I sighed, tossing the weapon to the side, and submitted to the arrest. If I was lucky he would just ask some questions and I could leave.. I held my hands in the air, and was soon carted off into one of the vehicles. Others were taken as well, giving me dirty looks as if this were my fault. Perhaps it was, on some level, but I knew that it was truly the slanted government who housed the real blame.

The military finished up their work, and I watched through the slotted windows with interest. The prisoners and myself were held in a separate transport vehicle, with less armor, and no weapons except for the Guardsmen's. I saw the bear from earlier leaving the scene. Lucky bastard.

They moved us to a centralized camp on the outskirts of the City, right next to the wall. It smelled of smoke, and the air was hazed. The Guardsmen were not phased, with their masks and closed-cycle respirators. They shoved us into loading cells, separating the few hybrids from the purebreds to avoid fighting. I could hear the radio one of the Guardsmen was listening to...

Quote:
Anchor 1:
Welcome to Einheit City Public Radio, thank you for joining us today. We have some important news for you today, so be sure to stick with us for the next few minutes.

PRZ NEWS PRESENTER 2:
A dozen Unity Guardsmen in armored Patrol Vehicles were involved in a firefight last week. The exact reasons are unknown, but it is believed to be the result of gang activity in the region. Guard Officials refused comment on the incident.

Multiple buildings have been damaged and at least fifteen were found dead, including a construction worker who was killed prior to the incident. No Guardsmen were injured.

City officials expect the damaged infrastructure will take months to repair, and it may be up to a year before repair work will continue on the nearby perimeter wall.

ANCHOR 1:
We’ll be right back with more news after these reminders.

ANCHOR 2:
It is now Zero Nine Twenty Two, Fifth Day.
------------------------------------------------------
INFOMERCIAL

KID:
Mommy, can we live outside of our City?
MOM:
Of course not, sweetie. Who would want to do that?
KID:
Why do people break the laws then? Do they not want us to be safe?
MOM:
I don’t know, but you’ll just have to do what you’re supposed to. That way we can all be sure that we’re safe inside our great City of Unity.
KID:
Okay Mommy.

Put an end to Domestic Dissent.
A friendly reminder from the Unity Guardsmen and ECPR.
------------------------------------------------------
ANCHOR 1:
Now we’re back. You’re listening to ECPR, and the time is Zero Nine Twenty Seven.

ANCHOR 2:
Mustelids get the blame as a fire sweeps across the western perimeter wall. Over One Hundred and Forty homes have been destroyed, many more have been damaged.

NEWS PRESENTER 2:
A fire that destroyed One Hundred and Forty homes , damaged hundreds more, and severely damaged the western perimeter wall, is believed to be caused by a chemical explosion at a Mustelid Gang drug making operation. The blaze has left an estimated Three Hundred and Fifty families homeless. No deaths have been reported at this time, however the fire continues to ravage the city despite the Guardsmen’s best efforts to stop it. Damage is currently estimated at just under one million silvers.

This has been ECPR, news.
ANCHOR 1:
The Einheit government released a statement concerning the Purebred gangs and their menace to our Unity. It has generated much controversy, in that it not only condemns the hostile purebred gangs, but seems to also be targeting the race of Purebreds themselves.

NEWS PRESENTER 4:
A City of Unity official, Councilman Jason Anderson made a statement last Friday, that “.. the Purebred menace must be eradicated at all costs.” We contacted that official earlier today, to question their stance, which seemed to dead-eye the Purebred race in general, not only the gangs which are the true threat. He assured us in an email that “..the statement was accurate, and reflected the feelings of many [government officials] that make up the Council.”

ANCHOR 2:
In sports, Julio Gonzalez reigned the mat over his competition in the latest Underground MMA matchup.
NEWS PRESENTER 5:
Julio Gonzalez celebrated a Seven-One-Zero Win-Loss-Draw ratio in the latest matchup, pushing him into the City-Wide Competitional Matchups.

According to Gonzalez’ head coach Nash Racela, the wins are due in large part to Gonzalez’ competitive spirit and will to be the best. Gonzalez himself states he competes for his Great City of Unity, and thanks the City for their support.

ANCHOR 1:
This has been ECPR, and it is Zero--
What are you talking about? That’s ridiculous.
Are you serious? Really? Well… I, uhm…
ANCHOR 2:
We’ve just received news that Councilman Anderson has been assassinated. The government has already released a statement declaring the murder the work of “Purebred Anarchist Factions”, and that they will--
ANCHOR 1:
Enough! I will not sit here and read this nonsense any further! THe government has pushed us to the brink of chaos, and I will not stand to-- Uff! What are-- AHHggh!

