September 2nd, 2382, 1547 Hours Earth Standard Time(EST)
In route to Luxintus Star System

"Exiting dimensional rift now. Beginning magnetic recalibrations in T minus one minute."

Derek leaned back on his bunk. It was always a little odd, but he was getting used to the shifting feeling of going in and out of the void. The strain on the metal he pressed his back against reverberated through him in a soft vibration. The onboard virtual intelligence, or VI, chimed and faded as it had done many times this past week, but it was background noise at this point. Derek still had a rough time wrapping his mind around the "Dimensional Diver" or whatever technical name it had, he couldn't really remember all of the information from cultural reintegration. All he really gathered was that the engine dove into another dimension that made travel faster. The United Earth Initiative were still developing a more stable model, the one currently in use could only go so far before needing to resurface in the home dimension.

The intercom crackled to life and the familiar voice of his commander and friend came on the line. "This is Commander Gauss." A brief charge of static popped over the frequency. "We have two dimension hops left before we reach Luxintus and that gives us one more day. I want us to be ready for anything. All Division 46 members are to meet me in conference room B at 1930 hours for full briefing. I repeat, conference room B at 1930 hours."

Derek sat up confused. The members of Division 46 had already received their briefing before they left Earth. Reaching out Derek found his data tablet on the table next to his bunk. After identifying his thumbprint he brought up the available information for their ccurrent objectives. It was all there; the strange readings, the disappearances at Hawthorne, and the communications black out with Primus. It didn't make much sense, but he trusted his superior. Dylan was in charge for a reason and that was for damn sure.

Pushing off the bunk he got to his feet and went to find his team. All four squads of ten got their own bunking areas complete with a fairly large common room. It definitely wasn't a bad setup, sometimes it even felt like a cruise liner. The door to the common area slid open and Derek took in which of his squad mates were there. It was only one. He turned to Nixon and cleared his throat.

Nixon put down the book he was reading, stood at attention, and saluted. "Sir." The words came out easily, but with respect.

Derek looked the man over; Nixon was an average looking man in both height and weight, but his knack for explosives was incredible. "Go find the rest of our team. I want to make sure everyone's ready for when the commander asks if we're ready." Derek gave an easy salute back and watched the man head off. He pulled a seat out and sat down at the table. Something was off about this whole mission. He wasn't kkeen to know, but he knew he'd find out soon enough.

"Magnetic recalibrating completed. Beginning dimensional dive in T minus five minutes."

Many of the members of Division 46 were in the gym, either honing their skills or working their muscles to insure they retain the flexibility and conditioning important with grunt work. Being in the best shape of your life can mean winning or losing; living or dying in this business.

Aditya Ram, a light machine gunner carried the M554, or more often referred to as the "pig". It weighed 16.8 Lbs with a range of 1500 meters when mounted on a tripod. But carrying the pig was not Jet's specialty. He was the team's forward observer. Trained and experienced in call for fire, he could bring hot steel on target or plant air delivered ordnance on the sweet spot when needed. He had recently qualified in calling in fire from orbiting combat ships supporting surface operations.

As a result of Operation Nightlight, Aditya had in increased cardiovascular conditioning, which allows him increased endurance; it takes a long time for him to tire. Aditya Ram and Brian Park often run together for exercise and fun. They challenge each other well. Another benefit of Nightlight is, Jet requires little sleep; his eyes are closed for no more than four hours a night. It is what he has grown accustomed to. The 28-year old Sikh warrior hailed from New Delhi, India and was very focused in his work out regime; pushing the steep bar up and down at a slow controlled rate in the gym with his Division 46 brothers and sisters.

At 6'4" tall and weighing 265 lbs, Grigory Kuznetsov, native of Moskva, Russia is probably the largest member of the team. He is also one of the more educated, next to Karen Duvall. Grigory holds a master's degree in economics from the St. Petersburg State University. Due to his interest in money and Russian ethnicity, Grigory picked up the nickname, "Ruble".

