Naran Darre Pass, Takistan, Current Day
"Bravo zero niner, this is Victor tree seven, over!" the commander yelled into the handset amidst the staccato of machine gun and small arms fire. The random mortar and HE detonation punctuated the landscape.

"Victor tree seven, this is bravo zero niner, go ahead over," the voice on the other side of the radio responded.

"Zero niner, tree seven, I have contact at Romeo Golf zero eight tree zero tree seven, a platoon of infantry dug in supported by two Tangos, over!" An HE round exploded a hundred meters in front of the commander, accentuating the dire importance of the SITREP.

"Tree Seven, this is Zero Niner, that's a good copy. I'll send those coordinates to Red Legs, over." The Base Operations Center (BOC) received the transmission from the unit commander in the field and relayed the coordinates to the 4-42 FA (SP) in order to place hot steel on target on the hilltop south of Naran Darre pass. Within a minute and a half, the first spotting round landed in amongst the enemy infantry. The gun bunnies back at Cromwell had gotten lucky; no adjustments necessary. The forward observer, or FO called his Fire Direction Center (FDC) and let them know to Fire For Effect (FFE); the shot was good. Within several seconds the hilltop erupted with 155mm artillery shellfire and smoke.

Out of Character Information
I am looking for wargamers interested in assisting me with testing the wargaming rules I posted on the forums. You may notice the vehicles available in the rules are those used specifically with this Turkitan scenario, which is based on Arma II video game. I have included sufficient NATO vehicles to take the role of just about any NATO nations available. The terrain and people of Turkistan are similar to Afghanistan.

I am more interested in an infantry fight at the moment. once we complete this testing, then we can include the heavier vehicles. Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), Infantry Fighting Vehicles (IFVs) and light trucks are certainly welcom. We can even use indirect fire. I have not written up the rules on that, but how to execute is not that difficult. So, if you agree to participate you can use anything except tanks and aircraft.

This is a Role Play. In fact a wargame is a role play where two gamers take on the role of opposing commanders. Although, I will not ask you to design character sheets, you will put together a Unit Data Sheet (UDS). The UDS will contain a skeleton of the unit organization as listed below. You can name either every member of your unit (long and tedious) or simply name principle leaders (Platoon Leaders, squad leaders, platoon sergeant, Company Commander, XO and 1SG). My organizations list up to platoon level, but I will permit a full company if you wish to RP as a Company during a fight.

We can either fight a force on force of equal size where neither side starts at an advantage; A meeting engagement. Or we can have one side 1/3rd the size of the other with the small element dug in/fortified position; Attack/Defend.

Objectives of wargame experiment:
1. Are rules too cumbersome?
2. Too many rules? how to refine?
3. Do rules get in the way of the Role Play?
4. Should the "moderator" do all the dice rolling? or is it better to have the gamers do the rolling?

I intend to act as Moderator deciding outcomes of engagements, detailing the terrain, weather and unforeseen encounters with civilians (displaced persons) on the battlefield. I will give each player an Operations Order so they know what the mission and intent for their unit is.

Attitude | +
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "
