【OOC】

“The past retreats but does the future truly approach? One day the observer shall awake to that paradox.”

December 2012,
Far beyond the borders of the human imagination lies true destruction.

“Begin launch sequence.” An artificial female voice crooned in the near-empty control station. The entire room was sealed off and not even the entire collation force’s firepower outside even make a tenth of the way in by the end of the week by sheer force alone. “Containment system active, vacuum integrity maintaining at four-thousand point zero four Pascal. ECM jammer check, sonar jammer check, homing modules check, particle release check. All personnel have cleared the launch silos. Hatches opening.”

There was a switch in the power supply and the lights turned to a dim red. Not one of the staff flinched, everything was for this day. “Exhaust check. Launch ready. Under the first protocol, countdown will be skipped. Launching.” The voice said, cracking up slightly a little at the end. The facility shook as several missiles began their launch.

******

With a scream of metal, the limb ripped the tank treads off its other arm, with its Gatling Railgun still rotating at breakneck speed, spitting out tongues of fire while sending electronic feedback down onto the churned ground. The cannon arm pulled up, a section retracting to reveal a larger version of a grenade launcher, punching through a wall and blasting the infantry on the other side to oblivion. Her pilot’s display flickered slightly as the mech absorbed the full force of the SMAW projectile, the magnetic shielding clearly doing its job and operating as normal. The mech rotated on its hips to see the source of the noise, remnants of the attack only indicated by a trail of steam where the SMAW had struck.

Tachibana Touka squinted slightly as she tilted herself back to see where the missiles have gone; the trail of white smoke behind them already blocking out most of the view. Her eyes were dulled after staying up through the night in her mech with only some shots into her system to keep herself awake. Whatever the missiles’ payload was, she sure as hell wished it was lethal. She had sustained much damage on their defense, and despite the order of ceasefire, she could not help but feel that this was only the beginning of a long and bitter conflict. No doubt they would be **** at them breaking the ceasefire order.

******

Not less than thirty minutes later, the first warhead landed in Paris.

Eyewitness accounts and videos show that several particles, similar to metal trailed out of the missile prior to it reaching its destination. Hours later, after all missiles had landed, material, said to be similar to metal and crystal began to form over the cities similar to barnacles covering a ship. The plague spread speedily, their horrified victims turning into crude festive decorations on the roads. As the day passed, it seemed that the virus itself was evolving rapidly, it spent more time inside the victim without showing any symptoms of its existence and then suddenly, metallic scales began to form on the skin, seemingly eating away at the sanity of the infectee as well. The government placed quarantine orders, but something had to be done about the rapidly increasing mass of crystal at the core of their cities. No matter how much they tried to destroy the crystal mass caused by the Apocalypse virus, it was a never ending task thus the cities were abandoned, in hope that one day the virus would just disappear the way they always do.

May 2013,
Alexander’s breath fogged the air, his guards particularly silent. He too could sense the tension, yet he did not feel very affected despite him being the one being sent to the British for further orders. His pick up should have arrived a minute ago but he guessed being late sometimes was alright though it could cause entire schedules to go awry. He pulled his coat closer to block out the freezing gale that ripped across the silent airport. He heard that they were bringing all the Espers in the military all over the world who were not in Armenian custody into a cohesive force dedicated to ending this threat. Though it was not explicitly stated, whoever came out as the victor of this war could easily unite the entire world. He gritted his teeth as the gale increased in force, sending their coats flapping like the torn flags on the runway. He hoped that the pilot did not mess up the landing or shirk from the fierce winds because time was not on their side. Just then, he believed that he heard the drone of the airplane in the distance. His eyes turned upward towards the grey sky where the distant vehicle approached.

Jodi Walker has just been picked up from a small Military airport in the Netherlands. She was asleep when her sergeant called her. She has to go to Britain. She doesn't know why or for how long. The only information she got was that it was going to be cold, not that she couldn't figure that out by herself. As she's sitting in the airplane she's looking out of the window and stares at the clouds that are consuming the plane. It's uncomfortable cold in the aircraft, so she closes the zipper of her coat and crosses her arms to keep her body warm. After a while she sighs and looks at her bag that lays on her lap. She's always so restless when she's sitting for a long time, she can't concentrate and she wants to know what she's going to do, what's happening and why she's the only one of the Royal Dutch Army to go to Brittain. The airplane starts decreasing height and speed. She looks up and frowns; Are they already there?

3... Roselia started the stupid countdown that always happened everytime her boss wanted to talk to her. It wasn't like she was doing anything at the moment but still..2....Standing against a wall with one leg arched was always a bad moment in her life...1... The door in front of her slammed open and a woman with red higheels , and a low cut short pink dress stood in front of her. Just great...

" Roselia, The head of the intelligence core wishes to speak to you." Typical, very typical for his wife to squint at her like she was the problem to all their martial issues. She shoved past his wife, waiting for her to shut the door behind her. Her boss had issues with two people in the room at the same time, so it was obvious his wife was forced to wait in the hallway.

The room was small, a bench lined the left side of the room for directing large missions, and papers were scattered all over the floor as if they meamt nothing. Which, to a techno brained man paper was just a means to an end. His desk had four flat screens , a wireless keyboard, and a wireless mouse. The desk was the cleanest thing in the entire room.

" My, My , If it isn't you." The voice came from behind the screens. No one, but his favorite agents got to see what he actually looked like, and considering he gave her a special operative mission, well she knèw where she stood on the totem pole. " So, Rose, " He stood up showing his stern blue eyes, and lingering tobaco ciggeratte that was rare in form these days. His left hand tossed a file at her. " You know that container I have you carrying around, which you are never to open, or look inside unless I give the orders. I want you to continue to carrry that with you during this new assignment. Do not allow anyone to examine or touch it. I intrust it to you, and should anything happen that puts you or it in danger. Such as explosions , and , or snipers. However, I trust you can hamdle such a problem with your training , and skill."

" This file is names of the other's that will be assigned ? " There wasn't a question about handling the situations thrown at her, it was more what could interfear on enemy lines. Such as the armenians. God, she was always getting over her head in situations. " Also, when is this plane supposed to get here?"

" Too many questions, too many, read the damn file and find out. Count to 25 once you reach the top of the building. I know how you like to count. Now , get the hell out of this room. I don't want to see your face for a long while since you will be under a new army, the only order you follow is that one order with the container, all else is to be followed by your new boss." The man sat back into his chair , as puffs of gray smoke filtered through the air.

She turned and left the room , ooening the door wide so that his wife could go back in there and whine about every little thing. The metal hallway seemed endless but it was just the effect of the shape of the hallway. Her feet went right since the staircase which lead to the roof was at the end of the corridor. Her feet clanged up the stairs till she reached the roof, and just like her boss said she began to coumt as she made her way to the railing. The city was completely gone, wiped out in mere seconds , and it was a sight to see the aftermath. Chemical warefare?

25....Fact was when she wandered enemy terriôtory it was always a typical lone wolf mission...24 ....So now , her mission was flipped to a working with allies mission...23... This meant she had to deal with other people to her drastic dismay...22.....Her hand ran through her hair as the sound of a distent plane came her way...21 ...Her counting should have only been down to ten considering the plane was almost there....20.... She made sure to check for everything , and that she wasn't forgetting anything.

19... The plane was landing , and it brought with it a nice wind...18.... Her body turned around to watch the plane land...17....16....15.....The door to the plane came down , and she made her way aboard the plane. 15
econds later and she was taking off to britan.

Alexander kept glancing at the map on his lap along with a compass he managed to procure prior to the trip. No matter how he saw it, they were heading East, which was the complete opposite direction of where they wanted to go. He got to his feet, the two of his guards accompanying him glancing up at his sudden movement. He gestured for them to stay put and wet to the cockpit to speak with the pilot. Come to think of it, he had yet to hear from the pilot. He turned the handle of door and it swung open to reveal an empty cockpit. Alarms rang in his head. He glanced to the either side to see the plane being escorted by several fighter jets of the British Royal Air Force. Yet... he did not recall autopilots taking over any flight completely with no pilot. He dropped into the seat and flipped the switch, turning auto pilot off and righting the aircraft in the right direction.

It was at that point when he noticed flickering outside the aircraft. The fighter jets dropped their holographic disguise and sped away, allowing him a brief glance of the Armenian Advanced Airforce symbol before cutting into the clouds. His guards, alarmed by the sudden change in course had ran down to the cockpit to see what had happened and Alexander responded in Russian, "A test, from Armenia. They know the game we're playing."

******

Touka strode down the rows of mechs placed on the open concrete ground. Once she had found the one she was assigned to, she climbed up the side, ignoring the ladder placed conveniently beside the vehicle. She donned her helmet, the pneumatics hissing temporarily to check the air pressure before booting up the Combat Operating System. Their briefing was usually conducted while they were already in their mechs. "Open briefing," She commanded as the hatch sealed her in.

A black screen and the words "sound only" in red with a red line at the bottom appeared on the inside of her helmet. "In previous hours," The line jumped, "we have determined a potential resistance group, a team of individuals grouped together to disrupt the city's functions. You are to extract data and disperse their gathering. You are to capture any Esper on sight, the rest may be eliminated via kinetic means, thermal weaponry or explosives. You will be dropped in a urban location of Area ten, previously known as London. Pilots are reminded to prevent data loss of their own equipment."

Touka tapped her helmet once, resetting the screen and causing the weapons interface to leap up. She tested her weapons and checked her ammunition count. The mech mimicked her actions as she rolled her shoulders, "Number Ten, ready for pick up."

As Jodi gets dropped off on a roof in the city, London, the first thing she does is look around with disbelief. London looked even worse than Amsterdam or Rotterdam. Her mouth dropped as she sees the giant ghost town. She sees the crystals that were the cause of this apocalyptic virus that killed so many innocent people in the distance. Then she looks around. Apparently she's the first to arrive here in Britain. But why did they drop her off in the Capitol of England, London. Isn't the virus still dangerous? She continues staring at the empty and eerie city. It doesn't even look like the city from all the pictures she has seen with the strange looking buses and the London Eye. She sits down on the edge of the roof and takes one of the scopes of her riffle out to take a better look around as she waits for others to arrive. She still has no idea why she's there and what is expected of her. Did she get dropped of at the wrong place? With that thought she looks around at the leaving aircraft and seems worried. Being alone in a ghost town isn't her favorite thing to do, but she has learned to just wait and believe that everything will be alright. Otherwise she'll have to go out on street and find her way to the right place herself.

