He is widely considered a genius on the comic-drawing scene, but without his assistant, he'd most likely get lost even on a local small-city airport. In a sense, both of them need the other one's existence, but it's just a question of (time) whether their nerves are as sturdy as to take it.

Don't forget the scripts, sir.

"I was planning to get some food, but I got a bit lost and I forgot... But I got the newest issue of Shonen Jump instead!"

Name: Izumi-Tsukatani Naruhiko
Nicknames: N/A
Age: 24
Birth Date: 16/10
Gender: Male
Species: Human
Occupation: Mangaka
Original Home: Tokyo
Home at this time: Tokyo, Ikebukuro city part
Theme Song: One OK Rock - Deeper Deeper

Appearance:
Height: 185 centimeters
|Hair color: Dark purple
Eye color: Bright blue
Skin: Very pale
Tattoos: N/A
Piercings: N/A
Extras: N/A
Physical Limitations: Can just about run up the stairs a few floors, or walk for several hours, though he could definitely utilize a gym pass.
Style: Casual and cool; he likes what's cool right now and casual at the same time, and there's nothing he loves as much as anime franchise, and though he doesn't really dress like a party animal, he can't be denied a bit of style. He takes care that his clothes are high-quality.

Naruhiko is a quite tall guy, though he possesses the lean built and nigh-translucent pale skin color of a person that doesn't frequent the sunlight-filled areas more often than five times in a year. He does have some muscles, but those seem to be mostly in his tongue and brain, since he's far better with talking and thinking than physical activity. And as if his naturally light skin wasn't enough, he looks even paler by staying inside most of the time. He's got soft, youthful facial features, on the border of appearing androgynous, but he doesn't look like a child. He's got tall cheekbones and almond-shaped, large, dreamy eyes of a vibrant colors, and while lacking a strong and/or pointed chin, he has a sweet smile. His eyes have a bright blue color, in contrast with his deep purple-colored hair. That is cut unevenly (when did he last see the hairdresser?) and cascades somewhere to his ribs, with long, scruffy bangs that fall into his eyes and frame his face, while the rest is bound to a low ponytail on most occasions, or, while drawing, pinned up with a hair clasp, and the bangs are swept out of his face (either by a bandanna, pinned away with bobby pins or swept back with a hairband). He likes to wear comfortable clothes, but cares quite a lot about the quality - baggy and often torn jeans together with shirts and T-shirts form the majority of his attire. He loves to wear T-shirts printed with the images of his favorite characters and will NOT hesitate to take that Death Note T-shirt to a print conference. He often wears hoodies and long, comfortable jackets just as well, having a liking for wearing the hood up, along with large patterned scarves and gloves, or baggy hats. And one thing he's almost guaranteed to be seen with are neon-colored trainers.

Naruhiko, in cosplay as always! | +

Personality:
Likes: Sleeping, drawing, comics and animated series, cosplaying, franchise, his fans, amusement parks, salad, change and excitement, traveling, seeing new places
Dislikes: Press conferences, formal wear, visits to the hairdresser, doctors, insects, when the food takes long to arrive in a restaurant, being pressed to do something/complete a project, nagging
Strengths: A crazily-huge imagination and neverending stream of ideas; original and not afraid to step out of the crowd. Naruhiko gets on with his fans very well.
Weaknesses: Childish and irresponsible; lazy and incapable of taking care of himself all alone. Can't do official tasks without a supervisor and a guide.
Quirks: Getting lost on any places larger than your regular fast-food restaurant and forgetting his belongings at ridiculous times; never dressing right for the occasion. He has a tendency to panic and freak out.
Dreams: His series becoming famous and widely-recognized by people; his fans liking his series; having the best cosplays on cons.
Fears: Doctors, spiders, traffic accidents; no more franchise of his favorite series; someone close to him dying unexpectedly again
Nervous habits: He has a tendency to work at night and enclose himself in a certain place all alone when drawing; he also tends to lose track of where he is currently and thus gets lost a lot. His dress sense is affected by his favorite characters.
Eating habits: He eats little, mostly from the boxes the food comes in and by hand; he doesn't give his meals his full attention unless necessary, usually eating while doing something else. He tends to eat over a long course of time, since he doesn't always keep in mind he's eating, or stuffs his food into his mouth in a breakneck speed.
Speech patterns: He laughs, smiles and chuckles a lot while talking, although he also tends to be a bit theatrical and very expressive when speaking. He has a somewhat high-pitched voice and seems to display a wide range of vocal pitches even in everyday conversations; he jokes a lot and puts up elaborate displays of puns, sarcasm, and theatricality.
Greatest Flaw: Irresponsibility, lack of conviction to serious matters
Greatest Quality: Creativity and enthusiasm

