Aamu nodded back, not entirely sure whether Eve was actually going to help them. When Azoth agreed, though, Aamu perked up. Her mask bloomed in many bright yellows and oranges, and she placed a clawed midpaw on Joe, who kind of tried to skirt out of her grasp. However, she held it firmly, as if she was trying to make a statement that her human was more brave than he looked, or maybe she was just trying to keep him from running away when it came time to actually start fighting.

Joe watched nervously as Eve opened the door and revealed the horde of hollows. He stepped forward to follow her, watching the fire erupt from her hand. He totally wished he could do that. Aamu's grip tightened on his shoulder, and suddenly he was being dragged towards the door once the hell horse and his blonde companion had vacated the vicinity. Once they reached the door, Aamu flung him with surprising force into the courtyard. He yelped in protest, but it was surprisingly easy for him to land on his feet.

Unfortunately for Joe, he had landed on his feet right next to one of the hollows that had been surrounding the library. It snarled, baring its sharp teeth. Joe backed up, trying to distance himself from it, but it lunged and knocked him to the ground in one swift movement. He attempted to pry it off of him, holding the creature away from him by grasping it firmly on each of its shoulders. Before it could slash him with its claws, he flipped it over and with his elbow, began to bash its head in. He felt as though this was vaguely reminiscent of the spar with Salem, except a lot more violent. He saw Aamu in the corner of his eye, slashing at another hollow with her claws. She was proving to be a lot more effective than he was.

Salem felt a slight boost of confidence at the idea of having both another demon and a marked human who definitely knew more than them at their side. However, that confidence went out the goddamn window when the doors opened and a huge, writhing horde of demonic undead acted as the welcoming committee. Quite a few thoughts went through his head, mostly 'How did they get through the gates' and 'Why did the others not notice this' and even 'Jesus Christ that one is ugly,' but his only vocalization was a creaky whimper.

From his shoulder, Solomon pinched the bridge of his not-nose and let out a deep breath. "Oh for god's sake. Alright, looks like we aren't gonna have to do any hunting. Get on in there." The last line was delivered with an elbow to Salem's cheek. Solomon slithered down his arm, and once he had a hand in Salem's own, he shifted forms into that of the blade he threatened the newcomers as. Salem gave him a moment to petrify, and once the transformation was complete, he took the weapon in both of his own hands and inhaled sharply.

"Okay, we got this," He mumbled to himself. He was still hesitant, but after he saw Joe get tossed out of the building, he immediately went into fighty mode and ran out alongside the others, holding the weapon above his head in a very amateur stance. It still proved somewhat effective, as a single downward slash bisected a hollow from its shoulder to its hip, and the blade's tip cut into the leg of another one next to it, making the thing fall over. Salem wasted no time in lifting the weapon again and crudely bringing it down on it, letting out a cringe and a sound of disgust when the hollow's oily blood sprayed directly into his face.

However, he quickly noticed his fear had all but dissipated. It was replaced with a sort of excitement and exhilaration. He wasn't sure what the source of it was. Knowing that he now actually stood a chance against these things? The novelty of swinging around a demonic sword? Or, god forbid, just flat-out enjoying the violence? Whatever the cause, every hollow he felled sent a warm feeling through his arm, the source of which was the mark on his hand.

Eve quickly fell into a rhythm when on the battlefield. However, today, with the presence of two humans and two demons, her flow was harder to maintain. She kept almost bumping into them and at one point she almost stabbed one of them (John?), though she didn't think they noticed. She tried to focus on the matter at hand, swinging her blade at hollows.

She backed into Salem at one point and went to simply move away. However, Eve paused when she saw his stance. It was terrible. "Not like that," she shouted over the roar of battle. A hollow screamed at her and she sliced it in half before turning back to Salem. "Hold your wrists like this," she adjusted his hands on the blade's handle, "and widen your stance." She shot a hollow that was looking behind him over his shoulder. "You'll get it," she told him, without much confidence in her voice. She plunged back into the fray, lighting a string of hollows on fire as she went.

