made it impossible for him to be any short of princely.
Ahead of them, Bartholomew confirmed that assumption. "Your Highness," he offered with half a bow; while he slowed his pace as he passed the prince, he didn't allow any of them to linger.
Harry, completely taken aback, did so regardless. He hadn't been made aware of the fact that the King had a son Harry's age – or if he had been, he hadn't realized the crown prince was residing at the keep.
There was a long moment where both Harry and Minerva had stopped, the woman a couple of steps ahead of Harry, uncertain what was expected of them. Harry's expression still portrayed a soft surprise, leaving his lips parted yet unable to gather his mind enough to think of any appropriate greeting in any language, appropriate or not.
Eventually, Harry saw Minerva perform a curtsy out of the corner of his eye. "Ypsilótate," she mused, most comfortable in her Greek courtesies.
Almost as if that had torn him out of a dream, Harry suddenly blinked, catching himself having stared at the Prince. For a brief moment, there was a smile of an embarrassed and apologetic smile on his lips. It was, however, gone as he too bowed.
"Ypsilótate," he repeated. As he once again straightened his posture, he added in a softly accented French, "Your Highness. It is a pleasure meeting you."

The entire point of going through the keep had been to avoid being seen by too many other people, including their newly arrived guests. However, Draco definitely should know his own luck better than that and thus shouldn’t be surprised when he ran headfirst into Bartholomew, thus their guests.
It was far from ideal to make this his first impression on the foreigners in his riding gear, but nowt that that was the situation he was in, he would just have to make the most of it.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you as well,” Draco stated in French, making sure to speak slowly and clearly without being patronising. He didn’t know how much French their guests knew, so he didn’t want to assume any level of fluency.
“I excuse my state of being. I did not expect to see you so soon,” he stated, switching to Latin so that it would be easier for the Greeks to talk with him as well and so that he wouldn’t have the advantage of speaking his mother tongue.
“I trust that Bartholomew is taking good care of you and he will be making absolutely sure that you are comfortable and at ease.”

Harry just blinked at that. Though Harry was confident in both French and Latin, the quick shift between the three languages seemed to blur his mind for a moment, making it hard for Harry to patch together an answer in either one of the three. It was either that or the striking looks of the man in front of him.
"Your being is beautiful," Harry eventually answered, in his soft but crude French. There was a shadow a pleasant surprise ghosting across his lips as they parted for an open mouthed smile. "There is no need to apologize, we are guests in your home."
After several moments of restlessly shifting his stance a few yards ahead, Bartholomew eventually seemed to come to the conclusion that an introduction would be the easiest way to tear the Greeks away from the Prince. His frustration showed in his movements, as he rejoined the party. Without further formalities, and barely without looking at their guests, he said a rushed, "Your Highness, the newly appointed successor to the Byzantine, Harry Potter, and his governess, Minerva."

The compliment caught Draco off-guard, causing heat to rush to his cheeks and, not for the first time, Draco cursed his light complexion; he just had to hope that the blush wasn’t showing, thought that was highly unlikely.
He was saved from responding, and from further embarrassment, by Bartholomew who joined them to properly introduce them. He knew that this wasn’t what his father would want for an introduction and that that was why Bartholomew looked so annoyed. However, Draco didn’t care much about what he thought, seeing as he didn’t have much power.
“It’s a pleasure meeting you both and I hope that you will find your stay here pleasant,” he stated in softly spoken Latin, finding it easier to distance himself a little when not speaking his native language. He offered his hand for Harry to shake, finding that that would be the polite way for them to introduce each other.

It was impossible not to notice the flush across the prince's cheeks, and it felt equally impossible for Harry not to smile at that. It wasn't much more than an upturning of the corners of his mouth, his lips parting once more as he wanted to speak.
From the context and the prince's answer, Harry had been able to path together that the advisor had hastily introduced them in his rushed French, yet the prince's insistence on speaking Latin made the tone of the conversation hard to read. Part of the execesrise of staying abroad was to practice his foreign languages, and Harry couldn't tell if the prince was trying to do them a courtesy or if he didn't have the patience for Harry's French.
Regardless, Harry's smile widened once more, still feeling almost giddy by the fact that the prince had blushed in their company.
"I am certain of that," Harry answered, finally in Latin. There was suddenly a distinctive air of formality in his words, feeling considerable more confident when speaking Latin.
The same confident was emitted by his movements, as he, without seemingly giving it a second thought, reached out for the prince's hand. Not considering them to be equals, Harry had barely processed that the gesture was intended to be a handshake. Instead, Harry leaned slightly forward in order to press a kiss to the prince's knuckles, just as he would have done so to Albus.
Harry's lips had barely left the prince's skin before a smile reappeared onto his features. As he straightened his posture, Harry kept the prince's hand in his own. "And I hope I will get to see you again, your Highness."
Only then did he let go of the other man's hand. Despite the formality of his words, Harry seemed at ease. "I am here to learn from you and your father, his Majesty the King."

