Story
In a land forgotten by the passage of time, Nine Kingdoms, living in perfect harmony, give birth to a group of Adventurous Souls, Malencia, and its Nine Heavens... But even the Heavens, have their Demons. Let us start... From the beginning.

In the year 70XX, on the day of March fifth, Science was reaching new boundaries, as the discovery of Magic opened new possibilities. Magic, Science, and Technology. Three things that should never have mixed. During the initial test of Marcus Le Broch's 'Mana Converter', a device that, theoretically, would have used the Earth's energy to power everything on the planet in an attempt at peace, due to a miscalculation the Mana Cartridge shattered, sending blasts of unbalanced Magic coursing through the planet, piercing the Earth's Core. It caused the entire planet to change; Winters became Spring, Ice became Steam. The world was thrown into a chaos, as cataclysmic events began occurring more and more rapidly.

With no laws binding what Magic could and could not do, Written Fables became our Enemies, and our Allies. From Dragons to Hobbits. From Orcs to Elves. There were no limits, there was no end. Soon the Continents began to shift, slowly converging upon one section, before veins of molten lava hardened at every edge, forming one land, in an endless sea. The world, was resetting itself, the original continent returned, and time itself stopped altogether, as the Perpetual Night fell upon the world, and a new Age of Ice began. But it wasn't for long - the Ice Age ended, as the ocean defied all Laws, and all water became Magma. We needed to end this, Magic needed to be bound, but how? We humans turned to the one thing that never failed, Fantasy Gods.

From Thor of the Norse, to Zeus of Greece, to Ra of Egypt. We went to these 'Heroes' seeking aid in this uncontrollable war, but what we got was slavery. Humans were nothing to these Gods, the Immortals. Forced to serve the very creations of our own, our efforts were rendered obsolete. Forced to live in a world of Demons, Angels, and Creatures Galore, Humans were no more than a nuisance, that could easily be wiped off the planet. But within this Chaos, within this Madness, where no Harmony existed, one light shined brightly, slumbering for millennia, as the Natural balance of Discord & Harmony favored the side of Discord, a Guardian rose, having the powers of Magic itself.

He soothed the Crimson Sea, he Calmed of Sky of Storms. He Vanquished the Gods & Goddesses of Mythos, Turned the Undead, and Locked away the Ascendant Beings. With Magic Bound, he turned lava to water once more, and cleared the skies. With utter disgust, he wiped everything off of the face of the Earth, Humans vanished instantly, Elves tried to hide but failed, and the rest was history.

Now with a clean slate, he separated the land into Four islands, connected by Ley Gates, and one each Land, he recreated the Balance. That which was lost so many years ago from a simple miscalculation, he brought back with a snap of his fingers. But what good was a clean slate if there was nothing upon it? So he slowly brought back the races he had wiped out. Though he was tactical in who he brought back and where they went. After all, just because he was ready to write on this slate, didn’t mean he wanted to reverse his own work completely.

In the South, Orcs, Goblins, Dragons, and the Undead battled for control over the Mountains. Though usually an inhospitable place, these species always thrived well in the peaks and crevices created by the towering mounds of rocks. Thus that is where the Guardian placed them. In the North, Angels and Demons became locked in an eternal war for power and position Every now and then, this war affected other lands, but usually it was well contained in the northern lands. In the West, Humans and Elves lived in a peaceful coexistence, trading to remains allies in this place of new-found life. Out of all the races, they remembered the instant panic of being wiped from the face of the Earth the best. For somehow, they knew even if they didn’t remember. Thus they had both come to an easy agreement to make sure that nothing like that had to happen again. And finally in the East, the Beasts of Fantasy were placed together, living in a wild land.

His work was almost done. The world was in controlled Chaos and now all he had to do was leave. That didn't happen the way he had planned though as the very Magic that helped to rebuild the World overflowed within the Guardian and vanquished him. It had one final trick up its sleeve and it played it on the world. With the Guardian gone, the islands merged once more, and the balance was thrown off.

Orcs raided Human settlements, Dragons burned Elven forests, and Goblins and the Undead banded together to overpower the Dwarves. Something had to be done, and one High Elf did just that. He sent ambassadors to the known Rulers, offering his hand in an Alliance to end the imbalance. For once, everything went according to plan. Elves, Humans, and Dwarves all banded together and pushed towards the center of the land, converging as one united force against the Chaos. Knowing that the complete destruction of the beasts would be futile, they came together and established Nine Kingdoms, the Nine Heavens. Balancing out the Lands, treaties were formed, and the forces that were once enemies became allies.

Three millennia later, we come to the present day, as countless adventurers set out on their own journeys. You are those Adventurers. This is... Your Story. Welcome to the Tales of Malencia: Your Future, Your Choices.