While everyone was having fun using swords, Joe was having a grand old time experimenting with hand to hand combat. The hollow that he had been beating to a pulp disintegrated under him, and he wasted no time going to another one, practically jumping on it before it could jump on him. He grabbed it by one of its spindly black arms and flung it with surprising strength into another one of its buddies. Both the hollows fell into Aamu's shadowy form, who, in response, flung the hollow back at Joe.

Joe ducked worriedly, the two hollows falling with a satisfying crack onto the ground next to him. He touched his neck experimentally, where his mark was. He could see the faint outline of Aamu's mark pulsating on her neck as well as she suffocated a demon in her giant mass. He dodged around a few hollows, some of which were on fire, and looked towards Salem and Eve, who seemed to be doing just fine.

"This whole fighting thing's a whole lot easier when you can fight them," he said to Aamu, who had slithered over along with him. She sort of hovered, and while Joe wasn't entirely sure the other demons were doing the same thing-- well, Solomon was a sword-- he didn't entirely mind it. It made him feel sort of secure in case something totally unexpected happened. She kind of eyed him exasperatedly, that is, if a mask could look exasperated. She sort of shook her huge head and then remarked, "Has anyone ever told you how profound you are?" Joe made a face, and then both of them rejoined the fray.

Salem slid is hands into more proper positions on his sword's handles as directed by Eve, then widened his legs a bit so he wasn't just standing awkwardly and swinging a sword around with barely any weight behind the strikes. He did jump when she shot directly past him, but at her not-too-confident words of reassurance, he gathered himself and nodded.

Rushing forward, he ran through a hollow's midsection and forced it into another, trapping the two creatures on the length of Solomon's blade. One swung its hand forward and raked its claws against his chin, but he pulled his head back at just the right time to avoid getting a deep cut to the head. The two pinned hollows were finished off when Salem pulled his sword up, cutting them both open at the chest and shoulder.

For now, it seemed, their battle was going swimmingly. Basic hollows were proving easy to slay, and with every one they felled, a small amount of power was gained. It seemed like there was no way anything could go wrong.

Back inside the library, however, Mary had fallen through the portal opened within hers and Salem's apartment. It hadn't closed quickly enough for her to not notice it, and after getting too close, she was dragged in much like the boys had been on their first shift. She ended up face-down on the floor for a few seconds, and as soon as she was up, she grabbed a decorative axe from the wall and skulked around, threateningly holding it.

She stepped out onto the porch, and nearly dropped the weapon there. The sight of the landscape itself would've freaked her out, but seeing Joe, Salem, and some strange lady fighting monsters with some terrifying creatures sticking around them just added more to the pile of crap she needed to process. Her reaction was summarily given in a very dignified manner.

"WHAT THE ****."

When Eve heard someone cry out, for a moment she thought it might be one of the two new marked. However, the voice wasn't right. Too feminine. She looked up to see a complete stranger standing on the library steps, gaping at the fight. Eve jerked back in surprise, and the hollow she was fighting struck her on the shoulder. Hissing in pain, she forced herself to focus on the fight. That girl was probably going to get killed if someone didn’t come to her aid, and considering that no one else seemed up to the challenge, she’d have to do it. She shot the hollow in front of her and began fighting her way towards the girl.

She ran mostly in a straight line towards the porch, dodging around hollows in her way. However, one was getting too close to the girl. Not knowing if she was the type to just stand there in shock, Eve raised her hand and blasted a blaze of fire to the hollow. It screeched as it caught fire. For good measure, she shot it in the head. “Are you all right?” She asked the girl. It didn’t occur to Eve that this experience might have been slightly traumatizing.

Joe was very in the zone when it came to killing the hollows. He and Aamu worked like a tag team of sorts, covering each other's backs so no one would get seriously injured. Joe had a few scratches here and there, but otherwise he was fine. As of that moment, Joe had a hollow locked firmly in a chokehold, which he threw roughly into Aamu's claws. It disintegrated in her grasp, and she flexed her fingers in disgust.