She sighs and stares at the sky as she lays her rifle on her lap. She attaches the scope. Her rifle lights up like a candle. It illuminates a bright green light that slowly fades again. She looks at a small screen on the side of her weapon to check how much ammo she has left in her riffle. She then looks through the scope once more to receive information about the things she aims on. It's something new that they added, but she actually has no idea how it works. She always worked with old fashion sniper rifles and assault rifles as more advanced weapons, like the one she holds now, are too expensive for the Dutch army to afford. They barely have enough food for all the soldiers that are left. She isn't very used to all the advanced gadgets the soldiers of the other remained armies have nowadays. She usually sticks to the old fashioned way.

Roselia placed hr head against the firm wall of the plane. She had purposely chosen to sit furthest from the pilots, and windows. It was just her way of taking space without actually having any expectations of chatting. The momemts seemed to pass as her eyes tried to close. Sleep only meant nightmares, and reality lately was a far worse nightmare than any dream could conjure up.Time ticked away and soon enough her eyes closed.

Inside the dream

There was a moments hesitation, the container on her back was now placed before her. Centered inside a Armenian city. The orders....forget the orders! What were the orders again? Armenian soldiers surroumded her telling her to walk slowly away from the container , and to raise her hands. But they had shot someone without hesitation, and her life was far more important than to be shot after giving up. Maybe this was where her ability would come in handy?

She raised her hands trying not to seem like a threat but never once did she take her eyes off the container. It was do or die! What was inside that container? Curiousiy ate at her , trying to bite it's way into her mind. It was like decideing to pull the trigger on your best friend. Do you do it? Do you care too much? This hesitation was crawlig away faster, as the men loaded the barrel of their guns.

Then just like she used her ability to move the top of the container , and some sort of smoke billowed out. The men began to choke, and the die one after another. She too began to feel the effects .......

Back to reality

She awoke with a start , having seemingky dosed off for a few minutes, Lately, her dreams involved that damned container. The problem was what was inside the container. Her head shook as the plane began to lower. Britan wasn't that far off so it made sense she would get there a little faster. There was a potential of being the first onethere, but that was put simpily a dream. Her plane was purposely set to arrive after the first plane. Since, she had things to discuss with her boss before hand.

Finally, the plane stopped a sure sign that her hands could grab her equipment and aoard off the plane. She did just that, walking down the steps of the plane onto the platform where she was supposed to be. There was one other person on the platform.Unlike most people she walked over to one of the corners , opened up the file given to her and began to read.

"All pilots, begin data uplink." A voice came, as though from inside her head. Touka immediately released one of the joysticks before her and depressed a button with a knuckle. "Uplink completed."

"Hey. Tenth Flower." Came a voice over the comms. Ten Flower was a literal translation of her name. "I hear we're cracking down on some terrorists today. Isn't it funny? How they are the ones now running as the terrorists." The voice sighed, "History really is written by the victors."

"We'll have to evacuate the citizens of that area, eliminate any hostilities and capture Espers. This is quite a lot of work. Luckily, we have the Tesseract system overseeing this operation." She responded in a disconnected manner, leaning over to the side to glace down at the terrain speeding past below and her carrier drone above.

"You still outfitted with that exploding GPS?"

"Yes, why?"

"Some of the Mechs heading down to Area ten with us are equipped with hacking modules."

"What? Why?"

"To fry their communications and stop their aircraft maybe?"

******

"Where were you? You're an hour late and we suspect an Armenian satellite is going to be overhead. You will need to disembark quickly."

"We were caught in some flight difficulties. And please remember to maintain radio protocol." Alexander said before switching the communications off. Right now, they were above London and they did not even have to wait to use the runway because there was no one left. He extended the landing gear in preparation to land. Just ahead, he could see some figures on the runway waiting for him. The craft landed smoothly, though slightly shakily in his haste. Once the craft had come to a stop, he exited the plane, not even waiting for the ladder. "Let us move quickly." He said in Russian, beckoning for his comrades to hurry up.

******

Half an hour later,
Alexander had just arrived in the room where all the other Espers all over the world had gathered. It was a miserable few of them. Some of them were obviously way too young to be in the military force, much less a covert operations team.

The door swung open for a man who hastily announced, "There is a large Armenian force headed this way. There is no doubt that it is because of us. We are in the process of evacuating what is left of the civilians."

"How much longer do we have?" Alexander asked before turning to dismiss the two following him, "Your duty is done." He turned back to the man, "What will you have us do?"

"We know a squad of mechs, no more than ten have been sent down here. We intend to force their pilots to abandon them so that we can gain more intel on their technology."

"And where will we come in?" Alexander asked, slightly guarded towards this plan of theirs.

"You will have to act as our eyes and perhaps cause distractions so that we can land a good shot on them."

Meanwhile, in a small pub in Manchester, Katerina was sitting on a barstool, laying back against the bar counter, and was shooting darts at a dartboard, with a large glass of Coke on ice, in her other hand. She tossed the darts lazily at the board, yet she never missed, and when she ran out of darts to throw she let out a sigh. Not bothered to get up off her seat and go collect them, she took out a pair of her throwing knives and as she was about to throw those at the dart board as well, a hand snatched her elbow, in mid-air.

