I'm curious about what professions you all give your characters. I'm pretty sure I have given many, but some I can remember off the top of my head:

- writer;
- fashion designer;
- car mechanic;
- goldsmith.

I'm pretty sure I'll remember more, but I'm curious about what you all use, as I love to diversify in character creation, and having varied professions is one of the things that seem to help.

So, let's see what your chars do for a living!

- Librarian, bookseller, teacher, archaeologist
- Performer of varying shades (typically multi-discipline performer, but sometimes just musician or dancer)
- Pawnbroker
- Lumberjack
- Hypnotist
- Pearl diver (and other extreme maritime professions)
- Tinkers (often nominally something specific, like clockmaker or locksmith, but often they make anything mechanical/clockpunky anyway)
- Junkyard dealers (you'll see a major trend along with the pawn shop owners of 'you could find just about *anything* in there')

Those are the ones that come up the most for my common character chassis.

Wow. I tend much more to practical characters than I ever realized.

General Maintenance
Janitor
Investigative Journalism/Police investigator
Self employed business owner (Usually in quirky areas with not a lot of attention)
Box maker
Toy maker
Waiter/waitress
Electrician/Technician
Unemployeed (Sometimes homeless)
IT
Mentor (The person that trains the new employees at whatever the place is)
Icecream Truck driver
Chemist
Beekeeper

Those are some reoccurring jobs I use. I use a lot more than that, but those are typically my fall back and I just pick the one that best fits the character. Or is more ironic.

I guess the professions of my characters tend to be - well, pretty mundane! They're rarely the best in their field, and if they are, it's not in a field where "the best one" is very publicly known. Occupations include, but are not limited to:

+ Waitress
+ Office Worker and Barista Combi Person
+ Wanna-Be Pirate
+ Acquirer of Souls In Somewhat Illicit Yet Legal Ways
+ Golddigger (as in, a pretty woman, not a pickaxe person)
+ Airship Mechanic
+ Hunter
+ Medic
+ Broom Wielding Landlady
+ Inventor/Professor
+ Mediocre Private Eye
+ Medium
+ Patrolling Guard

...aaaand yeah, pretty much! While I was thinking of this, I realized a considerable amount of my characters are women. I should really write more dudes. bad ass ladies tho

I can hear what you're thinking, all your doubts and fears. And if you look in my eyes, in time you'll find the reason I'm here. And in time all things shall pass away in time, you may come back someday. You know your days are numbered. Count them one by one. Like notches in the handle of an outlaw's gun. You can outrun the devil if you try, but you'll never outrun the hands of time. In time, there'll surely come a day in time, all things shall pass away. In time, you may come back, some say. To live once more or die once more, but in time, your time will be no more.

When I "role play" or collaboratively write fictions with other authors, I tend to go with what I know...

Police Officer/Detective
Soldier
Martial Arts instructor
Catholic Priest
Professor/Teacher

Attitude | +
"The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts. It is more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than success, than what other people think or say or do. It is more important than appearance, gift, or skill. It will make or break a company...a church...a home. The remarkable thing is we have a choice every day regarding the attitude we will embrace for that day. We cannot change our past...we cannot change the fact that people will act in a certain way. We cannot change the inevitable. The only thing we can do is play on the string we have, and that is our attitude. I am convinced that life is 10 percent what happens to me and 90 percent how I react to it. And so it is with you... we are in charge of our attitudes. "
~ Charles Swindoll

Despite the fact that I know zilch about the inner works of the military, I happen to have a few military-oriented characters. None of which I'll ever bring here. XD

But these happen to be police officers, Air Force, Navy/Coast Guard, Army. I probably make slews of mistakes, despite doing my best to research, but I actually like working with them.

Newly added to my profession roster is dog trainer and behaviourist. I think this thread has instilled me with the wish to go a little off the beaten track when it comes to jobs. It can be quite fun!

I seriously read that your character had Pizza as a profession LOL
