Jared has always felt an urge to control others. He had to be the one to win fights with his parents, he always has to be the one to pick what’s being watched on television, or what restaurant his family is to visit. These harmless tendencies have morphed under the weight of his illness. As schitzophrenia is a disease with a common adult onset, he developed his delusions and compulsions well after taking over for his deceased father in the family’s video rental business. This new condition heightened his need for control and dominance into a compulsion he cannot deny. He cannot function without the outlet of having the ultimate control over someone. He takes an incredible sense of release in holding another human’s life in his hands, watching them take their last breath. He views it as a spiritual experience, almost as if he carries their souls with him. He never forgets a victim.
With each victim, he spends an extended period with them. Each time, he finds a place where he can keep them relatively safe and cared for, keeping them as comfortable as possible while he holds them prisoner. He forces them to become comfortable with them. He has developed a charismic ability to say or do exactly what is needed to get the response he wants. He always accomplishes what he wants. He always gets people to feel about him the way he wants them to feel. When he doesn’t, he loses control, lashes out.