Her shadowy figure slithered over to grab another one of the hollows, but her attention was elsewhere when Mary yelled. Joe's eyes widened and his head shot up to get a good view of Salem's sister. Well, they really blew it now. He stopped with the wrecking of the hollows and sort of gave Mary a halfhearted wave in greeting. "Hi, Mary," he said sheepishly, shoving his hands in his pockets as if that would help him feel less awkward. He looked at Solomon quizzically, as if to ask whether or not it was his fault that Mary was here in the first place.

Even though Joe was done fighting, Aamu was still paying close attention. When Joe went to greet Mary, he'd left himself completely undefended. A hollow approached him at considerable speed, and Aamu jumped for it, knocking Joe out of the way with the big bushy end of her tail. He fell but recovered quickly and dusted himself off. Aamu had the hollow pinned under her large body. She eyed him as if to scold him, and he shrugged angrily. She then looked towards Solomon like Joe had, and then at Mary. "Hrm... What are we gonna do with you?" she speculated out loud.

Mary tightened her grip on the axe reflexively when Eve approached, and when she started speaking to her, she sort of locked up. Oh no, someone she'd never met before was trying to initiate a conversation. She opened her mouth as if to speak, but only managed to force out an "Uhh," unsure of exactly what to say. There were no wounds on her, so physically, she was fine. But the whole situation was very much not 'all right.' "I..think," She finally mumbled out, turning her eyes away from Eve for a moment.

When Joe spoke to her, she narrowed her eyes at him, giving him a look that demanded explanation. Her glare then went to Salem, who had stopped swinging Solomon around to stare at the doorway in surprise. The two locked eyes for a few moments, until an approaching hollow decided to run towards Mary. In what was pure instinct, she swung the axe, making contact with the undead's head. The blade cleaved into its skull and got stuck, and the hollow backed away, patting at the weapon in an attempt to grab it and pull it out. Now empty
handed, she backed up slightly, looking towards Aamu as she spoke up.

Solomon, in response to both Joe and Aamu's looks, spoke up in turn. The skull design on the sword's hilt flapped its jaw as he spoke, not quite in time with the words. "Try to be a little less vague, dear. Poor girl probably thinks we're planning on eating her now," He replied, pausing for a moment to speak to Salem. "Behind us."

Salem turned and swung the sword again, decapitating a hollow that got the clever idea of trying to sneak up behind them. The horde was thinning out, and some of the pseudodemons even appeared to be hesitating to attack now. They weren't backing down, but they weren't charging forward en masse anymore. With a confident air, Salem stood up straight and balanced Solomon's blade on his shoulder, keeping a close eye on the hollows. When one snarled at him, he did the same thing right back, 'scratching' at the air with his free hand in a mocking motion.

"I'd suggest getting rid of the rest of these things before anything bigger gets attracted. Ah, Mary, was it? You should proooobably wait inside," Solomon suggested. His voice wavered slightly at the end of the sentence as some disheartening thoughts passed through his head. They had a human in Limbo, unmarked, with no demon to bind to her. She was essentially a giant signal towards any soul-starved creatures in the city, and couldn't properly defend herself against anything.

Eve frowned at Mary's reply. How could you only think you were okay? You were hurt or you weren't. "That's not a very good answer." She stepped back in surprise, however, when Mary stuck her axe in the face of the hollow. She hadn't even noticed it's approach. "Good blow," she said. "I don't really think you have the upper body strength an axe, though." After a moment of watching it stumble about, Eve shot it. It dropped to the ground immediately. After a moment, she added, "I mean, you can keep using it if you want."

While the demons deliberated about what to do about Mary, Eve plunged back into the battle. The hollows were thinning out, fortunately. The added members did make it go slightly faster, even if they were mostly incompetent. She blasted a hollow with fire and saw Azoth kick one aside, sending it flying through the air.

"Is she going to be another marked?" Eve asked him.

