The Setting
Barely six centuries ago, a virus known as W3J threatened the existence of mankind itself, forcing the departure of five colony ships in order to preserve the human species as a whole. One of these ships was known as the Archangel.

The Archangel had it course set outside the solar system, towards systems unknown, and as they were passing the outer boundary of the solar system, they were threatened by an alien race which they named the Raksha. The Raksha were a highly aggressive life form seemed to be purely relying on their biology to consume and assimilate more to their own. However, The Raksha were eventually left behind and have not been detected close to the Archangel.

Our characters are cadets or pilots for Fleetrunners, a large mechanized weapon which were originally intended for only ship repairs. However, after encounters with the Raksha, the Fleetrunners were developed and produced for combat of the alien species. Even after the last war, the new variants of the Fleetrunners are being developed despite their main use being for scouting, repairs and mining operations.

The Fleetrunners
The Fleetrunners are lightweight and designed without much consideration for gravity. As such, they are poor choices for atmospheric combat. They are powered by Heigus particles which are a naturally occurring energy source. They consist of the main body, head and limb modules. The main body is where the pilots are drive the mech, main optics are mounted to the head while smaller backup optics are placed on the main body. A flight suit is required to pilot a Fleetrunner.

Flightsuits record and transmit the pilots' vital signs to the Fleetrunners which in turn send them back to the Archangel. Flightsuits are computerized and will reject a user if the user's physique is too dissimilar to the user the suit was intended for and fail to activate. The flightsuits can also protect the users from exposure to space for a small period of time as well.

The Archangel
The Archangel is an elongated octagonal spaceship which has four thrusters on the front and back each. The ship does not have FTL (Faster-Than-Light) or Warp Drives and relies only on inertial drifting to get to its destination due to the lack of resistance in space. The ship has six launch tubes as well as forward and back cannons for long ranged combat but mostly relies on Fleetrunners to defend it from threats. The ship is powered by Heigus particles which is also used for its main cannons.

Due to the massive casualty count in the last war with the Raksha, a warrior culture of sorts has been encouraged by the council which governs the ship, encouraging as many young colonists to take up the role of a pilot. Potential pilots are handpicked for the cadet program as early as eight years old before being transferred from regular school curriculum to the cadet program. However, those not picked for the program may still apply for a place in the cadet school. After completing the cadet program which would take about six years, after which, cadets will be able to graduate as full fledged pilots.

The interior of the ship has gravity pulling downwards towards the rear of the ship, as such the entire living area of the Archangel is around the inside surface as well as a large tower going through the middle of the ship. The artificial gravity generators and engines are located at the rear of the ship respectively. At the base of the residential area, there is a large body of water which acts as an ocean layer to provide a place for marine life.

Life on the Archangel
The buildings show signs of wear but are kept in functioning condition, pilot suits are patched up until they are damaged beyond repair which would require replacements.

Anti-social behavior such as criminal activity is punishable. If an individual shows signs of being incapable of contributing, such as having psychotic tendencies, they will be sent to the bio-reactor to be used as a source of alternative energy for the ship. Incarceration rarely occurs for even criminals, since it will only put a drain on resources without any return. Instead, troublemakers will be sent on increasingly suicidal missions should they be judged to be still useful despite their crimes.

Character Materials
Here you will find the information critical to creating a character in this setting. Think of it as a summary of the information above.

Our characters are mainly pilots or soon to be pilots, known as cadets. Cadets are normally aged between 13 - 20 years of age. You are recommended to set your character's age from 18 - 20, when it is almost time to graduate from the academy to become full pilots, or above 20 years old. Due to the devastating number of fatalities which occurred at one point during the most recent war with the Raksha, genetic modifications have been performed to ensure that future generations have the ability to photosynthesize so that the requirement for food is reduced in the ship. In addition, cloning and cybernetic prosthetic limbs are available for otherwise able-bodied personnel.
