The year is 2065, a new up and coming company game company, Virtue Gaming Inc. (often simply referred to as VG), has achieved the greatest innovation in video game history, a means of virtual reality gaming that is controlled purely by the thoughts of the player, and not only that, but created perhaps the largest MMORPG ever concieved for its debut, which soon gained massive popularity. The way it worked was a special headset, a somewhat bulky, helmet like item, complete with built in headphones and goggles. With pure thought controlling the interface, it is a streamlined and amazing experience, allowing players to feel almost as if they are actually characters in the game, though the experience is one that requires a fair bit of getting used to to begin as players attempt to adjust to keeping their physical actions seperate from the thought control.
The game itself, known as Destiny Chronicles, soon grew as millions of players flocked to try it, while lacking any main story like many MMOs, at minimum of once a month, usually more, new events and quest lines are added or adjusted, making sure the game never truly gets old.
Everything was going amazingly, with millions of players already and more and more coming to the game as time went on, it seemed nothing could possibly happen to hurt the success of this game. That is, until over 100,000 players became trapped within the game, their minds unable to leave even when their headsets were removed. No one knows just how this has happened, the mere possibility wasn't even considered possible. With the player's bodies stuck in a comatose state, if the problem is not resolved, the lives of thousands will be in danger.
But for now, before this danger has occurred, our soon to be heroes are merely enjoying their time with their favorite game, with no worries of what may happen to them...
Character Creation: Destiny Chronicles offers a wide array of options in creating your player character, including almost total control over the PCs appearance and voice, and the choice of a wide variety of races and classes.
Race- Your PCs species, this option is purely aesthetic, and has no affect on stats whatsoever, however many quests and dialogues with NPCs can change depending on your race, there are also some types of rare armors and accessories only usable by certain races. Human- Regular old humans, overall they have the most varied potential appearance. Human settlements are many and varied from small villages to large cities. Elves- Largely similar to humans in appearance, though possessing the tell tale long pointed ears, and are shorter and more slender on average than humans. Traditionally live in forests in small tribes. Dwarves- Similar in appearance to humans, but generally shorter than even Elves and bulkier than most humans. Dwarven kind live in mountains and underground in villages and cities that are more advanced than humanity's. Beast Tribes: among the races are 4 tribes of humanoid beast races Fa Tribe: tribe descended from wolves, having wolf ears, clawed hands and feet, canine teeth and tails, and fur, roughly same size as humans Lago Tribe: descended from rabbits, having rabbit ears, legs, tails, buck teeth, and fur, tend to be around the same size as elves Scal Tribe: descended from lizards, having scaly skin, small sharp teeth, claws, long reptilian tails, slit pupils, no hair, and the option of spines or fins along their head, back, and tails, tend to be around the same size as humans but with more varied height Bo Tribe: descended from bulls, having bovine horns, legs/feet, fur, and tails, tend to be much taller and bulkier than humans
Classes: The way your character develops and fights, classes determine stat growth and the types of weapons and armor your character can equip, upon reaching level 35 characters can advance into a subclass to further specialize their abilities.
Warriors- specialize in physical attack skills, main stats are in attack and defense, they also have the highest HP, warriors wear medium or heavy armors, and wield various weapons, including claymores (two handed swords) or long swords (one handed), Lances (two handed), axes (one handed), as well as war hammers (two handed). Subclasses- Warlord- gains bonuses for two handed weapons and heavy armor, speacializes as a storm trooper or tank, charging through enemy attacks head on and fighting with utter brute force. Known to be easy to play as though lacking in variety to their abilities. Knight- Gains bonuses in one handed weapons and medium armor, focuses in long combos and skill usage, has higher speed than warlords or base warriors, can't take as much punishment as other warriors but have higher versatilty. Brawler- gains bonuses to both medium and heavy armor, though less than the bonuses gained by knight and warlord, gains very high bonus to attack power when fighting while unarmed, highest critical rate and speed of all warriors, more balanced than warlord.
Mages- specialize in keeping away from enemies and casting spells from afar, cannot take serious damage though, subclasses are extremely effective in their respective areas, but mages generally function poorly alone, especially at lower levels. Wear cloth or light armor, and as weapons have staves (increase magic attack and MP pool) or tomes (increase MP pool and physical defenses) Subclasses- Black Wizard- wears light or cloth armors, gains bonuses with staves, offensive based magic user, learns many damaging spells and several debuff spells (stat ailments and effects such as poison or paralysis), and only class that can use the highest level offensive magic, but has minimal support ability. White Cleric- wear light or cloth armors, gains bonuses with tomes, supporting magic user, learns relatively few damaging spells, but learns many healing and support magics, only class that can learn highest level suppost spells, but has very little direct combat ability on its own, but functions great in teams, higher levels can learn summon spells and powerful holy magic that Black Wizards don't have access too, though they aren't quite as strong as their offensive counterparts stronger spells. Red Warlock- wears cloth armor only but gains small defense bonus unlike White Cleric and Black Wizard, gains slight bonuses with both staves or tomes, balanced magic user, learns both powerful offensive and useful supportive spells, but cannot learn the highest level magics of either side.
