The noise did attract his attention, but seeing A.V. leave only made him confirm his possible theory as to what the robot was, "Based on what I know already it must be some sort of artificial intelligence, although it seems to be the only AI. So it must have only one of itself and cannot copy, making it house only one unit at a time." Spencer spoke up as he approached the inactive unit, he seemed to know many things, yet still the dream was something he must know. After watching the one with the paper leave, he sighed as that person might not be able to answer his next question to the group, the dreams. Surely if they were all in this together they must all know dreams, and any they must have had. Ones as spectacular as the one he had, if not better.

Spencer cleared his throat, looking tired as ever yet sounding awake as ever. "Now then..." He crossed his arms hoping to get everyone's attention yet again, "...you all have heard of dreams yes? And I suppose many of you had one. Well I sure did, one very detailed dream." As he spoke he seemed to drift off back to that fiery inferno of a city, the one with the figures and steel beasts. "It carried in its essense, metallic beasts of many kinds. Bird-like ones, big boxes that spat fire, and ones that seemed to hover like insects. I can't quite put my finger as to what exactly they were, it was a dream after all. And figures wielding sticks that seemed to bring death to others, anyways, do any of you have dreams you would like to share? This will only help all of us get to know each other more, seeing what goes on inside the brain when you're unconscious." Spencer's demeanor, it showed how much he wanted to learn about his companions, and he did so for the greater good of them all.

Mayeni was inwardly very relieved, after the tensed situation that she caused was smoothly resolved. This showed the capacity of AV splendlidly.
And it showed that she could relax a little - for now. Or maybe after she had that shower and a set of new clothes.
Even though the albino-female was relieved, her face did not show any emotions, as she listened while nodding. It was time for her to lean back, and see the others reactions and interactions.
Before they could get into anything though, a noise interrupted the small gathering. Raising her eyebrows at AV sudden disappearance Mayeni nodded, at least the artificital intelligence did not seem to have lied about the 6th member.
What piqued her interest more, was the shy girl though. The noise had not been too long, and it was not too easy to know if the noise would give the location. Somehow, Emilie seemed to know, where to go, after AV stopped moving.
Raising her eyebrows, Mayeni could not help but encourage her. "You know which way it came from? Lead us there!" she nodded.

Alexa seemed to be in trying to follow orders again, but this time Mayeni shrugged her shoulders and did not insist. "You could stay here or follow us." She mentioned. "AV seems to know all our locations, so it wont matter anyway."
As their most silent member separated from the group, after saying a few barely distinctive sentences, the albino girl blinked and raised an eyebrow, but did not comment. Maybe he needed some alone time.
With the group dispersing, Mayeni did not want to expend too much effort. She instead, planned to verify her suspicions about Emilies abilities first. So she encouraged the girl once more. "Lets see, so where do you think we need to go to meet our newest member?" Mayeni asked, as she turned towards the girl once more.

The shy girl seemed at a loss about AV disappearing though, and here Spencers descriptions seemed to relax the mood a little. Appreciatively, Mayeni nodded, but she was not too eager about engaging in a long talk while idly standing around.

So, before Spencer could indulge more into his talk about dreams, she lightly mentioned: "Spencer, why dont you tell us more, while we follow Emilie to get to know our other member? So.. about the fire birds and the boxes that spit fire.. it seems like it is quite a violent dream. Maybe some kind of punishment or trapping zone? I would not think anyone would use this for training... "

***

Honestly, she did not think that leaving Spencer with the other two would be a good idea... especially not with the guy. It could cause some awkward situations... from what silence would be the best outcome. Vaguely, Mayeni noticed the aggression and tension in the male that disappeared, but did not put it too much to mind yet.

The somebody nearly dropped their dessert. The quiet calmness was suddenly interrupted with some whirring and a somewhat gentle voice. The wanderer turned to the noise and soon felt very childlike. They felt caught doing something they shouldn’t be. They weren’t too startled, however, since they knew there were definitely weirder occurrences than a small double-wheeled droid. Its four arms made the somebody think they would be some kind of service droid—maybe for cleaning or mechanics. They couldn’t recall how they knew this information.

The droid named the somebody Pax. The brief explanation to why they were here only added more questions. Pax didn’t respond for a detectably awkward amount of time but they were talking to a droid so it didn’t matter. The wanderer wondered if this droid picked up on social cues.

The droid apologized and offered to bring her to the other people. Other people! Pax was curious to meet their fellow colonizers. It was exciting to think that they’d be on a completely new planet someday. Pax wondered suddenly why they would want to leave behind everything for a new start. They had a million new questions that they knew they likely wouldn’t get the answer to. The whole avoiding emotional trauma ideal seemed like an important concept to this program.

“Can I finish my cake first?” Pax asked while tilting the package so the droid could see its contents. Part of this was because Pax really did want to finish her cake and the other part was to see how concerned with their health and satisfaction the droid was. A droid who was more concerned with their programmed mission could be dangerous in unexpected situations.

A.V. noted Pax's reaction with a sensation much like relief. There were little to no signs of distress or fear in them as they turned to the service droid she currently inhabited. Despite their extended time in stasis, their brain and hormones were still balanced and intact.

Pax seemed to be taking their time to speak. A.V. couldn't understand the reason, but decided to wait for a for minutes before attempting to speak to them again. It was clear from Pax's body language that A.V.'s physical identity hadn't left Pax's mind, or was forgotten.

Humans enjoyed food. It brought them pleasure, even if they had already acquired the sustenance they needed in a day. The others requested to eat, and now Pax was asking to finish their meal as well.

The food dispensers on the ship had been calculated to serve each member of the ship 3 times a day, with the exception of dessert, which dispensed once a day. There were, of course, reserves in case their travel went longer than scheduled, but those meals were simple, and not as pleasurable as the vanilla cake Pax held in her grabby fingers.

It was better to collect all the members of the ship as one easily managed unit. A.V. decided it would be easier to bring the others to the dining room, and then to their individual rooms. There were so many complex processes to deal with the group of individuals, and constantly changing plans. A.V. partly expected to short circuit.

"Very well. For convenience, I will bring the others here. Maybe they will enjoy dessert with you as well. Please wait a moment."

A.V. left the service droid and returned to her main body. The service droid would return to where it had been before A.V. occupied it.

--

Emilie disliked the conflict she had created with her suggestion. She had just wanted to see what was going on, and to meet this new person. Judging from their numbers, she assumed the other individual would male, and roughly the same age. Were those the only factors by which they had been chosen? Sex and age?

Alexa seemed determined to stay put. As Emilie watched her, she couldn't help but be slightly intimidated. From her stance to her fierce eyes, it was undeniable that she had been a soldier, or fighter of some sort.

Becoming aware of her own body, Emilie wondered if her stance and eyes told anyone about her now erased existence. She became strongly aware of her slouched shoulders and straightened them, knowing that there was a high likelihood they would return to the posture that came naturally to her.

If Alexa wanted to stay, it wasn't an issue. Emilie didn't mind going alone if she had to.

It seemed that Daniel had the same thought, as he gave a comment and wandered off. Emilie started to speak to him, but stopped herself. He could do what he wanted. She wasn't his mother.

Encouraging words from Mayeni caught Emilie's attention. She hid a slight frown. The way Mayeni spoke to her seemed like she was being treated a bit like a child who needed to be led, but Emilie was probably interpreting her words too far.

"It was down the corridor and to the left," Emilie said, eyes closed to focus her mind more on the sound that had disappeared, but still resonated in her mind.

Spencer spoke next, pointing out some clever things that Emilie had considered herself, but as he said them, they were clearer and made more sense.

The description of Spencer's dream brought Emilie back to her own, of the shimmering, iridescent jellyfish. The ending had been frightening, but Emilie forcefully isolated the beginning, looking only to the tranquil quietness of the first moments.

Spencer asked them to share their dreams, and Emilie didn't see too much harm.

Still, Emilie couldn't help but feel that her unconscious brain was her own business. She decided to stay quiet for now.

In that moment, A.V. came back online and turned towards them.

Too late, Emilie thought. She hoped the person hadn't been startled by whatever form the robot had taken when it left its body.

"Our other member is in the dining hall, and I feel it would be proper to meet them there. Where is Daniel?"

The attachment of the two seemingly unrelated thoughts showed A.V.'s robot-ness. It processed things differently, and found no need to waste time pausing between the two thoughts.

Emilie pointed passively in the direction Daniel had gone.

"That way," she said. Emilie wondered if A.V. would fetch Daniel like she had left for their other member. "Are you going to disappear again?"

A.V. turned its cameras down the hall.

--

A.V. found Daniel in a side hall near the storage area. He seemed agitated, and was bleeding. A.V. decided that the wounds weren't serious, but the behaviour was concerning. It appeared her had injured himself purposefully.

A.V. wanted to direct the group to the dining hall, but sh was worried that Daniel's state would worsen. She took hold of the comm system and gave an announcement to Daniel's hall.

"Daniel, please refrain from injuring yourself further. If you follow the hall to your right and make the first left, you will see a door to your right. That is the dining hall. I hope you will join us. If you intend to harm yourself further, I will have to send service droids to detain you and bring you to the medical room."

A.V. knew why humans injured themselves, but could never fully understand.

--

A.V. didn't disappear again, but seemed to be focusing on something for a moment before turning back to the group.

"Follow me," she said, and they continued down the hall.

When the reached the medical room, they made a left. Emilie made a mental map in her head as they walked. The halls seemed fairly uniform, but Emilie noticed that the doors had signs in red. When they had been walking down the other hall, she had noticed a door with a green sign. Maybe the halls had a different colour significance.

They reached the dining room, and A.V. opened the door. There was no code pad on it, like there had been on the medical room.

The room they entered into was fairly large, with some sort of machines and a counter to the right, and a table to the left. The setup felt faintly familiar to Emilie, liek it was something she had seen many times and become comfortable with.

More interestingly however, was the large, curved window and the person sitting at the table.

Beyond the window was space. Actual, true space. An inky black substance, with multitudes of stars and colours and galaxies. It entranced Emilie, and made her want to leap without looking into it.

So A.V. hadn't been lying, then. Emilie could see it with her own eyes.

The person at the table was nearly as interesting.

A new face added to Emilie's database of what normal people looked like. She couldn't exactly tell the person's gender, so perhaps she had been wrong about the male : female ratio on the ship.

Emilie also noticed the cake in the person's hand. She didn't feel hungry, but it made her mouth water all the same.