He snorted. "Most likely. This is incredibly sloppy. We've worked together for years and no one stumbled in accidentally."

"There was Trevor," Eve said. She shot a hollow as it dove towards her.

"Well, yes," Azoth admitted. "But we were able to handle that."

Eve wasn't sure convincing Trevor that he'd hallucinated the whole thing was considered handling it, but she said nothing and continued fighting.

Joe smiled nervously. He was going to let Salem and Solomon deal with Mary. As per usual, he was going to try to get out of the situation with as minimal work as humanly-- or inhumanly now, really-- as possible. He felt Aamu's squishy hands on his face, and he was pushed into another column of hollows. She pointed her face towards him and said, "You finish those off, we can't have them near... Mary?" she wondered if that was the girl's name. Aamu didn't really know, or really care. All she knew was that Mary was a beacon and that was bad news.

Aamu leaped towards Solomon and Salem, well, more like through Salem, and then towards Mary. She craned her neck so she was right in Mary's face, and then swished around her. She looked at Salem and then back at Mary, and somehow got even closer you. "You two look nothing alike," she concluded with a swish of her tail. Her mask became a deep shade of indigo, small vortexes of lighter blue fading into existence. "Solomon," she called, "Is there anybody near us right now that can help fix our predicament here?"

Meanwhile, Joe had finished up with most of the hollows on his side. Since he was fighting unarmed without Aamu, he had received a few scratch marks. A very apparent scratch was on his cheek, but he had stopped bleeding faster than he'd expected. However, he noticed that he had torn his favorite, albeit sexist, shirt. He looked down at the lime green monstrosity unhappily, wondering whether Salem would buy him a new one because he got all of them into this mess in the first place. He patted his shirt down and made sure he wasn't completely dead before going to rejoin everyone else.

"No. Nooo. I'm good thanks." Mary raised her hands defensively at Eve's little addition to the 'compliments' given. She sure as hell didn't want to be anywhere near those things, whatever they were, and swinging that axe had given her about a month's worth of exercise as-is. When she left to continue wrecking the beasts alongside the terrifying fire horse, Mary started to back into the library. She felt much less threatened by books and creepy decor than she did by the monsters having a party on the lawn.

Before she could escape to the relative safety of indoors, one of said monsters decided to come along and check her out. She stopped moving when Aamu's face got close to her, pursing her lips worriedly when she got even closer. "I, uh. Got my mom's looks," Mary explained with a weak shrug. "Genetics. How do they work." Internally, she was screaming, but she at least managed to keep some form of levelheadedness in the demon's wake. And for some reason, she got curious enough to reach up and give Aamu a poke on the 'cheek,' or at least the lower part of the mask that stretched to the side.

As Joe and Eve cleared up their groups of hollows, Salem got back into the fray to take out the few he had left. The first few were quickly decapitated, but for the last one, he faked it out by obnoxiously yelping "Boo!" at it. The thing flinched just enough to let him move forward and finish up. The mark on his hand let out a warm tingle, and as he looked at it, he let out a deep breath. "That was fun."

Solomon remained quiet as he was swung around, since being heard clearly at such a distance was unlikely, and after the four or so undead were slain, requested to be let go. Salem tossed him into the air, and while up there, he took his gargoyle shape again and flew towards Aamu. He intended to land on her head, but if she wasn't currently solid enough to touch, he'd just flop through her and slam into the ground. Regardless of his perching attempt's end results, he finally answered her.

"Sort of. The 'mayor' around these parts put down a rebellious display closer to the inner city. Nowhere in the outskirts, but it wouldn't be a long walk if we took a few shortcuts. I know that he'd captured at least a few demons. Assuming any of them are still alive, I'm sure at least one would be willing to lend a hand," The gargoyle explained. He looked at Mary, who in turn looked at him, and casually waved a hand. She returned the greeting, looking just as baffled as when she'd first come outside.

