AU Dragon Ball Z OOC

So we've been working with this thread as a starter:

Unfortunately, it certainly looks like the original individual who had prompted it doesn't seem to be interested in the storyline any more. That leaves it kind of open for as to what we had wanted to do.

Personally, I'd like to see a lot more with the alien side of things, instead of just staying on the Dragon World that Goku, Yamcha and company have a tendency to stick around on.

Are we going to only use original characters for this one then?

Since were going the more alien route, friezas clan could be a good focus since they are planet traders. We could go about a story where a few of Friezas clan become rebels because of their attachment to a certain planet. Or we could completely ditch the clan and go into a new race.

That could be a good idea. Was there any specific alien race you wanted to focus on? I'm almost inclined to play a more aggressive form of a Namekian, haha, if you don't mind me doing something along those lines at all.

... Yeah, this'll probably need some explanation. I never watched DBZ, but as far as I'm aware, this is a kinda obscure detail...

The Tuffles were a very humanoid race, maybe a bit shorter than humans, who had exceptional technology in contrast to their relatively weak physical strength. They lived alongside the Saiyans for some time. Possibly on the same planet, but possibly also only in the same solar system. At the time, the Saiyans were mostly scattered tribes, but one of their strongest warriors - the first Vegeta - united them under one banner and declared war on the Tuffles. Though the Saiyans were giants compared to the Tuffles and surpassed them physically, the Tuffles outnumbered and outgunned them, and so for a long time the war was just one big stalemate. However, the arrival of a full moon (an incredibly rare event on the Tuffle planet, only occurring once every several thousand years) allowed the Saiyans to transform into their Great Ape forms. With their power magnified, the Saiyans were able to defeat the Tuffles in a single night. They crowned Vegeta as the king of this new land, and renamed the Tuffle planet after him. The Vegeta from the DBZ series, the "Prince of all Saiyans," is actually descended from this King Vegeta. I believe he's his son.

And, yes. The Tuffles are DBZ canon. They played a heavier role in present events in GT, while they only appeared in the Saiyan race's origin story in DBZ...

Anyway, a REALLY interesting AU would be one where Vegeta never declared war on the Tuffles, and instead their two races forged an alliance. Who KNOWS what such a combination would be capable of - the galaxy's strongest warriors, working together with the galaxy's keenest engineers...

Oh wow, I wouldn't have actually thought to use the Tuffles, but I am actually really familiar with them. A few years ago I spent several months watching all of the original Dragon Ball, DBZ and Dragon Ball GT. I'm currently reading through the manga. Haha, I must seem like an obsessed nerd at this point.

Anyway, though, I think you might be on to something. Would it work if we were in a time line where the Tuffles and Saiyans had intermarried enough that they're some kind of really strong joint race? Do you think that might be a good idea?

It's up to you, though, and to Ben. I don't know if that would actually be a good fitting concept or not really.

Well i havent looked at GT in a while but the only tuffle i remember was baby who had the weird ability to take over someones body. Ill look into it more later but I definitely like the idea of an alliance between them. Id definitely want some form of conflict. Maybe not a war but possibly a very powerful threat that would force the saiyans to work with the tuffles. Id still consider Friezas race as an antagonist but i think there needs to be something more. Frieza often talks about how hes a mutation of his race and is extremely powerful as a result. Maybe the frost demons learned how to genetically alter themselves by mixing with other powerful races and expanding their empire.

The result of babys fusion with vegeta was a stronger much more intelligent symbiote. So a race of saiyan-tuffles would definitely need a terrifying enemy enemy that could manage to fight intelligent great ape saiyans.

Oh, that's very true. Do you mind if I were to throw out a completely different idea to try? What if we were our own interstellar version of the Z Fighters from other planets? We cast away the Earth-centric and enemy of the week storyline and have our own alien troubleshooters from different planets who take care of problems for the World Trade Organization or something of the like?

Anyone think that something like this might work, or is it too much like the kind of material that we're attempting to get away from?

I think it would fit well into a universe that follows this alternate timeline. We could have Saiyans, Namekians and others all on the same team.

This is honestly just nitpicking, but Baby was genetically different from other Tuffles. The Dragon Ball wiki calls him a "Tuffle / Machine Mutant." Most Tuffles look a lot more like humans and tailless Saiyans. Except shorter. And I'm pretty sure Baby was the only one with the body possession ability. If every Tuffle could do that, the Saiyan-Tuffle War would've continued in stalemate even after the Saiyans transformed into Great Apes.

The idea of an "interstellar Z-Fighters" is certainly interesting. It would open up plenty more possibilities when it comes to stories and locations...

Naturally, that's true, but we might not even have to take a lot of that into context considering that we might end up having a loose continuity.

Hey, actually I have an idea if you're interested at all. Would you like to play a member of the Tuffles species in our little group of Interstellar Z-Fighters? Do you think that might work out?

Maybe. The Tuffle would be at a serious disadvantage physically - as I said, the only advantages they had when fighting the Saiyans were their superior numbers and technology - but I'm sure a race as clever as them would have plenty of work-arounds that would let them hold their own against the galaxy's strongest...

Well, I suppose the same could be true for members of any species. At one point in the original Dragon Ball, Yamcha was the strongest individual in the whole world, and he was simply a very skilled regular human who relied on his Wolf Fang Fist technique.

Also, I hope the hypothetical Tuffle character doesn't become the Yamcha of the Space!Z-Fighters.

What's wrong with Yamcha? He was one of my favorites, at least in the original series.

It's a bit H.E.A.R.T., but there's no denying that it suits the Tuffles.

alright, so are we in agreement here? a Galactic Z-fighters (Probably not called the Z-fighters anymore). monster, I'd say that the H.E.A.R.T. Characters would be a little too stealthy for the theatrical world destroying battles of DBZ

. Trust me, you'll definitely want to either have some really heavy weaponry or you'll want to have some really unique abilities (like guldo's time control or garlic jr's powerful magic attacks).

It was purely a jest - I know what to expect from Dragon Ball, and how different it is from H.E.A.R.T. Also, I have a character that I technically made for Xenoverse, a female Majin, that I'm considering rolling with if I don't use the Tuffle.

I'm definitely down with Space!Z-Fighters.