Sexual Orientation: Heterosexual
Turn-ons: Anime cosplays, captivating eyes, curvy (not fat, just curvy) girls, a good sense of humor, confident girls, girls in boots, artistic skill, gamer girls
Turn-offs: Too serious girls, formalwear, plain girls, very skinny girls, know-it-all(s), very flirty girls, make-up overuse, red lingerie (for some reason it disturbs him)
Love Interest: N/A

How does the character see themselves?: A funny awesome artist that loves his work and his fans
How do they believe others perceive them?: A humorous mangaka and cosplayer devoted to his fans
How self-confident is the character?: Quite confident in being ridiculous, not very confident in explaining his ditziness
What embarrasses the character?: Being caught doing something others disapprove of, his more negative feelings being noticed and taken note of
What does the character want out of life?: To create art and be there for his fans... And someone to like him for who he is.
What would the character change in their life?: His little brother not dying
What motivates them?: His fans' liking his work, a sort of personal oath to both his parents and his little brother that he'll make other people happy and make them proud
What frightens them?: Car crashes and doctors; the risk of losing people that are close to him
What makes them happy?: When people like his art and he can get their interest and make their lives more interesting with it; doing his own work right and well; adventure and excitement

Introvert or Extrovert: Extrovert
Thinking or feeling: Feeling!
Ruled by emotion or logic or a combination: Pure, unfiltered emotion - he doesn't think, he just does it!
Self centered, selfish, or selfless: Self-centered, sometimes forgets about other people, but can be quite selfless
Generous or stingy: Generous, loves giving gifts
Polite or rude: Quite polite, but often forgets about etiquette
Annoying or laid back: Depends on situation - he can switch between both ten times in an hour
Optimist or pessimist: Optimistic on the outside, very pessimistic about highly personal issues
Forgiving?: Yes, unless you take his salad
Control freak?: No way!
Manipulative?: Not at all.
Patient?: Not in your sweetest dreams!

To think that being famous and successful would make him mature is a common misconception. But beware! Naruhiko is a five-star example of an airhead. He's childish, likes to watch animated series and lose his cool at spotting items of his favorite franchise, and wear cosplay clothes on the place of casual wear. He's easily excitable and very expressive. However, he has an incredibly productive imagination and a love for art and stories, which are his passion and which he is greatly dedicated to. He loves the city and its life, and excitement and neverending change is one of the top things on his list of 'stuff I like'. He's confident and not afraid to speak his mind, though he often states the obvious by that, and simply behaves like a ditz in general. Being official gives him genuine issues, just as taking care of himself and behaving like an adult, since he has the attention span of a squirrel unless it involves his favorite anime or a con, and he's also quite lazy and a slob (no, recycling and cleaning are not his favorite things to think about). He has a tendency to leave trash around his apartment and wear unironed clothes, straight out of the dryer. He's afraid of spiders and doctors (the latter more), and tends to over-dramatize the issue if he has to meet with either.
However, he's also quite hard on himself. Few people know how much he presses on himself to complete his goals and aspirations and satisfy his fans; in fact, despite an enthusiastic attitude, he can stress his own self a lot with his own laziness. He isolates himself from most other people, keeping little more than workplace relations, because he's afraid that he might lose them or hurt them.

Attitude towards...
Self: Hard on himself internally, but forgetful and lazy, too; he blames himself for most bad things that happen to him, but tries to keep his own stuff to himself. Can't say he doesn't like himself, though.
Others: They're awesome people, especially if they read manga and listen to him ranting about anime and manga and like his cosplays!
Friendship: Always wished he had real good friends, but in fact... He doesn't know that much about him.
Sex: It's unlikely he ever even had a girlfriend... Most likely doesn't have an opinion on it at all.
Love: It must be something amazing... And difficult, too... He fears it a little, but it fascinates him.
Relationship: They're awesome, but he's also afraid of them failing and the ones he cares for leaving or disappearing from his life and him being alone again.
Job: His job is the best thing ever! And he cares for it a lot. It's what he's here for!