After finishing up the last of the hollows, Eve and Azoth rejoined the rest. Azoth eyed Mary uncertainly, and at Solomon's suggestion snorted loudly. "Another bound? This is getting out of control." He shifted. "Still, though, I can see no alternative. Where are these demons being held?"

Eve frowned intently at Mary. This seemed to be a poor idea. This girl didn't seem to have any concept of self defense, and while getting her bound would keep her relatively safe, if they left any hollow could come and kill her. "How is she going to stay safe?" She asked. "We can't take her with us, and hollows will come looking for her if we leave her here." She glanced across the group. No one here seemed especially fit to be a guard, either. Unless...

"An excellent point," Azoth said with unnecessary volume. "Since everyone else here would most likely be killed by hollows if unaided, I believe you are most fit for the job."

"What-"

"No buts!" He roared. "We will return soon enough." To Solomon, he said, "take us there."

Before Eve could figure out a way to get out of this situation, they were gone. She turned and stared at Mary. After a long pause, she said, "we should probably go inside." She walked past her into the library. Maybe Eve could find something in the library to clean her sword off with. That would at least give her something to do.

"Ooh, the 'mayor'," piped Aamu, her head wobbling at the weight of Solomon's small form. She lowered her head to let Solomon off gently, because even though she didn't mind, now wasn't the time to be lounging around on her head, no matter how soft and squishy it was. "I know where that is, and you're right, there's bound to be somewhere there who's willing to help us... and seriously hinder us, too," she commented, she distanced herself from Mary, Salem, and Solomon and began lumbering over to her human.

She sank into the ground beneath Joe, and he looked around nervously. She came up beneath him in a mass of great shadows, and he was propped up securely onto her back. He stumbled a little bit, clenching his legs into her sides like you would a horse. He leaned forward and grabbed onto her fur, which dissapated in swirls of wispy shadows. Aamu craned her neck backwards so she could see everyone and then said, "Alright, follow me." She leaped from her crouching position with a loud yelp of protest from Joe, who was somehow hanging on.

Aamu bounded out of the library's courtyard and through the streets of Limbo. Her claws made little clacking noises on the cobblestones. Joe struggled to maintain his balance, and he barely caught his hat when it dislodged itself from his head due to the speed Aamu was going. She didn't slow despite his discomfort, knowing that this was an urgent situation. They traveled until they arrived in a large plaza of some sorts. Aamu slowed and flicked her tail north west. "The manse is just up ahead, ways that way. There's a large courtyard of sorts in the front. Should we find an alternate way in or should we just knock on the doors?" she asked the group, in all seriousness. Even though sneaking gave them an advantage, they were a fairly large group, and Aamu thought they could probably handle anything the residents could throw at them.

After hopping off Aamu's head and landing on the ground, Solomon looked towards Azoth and gave him a not. "Sure thing. Try not to draw too much attention if you can help it," He quipped, turning back around to watch as Aamu got Joe ready for the trip. "Ah. Well, sorry, Salem. Do try to keep up." He waved towards his human, and after doing so, leaped up and spread his wings, flying after Aamu. He caught up very quickly, light weight and aerodynamics working to his advantage, and leveled himself by Joe's head. "Having fun?"

Salem, meanwhile, was left behind for a moment with Azoth. He turned towards the horse-demon, and raised a hand. "So, uh, hey, can I get a ri-" He was gone before he could finish the sentence. With a sharp inhale, Salem put said hand against his face and gripped the bridge of his nose. "**** me, I guess." He lowered his hand and started running, and much to his surprise, was able to make decent speed without getting winded. He was still falling behind the others, but the endurance was definitely something new. Even as they neared the mansion, he felt completely fine.

And at the stopping point, Solomon stopped himself by grasping a light pole. "I'd really like to avoid too much fighting," He urged. "Sure, there's a lot of us, but the boys are still young. What if we get overwhelmed?" In all likelihood, they wouldn't be, but the gargoyle wasn't completely confident in their ability just yet.

