Alright! I know that for the moment, we don't have enough people to get this rolling, but I figured I would give everyone all the info they need to decide whether or not they are actually interested. Some things may be added or changed, but this is the basic stuff you need to know before we get started. - Plot | +
- Long ago the world fell into chaos, a war brought about when two siblings, one who wielded the power of darkness, and the other who wielded the power of ice, clashed. Aeron, who had finally succumbed to the darkness within himself, sought to destroy his sister, Isolde, and rule the world on his own. A new world of his own making. Isolde, not wanting to see their world plunged into darkness, fought back. After defeating her brother and becoming the new vessel for the darkness, keeping it in check with her own magic for centuries, until she finally transferred it into a new vessel, Dardanos, the prince of Ciardah. Unable to keep the darkness in check, Dardanos lost control and the world was once again faced with war. The war stretched on for years, until Dardanos (now known as Dardanos, the Devourer) and his kingdom finally suffered a crushing defeat at the hands of the kingdom of Argus. With the end of the war, the world ushered in a new era of peace, but that peace had come at a cost. The kingdom of Argus was all but decimated, and those citizens who lived were forced to start their lives over in a new kingdom.
Now, after centuries of peace, the world will once again be faced with war. After years spent in exile, living among the ruins of his old kingdom with no one but his wraiths and other dark creatures to keep him company, Dardanos is finally ready to make his move. The kingdoms, weakened by centuries of peace, will soon face a darkness far greater than they can imagine at the hands of the dark mage who seeks to exact his revenge on the kingdoms that once defeated him. This revenge can end one of two ways. Either he gets what he wants and brings the kingdoms to their knees, plunging the world into darkness, or he is killed by the one person whose magic was meant to stop him, whose destiny is to face him. Either way, a war is inevitable, lives will be lost no matter the outcome, but whether victory goes to the dark mage or the kingdoms that scorned him is yet to be decided. Will he succeed in his quest for revenge? Or will he face defeat once more?
- Forms of "Immortality" | +
- Immortality: One who is immortal is, by definition, ageless and capable of recovering from almost any injury they may sustain, including being stabbed through the heart, or even potential beheading if the immortal is strong enough and the injury is not caused by a weapon capable of killing them. They typically recover at a highly accelerated rate, making them capable of recovering from a minor injury in minutes rather than days. No one is truly immortal, however. Everyone has weaknesses and something that can permanently kill them. For example, certain magic/spells, a particular weapon or a weapon made from a specific material or enchanted with particular magic, etc.. Those with true immorality are typically wielders of powerful and/or ancient magic, including faeries and certain practitioners of magic, such as the queen of ice and the vessel of the darkness.
Semi-Immortality: Those that are semi-immortal are ageless and do not grow ill. Depending on the race/creature, they may also recover from injuries at an accelerated rate, although not quite so quickly as an immortal. (For example, an injury that an immortal could recover from in minutes may take hours or even a day for a semi-immortal to recover from, whereas it may take several days or longer for a human to recover from the same injury). They will not die of old age, nor any other "natural" cause. They may, however, be killed by severe physical injury, such as decapitation or being stabbed through the heart. Semi-immortality is held by races such as elves and dragons.
Extended lifespan: Some races may have an unusually long lifespan, ranging from a hundred years to over a thousand years. These races/creatures typically have the same weaknesses as any other mortal, they simply live an extended life. Examples include Ents, dwarves, and certain human bloodlines.
Rebirth: Those with this ability will either live out a normal life (which is likely longer than the lifespan of a human) and, upon their death, be reborn, or there may be a specified number of years between each rebirth. After their rebirth they will not remember their past life/lives. This is generally specific to Phoenix, although it is not impossible that a practitioner of magic could mimic this if they were unable to manage true immortality.
Healing/regeneration: There are some races capable of healing even the most extensive of injuries and even rejuvenating or maintaining youthfulness. This can mimic an extended lifespan, or potentially even semi-immortality, if the magic is strong enough. Merfolks, sirens, and some practitioners of magic are some of those that have this ability.
