I have an idea for a world consisting mainly or large floating islands of land, repelled from the core of the Earth due to arcane crystal deposits within the Earth. At the current stage, Arcane has already embedded itself into the technology of the age, mainly operated through the crystals. The Earth is not exactly an abyss, the sun has been blotted out by thick black smoke during the Greater Calamity, an event which ripped the land from the Earth, and the Earth covered in a sea of molten rock, becoming the only source of natural light, save from rare shafts of light which manage to break through the black clouds.

Engines known as Warpieces run on this Crystals, some though a simple system, others through a more complex system which grants more efficiency. These Warpieces may be as large as a house, used to secure mining sites from the other nations and factions which had risen up or existed before the Greater Calamity. This is the setting I have managed to think up of. There may be other races live Elves and Dwarves in the setting, but I'm still considering it at the moment.