Emilie wasn't sure how to act, but decided to. She went up to the table and cautiously took a seat beside the person, studying their face in a very open way.

"Hello." There weren't really any other words that could fit in such an odd moment.

"Feel free to sit down and make yourselves comfortable." A.V. said, coming over to the table. "The dispensers along the wall hold the food you've requested. Allergies and preferences have been put into account, so each meal will be specific to your requests."

Emilie wanted a cake like the person's, but she didn't want to leave her place. She would wait to see how the others acted.

Alexa seemed unamused by the others insistence to ignore the orders given by A.V. She had already decided she was going to stay put, moving to position her back against one of the corridor walls and placing a foot against it. She listened to Spencers explanation of his dreams, going back to her own that she wished she hadn't been reminded of. Repeatedly getting shot in the head was not fun for anyone.

She didn't want to indulge the strangers with her dream, preferring to keep it to herself. She wasn't really sure why she didn't want to, she assumed it was part of her personality from before shining through. Would she always be closed-off? Or was it just because she didn't know - or necessarily trust - these people yet.

When A.V. came back to them, she leaned forward again, listening to the words that came from the robots mouth. She fell in line when instructed to follow, not questioning where they were going, though she assumed it was to meet the final member of their crew.

--

When they arrived inside the dining room, the soldiers breath caught in her throat. The view from the window surprising her. So they really were in space - not that she really doubted that as truth anyway. She moved over to the window, almost completely missing the new person. It was only when Emilie spoke that she brought her eyes away from the view and onto Pax. Deciding to simply watch the conversation unfold for now.

Naturally, the quiet, reserved, ghastly, and overall unhealthy looking man stayed with Alexa, seeming to want to more or less continue his chatter with possibly the only one that would listen to him. He simply rubbed his eyes and yawned leaning on the wall next to Alexa and seeming to use it for support. Before he can add more detail, the robotic care unit returned which caused him to sort of stagger back to his previous spot and listened.

Well then seems that he must become a sheep for the time being, nothing new to him at least. It has been going on since he awoke to a new life. It seems logical to continue this until he finds some flaw. There is one thing he wants to learn more about, the AI itself. Something seems to draw him towards it.

At the dining hall, Spencer immediately ran, which at the time it seemed he would probably crawl or need assistance, to the window and stared at there for the rest of event not giving much attention ti the new passenger. For a brief moment he stayed silent before speaking his mind. "Doesn't this view give you a sense of scale? How small we are, compared to the infinitesimally expanding cosmos, this surely gives me a sense. We are simply a grain of salt moving about to find a reef to rest upon. If you think about it, this craft is our entire world...now before I go on does anyone want to stop me?" The man seemed to know he was about to rant and drone on, and decided to end his thing with some humor. "I would like to go back our reality now."

Mayeni resisted a slight headshake at the overall halfbaked actions. They all were a really battered and tattered bunch of hermits, it seemed. Feeling a tiredness in her bones, she just followed suit. Her spirit was not broken, but she started to conserve her energy from now on. It was a pity that she could not see more of their abilities, but it could wait.
First thing she had to be in her top condition to make sense of things and react to any situation.

Upon arrival her tired eyes curiously scanned the sixth member of the group, a seemingly androgynous female as far as Mayeni would judge. A slight smile curled her lips at her own curiousity. It seemed to be a fifty fifty chance for it being a girlish boy but she just shrugged the shoulders and proceeded to tend to her needs first, not disturbing their food intake.

After fiddling around with the novel machines for a bit, it gave her a portion of nutritious food. Not caring what it was, she wolfed it down. It seemed to be chicken breast with some nutritious grain and vegetables. Wondrous how this food survived so long it still seemed very fresh.

Even if according to the Androids words they all had time - she had none! This feeling of urgency let her ignore or more like blend out the view of the universe outside of the window, that Spencer had been leaning in. She was not ignoring anything, just focussing on the main tasks, while processing every information at hand.

Gracefully, but fast, Mayeni finished her food in no time, not bothering about the dessert that their newest member seemed to enjoy very much. Standing up, she put her empty tray on something that seemed like a conveyor. Frowning, she realized she was doing it unconsciously. The conveyour mechanism made the tablet vanish again, as fast as it had appeared from the machine.
~ I dont remember being experienced with this..? ~ her head started to slightly hurt. There was a void where there should have been something.
Leaving her dessert at the table, for whomever might want it, she turned towards the Android.
"Please lead me to my room, I want to change and shower before the meeting." Her tone was not playful or willful anymore, but instead solemn and serious, as she faced the Android. "There should be help droids that can lead me, if im not wrong?" her eyes had never stopped scanning the perimenter and the other machines, figuring out that Avee controlled every of them.
A brief nod to the other five, her white-bluish hair swerved as she turned to follow the android after excusing herself.
Rest was important.
Her excitement made her heart pound a bit, but she forcefully calmed it down with a mask of coldness. Judging by the behaviour of the Android, she could measure their inner heart rate pulse and other things by a glance. Perhaps they even had chips implanted that sampled their data periodically. Not knowing how much of data sampling this android could do, she did not want to be too open for now.

A.V. turned to Mayeni and nodded. She appeared more calm than before, making a specific request rather than demanding answers or meaning.