---

Back at the library, Mary watched as the others bolted off, leaving her with Eve. She felt the odd sensation of a stare in her direction, and turned her head to lock eyes with her. She also remained quiet, a heavy sense of awkwardness coming over her. "Uh-huh," She finally said in agreement when Eve suggested going in. Following close behind, Mary closed the doors behind them and slammed the 'lock,' a thick plank of wood, into its resting place to keep things out. With a huff, she then went to the nearest chair and plopped down onto it.

Tonight was gonna suck.

Azoth snorted loudly at Salem’s suggestion. “I doubt they would be strong enough to cause us too much trouble, as I am present, but if you would prefer a stealthier approach, fine.” He stepped back and surveyed the building. “That being said, stealth is… Not one of my strengths. I give off too much light and noise. Perhaps I could create a diversion of some kind and you could find our query while I am doing so?” He wasn’t much of a planner, either- he and Eve usually just smashed whatever was in their way until it wasn’t, but he wasn’t going to bring that up.

Eve glanced around the library once more, in search of some sort of cloth to wipe off her sword. With no luck, she sighed and wiped it with her jacket. This place was so huge. Creatures could be hiding anywhere inside it. And with Azoth not here, that left her solo- with baggage. She eyed Mary speculatively and sat down on a nearby chair, attempting to be casual. It was difficult to come off as casual when you were holding a sword and sitting perfectly straight, though.

“So… How did you get in here, exactly?” Eve said, staring at her in an honestly sort of unnerving way. She wasn’t trying to be creepy, it just sort of… happened.

As Aamu was nearing her destination, Joe wrapped his big arms around her neck. Her mass adjusted so he could keep a firm grip, but he didn't exactly know how he was hanging onto her without choking her. He would have liked another hand to grab his hat in case of it falling off due to the high speed they were traveling at, but he sadly only had two. Joe turned on Aamu's back to face Solomon, who was flying at Aamu's speed. As the gargoyle descended towards Joe's head and asked for a status report, he stuck his tongue out and said, "**** you."

At least Joe wasn't Salem, who had to run all the way there. Out of the corner of his eye he could see his blond companion lagging behind him and the demons. When Aamu slowed in the plaza, Joe immediately jumped off of her back and dusted off whatever imaginary particles he thought he had accumulated during the ride there. He listened to Aamu and Solomon make plans, and then interjected, "I would like not to get overwhelmed, thanks."

Aamu nodded. "We'll follow the gate to the back of the manse and hop it over there. I'll shift through and find some back entrance to let you in," she instructed. Her tail snapped back and forth behind her in excitement. She turned towards Azoth, and her tail flicked towards him. "Distraction. I like that. On second thought, you barge in and we'll find a window to crawl in on the side. That way, there's a lesser chance of us being caught by patrolling guards. Does that sound good?" Aamu didn't seem concerned by the apparent superiority complex that Azoth had, or the fact that he disregarded her for the most part and only refered to Solomon. She figured it was her way or the highway, and the little stone demon would back her on it.

Listening to his comrades' suggestions, Solomon's jaw tensed as he considered the plan. Sending in the loudest of the team while everyone else slipped in sounded good. Less chance of being utterly overwhelmed by whatever beasts were on patrol in the house, of which he was sure there was a great many. He turned towards Salem, who stopped bolting after the team after everyone quit moving and strolled over, pointing at him. "You're with me, of course. How good are you at climbing?"

Salem gave a noncommittal shrug. "I, uh, got halfway up a rock wall once," He admitted. For some reason, he suspected he'd have a much easier time maneuvering here in Limbo. The gravity didn't feel any lesser or greater, but he sure felt a hell of a lot stronger. If he could swing around a heavy stone blade, he could probably climb around easily enough.

"Good enough. Let's get moving," Solomon suggested. With a swing of his legs, he moved himself to the top of the light post, which he then leaped from to gain enough height to start flying again. His wings flapped until he was able to glide towards the mansion, and once at the wall, he caught himself on a grate hanging outside a window. The bars felt unpleasant under his bony fingers. A weak sanctification, or one done improperly, if he had to guess. He lacked the raw strength to tear the bars away himself, but he motioned Aamu over to help. Her muscle, provided she actually had muscle in that strange biology of hers, would work much better for the job.

