The Fog (Metro/S.T.A.L.K.E.R. style post-apocalyptic RP)

The Fog is an older setting of mine, and even had a previous attempt here on CFRPG. Unfortunately, life got in the way and it never really took off. After some extra rewriting, I'd like to try it again.

The story takes place in post-apocalyptic Russia. Owing to the setting's inspirations, it's not a blasted-out desert. Nature is abundant and overtaking what remains of old world cities (think The Last of Us for that) while the world is very cold and cloudy (like Metro). There's mutants and monsters abound, both animals and people. Mutants made from people are of the 'mutations give superpowers' sort, but powers come at a price, usually some form of physical or mental handicap.

The end of the world was caused by dimensional transport experiments gone wrong, which led to a slow but steady decline in population as monsters and mutagenic fog leaked out into the modern (a little over a century into the future from our perspective) world. This led to a bunch of panic as the hordes carved their way across the world and killed millions. The actual apocalypse that followed was caused by a nuclear exchange, which succeeded in heavily reducing the numbers of the monsters, but also killed off a majority of humanity.

Our story takes place another 150 years after the end. Some parts of Europe have managed to create a relatively safe society, but it's dystopian in nature and has a zero tolerance policy toward mutants. Things are heavily policed and controlled, and anyone exhibiting even the smallest signs of mutation are rounded up for experimentation. This society is expanding, and its militaristic faction, the Black Wolf unit, have been sent into eastern Europe to try and tame it.

The portal facilities, used in the aforementioned transport experiments, are still running in Russia. This leads to a proportionally large population of mutants, as well as other threats. Physics-breaking anomalies, created from heavy amounts of the mutagenic energy from the other dimension, litter the country. Portal storms, the result of the facilities letting out excess energy, can tear apart a whole village in a moment, or mutate anyone caught up in them. But the energy also creates artifacts, objects imbued with the strange otherworldly power that have special abilities.

Along with all this, the world has a vague supernatural aspect to it. People are superstitious about a lot of stuff in the world, but some things are even weirder than ''normal.'' Is it ghosts? Is it hallucinations? Who knows!