“Don’t…” David, the bartender, warned. It wasn’t a frightening warning. In fact, it sounded like he was chiding the warning, and, while his voice was rough and deep, it had a kind of friendliness to it that Kate rarely found in people, days like these. It was one of the reasons this pub was a regular hang-out for her. Friends, or pleasant acquaintances in this case, were hard to find nowadays.

“You know I won’t miss, Dave,” Kate said annoyed, yanking her arm back, but putting her knives away regardless.

“I know that. But you’ll ruin my dartboard,” he laughed, wiping the counter with a washcloth.

“I’m bored. There’s nothing to do with this virus going around wiping out everyone. It’s: motel, then here, then back at the motel, then back here again…”
Kate sighed once again and turned around to look at Dave. She gulped down her Coke and rested her elbow on the counter, placing her chin in her hand. She looked utterly and completely bored out of her mind. Dave couldn’t help but chuckle at the small girl.

“It’s not funny. You know we could all die at any moment, don’t you?”

“It hasn’t spread to Manchester yet, darlin’.”

“Yet.”

The conversation slowly drifted off to something less unpleasant, as Dave refilled Kate’s glass. The girl soon found herself laughing along with him and, later on, some more regulars that walked in. One even offered to buy her a drink but she refused. Katerina didn’t drink.
Two hours later, Kate heard a sound she hadn’t heard in a very long time. The familiar beeping tone went off and her eyes widened, and not because many eyes turned to her.

The S.O.A.R pager…

Katerina slowly took out the pager, with shaky hands, and looked at the screen. She gulped slightly as she viewed the coordinates. So much for being safe.

“Kate? Are you okay? What’s wrong?”

She looked up at Dave, and paused before she could find her voice to speak. It came out a bit broken and quiet.

“I’m going to London...”

~~

It didn’t take long for Kate to get to her destination. She took the train to London, from Manchester, chewing on her lip and running her fingers through her thick black hair constantly. The train was almost completely empty. But that made sense… who would want to go to London in the situation it’s in?

She could’ve taken the private jet S.O.A.R. offered to send, but she knew there was no point and she liked simple transportation better. The only way she saw it fit for her to make a grand entrance was on her own, not what brought her. And anyway, she didn’t feel like one. Admittedly, she felt scared.

There were many much more experienced members of S.O.A.R. that could’ve been assigned to the mission, and they were also much older than her, and weren’t considered ‘kids’ by some. But Katerina knew that none of them would be qualified enough to deal with this. She was one of the few members with esper abilities, but that didn’t make her anymore ‘valuable’ than anyone else in the organization. Just more prone to get dangerous missions, like this one.

Kate looked out the window of the silent train, and sighed as it sped past the eerie, black night. So much for avoiding the virus; now she was one of the people to deal with it.

She has been taken to a room with other Espers from all over the world. She hears some strange languages that she hasn’t heard before. But then again, Dutch doesn't sound that normal either. Jodi herself thinks it sounds German, but then again they were neighboring countries. At first the thought she’d be the youngest of all the members but then sees that there are even soldiers that are around 16 and 17 years old. It surprises her that this is the force that they apparently want to use for some sort of mission. But then again, she hasn't seen them fight yet. They are probably all good and experienced fighters that she can rely on. She looks around and sighs. The whole time that she has been standing there in the room, she has been holding her rifle close to her and hasn't said a word. She was just listening and observing like usual.

Then Jodi notices a man opening the door and announces that there is an Armanian Force approaching. She knew about Armania. They taught her about that back in the Netherlands. Armania had launched biochemical missiles to cities all over the world. A virus spread and changed the landscaped with crystals. She listens the conversation between two men. She knows that one of the two is called Alexander, but she’s not sure which one. She hears that the Espers have to distract the enemy while another quad does something else. She’s not sure what. She remains silent and waits for further order.

A few hours later, Kate had gotten off the train and walked—she’d had to walk as the city was deserted and there were no taxis— to the building the information in the pager instructed her to go to. Wandering about a bit, messing with the small device, she eventually found the room she was supposed to enter to meet with other Espers, from around the world, to supposedly tackle the virus problem. She was very late, but a part of her sighed with relief when she realized mostly everyone was too busy to notice.

Upon entering, she looked around the relatively large room and bit her lip, assessing the people in it. Like her, they were very young, and not very frightening in appearance; at least some of them. Their case was probably similar to hers: they were young in age, but powerful in potential, and more qualified for risky missions. Many were talking amongst themselves and others just stood a few feet away, listening. These were probably the ones that had come on their own, like her.

Figuring she should probably try to do the same, Kate approached a girl with light brown hair, kept in a braid, and a sniper rifle, who seemed to be listening to a conversation between two men. She seemed rather engaged and thoughtful about what she was hearing and Kate was a bit hesitant to disturb her. Almost timid, which was nothing like her. Then again, being surrounded by all these people, heavily advanced and trained, intimidated her in a way. Almost all of them held some kind of gun, or advanced and sophisticated equipment. She was only trained by nature, you could say, with her ability, not S.O.A.R. , and preferred simplicity in her battles. This made her reckless at times, but it always worked out in the end.

As she stepped closer to the girl, who seemed to be about her age, she bit her lip, turning to look at the two men conversing, as well.