Ruble carries the M44 Innovator, an assault rifle/Grenade launcher combination. He has become quite adept at both weapon systems. He also carries an M909 Havoc with three missiles on his back during combat operations. Today, he chose to watch the Korean-American, Brian Park spar with Faahjeed Achnuu, a burly Pakistani who seems to have a knack for stealth. Ruble offered to assist Faahjeed in his corner between sparring rounds.

Faahjeed Achnuu was the team's sniper carrying the M109 Jäger for ranged shots and the M11 semi-automatic 12-gauge shotgun for close quarter battle (CQB). Faahjeed was quick on his feet and gave Brian Park, also known as the "Riddler" a run for his money.

jab, jab, jab, jab, cross Brian danced around the floor with Faahjeed trading blows; both men showing no signs of fatigue. Brian stepped with his left foot to the left, turned and cranked a right round kick aimed at Faahjeed's head. Faahjeed put his hands and arms up near the left side of his head, catching Brian's kick. He immediately countered with a jab-cross into Brian's head, which the smaller man could not defend.

"Ooh! That's gonna leave a mark, Riddler!" Tiana Clark called from the ropes. The 5'6" African American from Chicago, Illinois was acting as Brian's corner man. Tiana was known as TC around the team. But her skills had nothing to do with healthcare. Sure she could put on a band-aid, but she enjoyed the sparring matches most. You could see her shadow boxing to the fighters inside the ring. Her genetic enhancement had more to do with clairvoyance. She always seemed to know what was going to happen before it happened. If she had a sneaky suspicion about something, chances are, she was right. She could also read someone quickly and efficiently; a student of human behavior. At 5'6", she may be the smallest member of the team.

Faahjeed went for a takedown, lunging forward into Brian's left leg. Brian took two steps back, fired off a right uppercut, pushing Faahjeed's head up and then a left hook knocking the large Pakistani down onto the mat.

"Nice hook, Riddler!" TC hollered out from the corner.

"Watch what you are doing, Aachnuu," Grigory yelled at the team's sniper.

The intercom crackled to life, "this is Commander Gauss. We have two dimension hops left before we reach Luxintus and that gives us one more day. I want us to be ready for anything. All Division 46 members are to meet me in conference room B at 1930 hours for full briefing. I repeat, conference room B at 1930 hours."

Brian Park took off his gloves and held out a hand to Faahjeed Aachnuu to help him up. "Come on Bubba, let's get cleaned up for this meeting."

Faahjeed stood up, he knew a welt would be forming on his eye, just as Riddler would get a trophy as well. "You weren't pulling any punches today," Faahjeed spoke as the two friends climbed out of the ring."

"No sir!" Brian jumped down to the gym floor. "Train as you fight..."

"Fight as you train!" Faahjeed, Tiana and Grigoriy all called in unison; a line former Sergeant First Class Brian Park had used several times before.

Jacob's stomach lurched at the ship shift upon exiting the dimensional rift. He had gotten better with the feeling considering he no longer lost his lunch but it was still a cause for discomfort. The ship steadied and Jacob resumed his workout. Lowering himself in a steady rythm with the steel bar across his shoulders. The bar strained to maintain its integrity under the immense weight at its ends. Jacob keeps count in his head.
"One hundred-fourty five.. One hundred-fourty six"

The music blaring in his ears masked the sound of his fellow squadmates sparring and training behind him. He knew they were there. A real band of misfits but he liked it here. These people were like family. This thought made his mind wander but he kept counting as if it were second nature. By now it almost was. His abilities made it hard for anyone to spot for him. Then again he really didn't need it. He was the one most of the others came to if they needed something moved or lifted. "One hundred-sixty six.. One hundred-sixty seven."