- Examples of races & Supernatural beings | +
- Witches/Wizards/Sorcerers/other practitioners of magic: This is not a race, but rather a group of supernatural beings that encompasses many races, from humans to dragons and merfolk. At least some small fraction of individuals among most races practice magic in some form or another. For some it is a learned skill and for others it is an innate ability, making magic something they are capable of from a very young age. There are many forms of magic, ranging from dark magic to magic that focuses on nature, healing magic to battle magic, elemental magic to spirit magic, arcane magic to traditional magic. Some practice only one form of magic, while some may dabble in several different forms of magic. Most tend to specialize in one or two types while dabbling in others, or in some cases. There is no one known who is an expert, or even exceptional at all forms of magic. The older a magic practitioner is, the more likely they are to be skilled in more than one form of magic. **Some races are limited in the types of magic they can perform.** For example, a dragon born with the ability to use fire magic cannot use water magic, no matter how old or talented they are.
Dragons: Dragons are not exactly what you might expect. While they may take the form that many have grown to accept, they also have a human form. In their dragon form, they are much like you would expect, fire-breathers, capable of flight, with nearly impenetrable scales. In their human form they have an innate ability to use pyro-magic. They are semi-immortal, so their appearance is ageless. Otherwise, they typically appear to simply be human. All full-blooded dragons are capable of shifting their shape and doing so freely. Half-blooded dragons are sometimes born with the same capability, whereas others may be born with only one form, which will be whatever form they are born with. The more dilute the bloodline, the more likely it is that the child will be born with only one state. The majority of dragons live in the kingdom of Pyralis. **There are some frost dragons who use ice magic rather than pyro-magic and reside in Eirwen. They are not as common, but they do exist.
Wyverns: Wyverns are very similar to dragons, with a few notable differences. In their non-human form, they are smaller than dragons, with their wings attached to their arms, rather than having four legs as dragons do. They are faster than dragons, but not as strong or as powerful. Like dragons, most of them live in Pyralis, but some who utilize ice magic do reside in Eirwen.
Phoenix: Phoenix, like dragons, are slightly different than you might expect. Some are born with the ability to shift between the traditional form of a phoenix or a human form, while others are born trapped in one form. Others still are born with a hybrid form, part phoenix and part human. Like dragons, those with a human form are capable of using pyro-magic. Phoenix are the only race born with the ability to rebirth. Some may be reborn at specified intervals, for example, once a century, although they will also be reborn if they are killed before their rebirth cycle. Others may be reborn only once they die, and otherwise will live an indeterminate amount of time between rebirths. The way in which they are reborn depends on their lineage. Whichever way the rebirth occurs, they will not remember their past life/lives when they are reborn. Like dragons, many of them inhabit the kingdom of pyralis.
Ents: Ents are tree-like creatures that live in the forests across the land and care for them. They are capable of using some natural magic but are typically limited to spells that involves plants. They are large in stature, strong but slow, and they live long lives, typically several centuries. If ents are found outside of the forests, in civilization, it is typically tarren.
Faeries: Faeries come in many shapes, sizes, and types. The fae are typically immortal and can only be killed by certain things, including weapons made of silver. Most Fae are capable of some form of magic, which may include glamor (illusions), sight (the ability to see things beyond what is normal, such as future events), mesmer magic (altering the mind, particularly memories), enchantments, healing, teleportation, and other various types of magic. The type of magic used largely depends on the type of faery, as well as whether the faery is seelie or unseelie, good or bad. Faeries typically do not live among the humans, but in their own realm. Some faeries do visit the human realm, and there are a few that choose to reside there most, if not nearly all the time, but it is not common. ** I can put up some different types of faeries, if needed. Otherwise, if you are interested in playing a particular type of faery, just let me know and we can discuss it, and if there is anything used outside of typical lore, I will let you know. :) **
Elves: Elves aren't much different than you might expect. They are tall, fair, known for their beauty, their skill with a bow, and their craftsmanship. Many elves do practice elvish magic, which may involve sight, protective magic, healing magic, and magic revolving around nature. There are some elves that use battle magic, but it is less common, as the elves tend to be a peaceful people. Elves are semi-immortal, untouched by illness or age. Many of them once lived in the kingdom of Argus, before it's destruction. Now some can be found in Tarren, while others choose to live in the forests, outside of the bounds of any particular kingdom.
Wraiths: Wraiths are largely created by Dardanos. They are shells of their former selves, hollow husks left after Dardanos devoured their souls. They do not think. Their conscious minds, their free-will, their ability to think and choose has been ripped from them along with their soul, leaving them with a singular thought that plagues every moment of their miserable lives--typically, whatever haunted their mind just before their death. Now they are mindless shells, neither living nor dead, at the command of Dardanos. They reside with Dardanos in the remains of Ciardah.