**A COMMOTION, AND GURGLING YELL IS HEARD, MUFFLED. THERE IS A MOMENT OF RUSTLING IN THE BACKGROUND**

ANCHOR 2:
Ahem.. The government has declared the murder was committed by Purebreds, and that they will not halt until justice is found.

See you again next time for another session of
ECPR News. Thank you.

I was back at my office in the base going over reports when I heard the latest news report over the radio. The results left my very disturbed to say the least. A city councilman calling for the destruction of all purebreds, with other leaders reflecting the same sentiments? Then there was the assassination which would only serve to stir things up further. I suddenly feared for my parents, both of which are purebreds.

I picked up the phone on my desk and dialed their number, only to be met with a voice-mail. I cursed silently and put the phone down before getting on the radio and calling Sergeant Tersi to my office. She saluted me upon entering, "You need something sir?"

I returned the solute upon answering, "Sergeant, there are things I need to attend to. I'm leaving you in temporary command of this base until I return."

"Is there something wrong,Captain?"

I let out a heavy sigh, "Hopefully not....."

((Skipping PrincessKyra due to inactivity.))

I just couldn't believe it... The government had just vocally stated that they were hunting purebreds... Purebreds like me!!

"I need a weapon..." I growled to myself softly, changing direction suddenly, and heading towards the military outpost. Perhaps I could pick up something there...

I sigh, the long day only dragging by. It was't until around noon they brought me food, which was only a bit of bread and water. I picture the sun creeping across the sky, remembering from drawings, paintings, and the like. How different would it have been, the world today, had the sun not gone out... If people could live together as they were meant to here, in Unity. Why must one be better than the other, when in reality many of us appear purebred?

A guard stood up from his desk, coming to my cell and opening it using a key card. I was the only one in my cell, and he spoke directly to me. Kay, Scott J. You're free to leave. You will be required in court in exactly 20 days, at 0900, to discuss the charges and fines against you, namely carrying a weapon within city limits. If you do not have any further questions a Guardsman will escort you to the front gate of the compound. I merely shake my head. An entire city block destroyed, a questionable dead body, and all I get are fines..?

But, rarely one to complain of a lesser offense, I merely take my items back, recognizes a noticeably familiar weight in my pack, and follow a Guardsman to the front gate. I pass by the soldier from earlier.. Captain Myers? I stopped walking, as he passed. My escort did not follow suit, crashing into the fast-walking Captain. I couldn't help but scoff, the Corporal now stuttering and apologizing for the "embarrassment".

I was lost in my thoughts, fretting about the new turn the government was taking and how it would effect my parents when my pondering was interrupted by a sudden impact with a young Corporal.

"Oh, sir...I'm so sorry about this embarrassment...I wasn't paying atten-" The soldier attempted to apologize, sounding greatly off balance.

"Corporal, it's fine. Just try and watch where you're going, I believe you still have a prisoner to escort," Speaking of that prisoner, there was something familiar about the hybrid that this corporal was escorting. It was that same citizen that I arrested during the previous skirmish! Hopefully he had learned his lesson, I didn't have time for more than a quick look before I resumed walking towards the garage to look for an unoccupied patrol vehicle for my drive to the inner city.

Caroline heard the statement and began to worry. She knew that she would hopefully be safe by her parents but she could never be too sure. She needed to find a way out of the city and fast. She thought back to the ones that the government was trying to kill. Maybe they could help her. She turned around and started to find someone who she recognized from the previous fight and then she bumped into someone. Someone rather large. The force was hard enough for her to be sent to the ground on her bottom.

I had been making my way towards the guard station, when I suddenly felt a slight bump against my side and arm. Being a bear of my size, I often ran into others who weren't paying attention, I rarely looked for anyone because I stood an easy full foot over most.

"Oh, sorry." I looked down, finally taking in who had bumped into me. She was a small, and not just by my standards, fox, wearing a heavy cloak.

"My bad, I really should pay more attention to where I am going..." I sighed lightly, offering a huge paw for the dainty female to hist herself up with. I had to repress a laugh at how easily my huge paw swallowed hers... I'm pretty sure my hand was bigger than her head!!

"There you go, all good!" I grinned slightly, helping her to her feet. "Hey. you seem kinda familiar..." I looked her over again. For a canine, she did have a natural lithe grace that only came with having power. I made a mental bet that she was probably rich...

