late night postins cause i can't fuggin sleep woop woop
Sorry this took so long, I've got three other dudes on the way but ahaha man I've held this up for way too long pls 4giv
Name: Akio Teien
Age: 19
Appearance: Fresh-faced and full of youth, Akio is young and untested in battle. He bears no scars, and has a single tattoo of a cherry blossom flower on the back of his neck. His body has a decent amount of musculature to it, more 'athletic' than 'powerful,' and he has a healthy tan to his skin from all his outside work. His facial structure is overall masculine but immature. His chin is reasonably strong without being chiseled, and he has large brown eyes. His hair isn't too long in the back, but is shaggy all over and is the shade of black most Japanese people naturally have.
His favorite outfit consists of a knee-length, floral-printed pink kimono. The sleeves are long and tight, and it's very well-secured across the waist with a green obi. Bandages covering his stomach can be seen poking out from the front sometimes. He wears a similarly-coloured headband at a slight angle, long in the back. To cover his legs, he wears a pair of thin-legged white hakama, and on his feet, some very normal straw sandals.
Personality: A kind, happy-go-lucky, and lighthearted young man, Akio is one of the friendliest faces anyone could meet. Easy to get along with and quick to befriend, he's a gentle soul in an increasingly harsh world. He's gained a reputation as a healer, one that he gladly accepts, and cares for anyone who might come his way looking for help. And as nice as he is, he's got zero problem with beating someone down if they're threatening the safety of others, and does so with a flair that shows he does, to some extent, enjoy the rush that comes from battle. He can be cocky in a fight, and when sparring, isn't averse to tossing good-natured quips and taunts around. Nature and gardening are two of his favorite things, and he takes immense pride in his skills at decorating his home and garden. In particular, he adores bonsai trees, and makes a good living selling exquisitely beautiful ones.
Bio: As a child, Akio often told tales of his adventures with an imaginary friend. A girl he called Sakura, one who did everything and went everywhere with him. It all seemed like ordinary childhood imagination, until a priest took notice of a spirit that had bound itself to his.
As an infant, Akio was kidnapped and disappeared for a week's time. Nobody knows what happened during his missing time, nor what happened when he was gone. When he returned, he was completely unharmed, and the only difference noted was a small green mark on his skin.
Akio aged, and his connection to Sakura grew stronger. The spirit was not a hostile one, and his parents came to view it as a guardian of sorts. And indeed, she proved herself to be a protective watcher who would stand by him in the most dire of situations. During a later attempted kidnapping by a mysterious attacker, Sakura's power awoke, and the marking on Akio's neck bloomed into a tattoo-like depiction of a flower. Before Akio could be taken, a tree sprung from the ground in front of him, launching the would-be kidnapper into the river to be washed downstream.
Over the years, Akio's bond with Sakura grew, and he began to use her powers in various ways. Building shelters for the homeless, creating medicinal plants to treat the ill, and eventually, making himself a sword, sprouted directly from a tree she grew. He found a drive in life, and realized his potential to change the world and help those who could not help themselves. Together with Sakura, once he was of age, he set off to make the world a better place.
He has yet to encounter Tamashii no Mori, but the knowledge of the looming threat has only encouraged him to go forth and give his aid.
Weapons and abilities: Akio has an aversion to killing, and much prefers to simply knock opponents unconscious. His choice in weapons reflects this, but even something designed to be non-lethal can take a life.
Bokken: Used for fights that are more serious, Akio's main weapon is a bokken that's the standard shape and size for a bladed katana. The tsuba has some neat flower carvings in it, and the wood is exceptionally hard to damage. The thing has taken an immense beating during its time in his ownership. The bokken's 'blade' is made from an unidentified white wood, and has a kanji carved on either side of it near the base, one reading 'Bright,' the other reading 'Garden.'