When the call over the intercomm came through Jacob was oblivious. In his own world. Absorbed by his thoughts. Thankfully someone pats him on the shoulder then takes out one of his headphones.
"Oi Atlas. Looks like they need us in the conference room. Towel off and come on". Jacob knew by the soft British accent who it was.

Terri Wallace, A pretty blonde with half her head shaved. Standing at 5'3" and weighing 134lbs. She grew up on the streets of anarchal London. Before joining division 46 she was a part of a gang that was based out of the old metro tunnels. Project Nightlight gave her enhanced reflexes as we as a boost to the reflective surfaces in her eye causing her low light vision to be far superior to any other. She's sassy and quick witted. Everyone just calls her "Quill" because it was the name she recieved back when she was just a street rat. Everyone just desided to keep it.

"Alright. You go on ahead." Jacob sighs. "Didn't even get a fifth of the way through. I wonder what is going on?"
"Well if you come on we'll find out, eh?"
"Fine smart ass lets go" he wipes the sweat off a bit the swings the towel over his shoulder. Then he turned and started walking accross the room having not heard Riddlers boistrous cheer.

Kavita, as with many others, was hard at work in the vessel's gym. While not sparring, she was honing her hand-to-hand abilities in her own way. A spin dummy, armed with a variety of branching extensions, was on the receiving end of a very rapid sequence of attacks and blocks. Open palms deflected incoming strikes, backhanded forearm swings denied contact. The rounded sections holding the branches were in near constant motion, rotating around the stem rapidly while she deflected incoming strikes. It wasn't quite a fight with an actual person, but it was still a nice way to get her reaction times a bit of extra practice.

The workout was cut a bit short, as the squad was apparently needed elsewhere. Kavita looked up when she heard the intercom give a message, still deflecting strikes all the while. Damn, just when it was getting fun too. As the message ended, Kavita crossed her forearms to stop both the upper and lower sections of the dummy, catching two branches in her palms to finally still the thing. As she backed up, she swung both arms outward, spinning them one last time before she turned away completely.

She nabbed a towel on her way out of the gym, unfolding it with a few shakes. It was then put over her head and aggressively rubbed against her hair. It left said hair messy and almost spiked-looking, but instead of fixing it, she just looped her towel around her neck and held both ends. On the way out, she ended up walking beside Jacob and Terri. "Eyyy. Wonder what the briefing's gonna be. Must be pretty important if they're pulling us into a meeting this early." She rolled her shoulders and neck a few times while walking, very casual in her movements. Likewise, her small talk was friendly-sounding, more observant than inquisitive.

Nixon Adams traversed through the maze that was the UES Loki. Its halls were more alive today than they had been in the past week, Nixon assumed that it was time for final preparations. The stealth system was state of the art true, but that was just a fancy way to say experimental. A number of his more technologically inclined D-46 brothers and sisters were assisting the engineers in their work. Karen DuVall was one of them. Grigory was asked to assist at times as well.

Bringing a hand through his slicked back blonde hair, Nixon was ordered to find the rest of his particular team. The first was Karen as he knew exactly where she would be. He and Karen developed a very sibling like relationship during the recovery time post Project Nightlight and they were studied for a brief time because of a very specific genetic anomaly; apparently the genetic augmentation made them close to identical twins. It baffled the doctors, but it proved to be a door opener for new genetic understanding.

"Hello Karen." Nixon's voice was but a whisper amongst the sounds of the engine room.
"Derek asked me to collect everyone for a pre-briefing…" He paused as he looked for the proper words. "Briefing I suppose. He wants to make sure that we're prepared." The last word came out with considerable questioning.

Karen looked up from the computer panel she was working on with a quizzical expression. "Prepared for what? Isn't it just a basic reconnaissance mission." Her voice was filled with an intellectual confidence that befit her.

He shrugged. "I'm unsure. Did you hear the commander's announcement?" He said suddenly realizing the volume of the engine room.