Sirens: Sirens are a more uncommon race that live in the waters near Cordelia, but not in Cordelia. They are capable of healing and regeneration magic, but typically use it only for themselves. They typically use glamor and Mesmer magic to lure their targets to them in the water. They feed on the energy of those they call to them, allowing them to grow stronger, or at the very least to maintain their strength. There are some that do not use their magic in this manner and choose to live peacefully in Cordelia, gathering energy by other means, but those who choose to live this way are few.
Mermaids/merfolk: Merfolks make up a lot of the population of the underwater portion of Cordelia, along with water sprites, and a few sirens. They use a lot of water-based magic, as well as healing magic. The more powerful merfolk are capable of healing and regenerating both themselves and others, thus allowing them to live extensively long lifespans. Merfolk are not only capable of swimming and breathing underwater, but may also choose to walk on land and breathe air, although not many use this ability often, and the length of time it may be accomplished varies (very few can use this ability indefinitely).
Kitsune: Kitsune are fox creatures and shapeshifters with an extended lifespan, ranging from several hundred years to well over a thousand years. Unlike dragons and phoenixes, the kitsune are not born with the ability to shift forms, but rather acquire this form later in life, as their powers grow, regardless of whether they are half-bloods or pure-bloods. Typically, a kitsune will be born to a fox form and after around 100 years (50 in rare cases), the kitsune will acquire the ability to shift into a human form. In some cases, particularly those involving a human mother to a half-kitsune child, the process is reversed. Additionally, in their fox form, the kitsune will grow an extra tail for each 100 years of life, until they reach 9 tails. With each 100 years and each new tail, their power grows. Kitsune are typically known for their use of lightning magic, although, less commonly, there are some that may use pyro-magic. Thus, kitsune are most often found in Tora.
Humans: Humans are mortal, although those that practice magic, particularly those that are blessed, cursed, or otherwise born with innate magic, are capable of some form of extended life or even immortality, if they are powerful enough. There are some humans born of certain bloodlines that are strong in magic that are born with immortality, but this is not common and is usually limited to ancient bloodlines or those that have had magic bestowed on them by Fae, those that are cursed with immortality at a price, or those otherwise blessed with it. Examples of humans born with or granted immortality for one reason or another are Dardanos and the queen of snow, Eira. There are humans in every kingdom, some kingdoms are made up mostly of humans, while others do not have many.
Other races: This list is not necessarily all-inclusive. If you have a race that you would like to play but it isn't listed here, feel free to request it and if it isn't one I originally had in the world, I'll be happy to discuss it with you and work out the details so that we can try to fit it into this world. :)
There are many kingdoms throughout the world, each based on an element. Each kingdom has a ruler, whether it be a king or a queen, heirs (princesses and/or princes), and of course, nobles, commoners, and so on and so forth. These rulers meet from time to time and form a council of kingdoms. This is basically to keep the kingdoms at peace and in good standing with one another, as well as allowing for the continued trade and such between kingdoms. There is a head of the council, who does not necessarily rule over the other kingdoms, but does oversee things in the council and is generally well respected among the other members of the council. This head has the ability to call a meeting, bring an end to a meeting, and mediate disputes and other issues that arise during meetings. In the event of a vote that ends in a tie, they have the deciding vote. - Kingdoms | +
- Amun - Kingdom of air
Argus - Kingdom of light (Now ruins and the meeting place for the council) Ciardah - Kingdom of darkness (Now ruins) Cordelia - Kingdom of water Eirwen - Kingdom of winter (snow and ice) Pyralis - Kingdom of fire Tarren - Kingdom of earth Tora - Kingdom of Lightning
*If you want information about any particular kingdom (for example, if you are interested in playing a ruler and want to know what your potential kingdom is like), just PM me and I will be happy to go over all of the ideas I have for the particular kingdom (types of people, how their government may work, what type of military they have, imports/exports, etc.) Alternately, if everyone wants the information, I can just post it all here.
- Rulers | +
- Eirwen - Queen Eira - Taken. No heirs.
Pyralis - King Julian, Prince Andras, Prince Kai, Princess Seirian - King and Andras can be picked up, unsure on Kai. Cordelia - King Emiyn, Prince Dylan, Princess Assana - Taken Amun - Queen Awel and Princess Isaure - Both are open Tora - King Tarran and Prince Tore - Prince is taken, the King is NPC (can be picked up) Tarren - King Dimitur, Princess Elwyd, and Prince Demetrius - All three are open
*The names of the rulers are not set in stone. These are just the names I had chosen for them in the story version. Genders may be changed (a queen in place of king and vice versa. Same goes for heirs) or an additional ruler (max of two) or heir may be added. I mainly just tried to give each kingdom a ruler and heirs. Most of the kingdoms (Eirwen excluded) likely have both a king and a queen (unless they are deceased), I simply listed the primary ruler. Feel free to pick up the spouse if you would like.