“Do you know what’s going on? Are there any news?” she asked casually, folding her arms over her chest, trying to listen in on their conversation as well.

"My name is Wilson Ackerman. We're about to come under attack by the Armenian forces." The man repeated. "We have thirty minutes to get ready." He avoided saying that their firepower would probably be just raindrops to the Mechs coming down. "We'll need to split into teams." He sucked in a breath and said in a louder voice, "I know most of you are in some sort of Esper research program and have little military training for this kind of thing. But just like with the virus; this is real. So we have to deal with it. Teams will have to be formed, but first we'll begin with a roll call to see who had arrived."

He started calling out a list of people clearly of separate nationality.

******

Alexander responded when his name was called. Once that was done, the man named Ackerman began pointing out their location on the map. He could not help but notice that he avoided saying their location but instead, using words like "here" and "there". He leaned forward to take a closer look at the worn paper map. They were situated at the northern side of the Tower Bridge. His gaze moved south. There were only two suitable locations for landing a vehicle the size of a Mech. It was either as the Potter's Field Park or further south, on the railroads beside Druid Street. He guessed they would land on the latter because if they did land at the Park, they would be completely exposed to the armor.

Ackerman proceeded, "Espers with intelligence gathering abilities or skills will split into teams of four, accompanied with a squad of soldiers. They will move here," St. Katherine's Way ",and here." The ruins of the Tower of London. "Do not. I repeat, do not be spotted on ground level by the Armenian forces as they will attempt to capture you. The other Espers will play as a bait to lure the Mechs into the fire sack." The finger tapped the length of the highway directly north of the bridge. "Stay off this part; we have explosives planted along the beams to trap the Mechs under the rubble."

"Those capable of detection group up at this side," He pointed to the left side of the room, "and split into teams of four. For the others, split into teams of two." Alexander moved as he was instructed, his pulse leaped, it was really happening. He was about to see an actual Mech, not something on the other side of a grainy monitor.

******

"Ten Flower to all of squad one. We are fifteen minutes away from touchdown. To the new guy: stay in formation." Touka said as she shifted several holographic screens to the side where she could easily reach them. She leaned forward, turning a virtual knob to lower the opacity of the top-down map. "Tesseract. Can you hear me?"

"Loud and clear, unit ten." Came the reply. The funny think was, it sounded completely normal, as though she was talking to an actual operator but in fact they were speaking to a computer floating somewhere in orbit. "What is it?"

"I was wondering if you could adjust the formation slightly, to allow for more mistakes and less tactical advantage."

"Very well." The sound of a buzzer notified the entire force that squad one had a change in formation. In reaction, some of the Mech carriers slowed down slightly before picking up the pace again. "I've arranged it to the DOBARC codes of: D-30|O-15|B-15|A-10|R-25|C-05. The third variant with larger mobility ratings. Your squad's survival rate has jumped over eighty percent but the success rate has dropped to forty percent. Advised to switch to variant one for increased success rate. Is this satisfactory?"

"Yes." She said after seconds of contemplation. She waved her hand, casting the DOBARC interface out of the holographic monitor as her Mech rocked with slight turbulence.

After flipping through her file for a little while , Roselia noticed that there was a man ( not of any importance at least in her eyes) waving for her, and the other esper, or espers considering , towards the stairwell. When she walked by the man muttered " first door to your right , should be the meeting room." However , she paused at the sound if a helicopter landing. The same man that had spoken before whistled muttering " Alexander." It did not take long for this obviously important man to pass by her stating loudly " let's move fast."

She followed the man who lead her to the meeting room. There was no time for a proper introduction it seemed. They had no sooner entered the large room, and got situated when the door swung open. Her curiousity was at peak , what could be going on ? Time was essential to everyone but so wasn't knowing people's names. Her head shook for a minute before hearing what the man that swung the rather large door open had to say.

"There is a large Armenian force headed this way. There is no doubt that it is because of us. We are in the process of evacuating what is left of the civilians." Damn...damn and damn. The fact that they caught on so fast meant that somewhere along the line they had caught a spiders eyeview of where the espers may be. Dangerous game they like to play. She would say infiltrating one of their bases was easy but she was positive that if her steps weren't careful the Armenian's would have caught on to her back then.

"How much longer do we have?" The man named Alexander who was in charge asked the man who had just spoke, then muttered a dismissle to the other two or so it seemed to her view. She was trained to notice hand movements, face gestures, patterns, anything that could be useful for an intelligence officer. "What will you have us do?" This was important and considering from what she read in the file Alexander was not a force to reckon with, however, neither is an army. So what would be their course of action?

"We know a squad of mechs, no more than ten have been sent down here. We intend to force their pilots to abandon them so that we can gain more intel on their technology." The man spoke not realizeing she had a little knowledge on their mechs, not a lot, but enough to where replicating the mech's wouldn't be too difficult.

" If you so please , sir , from what I gather on an old feild mission I found that.the mech's design is not hard to copy even without a blue print. What should be focsed is the chip system , this will reveal far more than any applicable design could about their technology." She stopped speaking then realizing it was out of turn

"And where will we come in?" Who she supposed would be giving the orders spoke. In other words, Alexander.