"There are service droids located in nearly every room on the ship, and can always provide assistance or instruction when needed. However, they are not quite as advanced as me, and work best when given direct commands."

To show an example of its function, A.V. began speaking clearly. "Service droid," she said in a tone much like calling a waiter. The service droid popped out from its place in the wall and rolled toward them, stopping in front of A.V. in silent obedience.

"Please lead Mayeni to her room." A.V. slid a keycard from a compartment in her side to the droid, who placed it in a similar container on its person.

The droid nodded in understanding and rolled back toward the entrance to the dining hall, stopping at the threshold and turning back to confirm that she was following.

"I hope your room is to your comfort, and if you need any assistance, speak to the service droid or use the screen in your room to call me. To dismiss the droid, say 'dismissed'."

A.V. was so far not concerned about Mayeni leaving the group. The droid would alert her to possible issues.

--

Emilie hesitated as she heard Spencer speak, breaking her gaze from Pax to look at him. "Back to our reality..." she echoed. Her eyes glanced down at the cake left by Mayeni, who wanted to go to her room. She didn't seem to acknowledge the new member of their group, and that irritated Emilie. Mayeni's attitude made Emilie feel like some sort of chess piece or tool that the other woman was testing out, trying to figure out how to play some sort of game.

It's not like the others weren't real.

Emilie took the cake and began eating it tentatively. It was good, but almost too rich for her. She wondered if there were other desserts in the machine.

Giving up her seat, Emilie walked over to the contraptions and skipped to the dessert dispenser. Instead of cake, it gave her sliced peaches. It was strange that when she saw them, she immediately knew she liked them, and the taste flooded her mouth. Before that moment however, they hadn't even been on her mind. She had no recollection of what she liked or disliked.

Her ears caught snippets of A.V.'s instructions as she returned to her seat beside Pax. Their rooms... were they individual? Was there some preservation of identity within? Emilie struggled t imagine what her ideal room would look like. Instead, she just saw something akin to the ship's medical room. Sterile, plain, with a purposeful lack of character.

Even if Emilie didn't know what she liked, she knew a room like that would slowly drive her insane.

Wanting to investigate her room, but also wanting to investigate the new member, Emilie was torn. So far, Pax hadn't spoken, so Emilie decided to stay until they had said a few words.

"Hello?" Emilie repeated, "earth to space cadet!" The phrase came freely from her mind, like something she said often before to someone from a lost memory. In this situation it just felt apt but absurd. She hadn't meant it to be a joke, but it made Emilie bubble up in laughter. She covered her mouth to control the loud noise that had just erupted from within her.

"Sorry just," Emilie released air from her lungs to calm herself, "it's what we are, I suppose."

Alexa had enjoyed the view, her eyes dancing around the stars curiously as she took a moment to gather her thoughts. Everything was so new yet so familiar, she wondered how long it was going to take to just... feel normal - whatever normal felt like. She felt calm for a moment. Truly calm. Not the act she'd realised she'd been doing this whole time. Why was she so good at that? She hadn't even realised she'd been pretending.

When Spencer began to talk she felt herself come back to the room, turning to look at him with a blank expression. It was too.. poetic for her to understand. Was that maybe just because she was adjusting? So many unanswered questions, it exhausted the woman. Emilie's laugh made the womans lips pull into an amused smile - she hadn't really found the joke all that funny but the laugh was what got her, letting out a small chuckle that took her by surprise.

At the scent of food, she felt her stomach growl - suddenly having an appetite. She excused herself from the table to go over to the machines, pressing buttons until something eventually dropped. Some kind of wrap with meat and vegetables she discovered as she waffled it down, not fussed about the tastes or having any kind of manners to how she ate. But when she was finished, she still didn't feel satisfied - the portion was far too small. Her eyes peered to the other members who had eaten. They seemed content with their one small meal. She finally piped up, her eyes shifting to A.V. "Is there a limit to our meals?"

Daniel leaned against the wall with his head, looking down at his bloodied hands. He clenched his fists and loosened them again, and his breathing was slow and deliberate. Slowly, he felt himself acclimatizing to his body. And the stinging sensation on his knuckles felt satisfying in a way he could not quite yet describe.

A.V's voice reverberated around the hallway, advising him to stop hurting himself and join the others in the dining hall. Daniel smirked, an inexplicable reaction that felt just right all the same. Something about the android's concern, fake though it may be, was amusing.

"Don't worry," he spoke to the wall, finally pushing off against it to stand upright. "I just needed a moment. I'll head over right now."

Finally, he could begin to think about the situation more clearly rather than be confused as to himself. There was still much he wanted to learn, but the initial anxiety of knowing next to nothing was beginning to ebb away.

He began to step towards the side of the hallway he had entered through, looking more closely at the doors now. He finally found one that was labelled as a restroom and stepped inside, intending to wash the blood from his hands. Inside, he found an open cabinet full of medical supplies.

"Do you read minds, A.V.?" Daniel asked, a soft smile once again tugging at his lips.

He quickly rinsed his hands off and wrapped his knuckles with some bandages, taking only a small moment to enjoy the sensation of the soft cloth against his bruised skin. Then, he walked towards the dining hall A.V. had mentioned to find everyone else already there, along with someone new he hadn't seen before.

"Hey, guys," he said with a hint of a smile. He had meant to speak more loudly, but it had barely come out as a whisper. He wasn't sure if anyone had even heard him. But at least he was getting used to his own emotional responses.