The sudden kiss to his hand caught Draco off-guard once more. He hadn’t meant for it to be a gesture for Harry to feel like Draco’s subordinate, yet that was clearly how it had been read. Even if it wasn’t an abnormal reaction, Draco still found that the flush returned to his cheeks, the lingering of Harry’s touch causing his head to spin.
“I hope that you will find your stay here most fruitful,” Draco stated, more than pleased to be speaking Latin rather than French, it was a little easier to hade in the Latin, Draco found, so he was pretty pleased by his choice to switch.
“Now, I must leave you in the capable hands of Bartholomew, but I know that I will see you again very soon. Goodbye.”

As soon as the prince took his leave, Bartholomew was quick to urge the foreigners onward. The advisor had nodded with a short courtesy, before turning continue down the corridor. Harry himself was too caught up with the reappearing blush on the prince's fair complexion to even register his disappearance.
It was only when Minerva, too, took her leave with a Latin formality, brushing her hand against Harry's upper arm that Harry's eyes regained focus. Thoughtlessly, he glanced at his governess, before even having put two and two together.
"Your Highness," Harry muttered, already then being urged to follow Minerva.
There was still a smile on Harry's lips as he turned to look over his shoulder at the disappearing prince, only turning to look at his governess when they were several yards apart.
"Did I dream him?" Harry questioned in his everyday Greek. His voice was airy with either giddiness or surprise, and his smile inevitably widened as they followed the Frenchman's lead. "Did you see him, too, Minerva, or did I dream him?"

Even with Draco’s very limited Greek, he did manage to catch onto what Harry was saying to his governess and it did nothing to bring down the blush in his cheeks.
It was a strange sensation, seeing as Draco had long ago shut down for feelings like that about other men, knowing the exact risks of even thinking like that. Yet this foreigner had managed to get him to forget everything about it as soon as Draco had laid eyes on him and it absolutely floored him.
As he moved down the hallway, wanting to get to his bath as quickly as possible, he couldn’t help but steal glances at their guests; feeling both anxious and excited about what was to come.

It was several hours later when Harry was finally allowed into the Great Hall. After their run-in with the prince, Bartholomew had rushed them to what was to be Harry’s quarters, this time guiding them through what felt like a much more direct route. Once there, the advisor had suggested that they spent their time getting dressed for their viewing with the King and Queen.
The comment had once again sent Minerva fuming, seeing as the party had been dressed for their immediate welcome. Harry hadn’t taken it to heart, not minding an opportunity to change out of his travel clothes once it had been suggested that the prince would be attending, too.
When the great doors were finally opened for the viewing, Harry was wearing a cream set with golden beading across the lapels of the shirt, catching the parse sprinkle of golden laurels in his hair. Less impressed by the French, by his side, Minerva had changed from one dress to an identical one in blue.
Once it came to view, the Hall was nothing short of impressive. Walking the length of it towards the three raised thrones and the royal family seated in them, Harry felt miniscule. The ship of the room resembled a refurbished cathedral and so, Harry noted, he figured that the feeling of inferiority the room evoked was intentional.
Unbothered, an easy smile remained on Harry’s lips.
"Your Majesties, the appointed successor to emperor Albus of the Byzantine, Harry Potter," the now familiar voice of Bartholomew announced. "Accompanying him is his governess, Minerva."
Harry stopped several meters away from the throne, Minerva a step behind him. In her hand she carried a bundle wrapped in a heavily embroidered piece of purple silk. It was, however, not until the two Greeks accompanying them set down a heavy travel chest by Harry’s side that he spoke. The sound of the wood against the stone flooring reverberated against the walls, leaving Harry with an almost nonchalant expression, his lips parted in a mute smile as he waited for the silence to return.
“"our Highness," Harry finally said in French, meaning to address the King. He, however, didn’t fail to notice the presence of the Queen nor the prince, though his eyes didn’t linger. Delayed, Harry bowed. “We thank you for your hospitality in inviting us.”
With an even more intentional look of nonchalance, the King raised his chin at the young man in front of him.
"Harry," Lucius greeted. In contrary to his look of skepticism, his voice was smooth and practiced. "We are very pleased to have you. Know, that we consider you an extension of your guardian, the emperor, and your visit is an honor."
Somehow, Harry doubted that, making a corner of his mouth turn upward. Though many a European kingdom respected the Empire, Harry didn’t doubt that the notoriously stern French King was happy to go without Albus’ company. "I will hope that I do him justice."