Sansetsukon: A three-sectioned staff, made of wood and bound together with short chains. They are made of strong red wood, and have flared knobs on the ends of the outer sections. Due to their nature as a blunt force weapon, Akio avoids striking people's heads with the staff, lessening its deadliness, and more commonly uses the weapon to trip people up and bash them into submission. He's quite acrobatic with it, and has used a variety of different techniques with it.
Plant manipulation: As a side effect of sharing his body with a spirit, Akio can control plants in various ways. Vines are commonly used to subdue foes by tying them up, but sprouting a tree to knock someone off their feet or cage them in roots is effective as well. He can also make his sword spontaneously create sakura petals, and has made a habit of doing so towards the end of a fight.
Other: He's a vegetarian. This makes Sakura's powers extremely convenient for long trips.
edit: ANOTHER ONE DOWN who is shamelessly reused
Name: Hiroto Kita, Unrelenting Storm of the North Age: 38, though he claims to be thousands of years old when boasting about himself
Appearance: Hiroto is a giant of a man, with features resembling an oni. He has very dark brown skin that bears a subdued reddish hue, and a mane of wild, bright red hair. His eyebrows are extremely thick and bushy, growing into the hair on his scalp, and a beard that lines his jaw but leaves his upper lip bare adds to his bestial appearance. Standing at 245 centimeters, he bears an extremely muscular physique that allows him to easily wield gigantic weapons. From his forehead, a pair of upturned horns sprout, and his eyes are gold and catlike. He has tattoos of flowers on his shoulders, biceps, and chest, and a tattoo of a third eye on his forehead. His jaw is very strong, and his lower canine teeth sprout into tusk-like fangs. His ears are long and pointed, and the tips have a tuft of red hair on them.
Hiroto dresses in a pair of billowing black hakama, and around his waist, a loincloth made from the skin of a tiger. It is shaped in a way that covers the back of his legs down to the knees, but leaves the front open for ease of movement. He also wears a jinbaori, made of red and gold cloth and decorated with a flower pattern. On the back, a vertical set of kanji spells out his title, "Unrelenting Storm," and tends to glow brightly when he wills it. He wears no armour on his torso, but in battle he puts on a pair of gauntlets and a kabuto helmet, the faceplate of which is modeled after his own visage. It only covers the lower half of his face. A large sake bottle is often carried on his waist.
Personality: A giant of a man with an even larger personality, Hiroto is firey, loud, and more than a little vain and self-centered. While he's a good guy deep down, it's very deep down, buried beneath layers of gluttony, thirst for battle, and extreme overconfidence. Prone to laughing, shouting long, boastful tirades, and generally making tons of noise in a fight, his presence on the battlefield is unforgettable and impossible to miss. He bears a twisted sense of honor and pragmatism, never backing down from a battle, but fully willing to divert an enemy's attention and fight dirty to win. Outside of fights, he actually does have quite a cultured side. He loves shows of all sorts. Plays, musical concerts, dances, the like. They're some of the only things that shut him up for longer than a few moments, and he's been known to scold others for interrupting them.
Bio: The 'great' oni Daidouji Higashikata once lorded over a small mountain village. She was a vandal, a thief, and overall a huge pain in the ass for everyone who lived in what she called her territory. She challenged anyone who could so much as hold a weapon to a fight, took what she wanted from them, and perhaps worst of all, made ungodly amounts of noise at night.
Dozens of warriors fell beneath her club, broken but never killed. It seemed like her wrath would never be quelled, until a young musician, Hisao Kita, attempted to lull her with music rather than clash with her in battle. While she at first laughed him off, his repeated attempts eventually began to get to her, and she took an intense interest in him.
As time went on, the musician's shows became a greater source of entertainment to her than acting like a menace. She stopped attacking the roads and stealing from the village, so long as Hisao played for her. Over the course of the year, the two bonded, and in a course of events that proved to be quite the surprise to everyone in town, fell in love and married.