Looking around, he saw that no one else seemed quite comfortable or settled yet. But what stood out to him more than anything was the window, with an expansive view of the cosmos they were drifting past.

One of the others spoke up about the sense of scale it gave him, and Daniel found himself nodding in agreement.

"Small, yes. Insignificant, not so much. No one looking out at space could see us, but if we blew up something big enough..." he trailed off, feeling suddenly embarrassed. "Not that I want to go around blowing up solar systems or anything. Just having a hard time containing all the thoughts in my head right now."

One of the women in the room, who seemed to be the burliest among all of them, spoke up about meal availability, and something about the brusque nature of her demeanor combined with the genuine inquisitiveness of the question made him chuckle a bit. He wasn't quite sure why. Something about her asking a question simply seemed out of place, and he found it reassuring that not everything had to be as it seemed.

Daniel walked over to the food dispensing machines and looked over the strange options. The wolf's jaws biting down on flesh flashed through his mind again, instantly making him feel hungry.

"That's a good question," he asked. "I wasn't really feeling hungry, but I think that was just the shock of waking up. Now..." he trailed off, grabbing a neatly packaged tray of steaming food. It felt strange to have food dispensed from a machine in this manner, particularly after his dream of hunting for food as a wolf, but he wasn't going to turn his nose up at it because of that. Not bothering to grab any utensils, he took a slab of chicken from his tray and began to eat it with his hand.

Pax was slowly breaking off bits of the cake with their fingers and eating them. They were very unaware of the chocolate frosting that was on their mouth and nose, although they did enjoy licking it from their fingers. Pax smiled excitedly, curiosity bubbling like a puppy exploring a new room. The light in the small droid flickered after the announcement of others coming to find them, and it wizzed back into a small closet to a docking station. Now alone once again for a brief moment, Pax moved to sit at the large dining table. They took in the rest of the room during the few beats of quiet they had.

The walls were painted instead of being any of the glaring white or gray metal of other areas they had seen. The room encompassed a sense of calm because of the light blue paint. An atmosphere of serenity had captured Pax’s mind. With a glance off to the side they noticed another door that had a sign reading “Entertainment.” They were just about to stand up and explore it when they were flooded with five people and an android walking in.

One man immediately rushed up to the window. Pax watched him stare out into the great nothingness with a similar awe they shared about it. They noticed that this guy was pretty scrawny looking. He had the same kind of glow that Pax noticed they all had from being perfectly hydrated and nourished for however long, but he still had a note of unhealthiness to him. Was it possible to get sick on a ship like this? Pax did an instinctively paranoid sniffle at the thought of a cold. Another friend strolled more calmly to the window soon after. She looked intimidatingly more capable than Pax was; she made Pax feel shorter than they thought they were. Another serious looking albino woman walked past straight to the food, more concerned with the machines. The last woman was sort of just enjoying the view and quietly taking in the room. She had a lot of cool tattoos that Pax was suddenly envious of. Maybe I have tattoos? They looked down at themself once again and noticed black two arrows tattooed, pointing down the inside of both of Pax’s legs. They were intrigued but looked up to see another guy talking about something and Pax soon came to the realization that people had been talking this whole time. They looked straight in front of them and saw the last person practically waving their hand in front of their face. Their eyes widened with a smile.

“Hi!” Pax laughed with the girl genuinely as they realized their brief dissociation from actually interacting. “Yeah, I guess my past self was kind of spacey, too.” The woman with tattoos gets up to get food and Pax notices some smiles. It seems, at least, that no one is panicking about the current situation of being in space. Pax got a sudden craving for some tea and a comfy chair, but A.V. was already being bombarded with other questions while stoic albino lady was already on her way out the door again after a meal. Pax made a note to ask their name later and maybe see if she would tolerate a conversation.

"So you want to create a bomb...?" Spencer asked Daniel who had already tried to ignore the insignificance the universe tries to push onto his existence. He already knew about something that could lead to the destruction of a large portion of a galaxy, but it'd be way too much trouble to pull off, and would most likely be used as an endless generator. "Just grab a singularity, form a three-dimensional polygon of mirrors around it, open a portion and shoot electromagnetic waves into the singularity, and close up the mirrors. Wait a while, if you don't let the waves escape, something up your alley may occur. Although it may be rude to any lifeforms affected by the outcome." The man said to the other with visible injuries, yet in Spencer's eyes, he was merely the unruly type, not likely to take anyone's kindness with even a grain of salt.

Spencer took a second to look around, it took him another few seconds to come back to the reality he was in now, and it kind of hit him a little hard. This was a dining hall! He had nearly forgotten completely due to the vastness of the cosmos taking his eyes. Only when the rest of the people began talking about food and eating did he return. "Hm, I suppose now's as good time as any to eat. Running on nothing but intravenous nutrients leaves a lot to be desired." He said before taking an empty table and resquedting a basic meal for the current time the ship had set for them. "So tell me AI, our internal day and night clocks, will you help us set them by changing the lighting and atmosphere? I am having a very, very hard time knowing what time of 'day' this would be. Can you change the lighting based on how many hours have passed since our awakening? We are still carbon-based lifeforms you know, based in Earth." He spoke the truth, and not having a good sleep schedules could lead to complications if everyone was awake and asleep at different hours. All of that amd he simply ordered eggs, bacon, toast, and OJ.

Meanwhile, in front of a personal room. Mayenis room, apparently.
She turned to the service droid, thanking it, then voicing out a strange demand.
"Is it possible to leave... the door at least half open?" she frowned at her own, anxious, behaviour, but it seemed right to request this. For whatever reason she wanted. Shrugging her shoulders at herself, she suppressed the giddyness and her excitement and pushed the door open, inhaling nervously.

What greeted her was one part scary, two parts familiar and two parts unfamiliar.
Her room was not white, at least. Also not overly simplistic or overly decorated. Large enough to have space for different parts and not feel stifled. She was very relieved upon noticing this. Observing herself, she seemed to be a little averse to the color white and small rooms.
Luckily, it was separated in wide segments, not having doors inbetween, besides the bathroom door. There seemed to be the Sleeping partition, with a bed, cupboards and dressing room, as well as something like a meeting or recreation room part with lots of books and also an art kit with pictures ,as well as something that looked like a wood crafting table.
All the room parts were in wood and pastel colors, with mostly wooden furniture - which positively surprised her -
and the smell of unused wood, as if this furniture had either been preserved in a vacuum, or had been made only recently.
She frowned - apparently it was impossible to decide what was true, what belonged to her for real and what was provided by the AI.
Going further in, the room was simply designed, a few wooden vitrines with glass doors, filled with books - not bookshelves, she nodded to this approvingly, for some reason. A rounded, extendable table with a few wooden chairs with some dark blue cushions. Everything of this was made of a type of dark wood she was both familiar and unfamiliar with.
Its smell and presence turned her eyes even redder than they were for a moment, before she composed herself, breathing in and out slowly.
Walking towards the bedding partition, she opened the closet, raising her brows at the clothes inside. They were mostly practical, uniform, of dark brown, dark red, dark blue, dark green or black tones. Some resembled military style, while other were more formal. A few pastel colors here and there, but separately in a small cupboard. There was also a package, untouched. As she ripped it open, it contained a pastel-white, flowing dress, apparently tailored for her figure.
But why did she have the feeling that it was not her own?
Shuddering, she folded the dress and put it back.
Interestingly, as she dug deeper, she also found more brighter clothes amongst her wardrobe, but besides some socks, never white clothes, not even formal shirts.
She seemed irritated by white things for some reason, and she instinctively knew that it was not her own hair or skin that she detested.
Putting everything but some clothes back, and exploring further, she discovered a few personal things like a chess board in the vitrines, as well as some paintings of nature and one of a person.
Picture | +
Image

She could not connect this painting to herself, even though it could have been her. The dreamy expression the person in the picture had, was definitely not herexpression, even though the features were almost identical. She put the picture back, shaking her head. Why did it feel as if she did not draw this and it was not her in the picture?

Sighing, she put it back, and turned it around, feeling disturbed.
Then, she also discovered a small box with an animal tooth necklace as well as a wooden comb, and a few other trinkets.
These should have been her personal belongings she did not want to get rid off.
What made her frown was a barely recognizable bullet case and a military tag. She felt they did not belong to her, but depending on the clothes she wore, they should belong to her.
The emptiness in her head had no answer for this.

Putting everything back, save her chessboard, that she left on the table, she entered the bathroom, and had a good shower.
Initially, she would have preferred to use the bathtub, however she knew that it would only make her more tired than she already was -
The discoveries of the room pressed deeply on her empty mind, making her thoughtful.
A good scrub of the head and body would make her not only feel cleaner, but speed up her thoughts and 'clean' them as well, removing the unneccessary worries and doubts.
Should she ever regain her memories - which she somehow wanted to, even though it may be futile - she would deal with that later.
Right now there were different things she had to focus on.

Looking in the mirror, again, she saw that familiar face. Sighing, she braided her hair, took out a pair of scissors from a cupboard, and cut off a half of it, so that her white hair would be half as long as before, just falling on her back, over her shoulders.
Making some adjustments, it felt normal to style and cut her own hair.
With a few quick cuts, it had medium length on her back, while a few shorter strands on the sides.
Binding her hair up in a high tail behind her, while leaving these strands open, she felt more confident.
As if this was her ritual before a ... she had to smirk at that word - mission.
Donning the necklace with a single tooth, a grey tank top, and a black leather jacket as well as black combat pants, this contrast between dark and bright hair somehow made her feel more confident.

She lacked something...sighing, she realized that it must have been a weapon. While her memories were empty,
she had unconscously prepared herself for the worst. She grabbed in her pockets and found two combat leather gloves.

Sighing and shaking her head, she put them back in her jacket, and switched her whole outfit for a more casual one, without extra paddings and hidden metal plates...

A while later, she was just sporting a normal black jeans and a dark blue and dark red lumberjack shirt above her tank top.
It was still comfortable and more casual, while not freaking out others.
Shrugging her shoulders, she noticed the service droid putting out a tea set on the table. Smelling the green tea, she raised her brows.
Feeling a little irked from being monitored, but also a bit grateful, she said nothing but some words of thanks, and took a sip from the cup, enjoying the aroma. As if it was a natural thing to do, while thinking, she set up a chessboard, and started playing against herself in silence.
The door was still half open - a strangely inviting gesture for visitors to come..