-----

Mary, brushing her hair out from in front of her eye, noticed the strange stare Eve was giving her. For a few moments her face remained blank, but in an attempt to be friendly, her lips wrenched into a shitty lopsided smile. It was a nice thought, but Mary's own social awkwardness was showing pretty clearly. When she was asked a question, she opened her mouth to speak, but paused as she considered how to word it. I fell in? No, too unclear. Some butthole shadow grabbed me and sucked me into here? Too aggressive. She motioned with her hand towards the place in the library she'd come out of, as if to emphasize it. "Oh, I...Well...There was a, a portal, I guess?" Proper terminology for demonic magic wasn't her forte. "In the hallway. I guess I got too close, and it pulled me through."

Azoth nodded his head sharply at Aamu’s suggestion. “Very well, I will do as you say.” With that, he flared his wings and galloped towards the doors, smashing through it without so much of a care. “For now,” he added over his shoulders as an afterthought. He most certainly would not be obeying the lesser demon’s commands forever.

The hollows lurking inside were apparently thrown off by the abruptness of Azoth’s appearance, as they stood there for a good five seconds before moving. Azoth huffed irritably. Honestly, they could at least try to put up a fight. However, he wasn’t going to just let them swarm him, and began to spray fire over the tiled floors, engulfing the few too stunned to move out of the way. The others began to ready their attack. Azoth huffed flame out of his nostrils. It had been a long time since he had fought alone. He would have to rehone his skills.

At Mary’s words, Eve nodded thoughtfully. “Understandable. Hopefully they will be more careful in the future with portal creation.” She shifted uncomfortably in her seat, breaking eye contact with Mary as she tried to remember the correct steps for making someone’s acquaintance. She had never been good at this, but Mary seemed fairly quiet so hopefully she wouldn’t mind. She cleared her throat. “Are you…. Feeling all right?”

Aamu listened briefly to Solomon and his human making small talk at each other. When Azoth agreed, Aamu dipped her head in acknowledgement. However, when he muttered his equivalent to a finger cross behind the back, her eyes rolled in her mask, doing an almost complete rotation around her face. She looked up and reared on her haunches, leaping up and springing effortlessly into the air. She almost seemed to glide towards the window, and her claws scraped on the edges to find purchase.

Once she was steady, she turned towards Solomon. "Your friend has an attitude," she commented as she grappled her claws around the bars of the window. Her form bulged, almost as if she was building up her muscles right then and there. They shook for less than a split second, and the bars snapped. Hopefully, Solomon had moved his hands away by the time she did so.

When the bars were off, she tested it by putting one of her more humanoid hands through it, wondering whether the boys could get in. Realizing they should probably figure it out on their own, Aamu slithered in, clipping through the walls like she was made of a fine mist. She twisted her neck around to call to the two who were still on the ground. "Make haste, boys!"

Joe looked incredulous. He was entirely expecting Aamu to cart him around some more. He briefly glanced at Salem for some form of sympathy. He didn't budge.

As if Aamu sensed it, she peered out of the window again and pointed. "Vines. Climb them." She disappeared.

Joe sighed. Aamu was right, though. There were some vines, but even so, the stone the mansion was made out of had various grooves that Joe bet he could get his fingers in. He nodded to Salem, unsure of how to proceed. He grasped the bars of the gate, hoping that he could get over this first obstacle, and began to climb.

"Bit of a hothead, that one," Solomon retorted. He made a quiet snorting noise that could be called a sound of amusement, but his bony 'face' made it hard to tell if he was smiling or not. As Azoth tore into the mansion's entrance, Solomon clambered his way up the wall, his proportionally very long limbs letting him move swiftly up on the bricks and bars. He steered clear of Aamu as she tore open a window, and once she was inside, he perched himself atop the forced-open bars.

