Bio:
Rikouteiki is yet another experimental hybrid produced by Rayne Incorporated. Before her they were famous for their breakthroughs in genetic recombination that resulted in a creature they dubbed the drasilisk; half basilisk and half dragon. They were never forced to reveal how they obtained genetic material from either beast, presumably because most were in awe over such unique creatures. Most of them degenerated within a year, shortly after they matured. A single albino female lived and remains in their laboratory.
Rikouteiki is the result of blending the genetic material of the drasilisk with that of a human. Many attempts failed before the egg which spawned the pale hybrid was inseminated. Specialists from both the bioengineering and genetic research department were responsible for her initial development and subsequent birth. Experts in zoology and both human and veterinary medicine were consulted frequently until it was certain that the specimen was not only viable but also healthy.
She was the first successful specimen of such dissimilar species to live beyond twelve hours. Before her it was thought that genetically recombining a mammal and a reptile(never mind such a complex mammal and a hybrid reptile) wasn't feasible. Though she appears phenotypically to favor the human genetic material, an analysis of her chromosomes, and genetic structure indicates that reptilian traits are more dominant in most cases.
Rikouteiki matured rapidly until she turned ten years old. Her appearance, hormonal levels, and mental maturity have remained comparable to a human female in her 20s since that time. It was never conclusively determined whether the physical aging process continued after that time. Her creators ultimately became her captors.
She was never spoken to except to receive instruction for an experiment. She was referred to as it, or she, never by name. It wasn't until she found the notes and files they'd kept on her for twenty years that she took a name for herself. The scientists who'd created her had combined parts of their last names and formed the word "Rikouteiki" as the title of their project. It seemed that among the dozen scientists who worked on the project, there were several people of Japanese descent, and the two project leaders were Lithuanian and French. At the time, those things didn't mean much to her.
She wasn't given anything to do in the way of recreation; no books to read, no paper or implements to color or draw on paper, no toys, not even a mirror. The room was a dark gray with no windows, a single bed with a single thin blanket and single pillow, a tiny table and a worn folding chair. Most days she spent alone pacing the room in total silence. The only time anyone came was to leave a tray with bland food and a cup of water. She was given a clean pair of dull scrubs every other day to clothe herself.
The only real break in the monotony was when two people came into the room to administer the weekly medical testing to which she'd grown accustomed. It was during one of these medical visits that she'd learned why they kept her blindfolded. It wasn't to keep her from seeing the monstrous needles or the vials of her own dark magenta blood. She overheard them talking about her eyes and what they thought would happen if she looked at them.
So Rikouteiki waited until they came to do the tests again. Instead of sitting quietly in the chair and letting them stick her, she stood up and ignored their protests as she removed the piece of cloth from her eyes. She petrified the man who stuck her first. She used the other to get out of the room.
After that, she systematically made a sweep of the entire facility, which she learned was underground, and petrified everyone who was working in it that day. Once she'd done so, she found the research files pertaining to her existence as well as some of her medical files. She regretted not leaving someone alive (she presumed that turning them to stone killed them) to answer the questions she still had.
She searched the laboratory for the creature that had contributed partially to her birth, the drasilisk, but it was nowhere to be found. In a final fit of rage, Rikouteiki began tearing the lab apart. As she shrieked in frustration she discovered that she sometimes breathed fire. Rikouteiki figured out how to trigger the flames and left the facility burning when she left.
Rayne Inc recovered the video surveillance of the lab but was not legally able to pursue the albino young woman. The U.S. government had passed legislation that had granted Rikouteiki freedom; which they'd intended to deny her since the lab wasn't officially on their records. Since she'd taken her freedom by force they no longer had a say in whether or not they could track her movements.
Once out in the world, she quickly realized that she needed to keep her eyes hidden in order to attract less attention. She attracted quite a bit as it was being so ghostly. She never claimed to be blind, but many people assumed. They were kind to her and she did her best to return the favor. She never claimed to have amnesia when asking them questions about how things worked or why things were the way they were, people just assumed that was the only explanation for someone not knowing.
In that way, circulating in women's shelters and halfway houses she integrated herself into society bit by bit. She learned about different clothing styles, musical styles, club scenes, rave scenes, night clubs, cigarettes, alcohol, TV, the internet, cars, school, and many other things every other person took for granted.
Rikouteiki also realized that she could see almost as well blindfolded as she could without her eyes covered. She mused sometimes that she could see with sound because she felt its vibrations and she had grown up in such a quiet place. It didn't matter to her what the reason actually was, just that she could see. Sometimes she didn't even mind that people thought she was a leper or physically ill.
She developed a taste for visiting certain types of night clubs or occasionally attending a rave. The music appealed to her most, although the physical contact of another person was also fascinating to her. She never let anyone do more than rub her shoulder or stroke her hair, but she enjoyed it. Rikouteiki never lets on that she's a virgin, primarily to avoid awkward social encounters.
She's friendly and talkative in the right environment, flirtatious even, but most of the time she's content to sit in the background and observe others going about their business. She usually doesn't end up staying anywhere for very long because she's always paranoid that someone will come to take her back to the lab.
Even thought she has only been out in the "real world" for a year, Rikouteiki has surprisingly good social skills, and mostly good manners. She can come off as detached or flippant, although usually she is full of curiosity and only means to be playful. Her lack of social experience is painfully obvious once in a while and she doesn't deal with embarrassment well; normally she just leaves abruptly when this happens.