"Meals are provided three times a day," A.V. chirped in response to Alexa's question. "Breakfast is at 09:00, lunch 12:00, and dinner 17:30, which come along with a dessert. Simple snacks are available any time of day, with a limit of two per day per person. The portions unfortunately cannot be changed." She turned away from Alexa to watch Daniel enter the dining hall. He had obeyed her request to join them, and the aggressive behaviour from just moments ago appeared to be gone.

The second question came from Spencer. It tied neatly into Alexa's inquiry. "As you may have guessed when I was talking about the meals, we will be operating on a standard Earth 24 hour clock, and lights will be adjusted accordingly. There is also a curfew from 22:00 until 07:00, which is when the hall and communal room lights are turned off. During that time you are expected to be in your rooms. While the lights in your rooms are fully adjustable with no limitations, I believe it is wise for you all to sleep 7 to 8 hours a night."

"Your room can be programmed to wake you with both sound and light, so that your morning can be as pleasant as possible. The holobands in your rooms, which are meant to be worn around the wrist, display the time and also allow you to communicate with the other passengers. You will find them on your bedside tables."

-------

Placing her container of peaches on the table, Emilie decided to sit back down. The laughter that came from the person made Emilie feel at ease, more so than the men and women she had met before. Both of the other woman were assertive and deliberate, which made her feel ashamed of her more erratic, instinct-driven actions. It was like Emilie was doubting herself before there was anything to doubt. As for the men, well...

Daniel had just started eating with his hands. That was unusual to say the least.

Meanwhile, A.V. was answering questions. Emilie found the android's voice pleasant to listen to. When she faced away from A.V., it was almost as if a real person was speaking. But still, A.V's word choice and cadence still seemed far too calculated. She explained things a little too well, as if she were always reading a manual. Or an internal database.

Emilie decided not to focus on the robot and instead on the newest human companion, whom she looked towards and smiled. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Spencer had decided to sit at an empty table. Earlier he had emphasized the importance of them all getting to know each other, so she felt slightly disheartened.

"I'm Emilie." She decided to introduce herself. She was becoming more comfortable with using her own name. It seemed to be fitting her better than before. She considered offering a handshake to the space cadet, but it felt too formal. Instead she lifted a hand in a friendly gesture. "And your name is?" She took a pause before asking her next question, which she said in a lower voice.

"Did you have a strange dream before you woke up too?"

"You said expected..." Spencer said solemnly in response to the robotic voice. The voice, it seemed to be human, but even with all the technology the have currently, it is still baffling to think a machine could understand, and communicate in such a way that it was very difficult to see it as nothing more than a machine. Somebody must have studied humans to the smallest detail. But when looking towards the source of the voice, one would remember that it's not coming from flesh, but that is besides the point. The point now is that they have to learn to live with each other now, so one must get comfortable with A.V. "...does this mean we are allowed passed curfew? If not, are their any repercussions if one deviates? Or will you simply recommend going back to one's own rooms? I'm curious. Are there any rules besides the social ones such as human decency? Not to break anything?"

Spencer wanted to know everything, well, sort of. If anyone was to bombard the artificial intelligence, it was Spencer. No matter how human-like the machine sounded, he knew it was finely tuned audio and code along with the knowledge of linguistics and social sciences. Of course, it did work on him and the others very well. The one who designed A.V. made everyone comfortable and calm.

The man continued to eat as he waited for answers, very well orated answers. "And one more thing, what is the goal here...?" He did want to know the purpose they awoke before arriving to their destination...hypersleep allows one to stay in stasis for ages. "My educated guess would be to see how we might deal living in space? As far as I know, stasis would essentially freeze time for a human's body."

He then remembered that he was not alone, there were others listening, and they probably didn't share the same emotions as he did. "Well, you may withhold any information if you wish. It's that you said earlier, and I quote, "I have told you no lies, as I am incapable of doing so. I am a robotic care unit, with the purpose of caring for the humans on this ship and preparing them for the task of colonization."" Spencer then recalled that bit of dialogue and paused before he finished the last of his food with quickness as to not let it start to go stale, "Shouldn't the mission of colonization begin when we land? You know, with well thought out plans and such? Why start prepping now when we probably prepped before we were sent into the void. I'm sorry if I spoke out of turn or for far too long, I am just a very curious person by nature who wishes to see many sides and angles to a situation I am thrust into, willingly or not." He then went silent and waited for answers or for others to speak up, or even ask him to refrain from speaking. One or the other.

"Well I just learned myself but you can call me Pax," they say in response to Emilie with an inviting smile. They noted the more serious or potentially curious tone for the next question. Pax thought back to their rest from before. They have some rememberings of vague and hazy visions but has one very vivid memory too. It was the most vivid thing that Pax had so they made a mental note to write it down later.

“I think I did,” Pax lowered their voice and leaded in towards Emilie, “I wouldn’t call it strange exactly, though. I think it was kind of calming but it was a little off putting before I woke up.” They paused for a moment, "I bet we all had dreams like that. There's probably a reason for it, like maybe our memories are still there just we can't reach them. Our brains usually use memories to construct dreams so if its lacking memories then you'd think that it would just make stuff up. Or maybe it can reach some memories but only in dreams..." Pax stopped the waterfall of words with a shake of their head.

