Interest Check

GMs:

Lie Ren

Omnia

From The Interest Check | +
It's the year 670 PGI (Post Great Innudation). Only 670 years ago, the Earth was ravaged by a series of great tsunamis and earthquakes. Along with the decay of the magnetic field, which caused sea levels to rise immensely, the natural disasters sunk much of the Earth's land. Now, only parts of Asia and North America are left. However, the west coast of North America sunk due to a giant earthquake that destroyed land from California to Mexico and mid-Canada. If there were any people left, the floods following the earthquake killed them all. Scientists quickly tweaked untested technology to create a safe haven from the floods. At the center of midwestern and eastern North America, the illustrious city of Lumina stands.

Lumina is home to the surviving major corporations, and the CEOs of these corporations have taken over the government. This oligarchy, now known as The Foundation, expects all to worship them, as they were the ones who saved them from the floods, and the citizens happily complied, if only to stay safe. However, what they didn't know was that the corporations only let a certain number of people into the protected city. Their doctors tracked how many died and they let more in accordingly. This left many decent people out with criminals and the mentally insane, who never would be let in, as well as wild animals who became lost due to the decayed magnetic fields, leading them to become more hostile. They rarely survived long.

The corporations made the force-field visible by building a dome around its perimeter, but the dome was made out of mirrors and mirrors only, so no one could see in or out. The Foundation spied on all the citizens, planting cameras around every corner and having their robotic army patrol the streets. They banished anyone that was accused doing anything that might be considered heresy against it, even if wrongly accused. The heretics were quietly sent outside the Floodgate, the entrance to Lumina, never to return, or to be privately executed, depending on “how serious” their “crime” was. The Foundation became more and more corrupt over the years, and there were rumors of a plot to purge the Borderlands and take over Asia, giving them more territory and people to rule over. It was also said after invading Asia, they would wipe the memory of those in their empire so that they wouldn’t remember what atrocities they had committed. These rumors, though true, were quickly dispelled, and those who were involved in the plot were not permitted to leak information about it. If suspected, they would be sent to the Borderlands and purged with the rest.

Outside the domed city, uprisings were born but died before they even reached the Floodgate, due to the uncooperating criminals and the uncontrollable mentally insane. If they ever started traveling to the Floodgate, animals most likely killed them within a week.

Recently, banished scientists accused of leaking information to the public brought secret technology The Foundation was building to replace the robotic soldiers and use less power to the Borderlands in their luggage, which remained unchecked due to The Foundation’s overconfidence and lax security. The Foundation planned to put bionic chips into randomly selected citizens after kidnapping them and taking them to a lab, where the chip would be put into their brain without consent, as they thought people wouldn’t want the chip put into them when they found out the operation was potentially fatal, but some scientists disagreed.
The bionic chips continued to be modified in the HQ of an organization that desired to rise up against The Foundation and take over Lumina, but they were still missing something -- subjects. They decided teenagers or young adults would be most fit for the operation, as they were usually more physically fit.

Things to Note
  • Your character is either a recently banished citizen (does not have to be a scientist) or a resident of the Borderlands (a criminal, a normal person trying to survive, etc.).
  • We (Lie Ren and I) will only take two or three applicants.
  • We’d prefer if the bionic ability had something to do with something the brain controls.

    Here’s a basic example.
    Enhanced Physical Abilities
    Super Strength
    Super Speed

    or

    Enhanced Intelligence
    Psychokinesis
    Eidetic Memory
  • If you need inspiration for abilities, here's a great link on the Superpowers Wiki that lists some things that we'd accept. However, a lot of these things are kind of OP, so don't be surprised if we tone it down or ask you to change it. http://powerlisting.wikia.com/wiki/Cate ... hancements

Name: Dan Zuine

Age: 21

Appearance: Dan has blue eyes with brown hair, he is about 5'9 and not very toned in the terms of muscles. He wears a plain blue and cyan shirt with jeans. He is not too strong, not a weakling, he is somewhere in-between.

Former Occupation: Assistant Scientist

History:
He lived a normal life as an Assistant Scientist, he almost achieved an assistant of his own too, but he said too much.

He was working on a new chip that could possibly enhance human capabilities for months; it was top secret, no-one else was supposed to know. Ignoring this important rule, he told his close friend about it, hoping for his opinion. He never said anything back though, maybe he did, Dan would never know because he woke up outside of the floodgates the next morning.

