The world of Opax is vast, with deserts and mountains, plains and valleys. It stretches far and wide, reaching to the waves of the ocean on each side. Only two islands accompany Opax. The world is full of magic…or at least it was, until the Empress put an end to all magic, making it illegal to do such acts…something that is punishable by death. Dragons have become something of the past as well, only a few cities still celebrate the beautiful creatures. Sarus, to the northwest was the first to fall, about ten years ago. It was the beginning of the Empress’ wrath against the kingdom. The beginning of the end, as some will tell you. The Empress was pleased with her results, many cities gave up their dragons and their dragon eggs without even being asked. Though, it took the burning of Clarian to really get the point across. Clarian was a simple city, the noblest of all, full of white mages and farmers. Clarian supplied most of the kingdom with remedies as well as food for their families.

The fall of Clarian caused an uproar in some cities, the revolt against the acts of the tyrant that had rulled the world of Opax. Keysport, a city of dwarves was the next to be attacked by the army. The red and black knights, bloody shadows some called them. Others called the knights hell spawn. The name doesn’t matter though. Once those whom stood against the empress were taken care of in the city of Keysport, the army took all of the dragons and then moved to the east, headed to Kappa. This was another small farm town, one that supplied goods directly to the Empress and the others of high standing in the Kingdom of Opaxia. There was not much revolt from this city, the men and women bowed their heads down and allowed the knights to rip apart their homes. Only a handful were killed, having been found guilty of practicing magic, or some other sort of illegal deed.

Now, the army has traveled through the Ophir Desert and across Wells Valley, headed toward Neriss. The Empress caught word that these people are planning a revolt against her, something big. She also was informed that the townspeople not only practice magic, but they have several dragons, full grown dragons even…perfect for use in her Dragon Rider program. She sent some of her best men to Neriss, a Dragon Rider or two as well…

What side shall you fight for? Who will you be?

Will Neriss fall to the Empress’ Army?