"You will have to act as our eyes and perhaps cause distractions so that we can land a good shot on them." So, they were to act as decoys. What a freaking waste. Their first mission was an overt mission that was typically given as a test for new soldiers. She may be 17 the youngest of the group but by no means was she blind. Then the dreaded roll call occured as a man stood center of the room, it was not Alexander to her surprise, However, when his name came up he made sure to announce he was here.

Right after his name, came her name, and like a true militian person she stood up. " Roselia at your service." Then sat back down awaiting for the roll call for everyone else. Once, the name calling was all over it became time for tactical talk like tactics were always considered in battle. Maybe she was a bit of a realist but sometimes actions inquired tactics to fail. Howver, her eyes and ears were completely focused on the discussion itself.

-----------------

Time passed and the tactical talk soon came to an end. She was to be dispatched as one of the few apart of the tower of ruins of london. This would be fun.

Hiro ran the systems check on his mech. This team would just drag him down and most likely get them all killed. They were sending him in with people who probably still hesitated when killing someone. And then there was his “commander”. However, he followed no one’s orders. He did his job and killed anyone who got in his way. If someone had a problem with how he did his job, well, most likely he just killed them too. Most people kept their mouths shut if they had a problem though. Hiro was intimidating like that.

So, here he was on a mission destined for failure. They couldn’t just send him in on his own on an assassination mission. He would have easily snuck in and killed all of the targets. But no his “superiors” wanted them captured alive. Why, who the hell knew? Taking people alive really wasn’t Hiro’s style but He would make one exception. One. No more after this. He looked into his HUD and made sure all systems were check.

“I don’t know what command told you about me, sweetheart, but you don’t command me. I do my job and I do it my way. If it wasn’t for that fact that they were expecting us I wouldn’t even be using this damn mech. All you will do is drag me down. Stay the hell behind me and don’t die. That’s the only orders you need.” Hiro was agitated at being told what to do. He lived his entire life by himself he didn’t need anyone telling him what to do now.

Hiro finished running the diagnostics on his mech and finished last minute preparations before leaning black closing his eyes and focusing. He had to do this to protect Sato. He had joined the war effort to keep his brother out of it. His brother had a happy life now and he had to fight to protect Armenia and his brother. That was all that mattered. Getting the job done so that he knows there is one less threat towards his family.

As Jodi was listening to the conversation she could see someone in the corner of her eyes standing next to her. She can see it’s a girl even though she’s not looking in her direction. Jodi wasn’t sure if she should greet her. Jodi wasn’t even sure if she had to greet someone in a special kind of way. Should she salute, wave or just say hi? So she remains silent until the girl asks her if she knows what’s going on. Jodi would love to answer that question but to be honest she doesn’t have a clue. She knows it has something to do with the Espers and Armania. But the girl probably would have figured that out herself. So Jodi just looks at her and shrugs. The girl next to her looks about her age. She has long black hair with red tips. She seems like a nice person.

“I’m Jodi Walker. “ She smiles a bit. As she wants to continue talking to her she could hear the loud voice of the man that she was listening to earlier. She got surprised by the volume of his voice.

As she listens to the man she discovers that his name is Wilson Ackerman. He speaks to the group of Espers. This would be her first actual fight. The only things she was allowed to do back in the Netherlands was patrolling and training. She nervously starts playing with her hair as she listens to him. He then calls out the names of people and their nationality. There were more different nationalities than she had ever seen in one room. As she hears her name she responds and can’t hold back an exited smile.

She then looks at the map of London where Wilson shows their location. She looks at the map and frown. She hasn't been to London before but she recognises places like the London Eye, the Tower of London, Houses of Parliament and the Big Ben but that’s about it. She now stares a bit sheepishly at the map as she sees all the street names and bridges. She never was good at map reading.
She listens at Ackerman’s instructions and warnings. Then he starts talking about Mechs. Jodi had no idea what Mechs looked like or what they were capable off. She then carefully lifts her hand and blushes deeply. She felt a stupid to ask but she didn’t feel comfortable to go out on the field and trying to avoid something that she had never seen or knows what it’s capable off. “Sir..” She says carefully. “Could you please explain what a Mech actually is? I’ve heard about it once or twice but…” She doesn’t finish her sentence as she wasn’t sure what to add to it.

Kate sighed when the brown-haired girl shrugged, in a gesture to show she had no idea either. She sighed.

'Is everyone here as clueless as I am?' she thought.

"I'm Jodi Walker," the girl said, smiling lightly. Kate seemed a bit taken aback by this girl's ... niceness. The Espers she knew from S.O.A.R. were a cold, unwelcoming lot, with ever-present frowns plastered on their faces. They took everything way too seriously. Unknowingly, she'd assumed all the other trained Espers were the same, but apparently she was wrong. Kate couldn't help but smile back up at the girl.

"I'm Katerina Smite.. But you can call me Kate," she said politely. Just as the girl opened her mouth to say something, Kate saw her jump a bit in surprise, as did she, at the sudden booming of a man's voice, whose name was apparently Wilson Ackerman, calling out other random names. She was a bit puzzled at first, until he called her and Jodi's names as well. A roll call. Makes sense.

"Espers with intelligence gathering abilities or skills will split into teams of four, accompanied with a squad of soldiers. They will move here and here. Do not, I repeat, do not be spotted on ground level by the Armenian forces as they will attempt to capture you. The other Espers will play as a bait to lure the Mechs into the fire sack. Stay off this part; we have explosives planted along the beams to trap the Mechs under the rubble," Ackerman continued, after the roll call, pointing at a few locations on a map.