Personality: Very quiet, he tends to stay in the background and observe the details. He will continue with a conversation, but it is unlikely that he will start one, although it does happen. He usually does not speak about his problems, he keeps them inside. If you were to make him smile, you will be his friend. He is very open-minded and accepting, and hopes others can return the feeling. He is neither optimist nor pessimist, he is somewhere in between.

Biotech Abilities: Enhanced Mental Manipulation [Psychokinesis (Telekinesis) and Molydbkinesis (Small-Scale Magnetic Manipulation. Note: These can be set and held in place until disrupted)]

Fine with me! Also, I'll go ahead and post my form, but it's not included in the 2-3 we'll accept.

Form | +
Name: Theadora Veloxi Serfine. She goes by Thea to everyone besides the elders.

Age (17+): 19

Appearance:
Image

Blue/Green/Hazel eyes. The have a tendency to change among these three in different lighting. eyes, brown hair, 5'2. She typically wears her gathering clothes, consisting of a fitted tee, a pair of tight, durable pants, a light brown jacket, a backpack with two knives made from scrap metal, and a pair of boots.

Current Occupation (Borderlands Resident Only): Gatherer. She spend the majority of the time in the outskirts of the Borderlands, searching for supplies and possible food and water sources for the exiled.

History: After Thea's parents were publicly executed for successfully spreading negative views on the government, she was sent to the Borderlands at the age of 7. She was raised by the exiles, among the other children, but there was something different about her. Throughout her life, she was always taking risks and ignoring other's advice. Once, at the age of fourteen, she even left in search of the Floodgate, hoping to come up with some way to sneak back in and carry on her parents work, maybe even start a revolution of some sort. She was found three days after her departure, and taken back to the exiles. At the age of 16, it was suggested that she become a gatherer, in hopes that her adventurous, rebellious streak would be satisfied. It also didn't hurt that she was extremely agile and fast, and relatively smart. She still wasn't content, though. After hearing about the new attempt, she quickly volunteered, even knowing the health risks.

Personality: Thea is quick, adventurous, motivated, and intelligent. When she wants to do something, it will be done. After losing both her parents, she never really grew very close with anyone, and, as a result, became very independent and detached. Since she was nine, she's been known to resort to physical violence to help solve her problems, whether than actually talking. She has a problem expressing her thoughts, and the idea of discussing her motives and beliefs with someone can leave her wound-up and frustrated. Also, and just thought I'd note this hear, she has the neurological condition of synesthesia.

Biotech Abilities (one general ability and two sub-abilities):
Enhanced Senses:
Hyperfocused Sight
Hyperfocused Hearing

Odd... I could have sworn that I had posted a character sheet reservation in this thread. Well, in any case, the sign on the door said open, so I'll be posting one here, now. I hope you like it! =D

Name: Gerhard Suróv

Age: 21

Appearance:

Gerhard wears an old faded muscleshirt from before the Great Innundation, which has the Nirvana logo and smiley on the front. His hair is cropped short, and he has a small silver stud pierced into his left ear. His tongue is pierced as well. He also has a small tattoo of a rooster on his right hand, between the knuckles of his index and middle finger.

He has black, prickly hair, and jade green eyes. He often wears cargo pants and old combat boots. He usually has about his person a 14-inch hunting knife, as well as a set of brass knuckles, which he is certainly capable of using effectively.

He is 5'8" tall, very lithe and highly flexible and agile. Not exactly the build of a body builder, but he's no 90 lbs weakling, either.

Current Occupation:

Gerhard runs a small trading post north of the big city, along where the old former U.S./Canada border used to be. In addition to having plenty of wares for sale, he also teaches some of the local savage boys a bit in a local run down school from time to time. It's not much, but he remembers a bit of the education his father gave him. Further, his trading post has places for rest and beds for the occasional weary wanderer. He doesn't tolerate mischief however, and more than once has killed people trying to rob his store.

He also has a daughter, who lives with him in the trading post. The daughter's mother is no longer alive, however. Her grave marker is located on a small private plot near the rear of the premises.