Here is a character sheet. You may add to it or change the formatting as you wish, just make sure that all of the necessary information is covered. :) - Character Sheet | +
- Name:
Age: If the character is immortal or semi-immortal, include how old they appear. Gender: Appearance: General appearance (height, weight, build, hair color, eye color, etc.), anything odd in their physical appearance, how they dress, even how they carry themselves may be added here, if you wish. Be as specific as you like, as long as you cover the basics. Race: Race + class, if you have one, such as witch, sorcerer, archer, etc. (Ex. Human, practitioner of fire magic) Mortality: Mortal, immortal, semi-immortal, etc. goes here. Kingdom: List the kingdom. If they are a rogue, nomad, or something of the like, specify that and if they were ever a part of a kingdom. - -If you are interested and know what kind of character you want to make, you are welcome to post your CS here for approval. If you have an idea but want some help working out the details, just want to run it by me, or if you just need some ideas, feel free to PM me. I'll be happy to help in any way I can.
-I will approve the characters and keep a list here of those involved, so if you want to shoot me a PM with your character info before you post, you are welcome to, otherwise I'll add you to the list when I approve the character, or PM you if there is anything that needs to be changed. I'm not going to be super nit-picky when approving, meaning that if there are minor things that need to be adjusted or just mistakes, I'll likely accept it temporarily and let you know in a PM what needs to be changed before it is final, so don't worry about it being 100% perfect when you post.
-If you plan on using a race that isn't listed, that is absolutely fine, but please talk to me first so we can work out the details and I can approve it and add it to the list. This will help avoid any confusion.
-Immortal, semi-immortal, and other such characters are great, but before you begin putting the work into a character like that, I would prefer that you run your character by me. The world is built so that these types of characters can be used without being terribly over-powered because they are not super rare to come across, however, I would prefer to keep a relative balance in character types, so I don't want an influx of immortal characters and no mortals, or at least semi-immortals. I won't put a specific cap on any type of character unless it's needed, I'd just like to approve them before you get started so that, in the event that there are too many of one type, I can let you know before you put too much work into it.
-Just a tip: You are absolutely welcome to make whatever type of character you want. Let your imagination run wild! Just be careful that you have a way to fit the character into the story. If you want to play a wandering thief, then go for it! Just make sure you know how and why they will end up wrapped up in the war, to what extent, how they will be involved in events, and so on.
-Collaborating: You are more than welcome to collaborate with others on posts, especially if you are interacting separately from the main group and don't want to spam up the thread with your posts. Obviously, if you collaborate, make sure you somehow distinguish one character's part from the other (with colored text, for example) and make sure credit is given to the other writer. Otherwise, have at it! Collaborate to your heart's content!
- Posting order: Because I know that someone will inevitably ask about this, I'll get it out of the way now. There will not be a specific posting order for the majority of the RP. I find that they often hold the RP up unnecessarily. My current plan is to have open posting to start with, once everyone gets their initial post in, as I don't generally see a point in holding up interaction between characters because an unrelated character has not posted. Hopefully that will speed up the beginning of the RP so that we can get to the interesting stuff. Once we get into the meat of it, when some order is needed, or at least desirable, I may put in a round-based posting order, where I will start the round and everyone else can post in whatever order they want during the round. I may have the rounds timed, to avoid extensive periods of no posting, so in these instances, I will ask that you let me know if you won't be able to post during a round so that we can come up with a game plan (extend the round, skip your turn for a single round, or whatever the case may be). I don't want to leave anyone behind! I also don't want to RP to die because someone was gone for two months and didn't let us know, especially if their character isn't crucial to that particular portion of the plot. This isn't set in stone, so feel free to provide feedback on this.
-Lastly, the obvious things. *No god modding. *Keep posts up to board standards in both length and grammar. *Try to keep things civil. We are all here to have fun, so let's make sure everyone enjoys themselves! *Have fun and be creative! There is literally an entire world full of possibilities just waiting to be discovered. Do your thing!
Let me know if you have any questions! ---------------- The in character thread is posted here.