Or will Neriss rise and push back against the tyrant?

~~~~~~
Above is a link to the map of the world of Opax. Information that follows will give you a bit more in-depth analysis of the cities and the world that your character will be in.
Opaxia: The main kingdom. This city is the best of the best. Only the richest may live within the walls of the kingdom. The homes are extravagant…but the castle is by far the most amazing thing within miles. Here is an image of the view from outside of the city.
Nokes: This is predominately a farm town for supplies for Opaxia. The farmers supply the Empress with her every need and want.
Keysport: This is the very well preserved Dwarven city that has been built into the soils beneath Diamondsdale Forest. Even when the Empress had her knights infiltrate this vast city not every nook and cranny was explored. Though, it did help that the dwarves had nothing to hide, as well as nothing to give. They have secluded their people from the human population for so long that the influence of Dragons and magic were not something that the dwarves were particularly interested in.
Sarus: This is the first city to have fallen to the Empress. Most of what remains here are snow covered ashes. The buildings that still stand have doors kicked in and mud slung along the wooden flooring. Only a few remain living here. This is a wasteland, to put it simply.
Diamondsdale Forest: Temples rest in this forest, as well as other unspoken things. Many go in, but few return. It is rumored that werewolves roam the thickly wooded areas of this forest. As well as a few other creatures….
Napili Plains: The vast open plains of Napili are lush and green year round. Many must travel through here to reach the kingdom of Opaxia. It is not a dangerous travel, though, it is quite the distance to travel alone and without proper supplies.
Kappa: This city is filled with mainly humans, though there are elves, dwarves, and the like mixed within. The people of Kappa are joyous and tend to have nothing to do with any activities that the Empress has deemed Illegal.
Ophir Desert: Many enter the desert, few return. The dunes are laced with creatures that will suck one into the sands just to suffocate the being and devour it later…
Aurora: A city filled with what was once black mages, since the new laws have been set, the mages have become scarce, they hide their magic within the walls of their homes, in hopes that the Royal Army will not find out.
Clarian: The city that caused the rebellion. The city was once a thriving city of white mages, mages that would do anything to help the Empress. Until late one summer’s night when the Royal Army attacked, no questions asked, every life was taken. Though, a few did manage to get away…the lucky…or unlucky few, depending on how one looks at it. The memories of the slaughter still stay with those individuals today.
Wells Valley: The foothills of the Dragon Mountains roll along this part of the world. Random small homes have been built along the way. This is generally a very safe area for travelers.
Rotanda: This is an elven city, the people here are against the Empress, they will fight to their death, no matter what cost, before they follow her orders.
Elven Forest: This forest is filled with a magical energy. They say the trees are alive, which they very well may be. Sprites reside here, as well as other mythical creatures.
Dulac: This used to be a city of humans that were linked with most of the Dragons within the Dragon Mountains. Though, since the new order has been in place, these people tend to keep to their own agenda, there is a lot going on here, though, the Empress has yet to figure out what they are hiding.
Forgotten Shore: Along the shores and within some of the snowy traverse ships lie. Long ago this was a harbor, now it is hardly anything more than a boneyard. Some live here within the wreckage, though it is hard to tell how many, or even why…
Dragon Mountains: Vast mountains stretch up into the skies like fingers, grasping for the sun and the clouds. Snow caps almost every mountain, when visible through the thick fogs. The dragons live here, in large numbers even. Though, it is hard to say where they live, the only people that know the exact location live in either, Neriss, Dulac, or Rotanda…
Neriss: The center of the beginning of this chapter in the story. Neriss is a well sized city full of many different mixes of people. Though, they all have one thing in common…they all want to see the head of the Empress lobbed off and rolling down the marble stairs of the castle in Opaxia…Dragons live here with their links (those who have been with the dragons since they were just a young hatchling). Mages also reside here, as well as fighters, archers, ect.
So there you have it, the world of Opaxia. The story shall start in Neriss, the Royal Army has come to put an end to their retaliation. Will they rise or will they fall?
FULL NAME: Barthold-Atal Hal
NICKNAME: Boshaki (meaning "Runt" or "Unwanted")
AGE : 30 (Average lifespan for Orcs is about 55 years, so he is about middle-age)
BIRTHDAY: 30 March
SPECIES: Half-Orc
GENDER: Male
SEXUAL PREFERANCE: Heterosexual
APPEARANCE
HAIR COLOR: Black streaked with grey
HAIR STYLE AND LENGTH: Shaved on both sides, leaving a length of braided hair in the middle that reaches midway down his back.
EYES COLOR: Brown
EYESIGHT: Clear vision during the day, as well as in low light conditions, yet as with all orcs colours are less vibrant
HEIGHT: 6' 8"
WEIGHT: 206 lb
OUTFIT/CLOTHING STYLE: He is usually dressed in a scholar's robe, or general travelling gear. He possesses a set of animal-hide armour made by the Orc tribes.