"No I didn't." She said with a small laugh. "Even with superhuman hearing we can't hear over these damn engines. When does Derek want us?" A brief pause and then she added. "And where? That would be helpful."

"Well Derek just wants us in team 2's common room as soon as we're all available. Dylan wants us in conference room B for 1930."

"Simple enough. I'll finish up here and head down." She put a pair of safety goggles on. "I'll see you down there." She flashed a smile. "Good luck finding everyone else."

"Nixon laughed aloud. "Thanks. I might need it, but I can bet Riddler is down in the gym with some of the others." With that said he nodded a temporary farewell and was off to find the others.

---A few minutes later…

Turning a corner Nixon nearly collided with the massive form that was Jacob. "Jacob! Well it would appear you found me before I could find you." Nixon said with a chuckle, using the wall to regain his balance. "Hello Quill, Kavita." Nixon nodded a polite greeting. "It would appear that Derek wants us for a meeting before the big briefing."

"I would imagine Captain Rollins is looking to do the same thing. He's a stickler for detail." Terry said rolling her eyes sarcastically. "And a major pain in my arse."

Captain Rollins was a 5'11 brick of muscle. He wasn't just a close quarters specialist, but the man was damn near impossible to kill. With skin like steel and minor clairvoyance he was an unbreakable moving target. All of these things made him the perfect team lead for Team Nightwatch.

"Oh? I thought Rollins was a cuddly teddy bear." Nixon said with teeth showing in amusement.

Terry giggled. "A teddy bear made of steel wool and an affinity for ripping a man's arm off. She checked her wrist com after containing herself. "Well I should head down myself and get ready. I'll see you later Jacob." She said giving the large man's forearm a light squeeze. "See you all at briefing." She said waving to Kavita and Nixon.

Nixon nodded his goodbyes. "I'll see you soon." He said moving passed them. He walked further down the hall and toward the gym where more voices could be heard. As the doors slid open he found Riddler, TC, Jet, Achnuu, and the hulking Grigory.

"Nixon! How are you my friend?" Grigory greeted him with his customary hug. "We missed you in our workout today."

Faahjeed smiled through his trimmed, but quite thick, black beard. "Indeed. That left me to go against Riddler." He said winking at Brian. "And that's hardly fair."

"I am quite sorry. I had some reading to catch up on." Nixon smiled at his comrades. "But I come with a message."

"And what is that? Jet said with a cocked eyebrow.

"Derek wants to have a meeting before the briefing with Commander Gauss. We still have about 3 hours, but Derek wants it sooner rather than later."

"Sounds good to me." Tiana said. "I could use some sitting time anyway."

"You got it boss," Brian responded to Nixon's instructions. "That's the way it always is. The Battalion Commander wants formation at 1700 hours. The Sergeant Major instructs the company first sergeants to have everyone ready no later than 1645. The First sergeant tells the platoon sergeants to have their platoons in formation no later than 1630 and the platoon sergeants tell their squad leaders to have everyone ready by 1615. The Squad leader in turn tells Joe to be ready no later than 1600. Then Joe gets to hang around with his thumb up his ass for an hour waiting for the BC to arrive at 1700. No problem, boss. We'll be there," Brian smiled at the team leader. He was professional even if a bit sarcastic sometimes.

Brian rubbed his cheek where a red bruise was beginning to take shape; the right cross Achnuu landed during the sparring bout. "Man, Faahjeed, that really stings."

"So did that powerful left hook of yours," the Middle Eastern soldier retorted sharply.

"Alright, let's get changed and up to that meeting ASAP," Brian ordered the others. "We should have time for showers too. Let's get our **** squared away." Brian lead the group to their quarters. He gathered his shower gear and headed in the appropriate direction. He cleaned himself up and checked himself for a shave; dragging a dry razor over his chin. The hair was not an issue, due to its quarter inch length.