Pax thought for a moment about their dream. The whole scene was as surreal as most dreams happened to be— not that they could remember any others specifically. Pax remembered the serenity and then the destruction. Although everything seemed to go up into flames, the calmness of it all never went away. There was a reassurance in the inevitability. They wondered if the setting of the dream actually existed or if that vision tied Pax to their forgotten past. That seemed poetic but unlikely. The place seemed familiar but not like a home.

“You know, I think I might go explore around our dorms. Do you want to come with? We can keep talking.” There was so much around to see and look at that Pax wanted to learn it all. Since they were all going to be on this ship for a while, it made sense to start treating it like home. Pax stood and threw out the empty cake package. Looking around, they noticed that even this room has places left to explore. Getting into a change of clothes or at least seeing their own space seemed more interesting to the space cadet, though.

"Pax, okay." Emilie spoke the name out loud so that it would stick better in her head. She rested her chin in her hand and listened to Pax's ramblings about their dream and what it could possibly mean.

A memory? Was I a...scuba diver? Emilie thought back to the jellyfish, puzzled. It didn't seem like a memory at all. In fact, it had felt almost like her emotions were guiding what she had seen, rather than the other way around. When she closed her eyes, she could still see the dazzling colours and graceful movement of the creatures, but there was a dull feeling, remembering the fear in her last sleeping moments.

Reaching memories from dreams? Emilie wondered if whatever "process" had been used to remove their memories had wiped clean the conscious, but not the subconscious. She felt like she knew little about the two. If she slept again, would she have a similar dream? Or maybe the face of a loved one from her past.

"Exploring our rooms is a great idea, so of course," Emilie said cheerfully, pushing off from the chair with her hands on the table. She felt awake now. She remembered that A.V. had mentioned something about keycards, so she turned back towards the robot to ask, only to find that A.V. was in what seemed to be a complicated discussion.

Purpose? Emilie felt like it was too big a question to want the answer to. She liked the moment that she was in. Everything felt safe, and A.V. seemed to have their best interest at heart (or more accurately, in her programming). Emilie just wanted whatever this space quest was to not be some type of cruel trick. If she thought too hard she might panic, so she kept her mind on the people who were just as clueless as she was.

It was a very different attitude from Spencer.

---

Spencer had many questions that challenged A.V.'s mind. She took them apart in pieces, analyzing them slowly.

"One purpose of curfew is to maintain power on the ship. Lights are turned off, and the communal rooms are locked and systems such as air supply in non-necessary rooms are at minimal levels. As I, and the other units on the ship, are robots, we have no need for light and air and night allows us to perform tests and, if need be, repairs. I see no reason why you would want to be out of your rooms at that time. Another purpose is to ensure that the human members get enough sleep each night. If a problem develops with the treatment of curfew despite there being no need to leave the private rooms during those hours, certain restrictions may be placed on their movement within the ship."

A.V. wished to be polite and fair, and didn't enjoy the idea of discussing punishment. Yet still, she wanted Spencer's mind to be at ease, and it seemed that he preferred a direct approach.

"Human decency is a good phrase, Spencer. I imagine everyone aboard would like to keep to that." A.V. let out a noise that sounds like two singsongy music notes. "I don't imagine there are any other rules that need to be said."

"You have a very good memory. After your meal, perhaps you would like to visit our Library, where many of your questions might be answered by the written word?"

---

Stay in the rooms at night, got it, great, The library sounded intriguing but Emilie wanted to learn about herself and her new friend first, which was only possible with the keycards! She assertively coughed to draw A.V.'s attention and requested her card as well as Pax's. A.V. handed the cards over, then continued to discuss the big picture with who seemed to be the most curious of them all.

Curiosity killed the cat, satisfaction brought it back, Emilie mused, the odd rhyme drifting up from the back of her head. She liked these those phrases, and rhymes, it seemed.

"Got the cards," Emilie passed the appropriate card to Pax. "If we head that way we should find the rooms, I think."

Spencer had gotten his fill of the information given to him from the machine. Darn, seems this AI is able to pull out all the stops to keep everyone at ease. Conserve power huh, if he knew any better, the engineers of this spacecraft would have at least developed some sort of power supply that could last indefinitely. Colonization, that would require enormous amounts of power to keep this craft operational for interstellar travel. Everyone has to know that they left their solar system a very very long time ago. Hm...his memories...still too foggy. He had to learn more if he wanted to keep his mind at ease, the AI must know that from his body language. Ah! The machine must have been reading him, the AI, his face may not say much, but everything else he was doing must have been giving the...intelligence, what it needed to respond appropriately. Well...the library would be a great starting point to exploring the information left to the insterstellar crew to wonder over.

"You, you refused to answer most of my questions...I find that...not surprising in the least. You cannot tell a lie, but that does not mean you can say a half truth or simply choose not to say anything." The still immensely curious and direct Spencer continued to challenge the machine, albeit for a little bit longer before the man decided to finish his meal and clean up after himself. "I'll take your advice A.V. If anybody else needs anything from me, I will be in the library. I do suggest the rest of us take note of what I said." Still a bit difficult to read the man entirely, seems he didn't put much trust into something that only sounded human. Trust isn't so easy to come by after all, but the crew would need to build upon that if they wished to be prosperous, so he would at least give some of that trust to his companions on this journey through the void.
