She has pale skin, strong laugh lines around her mouth, and walks with surprising height and dignity. Her eyes are hazel and, on occasion, she wears makeup. Emeline often wears a trademark witch hat, which she enchants different colours according to her outfit, usually a cloak and patterned dress. She also has relatively good broomstick skills from her time as a chaser on the Hufflepuff quidditch team. Is a particularly good finder if you get this reference eyyy fifty points to dumbledore. Personality: Emeline is exuberant, brisk, and carries herself with slight pomp. She greatly enjoys words and what they can do, from simile to alliteration, and often times will spill this love into normal conversation. She seems somewhat scattered from her energized speech and attitude but is quite organized and attentive. Emeline is helpful and loyal, as most Hufflepuffs are, and puts her heart into the work she loves. However, she is quite anxious and worries constantly about things going wrong or her being humiliated, making her a person more fit to take safe paths in life. Emeline is also quite closed off, despite her welcoming and talkative demeanor. She believes her troubles are solely her own, and won't speak unless coerced. She is friendly to most and doesn't believe in negative reinforcement, sometimes leading her to be a more lax teacher than perhaps she should be. Her big heart leads her to give house points away like Hallowe'en candy, and most students know this. Emeline has a habit of guessing people's wand wood and core before seeing it. Relationship status: Single Family (parents, siblings, children): Arvalius Pineheart (father; living), Margarite Pineheart (mother; deceased), Fenning Pineheart (brother; living), Torbin Pineheart (brother; living), Zenalia Sharp (sister; living), Tanbury Pineheart (sister; deceased), Melania Pinehart (sister; living) Background from birth to the current moment: Emeline was born as the youngest of a large family with two brothers and three sisters. Their father was a well-known wand-maker, specializing in wands for dueling; mainly aspen, red oak, and elm. Many of Emeline's earliest memories are of her sitting in her father's shop on his desk, watching magical sparks colours, and occasionally small explosions issue from his work. She was by far the most interested in the process of wand-making, but the business was destined to go to the eldest brother, Fenning. It was long believed that Emeline was in fact a Squib, showing a significant lack of magical development. It wasn't until she was nine that she showed signs of magic ability after sneaking into her father's study to look at his newest set of wands. She picked one up, gave it a single swish, and broke all of the windows in their home and the adjacent neighbours'. Living in a full wizarding community, it was no issue, though her father was furious and barred her from his study and workshop for a full two years. This was a devastating blow to Emeline. She spent the years focusing on her community's quidditch team practices instead. It was a gift then, when her father crafted her her very own wand a year before it was intended she go to Hogwarts, something he had only done for Fenning previously. The larch and unicorn hair wand chose her well, as great thought and time went into its creation. When it was time to go to school, however, Hogwarts was no longer safe. The Pinehearts were forced to send their already enrolled children to the school, but managed to keep Emeline's existence a secret at great cost. Her father was taken and forced into making superior wands for Voldemort's Death Eaters and sympathizers. Emeline's mother was killed in an attempt to stop him from being dragged from their home, in sight of her hiding daughter. Emeline became one of the many children on the run, with no cultivated skills or abilities. She lived where she felt safe, mainly in the wild, narrowly avoiding Snatchers on several occasions. This was not by any skill or talent on Emeline's part, but luck. Her only possession was the wand her father had given her, which became her charm of hope, as it instilled her with courage; a common characteristic of larch wands. It was perhaps the only reason she, a quiet, fearful girl, survived. It was then Emeline encountered a griffin, chained to the ground and in pain. Emeline attempted to free the creature, pulling at the chains and crying. In a desperate attempt, Emeline pulled her wand out of her pocket and performed the alohomora spell. The spell was extremely effective, powered by raw emotion. The shackles exploded away from the creature, and her wand met the same fate. Emeline gather the pieces in tears, and found herself gently nudged by the griffin she had saved. He, named Akhurst by Emeline, became her protector, though his wounds slowly ate away at him. Emeline couldn't help him, and only watched as he grew weaker by the day, a result of some curse used on him by his captors. At the end of the war, Emeline was sent a powerful patronus message from her father, the spell tracking her down through a powerful memory, and gave her a simple, dry message. The war is over. Come home. Akhurst allowed Emeline to climb on his back for the first, and last time, bringing her outside of a