The Guardsman escorting me had been distracted after the encounter with one of his commanding officers, he simply pointed towards the gate and turned to leave. I faked as if I would actually go towards the gate, turning down a side alley towards the armory instead. Signs in the streets conveniently marked the way. A "Weapon's Depot", conveniently in the same direction as the "Vehicle Yard".

I could hear yelling as I walked along the wall, a large group of people. The words "Equality" and "Life is Life" echoed. I heard a siren, loud above me. I supposed the crowd was noticed. This is not where I wanted to be. Mob mentality was psychotic, as usual. The shouts grew louder, and I looked back to the gates. A soldier was watching the crowd, holding a long rifle. Large, like the one I had obtained from the Patrol Vehicle earlier.

A large chunk of concrete hit the soldier on the head, and he tumbled forwards off the platform, over the wall. The response from his fellow soldiers was simply to duck, leaving their friend to the crowd below. I had a feeling things would not stay pretty for much longer. As I thought this, I saw one Guardsman leveling his rifle on the wall, a flail of laser rounds engulfed him. A single laser round hit his helmet. The super-heated bolt knocked him back, and he struggled to rip the heated metal from his face. He stayed down on all fours, and I didn't see any soldiers brave enough to stand up again.

I started running, in the opposite direction of many soldiers. None of them tried to stop me, luckily, all more focused on the events on the other end of their fort. The large Patrol Vehicles loomed in their lots, seemingly empty. I stepped into the armory, pulling out my laser pistol and jamming it into neck of the single soldier inside. He seemed more afraid of me than anything else.. I noticed. He was a purebred. The soldier begged for his life, unnecessarily however. I put my weapon away. "You should leave now," I said. "There's a mob outside, and they want blood. They wouldn't care if you're a purebred. Just leave now." He did, scrambling up and outside.

Well that was easy.. I grabbed a pack from the wall, and began loading it with as many weapons as I could. The soldiers had cleared most of the rifles, but handguns and plasma grenades were copious. The final count were two laser rifles, six laser pistols, and fifteen of the grenades, which I carried in their shipping crate to avoid turning myself into popcorn. The pack was heavy, and would slow me down. But with a vehicle, that wouldn't be an issue.

Now for a vehicle... I stepped outside.

I was just about to step into a patrol vehicle when the commotion started. First all I heard was shouting but then there was the distinct sound of laser fire. A riot! I found myself turn between taking off to warn my parents about the changes taking place in the government, and staying here to help fend off the rioters. My sense of duty prevailed, and I began heading to the defense perimeter.

I was sprinting forward, weapon ready, when I encountered a familiar site. It was that same hybrid prisoner that was on his way to being escorted out of the base, not knowing whether to consider him friend or foe I raised my weapon and took aim, "Hold it! What do you think you're doing?"

To be honest I didn't have time to make an arrest, but I'd also prefer not to shoot the guy. I could only hope he'd either help or peacefully leave the premises without causing trouble.

Caroline looked up and also noticed the giant paw that wrapped almost completely around hers. She blushed lightly as she pulled herself up, not noticing that the hood of her cloak had fallen revealing her face. "Uh.... T-thanks." She stuttered softly. She ran a paw through her red hair and felt a small bump, but other than that and the occasional bruise, she'd be fine.

Caroline smiled up at the bear she had bumped into. "Sorry about that... I wasn't paying attention I guess." She chuckled softly and looked down at her feet. She often did this while meeting new people. It was a nervous habit of hers that she tried to break many times but it never went away.

"Well.. I thought I was just leaving." I glanced down at the small crate I had, marked 'incendiary' and 'dangerous', tempted to throw it at the Guardsman, but that would do no good. He'd likely shoot me before I got it up. Rather, best to try tact. "But I'd be willing to help out here, if it's needed. I'm not sure what help I could be. I'm not good with negotiations."

"Well, if all else fails and it comes to a fight, you'll be one extra man in the line," I stepped aside and motioned for the other hybrid to go ahead of me, just to make sure he wasn't going to do an about face and run as soon as I turn my back. I didn't like this idea of recruiting a civilian to fight, but his patch did indicate him to be a mercenary, so I probably wasn't the first to do this.

((Wow, soooo sorry, got super distracted!!))

The riot had slowly creeped closer to us, no doubt focused on the military base nearby. I have no idea how we hadn't heard it before, it sounded like a roaring waterfall.