Katerina was very confused, still not understanding exactly what the plan was. What she had caught onto, however was 'Espers' and 'bait', and, at that, she gulped and a small part of her shuddered. They'd use them as bait? So much for being trained professionals ready to fight.

“Sir..” Jodi mumbled, causing Kate to snap her attention back to her. “Could you please explain what a Mech actually is? I’ve heard about it once or twice but…” Jodi trailed off seeming a bit embarrassed at her lack of awareness of what this Ackerman guy was talking about. Kate bit her lip, feeling a bit annoyed that she should feel uncomfortable not knowing what a Mech is. Most of the time they weren't even necessary. Not to Kate at least, since she would just burn down anything that got in her way; simple as that. Still; if it wasn't useful to her, she didn't consider it important enough to worry over.

Kate felt like putting the poor girl out of her misery, and explain to her what Mechs do, but then she remembered that the question wasn't directed to her; it was directed to a 'superior'. She kept quiet, deciding it was best not to talk out of turn; this was only her first Esper meeting, and she didn't want to screw things up for herself.

"A Mech." Ackerman repeated, surprised that she did not even know who their foes were. He glanced around and picked up an envelope and picked out a photograph after checking its label.

Image

"Mechs are very versatile weapons with higher mobility and firepower. They are roughly two to three stories tall and are designed for urban combat. Most Mechs are highly resistant to kinetic damage which make our weapons rather useless against it. Up to this point, it seems that Mechs can ignore weak structures but avoid submerging themselves in water." Ackerman pointed out. "The one seen in this photo was in Afghanistan. It uses treads for better stability and defense, sacrificing its own mobility though."

******

"Listen up. I don't really care if your big ego can even fit into the pilot capsule but if you endanger the mission, I will not hesitate to destroy your Mech."

For some reason, the Tesseract decided to blare out part of the Armenian National Anthem, causing some difficulty in communication.

Victory,
over this land we will fight for our liberty!
Armed with the greatest of men and machinery
This is the fight for our truth and our destiny

As one,
into the skies, under the sea,
over the land, we will remain free.

To the fight, we will take-

"Tesseract, skip Anthem."

"As you wish."

"Insubordination can result in pilot probation, meaning you're have to wear a special choker. Like a mutt." Touka said. Just then there was a buzzer which sounded and seconds later she felt herself being released by the Carrier. She fired off her boosters, slowing her descent before she reached the ground. "Charlie, report in and form up!" She ran through her list of armaments; An open right fist, a railgun repeater on her left and a small amount of heat seeking missiles mounted on her shoulders as she wanted to reduce her weight. She knew somewhere in their team was someone who outfitted with Sniping Artillery. She threw up the overview map, and began placing markers around, "Samuel, get to point C and link visual. Everyone else, form up now!"

******

"They've landed." Alexander said after setting the pair of binoculars down. "They're at the railway, still no movement." They had blasted all the other bridges in the vicinity, meaning that the Tower Bridge was the only bridge they could cross unless they had something to cross the river. "****. They're bigger than I thought." He commented as he consulted the map. "We have someone with Telescopic Vision right? You should relay what you see to the boss-man- I mean, officer." he passed her the radio. "If you see anything strange, report it immediately."

******

"Katerina and Roselia, follow the set up group to the bottom of the highway. Your jobs will be to contain the Mechs once the highway beams have collapsed. Overheat their functions or pin them under more rubble. Do note that your abilities will not work on them directly as they have ESP shielding." Wilson instructed those two from the group of Espers. Over all, these two were the highest ranked in their abilities.

Jodi looks at the picture and raises her eyebrows. Was that really what they were about to face? As Ackerman starts explaining about the machines she pays close attention to Ackerman and nods several times. She then makes a list in her head of what mechs are and what they look like. High mobility and firepower, two to three stories tall, urban combat, weapons are useless… Jodi then looks at her rifle and sighs. Why does she even has this thing if it won’t be of any use? Her hand brushes through her brown hair and she looks back up. She seems a bit uncomfortable and she still feels rather foolish for not knowing what the Mech was, apparently it was obvious to the other Espers.

______________

Jodi listens to Alexander “They’ve landed. They’re at the railway, still no movement.” Jodi sees them too. They’re like nothing she has ever seen before. It looked like a giant tank with more advanced weaponry and shields. She doesn’t see any movement coming from the machines. Her vision blurs for a second as she zooms in on the Mechs. She searches for places where there might be a weakness, but she can’t find any. For now she only knows that the machines can’t resist water. “You should relay what you see to the boss-man I mean officer.” She hears Alexander say. Her vision turns normal as she looks at him as he offers her the radio. Jodi then takes it from him and looks at it. She blinks several times as she gets used to her normal vision again. She knows how to use it. Good. She didn’t want to seem stupid again. “I will.” She replies as she looks back at the Mechs. Jodi takes her sniper rifle and looks through the scope. She slowly takes a more relaxed position on the ground. The vision through the scope wasn’t as clear and sharp as with her own eyes. But it took her a surprisingly great amount of energy to use her ‘skill’.

She eventually asks, “Alexander… Do you think it’s a wise decision to send people in as bait?” She doesn’t look at him as her task was to keep an eye on the Mechs. She was curious about his answer though.