nearby wizarding village. Their goodbye was brief, Akhurst giving her a final nudge before trotting briskly back into the woods. It was only later in life that Emeline realized that Akhurst had left in order to die away from her eyes. He left behind two wing feathers, which Emeline pocketed alongside her wand fragments. Once she was in town, Emeline recited her name and address to the closest witch, and was escorted home by extremely disgruntled members of the Department of Lost Things, who through the coming months would recover and return many missing and kidnapped children to their homes. She came home to her family, who were busy repairing their ransacked home. Emeline learned that her middle sister, Tanbury, had died during The Battle of Hogwarts. They had a sober funeral for her and their mother. They shared what they were willing of what had happened during their time apart. Emeline's family refused to believe her story of the griffin until she pulled out one of the feathers. After great coercing from her family, convincing her that the money would be used for something good-namely, restoring their lives-Emeline agreed to sell the valuable feather. She kept the second hidden. Scarred by his experience, their father lost his passion for wand-making and retired, giving the business to Fenning. While Emeline was hurt by the choice, she understood, and was more troubled by the grief in her heart. Emeline herself had not been left whole from her own experience. The uncertainty and danger of Emeline's time alone caused her to become even more tentative than previous, and developed a fear of being alone for long periods of time. After showing the broken shards of her wand to Fenning, he set about making Emeline a new wand. Emeline showed the second griffin feather to Fenning in secret, suggesting it be used as the core. Fenning initially refused, as a griffin feather had never been used in a wand before, but Emeline insisted, feeling it would connect her once again to her lost friend. He eventually agreed, and the chestnut and griffin feather wand was created. One discovered quirk of the wand was that it was warm to the touch of friends, and cold to enemies. Emeline went to Hogwarts the following year, and much to the reverse of her family of Ravenclaws and Gryffindors (save her mother, who had attended Castelobruxo and immigrated to the UK), Emeline was Sorted into Hufflepuff. This was a blow to the girl, as she had always been very close to her family, and didn't want to be left alone again. Her attempts at making friends were weak due to her timorous nature, but perhaps the kindness of Hufflepuffs allowed her to grow out of her fear, though it would always linger in her life choices. Emeline never found a class she truly enjoyed or excelled at until Care of Magical Creatures. Her love of Ahkurst trickled to all magical species, and she studied hard in the course, achieving Outstanding for her O.W.L. and N.E.W.T. She also had another Outstanding in Charms. All other grades were at satisfactory levels through a mixture of Acceptables and Exceeds Expectations, save Astronomy, which remained a Poor, no matter what she attempted. Through her years at Hogwarts, Emeline changed and developed greatly. she 'grew out of her shell' so to speak, and became bolder and friendlier, though she still stayed within a well-defined comfort zone. That comfort zone was poked through in year five, when a close friend convinced her to try out for a chaser position on the school team. Emeline got in, and became a well-known face through her year for her tenacious playing style. After graduation, Emeline assisted in the wand-making shop for two years before encountering Brennus Lee, a magizoologist who entered their shop seeking a chestnut model. He was paradoxically plump and fit, old but full of life. Emeline had idolized Brennus since she had read his book series on XXXX rated magical beasts, her personal favourite being the griffin installment. She struck up a conversation with him about his books, during which he called her a "delightful young woman". Doing perhaps the only non-planned, spontaneous thing in her life, Emeline asked Brennus if he would take her on as his apprentice. He agreed after testing her heavily on a variety of magical creatures. The pair became close, traveling the world and studying a variety of beasts, from fairies to werewolves (the two lobbied against werewolves being classified as 'creatures', suggesting a new definition be made, but were refuted as many before them had been). They worked together for five years before Emeline decided to apply for the open position as Care of Magical Creatures professor at Hogwarts, and was deemed 'the safest teacher yet!'. After four years of working as a professor she was offered the position of Head of House, which she accepted, partially for the pay rise to help fund her own personal projects. Emeline has yet to build a strong rapport with her colleagues, and continues to write to Brennus, her siblings, and Avery, a close friend from her years at Hogwarts. Misc: Emeline is terrible when it comes to directions, and often gets lost within the castle and has to magic her way out. This is likely one of the factors as to why she is horrid at astronomy.