History:

Gerhard's grandfather was one of the founding patriarches of the city. His son, Gerhard's father, was thus well educated and very high up in the ranks. Unfortunately, the grandfather and father fell out of sorts when his son went against the wishes of one of the councils. The actions of Gerhard's father greatly embarrased the council, such that not even friends in high places could prevent his exile.

Granted, they were able to prevent his execution, although perhaps that would have been only a small comfort. In either case, Gerhard was a young boy at the time of exile. His father educated him, and taught him how to survive in the wilderness. Gerhard learned many things from the time before the great inundation beneath his father's tutelage, from history to mathematics, to basic engineering skills. Of particular use was knowledge of the former geography of the world, which Gerhard used to salvage high quality equipment and wares for a small trading outpost they would live in.

The success of their trading attracted the notice, however, of a powerfal band of roving brigands. The various episodes of that conflict is a story for another day. Needless to say, when all the guns had stopped firing, Gerhard's father was dead, as was the leader of the brigande. As for Gerhard, well, he was married to the brigand band leader's sister. It was complicated. With the leader gone, Gerhard was able to secure some manner of allegience from the others, particularly with the help of his new wife.

His wife died of disease several years later, after the birth of their child, a natural death that would have been curable pre-inundation.

Personality:

Gerhard is calm, quiet usually, but loud and boisterous when he needs to be. He prefers to think through his options and plan tactics ahead of time, although they are almost always discarded completely once **** starts to goes down.

Biotech Abilities:

Gerhard has two main biotech abilities:

  1. He can directly adjust specific hormones within his system to accelerate the quantity of bone density in his system. Thus, his bones are almost impossible to break, although given enough force they will eventually crack. This also means that he really packs a punch. The force from his blows is powerful enough to dent tempered steel, although this does not affect his actual level of strength, nor the amount of weight that he can lift.
  2. He can adjust these same hormones so as to affect his metabolic rate, as well as cut off various signals from reaching his brain. At one extreme end, he can prevent himself from blacking out, even after weeks without sleep or undergoing severe trauma. At the other, he can put his body into a metabolic coma, allowing him to survive in harsh environments with little available food, or survive in freezing temperatures. He must be careful with this ability, however, as the effects on his body can be substantial. Blocking out pain and/or sleep signals doesn't prevent the psychological effects of sleep deprivation, nor death through loss of blood or internal organ failure. Likewise, once inside a metabolic coma, he is completely unable to wake up from it unaided. It's sort of a last resort mechanism for survival, such that he won't wake up unless actually excavated from the environment and physically warmed up and given food intravenously to shock his system back to life.

Hm. Druid, I think Omnia and I are going to have to say no to the second ability. Maybe try to find another thing that has to do with hormones? Because there's only one bio-chip, and it's placed in one place in the brain, so it'll affect one area.

Also, the characters haven't had their chips installed yet.

Otherwise, great form!

Okay, super jealous of how well thought out those abilities are, btw. Your form is also super detailed. Honestly, man, I want your skills. BUT, we still got one more minor thing. You said in his first ability "Having done this over the years, his bones are almost impossible to break", but the characters haven't gotten their chips yet. So if you could edit accordingly, that would be great.

ALSO, GUYS, WE HAVE A RESERVATION FOR ONE MORE FORM, THEN LIE'S. SO, WE'RE CLOSED, OUTSIDE OF CLICHE'S FORM.

ALSO #2, FEEL FREE TO START PLANNING RELATIONSHIPS. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. THANK YOU.

Ah. Ok. I will edit the form accordingly. The actual bone densification probably wouldn't take all that time to reach critical mass, and it's not like the bones go back to the way they were after making them harder, so I'll just take out the line about "having done this over the years."

I have an additional question, by the way. Omnia: You said that we needed to start planning Relationships? I'm not familiar with this from the old forums I used to go on. Usually, the characters there would just show up and do their thing from the get go.

Do you mean pre-existing relationships between our myriad characters? Or something else? !eyebrow

I always find it easier to plot relationships, whether they be positive, or negative. I don't know, I feel like it's easier to understand and you can make your posts in order to kind of build on that relationship in the most natural way. But if you guys don't want to, that's fine.

Also, approved, Druid!