Roselia breathed heavily as she followed the orders given. The group had split after the questioning. Her mission was to obtain a mech. Her esper power may not work directly but it works wonders inadvertantly and that was apart of her main training. She was in no shape an amatuaer but her skills were always in need of some sharpening. One can not be a expert at everything.

Time seemed to freeze as her impatience was drying thin with anticipation at the event that was about to transpire. The mech's were closing in, and she looked at kat who was a bit of ways away. This whole sending people off to work before they are able to truly function as a group may be a downfall. Containing mechs, containing mechs, she had to keep running the thought inside her head just so that her eyes could spot a object that would be able to help stabablize the containment proccess.

Her abilities weren't that strong but she could move some objects to at least 5 kilometers of distance. This may seem large but when talking small objects its insugnificant, and with large ojects the range is even shorter. Timing would be everything , and considering the mech's had landed, the time would be essential. The highway beams hadn't collapsed yet , but that did not mean there was no room for a good distraction. Play it by instinct would probably be best in this situation.

She spotted a lose beam that wouldn't affect the highway and may cut the mech's power if she dropped it right into a mech's back. Specifically , her target was one , the rest could be dealt with , and containing a good mech would be better than taking a badly used mech.

She used her fingers to count down the seconds, when she was at five, her feet scurried to get better cover while concentrating on a minor beam. The beam came lose not hitting the back of the mech, but instead the shoulder of the mech. " Damn." This was not a good sutuation so she waited for more direct orders.

Road stood outside, braving Russia's ice cold weather. When her escort had arrived at her fathers house they informed her it was snowing. As she packed she rolled her eyes, it was always snowing whenever she was in Russia. Now she thought she knew what they had meant. She had lived in Russia for a decent amount of time, but it was hardly ever this cold or snowing this much. Out of boredom Road had been drawing random things in the snow with her foot. When that got old she began to go over all the things she had memorized for use with her "specialty" as her parents would say. By the time her ride got there she had run out of things to do, and had sat down to think. She was warned that it wasnt a good idea, but she couldnt feel most of her body anyway. Once she got inside she sat in a corner and waited, only getting up when the teams were created. She went to the "non detection" side as her powers wouldnt be that helpful in detection unless they had some binoculars or such for her to try to copy.

"Not really." Alexander said, answering the girl without putting down his binoculars, "But if it means a higher chance of success, we might as well take it. No? We're essentially labeled as terrorists to them and asymmetrical warfare is nearly impossible with their kind of reconnaissance technology."

******

"Scan mode." Crooned the female voice as Touka's vision was covered in a blue tint. The Mech lurched forward as she tilted the controls forward. "Moving to bank. Remain in formation." She said as the thrusters ignited and sent the Mech speeding forward, scraping trenches on the road with its feet.

Her gloved fingers depressed a button on the console before her when she came to a halt at the bridge, in fact, it was one of the only physical buttons in the Mech. "Attention," She announced, "This is the Armenian Oppression force. An unauthorized gathering of Espers has been detected. We are to retrieve these Espers and eliminate any threat which stands between us and them. Non-combatants or those who wish to preserve their lives are requested to evacuate immediately or we will not be able to guarantee your safety."

As expected, no response came. Touka flexed her arms before seizing control of the Mech again. "Prepare for assault. Samuel, spotted anything?"

"There is a small group of personnel at the structure to the left of the bridge on their bank. Probably an Esper among them who is watching us. Further down the road connected to the bridge is where a larger force of armored vehicles are gathered. It is more than enough reason for us to stay away."

"Okay, marking locations. Point B is the building where said personnel are. We will clear the area and allow the second squad to retrieve them. We still need to disperse the terrorists at point D even if they have large amounts of firepower. Samuel will be in charge of relaying information to us and Squad two and forcing movement on the vehicles. Permission clearance to use thermal-kinetic weaponry has been registered as a necessity, and therefore use has been granted."

"Loading TKE Shells." Seconds later there was an echoing shot which caused trees near the Sniper Mech's location to be stripped of their leaves, some of them seared by the five meter long tongue of fire which leaped from the barrel. From what Touka could see, it was a precise hit. Striking the cannon of the tank and slicing down to the chassis which the Thermal-Kinetic shell expanded, causing the turret to explode like a metal flower. "Disperse at once!" Touka rang across the river. "Advance!" Her movements were relayed to the second squad which immediately moved to back them up.

Her Mech leaped off the ground as it reached the suspended platform and seemed to float as her thrusters propelled her forward and upward. Just around the halfway mark of crossing the bridge, a tank shell connected, which was deflected promptly by the electrically-shielded armor plates.

******

The air rippled as the shell hit. The air rippled at the force, causing those closest to it to experience waves of nausea. The tank's crew were instantly vaporized under the scorching heat, indicated by the white-hot insides of the wreck.

William squeezed the button on the radio, "Fire at will!" And within that moment, several cannons rang out all over the city, a deadly hail of shells which rained down on the hulking forms crossing the bridge which did little to stop them.

******

Alexander had barely anytime to get ready when the Mechs began to surge down the bridge. He scrambled over to the side where he knew he would find several shoulder-mounted rocket launchers and picked one out. While ESP was good and all, a weapon in hand provided a sense of security like no other.