Rogues- main stats are speed and luck, specialize in dodging attacks and scoring critical hits, more durable than mages but much less than warriors wear light or medium armors, wield twin daggers or bows, generally very skilled at taking down individual enemies, though they are weak against groups. Subclasses- Archer- gains bonus to light armor and bows, attacks from distance, low dps but highest critical hit rate, learns skills with special arrows capable of doing extra damage, hiting multiple enemies, slowing enemies, etc. Assassin- wears either medium or light armors but gains no bonuses to them, slight bonus to daggers, great bonus to critical hit rate, highest speed and 2nd highest critical hit rate of all classes, but low defense and weak in open battle, especially without support, highest dps, higher levels can inflict devestating damage with criticals, relatively few skills to use however, most are passive that boost stealth and critical capabilities. Ranger- slight bonus to both daggers and bows, bonus to medium armor, at lower to mid levels learn many gadget based skills, things like traps or poisons, at higher levels they can turn wild animals into allies and recruit an animal that can be summoned via a skill, only a single animal can be gained at a time however (higher levels can recruit stronger animals), generally a little better alone than other rogues.
Freelancer- A blank slate character, stats grow evenly, freelancers are outside the main three classes, and can equip any armor or weapon type, however, while known to be more powerful early on, due to unspecialized stat growth and player choice in specialization, they are significantly harder to work with than other classes, and take much greater care to build properly, especially at higher levels, the phrase "jack of all trades and master of none" is an apt description for a freelancer, they can also learn any type of skill but must complete special quests to unlock different types of skills before being able to learn them.
Arimeath: The world of Destiny Chronicles, and more specifically the continent itself (and only large landmass of the game's world) the game is set on, a medieval fantasy type planet, the Dwarves and some Human settlements have more advanced (steam punk type) technology. Arimeath's expanse is spread in the shape of a 4 pointed star, with each point being a different country and home to the different races. Ralagoth- The norther nation and home of the Dwarves, Ralagoth is made up of mountains, wastelands, and rocky canyons, though known to have great mineral resources. Ondor- the eastern nation and home of the Elves, covered in dense forests with several large rivers and a few small valleys. Corland- the western nation and home of Humans, largely plains and grasslands, with a few small forests, and a small mountain range near the Capitol Sumara- the southern nation and home of all 4 beast tribes as well as being the most varied in terrain, each tribe occupying different regions, the southern most end is desert and home to the Scal Tribe, the norther portion of the country nearest the capitol is mostly grassland and occupied by the Bo Tribe, the central region is occupied by both the Lago and Fa Tribes and is covered in woodlands (less dense than Ondor), they occupy the east and west sides respectively Capitol- the center, only a single settlement, the city of the same name as the territory, the city is enormous and provides transport into each of the other nations, the most advanced city in Arimeath, even having small (1 or 2 people max and quite expensive) motor vehicles
Stats: stats of course determine a characters general abilities in and out of combat, and breakdown as follows: Strength- Physical Attack, high strength allows "intimidation" of NPCs in certain dialogues Intelligence- Magic Attack, also influences certain dialogue with NPCs Toughness- Physical Defense Wisdom- Magic Defense Speed- how fast a character moves and attacks Luck- affects all stats slightly, as well as item and money drops, as well as slightly effecting the types of enemies that spawn, luck combined with strength/intelligence also determines physical/magical critical hit rate. HP and MP- HP is of course the health a character has, and MP is the energy used for spells and other skills, HP is determined by strength and toughness, MP is determined by intelligence and wisdom. Stat Growth: depending on class, stats will naturally increase on their own to a certain degree, but with each level PCs earn a few points to spend in stats of their choice, most either use them to increase the already higher aspects, such as increasing a Mage's Intelligence while others use the points to mitigate weak points, such as increasing a Warlord's speed
Armors: Heavy- highest defense by far, but weakens speed, special effects in heavy armors are least likely and generally weakest compared to other armors. Medium- less armor than heavy, but no speed detriment, special effects are less rare than heavy armors and are usually slightly better Light- weaker than medium armor, but grants boost to speed, special effects are semi-common but not usually much better than those found in typical medium armor, often raises critical hit rate as well. Cloth- lowest defensive abilites by far, but special effects are common and frequently high level.
Accessories: each character can equip a single accessory item at a time, these items are more rare and always have special effects, often more than one (no more than three though), and come in countless shapes, rings, necklaces, belts, and much more, there are also more unique accessories that have more unique effects, including things that actually alter the players avatar itself, including functional wings that allow brief flight.