Qualifications:
University degree in art. Otherwise, he doesn't even have a driving licence for a motorbike.

Important belongings:
His drawing pens and pencils would most likely be considered the most important ones, together with the electronics such as his laptop; besides that, it's cosplay clothes, action figures and statuettes of his favorite characters. He even has 2 genuine - though completely unused - armor suits (with kimonos underneath, too) for both Kawakami Tsunayoshi and Seika Mashita, the main characters from his manga, Thousand Blades of Seika Mashita; they're on display in his bedroom. Technically, they could be used for combat, but it's not recommended!
He also owns a metal copy of Zangetsu, the sword of the main character of Bleach, also kept on display in his bedroom.

Important skills:

Drawing and writing - as a mangaka, and a successful one, he's bound to be skilled in both, and we'd be lying if we said that he isn't. He can make up a story on the spot quite easily, and can draw it quite quickly, too, though he's easily distracted, meaning things usually take far longer than intended.

Fan approach - not as expected, but Naruhiko is actually quite good with his fans and admirers, and is willing to spend hours talking to them. Not an issue to stay up late at night replying to the tweets of his fans from the other side of the globe, either.

Inspiration - not as obvious, but in fact, Naruhiko has a lot of enthusiasm to share, and will do so. If you're feeling down, he's most likely going to go and give you a whole speech on why you shouldn't be feeling down... And if it fails, he'll buy you a sweet potato.

Background:
Parents' relationship status: Not married, but were living together while his mother was still alive
Mother: Tsukatani Suzume, deceased
Father: Izumi Masato, photographer, alive
Older siblings: N/A
Younger siblings: Izumi-Tsukatani Shunko, deceased
Other relevant family members: Iwakura Miyazaki and Chisaki, uncle and aunt, and Izumi Atsuko, grandmother from father's side
Spouse: N/A
Children: N/A

The first son of a photographer and an interior designer, Naruhiko grew up in a forwards-thinking, liberal home that wasn't bent on traditions, but instead supported the boy's natural creativity. His parents did their best to help him grow up into a creative young man free of the usual bounds of society. In their beliefs to escape the traditions, his parents didn't marry (hence why he has two surnames). And he was a happy child.

When he was 3, his younger brother, Shunko, was born, and he grew to love the little boy greatly. He was his overprotective big brother - although they didn't always get on that well. He discovered his love for drawing around that time, when he would often pick up pens, pencils or oil paints, and draw onto anything he found (even the walls and doors). Once he started school, his abilities with drawing only grew, and his parents always marveled at it. Especially his father, who quite enjoyed him drawing over spare prints of his pictures.

Unfortunately, at the age of nine, while driving from his grandparents' house, where his family went for a weekend, their car got into an accident (someone hit them from the side). While Naruhiko escaped largely uninjured, Shunko died directly on the place of the accident. Since then, Naruhiko became terrified of both traffic accidents, and doctors. He was deeply struck by the event, afterwards isolating himself from the majority of others, since he was afraid of losing them, too; his classmates always considered him weird, anyway, and thus he spent most of his school years alone. He never had strong relations with his father; even though Masato supported him in his goals and ambitions, he did little else, since he didn't understand his son too well - these arguments just became more prominent as he entered high school.

He went on to an art-focused high school and afterwards an university like that, too. His first successful graphic novel, titled Sun Dust, a story about a couple of high-schoolers accidentally unleashing a mythical spirit, came out when he was 19 - and finished soon after, but it earned him recognition and fame. Currently, it is his second work, Thousand Blades of Seika Mashita, an 'epic tale of a warrior that sinks deeper into the issues of spirits than he anticipated' that is out and printing. And he takes care to show the franchise, mainly the protagonist's outfit, as much as he can.

Two years ago, his mother passed away due to old age of what was identified as a heart failure. Sometimes around that time, he moved out of his parents' house, shortly followed by the turn-around impact the sudden success of his comics had on his life. Suddenly, everybody wanted him everywhere!