Form. Finally. | +
Name: Lucas Raven Amato
Age: 20
Appearance:
Image

Lucas has brown-ish, red-ish hair that is swept to the side of his head. He has hard, coal-like eyes and thin, peach lips. He's a bit pale, but it's his natural skin tone. Lucas will normally wear his white lab coat with black pants and a blue dress shirt tucked into them. If off-duty, he will most likely be wearing some t-shirt and a jacket with jeans and tennis shoes the organization provides him. Lucas is 5'6" and a half and weighs approximately 150 lbs.

(fc is Baekhyun for possible future reference)

Current Occupation: Scientist working for rebel organization

Personality: As the only young scientist working in the lab, Lucas can adapt to be a very serious person, but in the outside the lab, he's just a normal young adult -- fun and goofy. He keeps his composure in the lab, and he won't take any joke around; he's very serious about his job, but otherwise, he's hilarious. Lucas can come off as a bit immature with his jokes, but he's quite mature overall, I assure you. In serious situations, he will revert back to lab mode and take control, which is when you better listen, otherwise he'll launch a full rant at you. He just wants to stay alive, y'know? If anything serious threatened his life, he'll do everything he can to keep it, even yelling at someone.

History:
Lucas' family had always lived in the Borderlands ever since the Great Innudation -- and they hated it. They weren't criminals, they weren't insane, and they weren't dumb, so it was a mystery why they weren't let in to Lumina. Because of this, the Amato family always opposed The Foundation. They weren't criminals, so they just tried to stay alive, which they did, using intelligence that was passed on through the generations. Twenty years ago, in 650 PGI, Lucas was born. Despite having poor education (the schools were low quality, and many adults afraid to teach because of criminals), his prodigious intelligence was remarkably visible throughout the school.

One day, when Lucas was the age of only fifteen, his family was visited by a scout from the rebel organization, who had spies all over the Borderlands. The scout was sent to request for them to move to the headquarters, where Lucas could begin training to become a scientist. After explaining the motives of the organization to Lucas' mother and father, they immediately agreed, because the group fought against The Foundation.

The move to the HQ was dangerous. On the road, there were criminals lurking behind every corner, and they had no one to guard them. However, they somehow made it to the southern Borderlands in one piece, possibly because of their choice of routes. Lucas was put into training right away, and by the age of only seventeen, he began working in the labs. Over his three years of experience, he went from working on simple, daily machines for the Borderlands to weapons and finally to working on the bionic chips that crafted using technology taken from the heart of Lumina. He volunteered to be the first subject, much to his parents' dismay and worry, but Lucas is extremely confident in his own work, and he's absolutely sure everything will turn out perfectly. Then, they could start the fight against The Foundation.

Biotech Abilities:
Enhanced Combat Ability
  • Adoptive Muscle Memory: Lucas can see a move performed and will be able to recreate that move almost exactly.
  • Auto-Reflexes: Lucas has extraordinary reaction time and can counter an attack involuntarily. He can sometimes know what attack to use in familiar situations, as it becomes a reflex after a few times.

Now, we can start planning? I think Omnia has an idea of how to start the roleplay.

Thank you, Lie. Time to get professional.

Now, to start off the RP, all of the subjects will have been gathered out of their respective areas of the Borderlands and brought to the Rebellion HQ, where Lucas will tell them about the chip and the whole "kill Lumina gah" plan. There will be objections, eye rolling, and maybe a bit of arguing, but eventually, everyone will agree like the good little pawns they are.

Any questions?

Just one. Shall we roleplay our characters being invited to HQ, a.i. when the come "knocking on the door", so to speak? Or when we start, is everyone allready in the big white room, with schematics and plans, etc, in the center of HQ?

I would say some have already been staying at the HQ for a few days, as, naturally, they might be closer to it than others. We can start it off with everyone kind of waiting for the whole explanation process to start. I can post first, so I'm pretty sure any other questions will be explained in my post. The HQ will be around modern day Eastern Utah, pretty close to the actual waterline, so just use that to decide how long your character have been at HQ. Lie, just let me know if I need to change anything in here. I made a lot of assumptions.

I'm thinking later today or tomorrow, though I'll ask Lie when he's on.

Ok. Cool. I'll follow you guys's lead, then. I had imagined that Gerhard's outpost would be further to the east, just west of present day lake Michigan, but I can move it up to southern Montana-ish. It'll work out. :D