In stark contrast to their earlier meeting, Draco was now freshly bathed and in a much sharper looking outfit. Everything about the clothing he was wearing was made to accentuate his more masculine traits, doing what it could to make his shoulders broader and his frame more severe. The set was a deep navy blue which made his grey eyes appear blue as well.
A golden crown rested on his white hair, the two bright tones contrasting each other beautifully and undermining everything the clothes set out to do.
While keeping an eye on their guests, Draco found himself unable to look directly at Harry.
The cream of his clothes looked beautiful against Harry’s darker skin and with the golden laurels in his hair, shining beautifully against the dark strands, Draco found himself getting too easily distracted by thoughts that he very much should not be having and his main focus quickly became to suppress those thoughts.

"On behalf of the Emperor," Harry continued, feeling that to be a natural continuation of the exchange. Though the King had appeared polite and interested, nothing about the gravity of the Great Hall, nor their distance, encouraged a long, intimate introduction. "- and the Byzantine, I bring you tokens of his gratitude."
At that, the two Greeks accompanying Harry once again stepped forward to yet again lift the chest. Harry knew they both spoke limited French, and that their actions were a reflection of their ability to read the room. As they reappeared in his line of sight, Harry's tensely formal posture relaxed ever so slightly.
Almost as an afterthought, he turned to reach out for the nearest of the two. His touch was soft as his hand gently landed on the other man's upper arm.
"Would you be so kind to present the chest to the prince?" Harry added in Greek. Neither Harry nor Albus had been aware of the fact that the crown prince's presence, and had, subsequently, not brought anything intended as a personal gift.
With only a nod, the two Greeks brought the chest to the raised stone platform; as instructed, the chest was settled off centered, in front of the prince rather than in front of the King and Queen.
This time allowing himself to directly adress the prince, Harry smiled. The prince truly was a work of art in his formal dress, yet Harry found that his mind went blank just the same as when he had seen him in his riding wear.
"To the kingdom of France," Harry said with a small delay, once again in French. There was a small hesitation as Harry considered adressing the prince in Latin, which, in turn, made him smile a little bit wider, flustered by his own fumble. "From the Emperor's personal collection."
Yet again perfectly able to read the course of the conversation by just tone alone, the chest was unlocked and opened, revealing several dozen bound books.

Despite the fact that Draco knew that it wasn't abnormal for him to be bestowed gifts as well as his parents, then he still found himself shocked that he was the first one to be addressed. He didn't even have to look over at his father to know that he wasn't too pleased by it either, but there was nothing to be done about it by now. Albus Dumbledore might be odd and have a rather spotty reputation, yet he was still far too powerful for Lucius to dare as much as think about disrespecting him.
Not wanting the scene to drag out unnecessarily, Draco took a glance at the chest, happy to see that it contained several books, most of them looking rather old and, Draco guessed, thus filled with valuable information.
"Thank you," he stated in his mother tongue, not seeing the point in changing the language of the conversation. He knew that Lucius detested having to speak Latin after all and he would absolutely loathe it if Draco did it for this, and Draco knew better than to allow something silly like that to start a fight.
"I am sure that they will prove as a valuable asset to our collection."

Harry smiled first, only thereafter figuring it was deserving of another bow. Harry didn't have many kingly interactions under his belt, and the informal eccentricity of the household he was raised in left an air of easiness to his gestures; when he once again straightened his posture, his gaze remained on the prince. The smile lingered and it was almost obvious Harry, with excitement, could easily have tied another several words to the chest of books; he, however, also seemed to have enough common sense to let the crown prince have the last word.
Instead, Harry's attention finally shifted to the King, though it was now transparently divided between the King and Minerva.
It only took Harry to part his lips for Minerva to approach the throne; in contrast to the two men carrying the chest, the governess stepped closer, positioning herself within reach of the King.
"For his Majesty," Harry started, another pleased little smile to his lips; his eyes, too, had fallen to the bright purple silk Minerva's hands. Harry thought that the King, too, eyes the golden embroidery with interest. "The Hippocratic Oath -"
Gingerly, Minerva removed the silk covering the almost two thousand year old book. This time, Harry could visibly see the look of disappointment in the King's eyes, as he yet again relaxed into his throne.
Disoriented by the blatant disinterest showed by their host, Harry's addition was spoken with a slight stumble. "- one of the few original copies surviving the fire of Alexandria."