Name: Tachibana Hinata
Age: 24
Gender: Female
Birthdate: October 25
Hair Color: Pale Pink
Eye Color: Hazel
Skin Tone: Peach
Height: 5’3” (without heels)
Weight: 140 lbs

About - Short
A young college graduate with a degree in Communications and Business, she was unable to find a job in her desired industries. After half a year of not being able to find any job, her older (foster) brother Kenta was able to pass her resume along to a small publishing firm. Desperate for any job (as her student loans grace period was expiring), Hinata leapt at the chance to work within the publishing industry, even if it was as a personal assistant. little did she know it was a comic book publishing firm...

Defining Quotations/Thoughts
  • First appearances mean everything
  • Makeup is a woman’s battle armor
  • All’s fair in love and war
  • The only person with your interests in mind is yourself

Aspirations
To be the lead editor on a major magazine or newpaper like TIME, the Chicago Tribune, the Wall Street Journal, etc.

Appearances: Hinata always balances fashion with professionalism in her clothing style, both on and off the job. For the sake of a better appearance, she’ll suffer any discomforts--pain, cold, or overheat. When on the job, she prefers the more classic pieces like cardigans, sweater dresses, or pencil skirts. Publically, she claims that there’s a timeless elegance to such pieces, though in truth she wears them because they last longer and are easier to find at the discount stores. (After all, classics are always fashionably acceptable!) She uses accessories to keep her classic phases age-appropriate rather than “frumpy.” In her downtime, she tends towards more current fashion, willing to sacrifice some quality for the ephermeral goal of being “hip.” It’s only in the comfort of her home when she’s sure no one will visit her that she’ll wear generics: t-shirts, sweat pants, etc. Being on the shorter side, she’s constantly found in heels; in fact, she’s worn them so long that not wearing heels hurts her feet more. Unlike most Japanese woman, she’s on the heavier (curvier) side.

A women’s dress should be like a barbed-wire fence: serving its purpose without obstructing the view. ~Sophia Loren | +

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but words… | +
Hinata has a no-nonsense attitude about most issues and can be described as a cynical realist. (She prefers to call herself practical.) She can’t stand laziness of any type, and incompetence comes as a close second on her list of pet peeves. She has a fine appreciation for sarcasm, which she wields with great competence.

Good intentions never change anything. They only become a deeper and deeper rut. ~ Joyce Meyer | +
Hinata is the daughter of two teenage parents. To support his (unexpected) growing family, her father tried jobs in unskilled labor and unintentionally ended up working as a drug dealer and carrier to make ends meet. Unfortunately, he peddled to the wrong customer and got caught in an undercover operation. When Hinata was eight, he was convicted of drug trafficking and ended up in jail, leaving his child and girlfriend without a source of income. Her twenty-three year old mother tried supporting them for another year but found caring for a child too much work. She gave the child up to the state and has never been heard from since. Daiki has tried to keep in contact with Hinata, though it’s hard given he’s still in jail.

After bouncing through a few places, Hinata was eventually placed in the care of Joyce Hino. A widow, Joyce had one child of her own before she was discovered to be barren. Though no longer able to have children, she always wanted more children and believing it her duty as a good Buddhist, she decided to become a foster mother. Joyce was a woman who took in various foster children and tried to take care of them. However, trying and succeeding were two entirely separate things. Though undoubtedly better than an orphanage or the streets, Joyce had the unfortunate inability to say “No.” With only one ‘mother” and too many “children,” it was inevitable there was a “bad apple” in the bunch and that bad apple was enough to make the rest miserable.

Rei was Joyce’s first foster child and the woman doted on her first “daughter.”A sweet and responsible girl, she was the “big sister” to the other children, at least in front of Joyce. When Joyce was busy, Rei bullied the rest of the children (except Kenta) with “pranks” or “jokes.” Hinata and Shirou, the two next eldest children who didn’t bend to her whims, were constantly the targets of the eldest girl’s vitriol. Hinata was specifically targeted as she was the only child who still had parental visits with her father, though always supervised.

When Hinata was younger, she was a studious and nice girl, always trying to make things easier on her parents and, later, Joyce. In middle school, she suffered the worst bullying from Rei and as a result, was always a quiet and withdrawn child. Her only friends at that time were her foster siblings Shirou and Mimi as they all suffered from Rei’s attentions. She was a diligent student as the library was always monitored and thus a safe place for her to spend her time.