He returned to his bunk and began dressing into his duty uniform. The last item would be his black leather combat boots. They were a hybrid running shoe for flexibility and a rigid work boot for durability. They still required a shine. Brian's were always glistening to a high sheen. You could see your reflection in them.

When the time for the meeting came, Brian was present, notepad and pen in hand. He could transfer pertinent information to his PDA later.

Jacob smiled at Nixon. The man had nearly walked head long into his chest. "And here I thought I was terrible at hide and seek" he said in response to Nixon. Jacob chuckled at his own and, of course, at Terri's smart remarks. When Terri checked the time Nd gave his arm a squeeze he nodded his goodbye and gave her a soft look that is abnormal for Jacob. A look that quickly disappeared.

With that he nodded at Nixon. "See you." The hulking man passed Nixon and headed to the showers to clean up. All the while still slightly annoyed that he did not even get to warm up during his work out. He had hoped maybe he could have gotten a few shots in of Faahjeed or Riddler. As he walked he started trying to figure out what was going on. Why were they pulling them into another briefing? What made this different than their normal shakedown runs? It had to be pretty serious to cause them to call another premission breakdown.

Jacob showered quickly then returned to his cabin to get redressed. He kept his quick pace in doing so. If he had learned anything after joining Division 46 it was that Riddler was always early and always a source of good conversation. Which meant that if he wanted to kill time, getting to the meeting early would be benefitial. After lacing his heavy boots with ankle bracers her stood up and checked his shirt again in the mirror. He gave his hair another go with his comb before turning on his heel and making his way to the conference room.

Time to kill was abundant, and Kavita decided to make the best of said time. Much like the others who left the gym to get prepared, she headed for the showers and cleaned herself up. It was hardly a resort sauna, but a post-workout cleanup was always nice and relaxing. Hot water was great at soothing aches. After finishing up, she did as everyone else did, dressing herself in a clean uniform. While doing so, she took a few moments to look herself over in the outfit, pulling a few poses. "Oh yeah," she thought. "I am rockin' it."

She tried not to waste too much time showing off to herself, and gave her short hair a quick fluff with her fingertips to get it into her preferred slightly spiky style. It was too short to really spike much, but it looked a bit more interesting than a boring, combed head. Now ready, she took two steps away from the mirror, winking at herself and pointing with two extended index fingers before she turned and left her room completely.

While her mind was hardly racing, she was quite curious as to what the meeting would bring. Her approach to the conference room didn't take too long, and once she arrived, she gave the door a polite knock to announce her presence as she entered.

Derek smiled as his men filed in one by one. Jacob, Karen, Riddler. His men and women were reliable. Reliability meant life or death in the field; if you couldn't trust the person by your side in a battle than you could damn well trust no one. It was a few more minutes before everyone from his team had arrived. They spent the time amongst themselves. Nixon brought his book. Karen was scanning over some last minute paperwork and set down her data pad. Finally Kavita entered and Derek got to his feet.

The hushed talking that had been going on turned to silence as he walked to the front of the room. "So I'm sure you've all realized as I have that this mission is beginning to hold some surprises for us. " His eyes scanned their faces as he spoke. "I am not personally privy to the information. I believe that whatever it is the only one among us to know is Commander Dylan. While we have the room before the rest show up I just want to review what we do know. Riddler would you please enlighten us with that information?

Brian Park stepped to the front of the room. "Ok, you meat heads, settle down. I want to cover assignments first. Nixon, you are with Grigory; Kavita, you and Faahjeed are sniper team; Derek, you get to work with Aditya; Jacob, you are with TC this trip and 'Doc' you are with me. Check your datapads." The information on team assignments was in their inboxes.

Brian Park continued with his briefing, "the situation on Primus is unclear. All we know for certain is something breached the atmosphere and all communication with our colony is black. We don't know who is there, why this happened or what to expect. So expect anything. This could be a renegade human faction or it could be some alien intervention."