Hiroto was born five years later. At this point, Daidouji was content to leave the village to its business, so long as they provided her with a generous amount of sake, and defended it as part of her territory instead of antagonizing it. During Hiroto's early childhood, he took a great interest in his mother's battles, and requested to be taught how to fight.
She obliged, and when he reached adolescence, she whipped him into shape to become a great warrior. Hiroto was put through things that would have killed a normal human child of his age, but it only motivated him to become greater. When he sixteen, and was strong enough to uproot a tree with a single strike, his mother made him his first kanabo from its wood.
It was a momentous time in his life, and he continued to hone himself into the perfect warrior. He did, however, also take time to become well-versed in dancing and musical performance, much to the approval of both of his parents. When they were confident he was fit to be a true warrior, they gave him their blessing to set off into the world and do what he could to defend it.
At first, he did, though he proved to hold a natural bloodlust that often resulted in him interrupting battles, leaping into them from the sidelines and beating down armies of poorly-trained men on whichever side came at him first. It became problematic, but few would stand up to him. His strength in battle was compared to that of a force of nature, and the destruction left in his wake to that of a natural disaster. When the rumors reached his ears, he decided on his title, and became known as the Unrelenting Storm of the North.
His infamy grew, but at the same time, so did his reputation as a solution to problems mere men could not solve. Hiroto's stubborn resolve and strength led to many contracting him as a mercenary, whether for personal gain or for the protection of their people. One village in particular, plagued by the attacks of a tiger youkai, hired him to kill the beast. Hiroto spent the better part of a month engaging in repeated vicious, bloody battles, and finally defeated it after having an immense demon-slaying sword forged for the task. He only took the sword, the youkai's skin, and tattoos as payment.
While he is strong, he is not invincible, and has suffered defeats. He holds people who can beat him in incredibly high regard, and the one who first proved themselves stronger than him has left a lasting impression on his morality. In recent years, he has become a tad less willing to take morally reprehensible jobs, though his primary motivation is still to feel the thrill of battle.
With news of Tamashii no Mori's threat, he has decided to take up arms and slay the being. Not for vengeance, nor to protect others, but simply to prove that a forest can be entirely uprooted by a storm.
Weapons and abilities: He owns three weapons, all of which he is extremely proud of. A greatbow, a kanabo, and a katana-like greatsword of immense proportion.
Bow: His bow, Sora, is a massive wood-and-iron construct that is as large as him. It fires arrows that would be more suited for a ballista, and the immense strength behind each shot is enough to shatter stone walls.
Kanabo: His kanabo, Chikyū, is a heavy steel club with multiple studs along the heaviest part, and on the very tip, a crown of steel spikes. It's his most commonly used weapon of the three, and thus the one he is most skilled with.
Zanbato: His sword, Umi, is an exceptionally large-bladed sword with a long handle. The weapon bears a severe curve towards the end, and even he appears to strain somewhat when using it. The weapon's strikes are comparatively slow, but extremely damaging. A single swing of the blade can tear through multiple beings.
Superhuman strength: As a half-oni, Hiroto is incredibly physically strong. Whether it's swinging around man-sized weapons or punching down walls, if a task needs more brawn than brains, he's the guy to go to.
Berserker rage: Another side-effect of having heritage that involves monstrous ogres, Hiroto gains more power the angrier or more excited he gets. It does, of course, have a drawback. Coming down from a session of the rage is incredibly tiring and stressful, necessitating long rests after particularly intense battles.
Hand to hand combat skill: While a strong weapon certainly aids in crushing and slashing apart enemies, Hiroto doesn't need one to rip a person's limbs off. He's quite good at both wrestling and punching things, owing to his great weight and size.
Image projection: While not exactly a combat-related power, the kanji on his back can produce images of itself, often for dramatic effect during introductions or speeches.
Other: He rides a Kirin as a mount. The two agreed to a contract of service if Hiroto could defeat it in battle. He suplexed it off a cliff. They've worked together since that day.