After Misa left, Rei "adopted" Hinata as her "sidekick" when Hinata was in ninth grade. Originally, Hinata was overjoyed at being accepted by Rei and followed the other girl's directions, even though it led her to "murkier" areas. Her grades slipped and she dropped out of her clubs, opting to spend time with Rei instead. In her twelfth grade, one of Rei's schemes went awry and the older girl blamed the entire fiasco on Hinata. The younger girl was arrested and served a few days in jail for it before her sentence was changed to community service. She lost her scholarship and her position at the university. She ended up taking out student loans to fund attending a fourth-tier school instead.

Relationships

  • Hino Joyce - Foster mother
  • Kimura Mika - Biological mother - MIA
  • Tachibana Daiki - Biological father - alive, in prison, convicted for drug trafficking
  • Hino Kenta - oldest foster brother: Joyce's only son, he was a wild child in his younger years. Now, he works in security. (Age: 30)
  • Hino Rei - Joyce’s first foster child and the oldest female child. She resents all the other children for taking attention away from her and thus bullied them. However, she always acted like a responsible, loving sister in front of others, so Joyce thinks highly of her. She's a "snake in the grass" type of person. After graduating from a second-tier university, she now works as a marketing manager at large corporation. (Age: 27)
  • Misaki - the third adopted child and third oldest. Misa is the type that follows others and she latched onto Rei when joining the home as Rei was the only other female. She was Rei's "sidekick" until her aunt miraculously appeared and adopted her. She's a stay at home wife now. (Age: 25)
  • Shirou - A determined young man, he was fostered at the same time as Hinata. The two inevitably became close due to their age and both being bullied by Rei. The two remain good friends. He's training in a professional football club. (Age: 24)
  • Takumi: He joined the family about a year after Hinata. He’s physically handicapped and thus required most of Joyce’s time growing up as he constantly needed help. He’s a savant. (Age: 21)
  • Mimi: The youngest foster child but the last to join the Hino household. She’s a cute and bubbly girl. She considers Hinata as her “older sister” and Shirou as her “older brother.” Because of her age and when she was fostered, she missed most of Rei’s bullying. She’s currently trying to become an idol. (Age: 17)

OOC: Sorry this took forever! I may make some edits but it's substantially completed. I wanted to get it out to you sooner

haha, thank you. :) You seemed really excited on Sunday so I wanted to try to get it out faster. (It was actually mostly done Sunday, I just was looking for her picture to finish it.. + name and fill in some more Japan specific details.. I still need to make sure her history makes sense given Japan's social system so minor edits should be coming..) I'm looking forward to this RP!

Can you include a photo of Naruhiko's editor?

that's Ishida, the editor/the guy/the loud person that does stuff in there. he may look a bit older than on the picture but he's just in his early 30's and youthful-looking even then.

he's not taller than 173 centimeters, always wears a suit and is always smiling.

Sun Dust -
a horrorish mystery Shonen manga that didn't have too many chapters - only 35.
two high school students, Shusui and Akeno - Shusui being a huge nerd, while Akeno is more of a rebel that skips class and smokes in the park - both aged 17, once get both in detention in the school library and find a weird note hidden in one of the books. Akeno takes the note, being the curious ass he is, and he attempts to follow the instructions written on it, effectively getting the help of Shusui by talking him into it (using the promise of taking him for a night of UNLIMITED sushi feasting). The note instructs them to go to a certain location at an exact time, where they are supposed to read a sort of... Formula. Nothing seems to happen when that's done, Akeno laughs it off and says it's bullshit, but Shusui has a bad feeling, and tells his younger (15 years) sister Usagi about it. Two days later, in the middle of the night, Usagi gets attacked by an Onryo that suddenly appears in her room, however Akeno, who was staying over at the time, barges in and chases it out with a huge book.
More ghosts begin appearing, along with other strange things happening. Usagi gets kidnapped by a spirit, and Shusui, blaming Akeno for getting them into this trouble in the first place, has to go to the Otherworld to get her back. Only when that is finally done, Usagi reveals the source of their trouble, the spirit of a witch geisha that in her wish for revenge to someone made a deal with a monster, but the deal went wrong and she died. She, however, instead got the ability to awaken and command ghosts. Akeno decides to find her and defeat her, is beaten by the big monster into oblivion, but at the last moment Usagi and Shusui appear and save the day. Big Damn Heroes moment, and all ends well.