"Damn!! You had best run now, they'll be out for blood. I'm going to go try and grab some weapons and armor while the guards are distracted."

I grinned almost evilly, my heart starting to thrum in my chest at the exciting prospect of tearing apart bodies. I'm not violent by any means, except when I'm hungry, but the energy radiating from down the block was bringing out my inner animal.

"If you excuse me, I'm going to go break open some skulls..."

Caroline looked left and right seeing that everything was clear. She decided that she would steal some new arrows to modify later when she got the chance. "Here I'll come with you." She let out her own little evil grin. "I may be small but I love to get my hands dirty." She gave a wink before dashing off with her speed and grace. Bouncing from person to person, pick pocketing and raiding shops of new weapons and things she might need to do some upgrades on her bow and arrows. She looked around to see if her companion wasn't too far. He wasn't so it put a smile on her face as she returned to stealing. Her trade.

A quiet, annoyed sigh follows your statement, but he drops the box and pack roughly on the ground. Grabbing some things out of them, when he stands up he appears more a rogue Guardsmen then a mercenary. He wears the hard breastplate and abdominal armor common in the Guardsmen, similar to yours, but with red markings across the chest that he must have put on himself. Pulling down goggles over his eyes, he lifts a hefty laser rifle from the bag.

"Screw it. Let's go to work." As I speak, a fireball looms in the distance, towards the front gate, and a small shockwave shakes the ground. "There's our cue."

My attention was caught by a large explosion at the front gate, creating a large fireball. I knew there was no more time left to waste, so I made sure my helmet and armor was all on tight and did a quick check of my weapon before rushing over to the front of the base. I kept my weapon pointed forward and ready, making sure I was prepared for whatever awaited me at the gate.

Caroline stopped what she was stealing and shoved it in her bag. She caught the site of a large fireball in the sky. She grew almost hypnotized by it by realized that this was not going to end well. The citizens ran around in chaos. She looked around and saw that some were taking cover and she decided to do the same. She rushed around and hid in the shadows. Preparing herself for the explosion that will more than likely injure her.

I start jogging towards the front gate, shoving an older model military helmet on my head. The explosion had died into the glow of a large fire, and as we got closer I heard screaming. A soldier barked orders to others near the gate, and three small response vehicle appeared from the road, similar to the one I'd hoped to steal earlier. This might work out after all.

The gate was intact, surprisingly, but it glowed red from the inside. The explosion must have been outside. Testing my luck, I rapped on the hard glass of one of the vehicles. Transportation would be lovely for this. He popped the window open a few inches. "Hey, we need this vehicle!" I motioned towards Captain Myers, his rank obvious on the front of his armored helmet.

The Sergeant wasn't happy, "Who the hell are you, his personal guard or something?" I laughed, nonchalantly flipping the lock on the holster of my laser pistol. "Yes, that's exactly what I am. Now if you value your job, you know what you're supposed to do." Thankfully the Captain was far enough away he couldn't hear this exchange. He likely wouldn't have approved. Nevertheless, the Sergeant put on the parking brake and threw open the heavy door on the vehicle. "****ing' ass." He gave Captain Myers the finger, and I hopped up on the step as he stormed off towards the gate. "Lovely.."

Sitting down in the vehicle's adaptive racing seat, I admired the controls. Pushing the window open more, I call out to the Captain. "Myers, let's go!" A large patrol vehicle rolled up to the gate, ready to push it open as soon as the person in charge, now Captain Myers, gave the signal. The radio crackled. "Whenever you call it, sir. Waitin' on your go."

I followed behind the impromptu recruit as fast as I could. As I approached a nearby patrol vehicle another soldier flipped me off as he passed by, I gave the offending sergeant a curious look before climbing in on the other side of the vehicle. I had many doubts of letting this non-military hybrid use the controls.

"First off, what did you do?" I indicated to the angered sergeant as I spoke, "Secondly, you know what you're doing right?" Not long after asking my questions I picked up the radio, "Alright gang, this is Captain Myers. we need to get the situation under control ASAP. Let's disperse this riot with the lowest body-count possible, Myers out." I looked over at my self-appointed driver and nodded.

After the explosion had happened, Caroline appeared from her hiding place and rushed to her house. Her house was completely destroyed, nothing was left, not even her parents. She couldn't really feel sorry for them, she knew that she was adopted but she felt a bit sad. They had saved her from death sure, but they weren't really parents to her. They were basically just caregivers. Always there but never actually caring.