Overview of Appearance: The term fish out of water captures this Half-orc perfectly. Although small by Orc, and even other Half-orc standards, he is still quite a bulky figure. This contrasts with the scholarly style of dress he exhibits, though the robe struggles to encapsulate his wide set shoulders. His face, while not old, is worn with time giving him a venerable look. His prominent, heavy lower jaw is cleanly shaven.
RELATIONSHIPS
PARENTS: Mother - Fali Hal (Human)
Father - Unknown (Orc)
SIBLINGS: None
CHILDREN: None
OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS: Possible some on his father's side, but they are unknown. Orcs aren't particularly well disposed to maintaining genealogical records.
PAST OR CURRENT LOVER(s): Myrthel Jaffen, a human woman he met during his studies.
PERSONALITY
LIKES: Intellectual discourse, poetry, quiet, reading, debate, study
DISLIKES: Conflict, discrimination, riding horses, exploitation of the weak
STRENGTHS: He is learned, and is fairly wise from his travels. He knows of herb-lore and of alchemical tinctures, as well as dabbling in philosophy. He is ill disposed to fighting, preferring to resolve issues with words, but will fight if it is necessary.
WEAKNESSES: While still moderately strong in comparison to humans, he is considered weak in comparison to full-blooded orcs. While he tries to maintain his peaceful mien, he does lose his temper rather quickly if you know how to elicit his anger. He is ill disposed to fighting, preferring to resolve issues with words, so may try reasoning rather than rumbling.
HOBBIES: He spends most of his free time reading, or debating with scholars. As he travels abroad he seldom has time for hobbies more in-depth than this. He also chronicles his journey, most notably his encounters with other half-orcs.
USUAL MOOD: Barthold is usually cheerful and optimistic. He is an eager conversational partner, but is content to remain quiet and enjoy the scenery.
FEARS: He fears the failure of his mission, and with the rising attacks and social instability of Opax, this seems ever more likely.
COMFORTS: Barthold takes comfort in himself. He has never known excess riches, so has no attachment to physical thing. Instead he values knowledge and experience above all and is content as long as he still has all of his mental faculties.
Overview of Personality: He is a calm intellectual, quite in opposition to his muscled figure, sloped forehead and prominent jaw. He is understanding, and respectful, but expects to be treated in kind. Opposed to violence, he seeks peace, but grimly acknowledges that such must be fought for and defended.
HISTORY
BIOGRAPHY: Barthold-Atal was born to Fali Hal, a human mother whose village was raided by a tribe of marauding Orcs. Claimed as a "spoil of war," Fali escaped to the city of Kappa with the growing child in her belly. Once in Kappa life was not easy. Finding work as a nursemaid Fali managed a meagre living amidst the other citizens, but was always held as an outcast due to her son.
Bathold experience the same aversion by the children and their parents. Often mocked as a "low-brow" brute, He soon learned to find solace in books. He resolved to defy the chiding remarks and studied in between finding odd jobs to put food on the table. Once he had come of age he enlisted into the Academy. Here he would be valued for his intellectual contribution rather than his appearance . . . or so he though.
The students and lecturers were no different than the children. The often affected the accent of the Orcs' pidgin language or spoke slowly as though speaking to a infant, despite Barthold being quite erudite. Only one person treated him without regard to his heritage: Myrthel Jaffen. Yet associating with the outcast renders oneself an outcast, and she, too, was subject to the jeering of the others. Seeing this Barthold made a decision to depart after his studies. He told Myrthel who pleaded to accompany him. But where he was going was not somewhere she could accompany him. He planned to find kin within the nomadic Orcs tribes.
So on the day of his graduation he departed, following sightings of a Orc tribe. His time with the "civilised" races had made him bitter and resentful. His last hope for equality lay in the other side of his bloodline. Yet amongst the Orcs he learned that at heart they were no different. Mocked now for his "Fancy" talk, skinny arms, and lack of kills. He came across several Half-orcs in the tribes. Here they were treated as less than the slaves. It was during his stay here that he understood the plight that all half-breeds faced. They had no society of their own; ne culture, or history, or traditions. They were forced to adopt the customs of one of their parents, yet their heritage will not allow them to truly be a part of one race or another.
This set Barthold-Atal Hal on his quest. He resolved to begin the civilisation of the half breed. They would not be seen as half of two races, but as a race unto themselves. Again he set out, hoping to find a person of power sympathetic to his plight. For a new nation to be built he would need land, fields to tend to, livestock, building materials, and above all citizens. So he began journeying spreading word of his dream to bring an end to the half breeds' outcast status. Yet Fate doesn't seem to take kindly to this plan, as at the onset of his mission, the Empress began her campaign against magic users. Seeing the seeds of great political change afoot, Barthold has taken to joining the rebellion against the Empress, in the hopes that the world after will be better acclimated to his ideas.
