I'm from further South, in the Capital. Right now, I live in Bahia, though, way further North of the Country.

I would think it would be warmer as you go further north. Bahia is north of Rio.

"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "

Yup. But I'm closer to the sea here, so that might influence the fact that the weather is milder.

Snow days. I believe we are cancelling summer vacation this year due to the unexpected arrival of winter vacation.

I probably won't have a summer vacation since I plan to finish college by the fall.

Good luck with that, DJ. I went to college after I came off active duty from the Army. I spent two years in a Community College, got an Associates in Criminal Justice. Then I did one semester at a State University. Spent the next semester at a military school in Georgia. Came back home and spent another two years at the same State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science. It all helped me acquire a commission in the Army National Guard.

I cannot comment on the Guard today. I've been out for 11 years ago. I remember when I first joined in the 80s, it was crap. The soldiers were weak and looked like ****. The numbers were also bad. They were a result of what we called, "The Old Guard" who came out of the Vietnam War and didn't really want to play anymore. But in the 1980s, there were a lot of young soldiers coming off active duty. Ronald Reagan built up the military in the 80s and when they left active service in the late 80s, they all gravitated to the Guard, including myself. I met quite a few Airborne Rangers, Special Forces troopers and Marines who knew their ****. We eventually weeded out the Old Guard and standards went up tenfold. It got a lot better throughout the 1990s. Strength in the units was going up as well. But the 2000s brought many deployments to the Balkans and the Middle East. Having a High Operation Tempo tends to wear down units. When a soldier returns from a combat zone, they more often than not, leave the military and return to civilian life. The units lose a lot of experienced soldiers, but recruiting remains high. Honestly, I have no idea what the Guard is like today.

They didn't speak much about it either. Just a few things they did while there.

In other news, I'm going to a concert tonight.

Who's playing at the concert, DJ? c:
I'd love to go to a concert but unfortunately all the bands I like are either disbanded or the members are dead.

Should I let my 8-year old play football next fall? I told him previously that he should wait till he gets to Middle School, which would be another three years away. I'm concerned more with the cost and time commitment than anything. That was the primary reason for pushing it off three years. Since this is a full contact sport with pads and helmets, there is also the risk of head injuries. That is a concern, but it will be a concern when he is 11 just as it is when he is 8.

I would wait, for consistency and to make sure he will still want it when he's 11. Maybe you could do something at home until he reaches that age?

I, for one, really wish I had joined groups or sports at a younger age. I was in field-hockey in my preteens and I couldn't compete with most of the girls, who had been doing it since they were much younger.

Gunther I did not know you had a long military career. I was in high school during the Reagan years. Had friends in Desert Storm and husband that serve on Ballistic Missile submarine. I am in Ga, north of Atlanta. We divorced in 2009. Been in college since. On paper have one year left. My baby is now 27. Thank you for your service. I still believe in "peace through strength". Mom worked for American Security Council out side Culpepper, Va. still remember the Cold War. I don't think is over.