Looking down at the boys, he made a 'follow me' motion with his finger. "Time is wasting. The sooner we get done with this, the sooner we can get back to relative safety. Get up here." After speaking the order, he slithered through the window and leaped from the ledge, spreading his wings and flapping them to slow his descent. His claws clicked against the floor as he landed, and upon doing so, he looked up from his four-limbed crouch. His wide, pitch black eyes scanned the room for signs of motion, a gesture that might have been terrifying if he weren't three feet tall. Besides the commotion being caused by Azoth's forceful entry, he heard no sounds nearby, and saw no immediate threats. He stood, folding his wings over his shoulders, and spoke. "So far, so good. No guards yet."

Back outside, Salem's arms dropped. "This is bullshit, man," He complained aloud to Joe. Climbing wasn't his strong suit, but now it was their only option. Damn it to hell. With closed eyes, he inhaled very deeply, bent his knees, and then suddenly bolted forward. All that extra strength and endurance they gained after their bonding might have helped with his idea. As he drew nearer to the wall, he kicked off the ground and sent himself flying a fairly impressive distance. A hell of a lot higher than his usual jumps, which were maybe three inches off the ground on a good day. Evidently, he surprised himself, because instead of managing to grab onto something and swoop himself up into the window like a cool guy, he smacked against it and slid down a few feet until he managed to grab a windowsill.

"Ow. Okay, I'm up," He reassured himself. Halfway there in one jump. Not too bad. Looking down at Joe, he removed his hand from the window to wave, but immediately took hold of it again when the weight shift almost made him fall. His feet skidded against the brick as he attempted to right himself, and after a few moments of recollection, he began his ascent to the open window. It wasn't terribly far off the ground, maybe twenty feet at most. A few awkward gropes at vines and grooves, pushes with his legs off of footholds, and other motions got him to the torn apart gate, which he slipped his upper body through to look inside. Managing that, he waved to Aamu and Solomon, and immediately fell the rest of the way through and landed on his back on the floor.

A loud smack followed, and Solomon cringed. For a few seconds, there was worry, until Salem spoke up. A long, drawn-out "Fuuuuuuuck," came from him, and he slowly sat up.

"Feeling alright?" Solomon asked, hopping over to Salem's side. He took hold of his shoulder and put his feet on his arm as he stood, letting himself by carried up.

"Ugh. Yeah, fine. What next?" Salem grumbled out. He watched as Solomon pointed toward a door at the end of the room they were in.

"Through there. If we're lucky, Azoth will keep everyone in here busy. Shall we?" After he finished speaking, he slithered down Salem's arm and into his hand, transforming himself into the longsword-shaped form he had taken on before. His entire form turned dark grey and extremely rigid as he became stone, and once he was fully transformed, Salem balanced him across his shoulder and started forward.

----

"Yeah, the less I fall into some...****ing up devil world, the better," Mary responded, crossing her arms tightly under her chest. Ugh, she was cold. The damned portal, shadow, thing, whatever it was, hadn't even been thoughtful enough to bring the jacket she was holding through. Obviously it was sentient and hated her. She turned and stared at the floor until Eve spoke up again, asking how she was doing. Her immediate response was a quick, but entirely reflexive laugh of exasperation. Once it ended, she shook her head.

"Alright is...Not the word I'd use right now," She offered as an explanation. "It's late, I'm cold, and my brother and best friend are playing around in some ****ing up nightmare while I'm sitting here wondering what the hell is even going on." She slumped back in her chair, letting her head roll back as she looked towards one of the library's chandeliers. "I really hope this is a dream. God, tell me I have food poisoning and this is some shitty fever dream I'm having because some butthole egg decided to be filled with salmonella or something." Mary was sure salmonella didn't actually cause awful hallucinations, but she was also sure that she didn't want any of this to be real. Between the zombies, the giant shadow, the flaming horse, and the talking lawn decoration, a nightmare was really the best explanation she could come up with.