Even if Draco had been very excited by the chest of book, it was nothing compared to how he felt about seeing the Hippocratic Oath.
Of course, he wasn't meant to know exactly what that was, but he knew just enough to know exactly what it meant for them to be presented with it. It was a huge honour and he also knew that his father would have absolutely no appreciation for it. There were very few languages of gifts that his father spoke and they were usually only relating to riches and not so much the treasures of knowledge; a fact that had made it incredibly difficult for Draco to get as scholarly involved as he wanted to, yet he kept managing to get more and more complicated litterature into the castle.
He couldn't wait to get to explore the contents of the chest, but he especially couldn't wait to get to actually read the Hippocratic Oath.

The silence that fell over the Grand Hall was deafening. The sound of Bartholomew stepping forward to accept the gift resonated against the stone walls; even the sound of the silk bundle exchanging hands seemed uncomfortably loud.
When Minerva turned around to return to her place by Harry's side, she looked mortified, pale with sheer helpless anger. Harry himself must have looked more startled than anything.
"Would that be all?" The King's voice, though not raised, was loud enough to make Harry blink. The sound of a speaking voice had quickly become foreign, after what had felt like an excrutiating silence.
It was only at that, that his frustration finally caught up with Harry. He momentarily clenched his teeth, hard, before answering. His voice was as polite as he could muster, though no smile showed in his expression. "Yes, your Majesty."
"The Kingdom thanks you for your generosity," Lucius answered, restrained. The carefully chosen expression of gratitude made Minerva shift her stance out of sheer annoyance; Harry himself stayed put, unfazed.
Finally, Harry regained enough control to conjure at least a small smile, for then to bow for he royal family. "It is my pleasure."

All Draco could think of was how badly he wanted to just sink into his chair and disappear from the face of the earth. His father’s reaction had been completely inexcusable and even if Draco knew that his father would absolutely never appreciate any book that wasn’t the holy bible, he still found that that kind of behaviour was exactly the reason they found it difficult to work with other nations.
Draco made a mental note of seeking out their guest later and extend an apology to him. Even if he knew that his father would never allow him to do that. Then again, his father couldn’t keep an eye on him constantly, so it would be fairly easy for him to sneak off to do that.
For now though, Draco kept his tongue, doing what he could to keep his face free of expressions, even if he was burning inside.

______________________________________________

The first few days in Louvre had been remarkably uneventful. Besides having had a tensely silent dinner with the King on the evening of his arrival, Harry had seen little to nothing of the royal family. The castle felt hauntingly uninhabited as Harry, on his first full day, had gotten a tour of its grand architecture; they hadn't come across a single person as they ventured through it. Suddenly faced with the genuine disinterest, the royal couple harbored towards him, the length of his stay had quickly become daunting.
It was only on his third day, that Bartholomew had offered to show Harry the city surrounding the keep, something, which Harry had gratefully accepted.
The royal adviser restlessly shifted his stance, as Harry and Minerva were sharing their parting words. The company had lingered in the courtyard adjacent to the stables, horses readied beside them; Harry had, intentionally, declined any Greek escort, including that of a translator. To Minerva, that made little sense.
"I don't expect riveting conversations, ma'am," Harrys said in greek, a humoured airiness to his voice. "I only think the poor man has been asked to entertain me for the day."

It had been a couple of days since the mortifying ordeal that was the meeting of the Greeks in the great hall and Draco still couldn’t let go of the fact that his father had been to rude to them. It was extremely embarrassing that the Greeks would think this of the entirety of the French folk and Draco hoped that their trip here wasn’t completely ruined by the rudeness of the king.
Draco had been spending the better part of his morning in the stables, having had a large row with his father earlier in the morning and needing to just not think for a while.
His horse, Eden, was almost shining with how white she was and he black saddle provided a beautiful contrast to the light fur. The stable boys had been hovering over him, having yet to get used to seeing their crown prince getting his own horse ready, but it was how Draco preferred it. He and Eden had a close bond and he liked to spend as much time with her as possible, also considering the fact that he didn’t have many other people to spend time with.
Figuring that she would be ready for a ride, Draco pulled her to the court yard, surprised to see it crowded with people and needing a moment to recognise them as the Greeks.