Thousand Blades of Seika Mashita -
A warrior mystery Shonen manga set in feudal Japan with yokai and samurais fighting and stuff. Going on beyond chapter 86 already.
Seika Mashita is one of the strongest daimyo in the land, but he, a greedy man, an offspring of a spirit and a woman, doesn't have enough. In his greed, he gets the spirits angry, and starts a war with his own father. The story centers on one of his samurai, the young Kawakami Tsunayoshi, a child prodigy clad in armor who is said to be able to effortlessly behead an Oni, who was raised by Mashita himself as he did not have parents, and as a child was found in the gardens of Mashita's palace, and later also a Nekomata (shape-shifting cat) called Sachi. His firs dabbles with spirits start with the Jorogumo arc - where a beautiful woman, Mutsumi, comes to the Seika residence, appearing to be just a gift (read bribe) to Mashita, while in fact, she is a Yokai herself, a spider woman, and was sent to get rid of Mashita. Tsunayoshi, bound by his loyalty to Mashita, has to fight her. Her true identity is revealed as one girl, serving in the residence (though dreaming of becoming a warrior), actually a Nekomata (a type of Yokai) tasked with keeping guard over Tsunayoshi for reasons yet to be revealed, recognizes her as a Jorogumo and attempts to fight her. Once Mutsumi is dead, Tsunayoshi is left confused, as even Sachi disappears for some time, just to return a month after with REALLY BAD NEWS.

Aida's crown -
a dark twist on the typical magical girl genre. a couple of twin girls as protagonists, one of them is secretly the villain as well.

Shoot! -
Tekken's first manga, a comedy/action one about a break-out of zombies. it was so full of puns and jokes that people loved it.

Office NPCs:

Image
Name: Iijima Kinuye
Age: 20
Gender: Female
Profession: College Studient at Hitotsubashi University / Intern at Kodaisha
About: This is Iijima-san's second year with Kodaisha. She interns full time during the school breaks and part time during the school year. A shy and polite young girl, she gets especially flustered around Ishida-san and Izumi-san. (Has that evil orange-haired man been picking on her?!) During her lunch breaks, she can often be found sitting in the lounge by the windows, gazing out the window. She claims to be in love with someone but refuses to tell the other ladies who the special man is.

Naruhiko's friends:

Image
Name: Tanaka Shihei
Age: 24
Gender: Male
Profession: Taxi driver
About: The notorious Oni Taxi, who seems to have been born with the steering wheel, studied art together with Naruhiko; he's trying to get his dream job as a videogame artist, but so far hasn't been successful, and thus instead earns for his living with an infamously fast and surprisingly legal taxi service. A wild, quite shameless young man with a knack for sarcastic jokes, he's a jerk with a heart of gold, and won't hesitate to help, although except to have to do some sort of oddball counter-favor.

Image
Name: Kasai Naora
Age: 26
Profession: Professional Judo practitioner/trainer
About: One of Naruhiko's high school friends that he's remained in contact with. You do not want to call her Naora-chan. YOU DO NOT. She possesses a tremendous amount of force and has always been a tomboy and 'one of the guys', not afraid to say her opinion, or behave like a guy in general... And she kicked more ass than the whole rest of the class added up. She has won the nation-wide judo championship twice already in her cathegory - to put it short, she's the sort of person that would fold a bear in half if it would approach her sushi!

Image
Name: Tanaka Kuniko
Age: 23
Profession: Currently a waitress; tends to change
About: The one-year-younger girl, who is actually Tanaka's sister, loves giving random small gifts to people, and always shows on places unexpectedly. She used to want to be an animator, but looks like she changed her plans and went on to study drama instead... She's a cheerful and upbeat person, just a little bit childish.

Sadatake - she draws in the Magical Girl genre, so something like Akame ga Kill would suit her!

Tekken... strongly shonen! like Naruto.

while, for instance, Naruhiko's style is more along the lines of Bleach - also strongly shonen but a bit different sort XD