"Our mission is to conduct reconnaissance in the vicinity of the Primus capital and gather as much information on any hostiles as well as friendlies that may be present on the surface. We need to find out who is there, why the communications are out so the UENIB can come up with an educated plan to correct the situation."

"In order to complete this mission, we will operate in two-person teams. Our intent is to gather intelligence, not to engage in firefights. Avoid contact with hostiles if at all possible. Use your firepower to break contact. Break contact and get the hell away from them. If you do make contact, get on the Division net and let Commander Dylan know ASAP. Derek and I will monitor that frequency and know as soon as you let the boss know."

"Team X-Ray, you are our primary demolitions team. Have demolitions prepared, but do not plan to detonate anything. These are a contingency plan for explosives in case we need them. They may be used to breach or to help exfiltrate from a bad situation, if necessary. Your primary mission, is to gather intelligence."

"Team Sierra, even though you are the Team's Sniper element, you will not be used as snipers for your primary mission. You will travel along elevated terrain conducting the same mission as the rest of us. Be prepared to assume the role of Sniper element, should the need arise. Be prepared to cover an exfiltration route of any Division 46 Team."

"Team Foxtrot, you are conducting the same reconnaissance mission as the rest of us. Be prepared to call in for indirect fire from UES Loki. They will have a battery of heavy cannons dedicated to our support as needed. We also have two light air units available should we require attack aircraft and a platoon of atmospheric assault marines ready to jump in if needed. They will be our cavalry. I will be monitoring all of this."

"Myself and Doc Duvall will maintain a casualty collection point at various rally points enroute to our first objective. These casualty collection points will update on your datapad as we advance. If you do get into trouble, let the team know. We should all be within close proximity of one another in order to support our friends. We don't want anyone swinging in the wind. Sierra is remaining along an elevated route in order to provide overwatch if needed."

"In addition to our General Combat Team (GCT), there is an additional GCT, a Specialized advanced Recon Team (SRT) and an advanced weapons and tactics team (AWT) operating in our Area of Operations (AO). I will have communications with them and with Commander Dylan."

"For Command and Signal, we will all operate on our standard Team Frequency while monitoring the Division Frequency. Commander Dylan has callsign Diver zero six. The other GCT is known as Team Golf. The SRT is Team Tango and the AWT is Team Mike. The reinforcing platoon's Leader has callsign Dagger zero six. If we should get into trouble, our team order of succession is Derek, me, Nixon, Kavita, Jacob, Faahjeed, Aditya, TC, Grigory and Doc Duvall." The order of succession is intended to provide direction for the team, should they get into trouble. If the team leader is eliminated, the next person in the order takes his place as team leader until there is one person remaining to continue the mission.

"For Supply, I want everyone to grab two basic loads of ammunition for your weapons. Insure your cleaning kits are well stocked and take care of your weapons. Nixon, go over your Class V allocation to insure you have what you need." Class V covers ammunition as well as explosives. Nixon knew Riddler was referring to the explosives, detonation cord, fuze cord, firing devices and blasting caps. The blasting caps are transported in a wooden box by the second person in Nixon's team, Grigory Kuznetsov. Trained explosives experts know never to mix the explosives and the caps as they could accidentally go off when you least expect it. "Bring rations for three days and insure your hydration bladders are full. Are there any questions?"

"Thank you Brian." Derek spoke as he returned to the center of the room. "Communication is going to be of the utmost importance in this. More important than usual. Brian wasn't exaggerating when he said alien intervention. We believe this to be a renegade faction, but as Riddler said; be prepared for anything." Derek gestured to Brian with a wave of his hand. "Brian is going to be my second and will be feeding intel regularly as it's given from the other ten man teams and the 5 fireteams therein. If you have any questions while in the field defer to either of us and we will help to the best of our ability. Protocol on communications and signaling might change depending on what we encounter planet side." Derek paused a moment and studied his team's faces. "Now that we've reviewed the mission parameters, are there any questions?"

Attitude | +
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "
