December is a time when several holidays all fall around the same time. So I was wondering:

What are your plans for the holiday season?

I'm leaving on Saturday to visit a friend I made during my semester abroad and will be back next week. Then the week of Christmas I will be seeing my oldest sister and meeting my brother for the first time!

I'm also making lots of candies to give as Christmas gifts in between that time!

This year we were supposed to go and see my mother and youngest sister in their new house, however, due to financial trouble that does not look like it is happening. So, instead we are just going to stay home and do our usual thing, only this time we get to do it with my other sister (still younger than me). The whole family thing, just a little more organized.

We do that too in my family! Every year on the (approximately) first weekend of Christmas, my family, my uncle + aunt, and my dad's aunt + husband get together in our summerhouse and basically don't leave until we've enough candy to give all of Denmark diabetes. It's great.

As for my own holiday plans, well, nothing wild. I do have a 'Christmas lunch' with my old classmates here on the 12th, which isn't so much lunch as a party of eating lots and lots of fatty foods and getting blind drunk. Also playing the present game, which is probably my favorite thing about Christmas.

Gonna have a quiet Christmas Eve though, just us and my grandparents.

Well, next weekend is birthday weekend, so I'm going over to Orkney to see mother and my younger brother and sisters for the weekend. (not sure exactly what they have planned)
Then for christmas/new year (from the 23rd-3rd) we're going away to some little island somewhere kind of near where my moms family live, to have christmas, and there's going to be family and presents and food. etc. like the whole thing. and Even getting to see my big sister which is a massive thing for me right now.
But also, next week my grandad and uncle are coming up to see us before christmas as usually we'd go down there.

Kind of super excited for christmas though, and it's going to be my son's first christmas so kind of extra special ^_^ meeep.

I personally don't celebrate Christmas (it's a personal thing, really, nothing against it at all, I just don't personally celebrate), but it's a holiday, so I plan on resting, doing some things around the house (changing furniture places, deep cleaning, all that fun stuff), reading and writing, devotinh some more time to my blog, catching up on the bedspread I'm crocheting, and spending a few days away with the parents at an island nearby, if we can find a place to stay.

All in all, just unwinding and resting while doing things I can't usually do as much as I'd like because of work.

Christmas Eve we will head an hour north and spend the night and most of Christmas day with my in-laws. We do this every year. The Sunday after Christmas, we will have a belated Christmas with my family. At some point, maybe around New Year's, we will have a holiday party with our friends and their kids.

Christmas Eve is spent at church. The mass may start at 4PM but if you want to sit down, arrive by 3PM. The church is crowded on Christmas Eve.

We have four children, so the Christmas morning event of ripping opening gifts is always fun. Let's see what Santa Claus has brought. In the afternoon, we drive up to my inlaws for dinner and socializing with family. Sometime during the week between Christmas and New Year's we will drive out to my mother's house and exchange gifts with my family as well. My family is 2 hours west of where I live now.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "

This is the first time in a few years that the family is spending Christmas together.

My stepdad is reconciling with his daughter, spending an evening with her for the first time in ten years.

We're going to be spending most of our Christmas with my stepdad's family. I have been to their family reunions but I haven't really spoken to many of them, as a lot of them are out of state and such. I think it'll be fun.

But, sadly, we're thinking that this may be the last Christmas we spend with my grandfather on my mom's side. He hasn't been doing so well health-wise. So we're going to see them as well, probably to spend Christmas day with them and have breakfast at least.

Not really sure what I'm doing for New Years... Maybe I'll drink the rest of my Jack Daniel's lol

Sounds, do you get along with your step-sister? Is she near you in age? close geographically? or maybe you have grown distant?

My sepdad has a lot of kids, been married a few times before he met my mom; I get along with the ones I've met. I don't recall ever meeting Denise... Maybe before my mom and stepdad got married. They're all older than I am, and like I said most are out of state.

It'll just be my stpedad spending time with her. I'm happy for him.

I'm going to rest, enjoy family time, family cooking and binge on Christmas movies and maybe attend a few charity events while I'm at it.

I can hear what you're thinking, all your doubts and fears. And if you look in my eyes, in time you'll find the reason I'm here. And in time all things shall pass away in time, you may come back someday. You know your days are numbered. Count them one by one. Like notches in the handle of an outlaw's gun. You can outrun the devil if you try, but you'll never outrun the hands of time. In time, there'll surely come a day in time, all things shall pass away. In time, you may come back, some say. To live once more or die once more, but in time, your time will be no more.

Tell me, Ghost. Do you consider the original Die Hard movie to be a Christmas Movie?

I've watched Die Hard, but never around Christmas. Sounds like a tradition I should start!

*casually double posts*

Played the present game today, and it was beautiful. Basically, everyone gets a bunch of trash presents, put them all in one pile on a table, and then you roll dice to see if you can take one (or steal one from another!). It's a lot of fun. I got two little Nepalese bell ornaments, some homemade candy, a hideous gold picture frame with an elephant in it, some paper New Year-decorations, and - wait for it - 4 lbs of clay.

Good haul, all in all.

Sounds like everyone has some pretty good plans all in all.

We don't really celebrate Christmas either, but since my sister is coming and we're meeting our brother I feel like my mom is a little more into it this year. She insisted on no bought gifts but is totally pushing us to make things. She also got my stepdad to pressure wash the windows. That's never been done in my approx. six years of knowing him!
