NAME: Peter Benjamin Parker
SUPER NAME: Spider-Man
SUPER HERO/SUPER VILLAIN/VIGILANTEE: Super Hero in the present day. In the past there were times where he was controlled against his will, but these are all behind him now.
AGE: 27
GENDER: Male
POWERS/EQUIPMENT: Spider-Man has the ability to cling to the vast majority of surfaces, and has been given the ability to lift around 10 tons of weight, which is far beyond the capabilities of even the strongest regular humans. He's considerably more acrobatic and agile than a regular person as well. Most notably he has the ability to sling webs, which combined with these acrobatics has given him a quick way to travel from place to place.
While the ability to cling to different surfaces and move about like a spider are the result of receiving DNA mutations from a radioactive spider bite, Spider-Man is dependent on a system of artificial web-shooters that he wears on his writs to produce webs. The devices fire a sort of adhesive material that's ejected through an adjustable nozzle. The trigger rests high under his outfit and can be easily activated by a mere practiced reflex.
Along with kinesthetic abilities, he has control over a famous "Spidy Sense" that allows him to learn of threats before they become a major issue to him. Very few opponents are resilient to this power, though there are a few. Notably the Green Goblin once developed a gas that made the spider-sense worthless. Hobgoblin manufactured a supply of this gas as well.
Spider-Man can't use this power to detect Venom either, since that symbiotic organism contains his own DNA. To make things worse for him, Carnage, Toxin and some of the other symbiote-created beings can also use this same power against him.
AFFILIATION: The question of Spider-Man's affiliation is rather complicated. In the past he served with the Outlaws and the Secret Defenders. He would of course continue to work with either of these groups if it served him well. Currently, though, he most often works with the Avengers, of whom he has many friends with and tends to have similar goals to.
Notably he's also worked with the Fantastic Four as part of the Future Foundation, taking care of major world problems before they became an issue. When he serves with the Future Foundation, Spider-Man is dressed in a sort of white and silver cyber-style outfit that fits the forward-looking mood of that unusual organization. For now, though, it looks like he would gladly work with whoever he needs to in order to take down the kind of foes that he tracks while leading his infamous double-life.
BACKSTORY: Peter Parker grew up in Forest Hills in Queens, thought many do comment that his voice doesn't sound explicitly like someone from New York. As an orphan, he lived with his Aunt May and Uncle Ben. Eventually a spider that gave him an incredible dose of radioactivity that he saw at a science exhibit bit him. He thus acquired the strength and agility that came with being an arachnid, as well as developing the ability to adhere to the walls and climb around just as spiders do.
Soon after he developed a device that allowed him to sling webs, and figured that this would have been a great opportunity to start up a get-rich-quick scam. Dressing up in a costume as Spider-Man he became a novelty on television and started to tour around, getting gigs on sleazy TV channels and raking in the dough. Parker figured that he was going to be a very rich individual very shortly.
Quickly he started to imagine selling book and motion picture rights. Nevertheless, his little dream fantasy world was all going to come apart very quickly.
Ignoring a fleeing thief as he figured that he was nothing more than a celebrity and not a member of the police force, Spider-Man had made a grave error. That thief robbed and killed his Uncle Ben. Eventually he was able to take down the murderer, having learned an incredibly difficult lesson in the process while soon struggling to help his widowed aunt pay the rent.
This proved to be an extremely difficult time in his life, and he struggled to graduate from high school and make it through Empire State University. To make things even worse was the way that his first true girlfriend, Gwen Stacy, died.
Green Goblin threw Gwen Stacy from the George Washington Bridge, and Spider-Man used his webs to stop her fall, but she then died in the resulting whiplash effect from having stopped so suddenly. Having learned another incredibly difficult lesson, he's been cautious and respectful of his own powers in every relationship both romantic and platonic since then.
Some of his adventures since then had been quite strange to say the very least. While fighting the Secret Wars, he had been essentially drafted into the armed services of an alien planet in order to participate in a war between the greatest heroes of the Earth and the greatest villains of the same. During the time he had become infected with an alien parasite, only having been able to rid himself of the aforementioned creature through an exceedingly long struggle.
Today things are rather different for him, especially having somewhat settled down into his position at the paper while dealing with his current relationship with Mary Jane Watson. While at one point they were considered rivals of one another, he came to terms with the death of his previous girlfriend and his engagement to his current one.
That doesn't mean that everything is peaceful, however, considering that there are always constant threats that he has to fight as Spider-Man. Nevertheless, he has come to terms with many of the things that have bothered him in the past, and that means that he has been able to become a more skilled and polished warrior in the present day.
Perhaps one of his biggest problems in the modern era is the marked difference between his somewhat dorky personality as Peter Parker and making it mesh with the far more in-control and dedicated personality that he puts on as Spider-Man. In his own words, after all, Peter Parker tends to be a huge dweeb.
